/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Started at around 08.00 p.m., the rally organized
by the Armenian National Congress (ANC) gathered over 3000 people
near the repository of ancient manuscripts Matenadaran in Yerevan.

The rally began with a short brawl between some participants, but
other protesters quickly prevent them from fighting. Police was not
at the site at the moment of conflict. Posters with a picture of RA
MP Sasun Mikaelyan, currently imprisoned, were in the hands of some
rally participants.

The first speech of Ashot Zakaryan, ANC activist and the head of the
Shirak territorial body of "Yerkrapah" began with criticism towards
authorities on the matter of recently declared amnesty. According to
Ashot Zakaryan, "it is not forced compromise of authorities conditioned
by the pressure of Europe". The latter does not care for democracy
in countries like Armenia. According to him, the amnesty is a victory
of opposition forces in Armenia.

In later statements the June amnesty was called ‘cheap propaganda
trick’, since hundreds of people had been arrested and put in jail
after March 1 events.

The Armenian National Congress leaders, Levon Ter-Petrossian, Stepan
Demirchyan, Aram Sarkisyan, David Shahnazaryan, Ararat Zurabyan
and Levon Zurabyan, as well as recently released from prison due to
amnesty former Deputy Prosecutor General of Armenia Gagik Jhangiryan
take part in today’s rally.

ISTANBUL – Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoðlu and Energy Minister Taner
Yýldýz will hold talks today with their Russian counterparts in Moscow.

As the head of the joint economic commission, Yýldýz will hold talks
on issues concerning trade, industry and construction. The two sides
will also talk about the Blue Stream-2 project – the construction of
a pipeline parallel to the existing one that passes under the Black
Sea to carry Russian gas to Turkey.

There will also be preliminary talks on the renewal of the contract to
buy Russian gas, which is set to expire soon. The visit comes in the
aftermath of the deal signed between Russia and Azerbaijan, whereby
the Russian gas monopoly Gazprom will buy 500 million cubic meters
per year starting in 2010. The deal is perceived as a blow to the
Nabucco project, the pipeline designed to carry Caspian natural gas
to Europe via Turkey. The deal signed between Russia and Azerbaijan
and the Nabucco project are two separate projects, Yýldýz said.

Meanwhile Foreign Minister Davutoðlu is also headed to Moscow where
he will meet his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov today. The two
are expected to talk about the Nagorno Karabakh issue.

by the Government of Armenia, namely the Ministry of Territorial
Administration of the Republic of Armenia/State Migration Agency, and
was remodelled into 46 social apartments and 1 social room by UNHCR’s

ensured that the infrastructure of the building, gas and electricity,
is in place, and Ararat marz authorities and Darbnik community greatly
contributed to the installation of the external infrastructure of the
building. With the generous support of UNHCR’s partner in the private
sector, VivaCell-MTS, UNHCR was able to complete the remodeling works
of one block of the social house. Moreover, to secure basic living
conditions for Iraqi refugees, UNHCR Armenia, jointly with US Embassy

that makes this beautiful tuf building into a happy abode for Iraqi
families", Bushra Halepota added.

"Our duty is to ensure that those people who have been uprooted from
their homes, and came to their Motherland, do not leave it in search
of safe haven somewhere else.", said VivaCell-MTS General Manager.

"VivaCell-MTS as a corporate citizen, wants to contribute to this great
initiative of housing, initiated by UNHCR. We believe that social
adaptation and integration of people forced to flee their country
starts from having their secure corner. We, the Armenians of Armenia,
have to do our best to create conditions for the se people to stay
and see their children’s future here, in the historical motherland",
added Ralph Yirikian.

After the ribbon cutting ceremony, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister of
RA Armen Gevorgyan, VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian,

Gazprom to buy 0.5 bcm of Azerbaijani gas annually from 2010

Gazprom to buy 0.5 bcm of Azerbaijani gas annually from 2010

BAKU, June 29 (RIA Novosti) – Gazprom will buy 500 million cubic
meters of natural gas from Azerbaijan annually from January 1, 2010,
CEO Alexei Miller said on Monday.
The Russian energy giant, which has not so far bought Azerbaijani gas,
signed an agreement with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic
(SOCAR) earlier in the day.
"Gazprom will buy Azerbaijani gas from January 1, 2010. Initially we
will buy 500 million cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas," Miller said,
without disclosing either the price or the pricing formula.
"The agreement signed today fixes a basic price that is commercially
attractive to our Azerbaijani partners," the Russian businessman said.
The agreed volume of deliveries from SOCAR is less than one tenth of
one percent of the 549.7 billion cubic meters of gas Gazprom itself
produced last year.
Azerbaijan plans eventually to increase gas supplies to Russia,
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.
"We plan in the future to increase supplies as the volume of
Azerbaijani natural gas production goes up," Aliyev said on Monday
after talks with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Baku.
According to the Gazprom CEO, Azerbaijani gas to be pumped via a
pipeline running between the two countries will be used in south
Russian territories. He also pledged that similar volumes of gas would
be reserved for European consumers.
Miller added that Gazprom was listed as a potential buyer of gas from
the Shakh Deniz field with some privileges reserved for the company.
"We are confident that Gazprom has very good negotiating positions
regarding long-term cooperation in the purchase of Azerbaijani gas,"
he said.
Speaking in early June at an oil conference in Azerbaijan’s capital,
Baku, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs
Matthew Bryza said that in 2012-2015 Azerbaijan would supply Europe
with 12 billion cu m of gas from its Shakh Deniz field alone, raising
supplies to 15 billion by 2015, and increasing them further by 201
