ARMENIA CAN CLAIM BORDERS OUTLINED AS A RESULT OF GENOCIDE

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Current border between Armenia and Turkey was
outlined in the aftermath of Armenian Genocide, and the issue of
reviewing it may be raised in the context of eliminating consequences
of the first Genocide of XX century, RA Deputy FM Shavarsh Kocharyan
told Armenian online media reporters. "Nothing prevents us from
including issue in agenda," he said.

Deputy FM once again reiterated Armenia’s resolute stance on Karabakh
settlement issue, "NKR people currently have security guarantees,
and any changes weakening them rule out possibility of Armenia’s
making compromise. NKR currently enjoys certain degree of sovereignty
which cannot be reduced under any circumstances," Kocharyan stated,
adding that Armenia will agree to compromise in case above-mentioned
conditions are met.

Armenians Of Sweden Demand Reconsideration Of Armenia-Turkey Protoco

ARMENIANS OF SWEDEN DEMAND RECONSIDERATION OF ARMENIA-TURKEY PROTOCOLS

PanARMENIAN.Net
07.10.2009 14:12 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ In the light of the published protocols between
the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Turkey, regarding
the normalization of diplomatic relations, the Union of Armenian
Associations of Sweden, is highly critical of the steps taken by
the Government of Armenia, especially due to its total lack of
communication with the Armenian Diaspora in this regard, the Union
said in an open letter to Letter to the President of Armenia, Speaker
of the Armenian Parliament and Chairman of the Constitutional Court
of Armenia.

"Let it be clear that we do recognize the authority of the
Armenian Government and the rights invested with it as the
official representative of the Armenian nation, inside and outside
Armenia. However, the Government of Armenia seems to have totally
neglected the role and the situation of the Diaspora, the direct
result of and the heirs to the 1915 Genocide in Turkey.

We looked forward to the meeting in Paris on October 2, 2009, hoping it
would be a dialogue. But, the meeting was rather a monologue, repeating
the same assertions regarding the protocol and its contents which we
have been hearing for the last weeks. It was said that "Armenia is
ready to normalize its ties with Turkey without preconditions". The
Union of Armenian Associations welcomes and supports the normalization
of relations between Armenia and Turkey, but firmly refuses to accept
that the protocol does not include preconditions. It is redundant
to repeat the issues in detail, since they are clearly known by
the general public, and a short recapitulation will suffice. While
the creation of a commission to re-evaluate "historical differences
and problems" and recognizing common borders only can refer to the
Armenian Genocide and its legacy, the text stating "non intervention
in internal affairs of other states," does clearly refer to the
issue of Artsakh. While refuting to acknowledge the semantics of
these formulations, the Government of Armenia has failed in total
to present a viable explanation for why such sentences are included
at all. These concealed preconditions are not the basis of a sincere
rapprochement which this protocol is said to represent.

By entirely ignoring the views of the majority of the Armenian nation,
i.e. the Diaspora, the Government of Armenia is de facto losing its
eligibility as representative for the entire Armenian nation, an
obvious unwise step. The Union of Armenian Associations in Sweden,
strongly recommends the Government and the Parliament of Armenia to
reconsider the contents of the drafted protocol, which if ratified,
will not only seriously damage Armenian interests, crippling it morally
and politically on the international area, it will most definitely
strike a serious blow to the relations between the current Armenian
Administration and its most strategic foreign partner and resource,
the Diaspora.

Nonetheless, let it be reminded once more that the Union of
Armenian Associations in Sweden is in favor of the normalization
of relations between Turkey and Armenia, but only on the basis of a
sincere dialogue, without any preconditions, obvious or concealed,
attempting to downplay the reality of the Armenian Genocide, its
legacy, or subsiding the Armenian support of Artsakh’s right for
self-determination," the letter says.

Norfolk Tennis Ace Battles To Final In California

NORFOLK TENNIS ACE BATTLES TO FINAL IN CALIFORNIA

Norwich Evening News
06 October 2009 12:27

Richard Bloomfield avenged last week’s loss to American Michael
Mclune as he reached the final of the $10,000 Futures event on the
hard courts in Laguna Niguel, California.

Bloomfield, seeded five, performed well throughout the week but the
Norwich man was left to rue missed chances as he fell to Ryan Harrison
in a gripping three set final.

It was the American Harrison who started better and a single break
of serve would be enough to claim the first set 6-4.

The British number seven recovered well to level the match at one
set-all with some typically big serving.

Bloomfield led 4-1 in the final set and held two more break points
at 15-40 on the un-seeded American’s serve, but Harrison fought back
to hold before breaking Bloomfield to bring the set back on serve.

Another slip up from the fifth seed at five all allowed Harrison to
break again and the American served out the match from 6-5 to win
his second Futures title of the year.

