Caucasus Muslims Clerical Office head Sheik-ul-Islam Allahshukur
Pashazade proposed to establish advisory council of the CIS Muslims.

"I propose to establish an advisory council of CIS Muslim, which will
include distinguished muftis and religious, scientific and cultural
figures and hold annual meetings of that body," Pashazade said in
Moscow on June 17. "I think, a meeting of religious leaders of the
CIS Muslim Ummah will allow us to discuss current religious issues
related to the life of the Ummah, and most importantly to solve
them. This would be invaluable step in coordinating our efforts."

Muslim leaders of CIS member states held an international
scientific-practical conference "The CIS Muslims for Inter-religious
and in$ter-ethnic Harmony." The conference was held at the initiative
of the Supreme Council of Muslims of the Caucasus and International
Islamic Mission. The conference is attended by 40 Muslim religious
leaders from the eight member countries of CIS, as well as the heads
of Russia’s traditional faiths.

The greetings by the Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Dmitry
Medvedev and Ilham Aliyev were read out at the conference. The
keynote address was made by co-chairman of the Chairman of the CIS
Inter-religious Council of Muslims of the Caucasus Sheikh ul-Islam
Allahshukur Pashazade.

He said this is the first meeting at such a high level and in such
a large scale for the last 18 years.

Sheikh Pashazade paid tribute to the Patriarch of Moscow and All
Russia Alexy II, who did much to preserve inter-confessional relations.

"The CIS area is home to Muslims who were not citizens of any
state. Good relations between the peoples of the CIS this is an
important historical treasure," he said.

He said CIS religious leaders strongly oppose the forces that infringe
on territorial integrity, security and stability of States. "I deeply
convinced that we can effectively repulse a solid spiritual treacherous
aggression of the CIS area only by uniting efforts of our State and
religious organizations," Pashazade said.

Religious leaders of the CIS are concerned that in different regions
of the world there are attempts to introduce Muslim as extremists and
fundamentalists. Essence of Islam is maliciously distorted. Islam is
a religion of peace that abhors terrorism and extremism in all its
manifestations, he said.

Pashazadeh mentioned the Karabakh problem. "We pray to God that the
heads of Azerbaijan and Armenia, patiently overcoming all difficulties
and contradictions, have reached a mutually acceptable solution,"
he said.

Pashazade said he is confident that meetings such as today’s will not
only strengthen the existing spiritual connection, but also deepen
and broaden the benefit of the entire Ummah.

TASHNAQ RESPONDS TO MURR, SAYS HE REQUESTED DISTRIBUTION OF VOTES BETWEEN MOUKHEIBER, RAHBANI

The Central Committee of the Armenian Tashnaq party said in a statement
issued on Wednesday that 32% of registered Armenian voters cast their
ballots in the 2007 by-elections between Kataeb party leader Amin
Gemayel and Change and Reform bloc MP Camille Khoury, and not 28% as
claimed by MP Michel al-Murr in his press conference held on Tuesday.

The statement added that the percentage of ballots in the Metn
district in the 2009 elections increased by 17% compared to 2007,
something which would logically explain the increase of the Armenian
participation in the elections.

"Three days before the elections, Murr asked the Tashnaq to distribute
their votes equally between the two Orthodox candidates of the Free
Patriotic Movement," the statement read, a reference to MP Ghassan
Moukheiber and Ghassan Rahbani, adding that "the party abided by
Murr’s request."

The statement also read that Murr got 5,000 Armenian ballots, while
the Tashnaq completely rejected Murr’s accusations of using forged
ID cards in the elections.

PRESS RELEASE

AGBU Young Professionals of Los Angeles Host Mark Arax, Author of "West
of the West: Dreamers, Believers, Builder & Killers in the Golden State"

By Aleen L. Khanjian

Pasadena, California – Award-winning author and journalist, Mark Arax,
joined the AGBU Young Professionals of Los Angeles (YP LA) on June 3,
2009 at Pasadena’s Vertical Wine Bistro to discuss his new non-fiction
book, "West of the West: Dreamers, Believers, Builders, and Killers in
the Golden State." Arax captivated the crowd of 70+ Young Professionals
as he shared valuable anecdotes of his personal history, with legends
like William Saroyan, while growing up in Fresno. Guests were also moved
by Arax’s friendly nudge at his fellow Armenians to take risks, and
leave a footprint on American media, as well as the literary world.

"Everyone clenched their books in their hands as they eagerly awaited
the opportunity to chat with Arax and watch him sign their books," says
Rita Grigorian, a member of the Professional and Cultural Events
Subcommittee of YP LA. "After briefly skimming the book, the attendees
realized that Arax’s book gives even native Californians a new
perspective on their home state," Grigorian says.

Arax’s book penetrates the minds of its readers and allows them to see
that reality can often be far more gripping and far more imaginative
than fiction. In fact, "West of the West" upends the old stereotypes of
California–earthquakes, fires, celebrities, and good weather–and to
write about the latest migrants from Mexico, the tree-sitters of
Berkeley, Bay Area conspiracy theorists, an Armenian fast-food giant’s
infamous fall, and Humboldt County’s mammoth marijuana economy.

Arax tells the remarkable stories of these engaging characters who
contributed to the evolution of our nation’s richest and most mystifying
state. The book is woven together by brutally raw stories that harmonize
only where myths and memories collide.

Established in 1906, AGBU () is the world’s largest
non-profit Armenian organization. Headquartered in New York City, AGBU
preserves and promotes the Armenian identity and heritage through
educational, cultural and humanitarian programs, annually serving some
400,000 Armenians on six continents.

Post-Soviet security bloc to hold summit, but without Belarus

Post-Soviet security bloc to hold summit, but without Belarus

13:5214/06/2009

MOSCOW, June 14 (RIA Novosti) – A summit of the post-Soviet CSTO
security bloc will go ahead in Moscow on Sunday as planned, despite
Belarus’s withdrawal in protest against Russia’s ban on its dairy
products, the Kremlin said.

The summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization comprising
Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Uzbekistan and
Tajikistan was preceded by a meeting of the CSTO Council of Foreign
Ministers.

"Participation or non-participation in the CSTO summit is a sovereign
affair of each state that joined the organization voluntarily. Moscow
proceeds from the fact that the CSTO is an institution needed not only
by Russia but equally by other CSTO member states," presidential aide
Sergei Prikhodko said.

Earlier in June, Russia banned imports of over 1,000 types of dairy
products from Belarus, dealing a major blow to its budget revenue,
saying producers in the ex-Soviet republic had failed to comply with
new Russian standards.

The country’s Foreign Ministry reacted with a statement saying: "At
this moment, we face open economic discrimination by one of the members
of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) against Belarus
in an important category of products. Objectively, such actions
undermine economic security, which is a fundamental basis for
stability, and therefore for comprehensive and all-embracing security."

"In this situation, Belarus was forced to make a decision on cancelling
its participation in the CSTO meeting in Moscow on June 14."

The Pedro Atletico striker hopes that the transfer to Pyunik FC will
be finalised soon……

Allan Wanga is poised to be the first Kenyan to play in a European Cup
if his intended move to Armenian champions, Pyunik FC goes through. The
club has already tendered an initial offer which the Angolan champions
have rejected.

Wanga told a Kenyan newspaper, Daily Nation, that negotiations between
the two clubs are still going on and that an agreeable transfer
package is the one factor delaying the deal.

"Pyunik have been tracking me for a while now but my club has asked
more money than what the club has offered but negotiations are still
going on," Wanga said.

"Pedro still wants me and will only release me if the price is
right. It is a dream for me to play in Europe and I just pray my
agent works out an agreeable deal," Wanga added.

According to Wanga, Pedro has slapped a transfer price tag of $600,000
while Pyunik are offering $400,000. The 2007 Kenya Premier League top
scorer moved from Tusker FC to Pedro in 2008 in a $60,000 transfer
deal.

The striker has since been a revelation for the Angolan championship
who are likely to be unwilling to release him unless their asking
price is honoured.

Wanga has already scored four goals in eight matches this season
for the champions but his move to Pyunik which has won 11 Armenian
Premier League titles will raise his profile and expose him to other
European top clubs.

Armenia Shouldn’t Become A Country With Cheap Tourism

ARMENIA SHOULDN’T BECOME A COUNTRY WITH CHEAP TOURISM

/PanARMENIAN.Net/
12.06.2009 15:31 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Tourism in Armenia cannot be compared to that in
Turkey or Georgia, said Mekhak Apresyan, head of tourism division at
the RA Ministry of Economy.

"These two countries are competitors while Armenia is quite different,
because it doesn’t have a sea," he told a news conference today.

When asked about popularity of Turkish resorts, Apresyan said,
"If one decides to spend vacation at the sea, expensiveness of the
package will not frighten."

At the same time, he stressed that domestic tourism in the republic is
not developed over high accommodation prices and low service quality.

"Travel agents should reconsider their policy and lower tariffs,"
he said, adding that Armenia should by no means become a country of
"cheap tourism."

"I would not like to see tourists arriving in Armenia because it’s
cheap and not because it’s attractive," Apresyan said.

On June 10, in accordance with the earlier achieved agreement with
the NKR authorities the OSCE mission conducted a regular monitoring of
the line of contact of Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijani Armed Forces
in the direction of Fizouli, near Karakhanbeyli settlement.

>From the positions of the NKR Defense Army the monitoring was
conducted by Field Assistants of the Personal Representative of the
OSCE Chairman-in-Office Irji Aberle (Czech Republic) and Vladimir
Chuntulov (Bulgaria).

The monitoring passed in accordance with the planned schedule.

However, the Azerbaijani side did not lead the mission to its
front-lines, to the already concerted point, as a result of which the
monitoring was to be conducted from a farther distance. No violation
of cease-fire regime was registered.

"The monitoring mission from the Karabakhi side was accompanied by
representatives of the NKR Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs"