"It’s frustrating because I feel like I should’ve won all three
sets." said Bloomfield shortly after the match.

"I mean I’m playing better, but to be in control and lose is
disappointing."

After a troublesome back injury caused a lengthy lay off mid-way
through the season, Bloomfield is finding some form in America.

The former world number 176 reversed the quarter final loss to Mclune
last week with a 7-6, 7-6 win over the American in the semi-final in
Laguna Niguel.

A straight sets defeat of Armenian third seed Tigran Martirosyan
in the quarter-finals showed glimpses of Bloomfield’s class and the
Norfolk county team member will be aiming to pick up further ranking
points during his time in California.

The 2008/2009 season’s WinSum League Presentation of Awards was held
at EAT&SC, Lime Tree Road on Saturday, September 26. Over 40 players
received awards in the Mini Green, Boys’ and Girls’ Singles and Doubles
at the event hosted by organiser Diane Bush who has run the WinSu
wn Tennis Association’s WinSum Junior Tennis League is a box league
run between September and July and affords junior players aged 11 to
18 and under of all standards the opportunity to play tennis matches
locally in order to variously improve their game, their confidence,
their rating or just simply for the enjoyment of playing tennis. It is
the ideal starting point for beginners and those new to competitive
matches as well as children who attend regular Saturday squads but
don’t enter tournaments and the perfect arena for those who cannot
travel all round the country competing in LTA events. Recently a Mini
Green League was introduced for players aged 10 (born 2000 for the
2009/2010 season).

The 2008/2009 season saw a total of 60 boys and 25 girls competing
over four sessions of ten weeks each all vying for promotion within
the league and the coveted award of Top of the Top Box. This year’s
Top Box winners are Sarah Palmer from Wymondham and Myles Shearman
from Norwich. Prizes are also given for the most successful player
in each age group.

Mini Green Boys: 1 Matthew Cott, 2 Rory Bartram, 3 Laurie Ollerton. U11
Girls Yasmin Tahiri, boys Matthew Bowe and Jacob Harrison. U12
Girls Rosie Armes, boys Tom Boardman. U13 Girls Hannah Hodges and
Katie McKenna, boys Harry Seaton. U14 Girls Kayleigh Applegate, boys
Ryan Andrews. U15 Girls Bronte Goodwin, boys Josh Worton. U16 Girls

the season: Joy Andrews, Imogen Osborn, Daisy Lee, Georgina Brooks,
Blyth Few, Tom Mitchell, Max Shearman, Tom Hinks, Owain McQuistin,
Stewart Biggie, Alfie Shayes and Guy Odlum.

A doubles tournament was introduced three years’ ago and this is
proving popular. It’s a fantastic way for players both social and
county to keep their doubles game honed over the winter months. The
matches are played at the players’ convenience between October and
July. This year saw two groups of boys and one la g results.

Boys Group A: Winners Oliver Hindle and Adam Simmons, runners-up
Daniel Venn and Sam Tyson.

Boys Group B: Winners Jacob Harrison and Rory Steel, runners-up Isaac

Girls Group C: Winners Joy Andrew and Lorna Magrath, runners-up tied
between Georgie Brooks and Sarah Palmer and Mollie and Rosie Armes.

The 2009/2010 season started on September 26 with five series scheduled
to coincide with the new LTA quarterly ratings review. We welcome
new participants at any time and would particularly like to see more
girls playing.

Entry forms are available at most clubs. Alternatively, please

SERZH SARGSYAN: TALKS WITH TURKEY GOING WITHOUT PRECONDITIONS

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ In the framework of his Pan-Armenian tour,
RA President Serzh Sargsyan arrived in New York to meet with
representatives of the Armenian community.

"Armenia is normalizing relations with Turkey without preconditions. I
think we achieved a maximal result at the given moment," he said
adding that normalization of relations will contribute to peace and
stability in the region.

As to concerns that Armenian did not estimate all the consequences
of opening the border with Turkey, President Sargsyan said relevant
agencies have carried out a great deal of work.

"It’s impossible to consider all risks but Armenia possesses mechanisms
essential to resolve emerging problems," he said.

RA President also emphasized that the Armenian Genocide issue can’t
be discussed in the context of normalization of Armenian-Turkish
relations.

"The only thing we can discuss is how to help Turkish people be
more impartial about their past," he said, the leader’s press office
reported.

Greece’s opposition Panhellenic Socialist Movement has won the
country’s snap general elections, foreign media reports.

Socialist leader George Papandreou promised to chart a new course for
an economic comeback.

According to figures, the Socialist party received 44 percent of the
vote, compared with New Democracy’s 34 percent, with 87 percent of
votes counted. The margin is the largest seen in a Greek vote in
decades.
The Socialist party will receive an estimated 160 seats in Greece’s
300-seat Parliament, officials said, compared with New Democracy’s 93
seats.
