Following its meeting at Nejmeh Square, the Armenian Consensus
bloc – which includes MPs Jean Ogassapian, Serge Torsarkissian,
Sebouh Kalbakian and Chant Gengenian – called for speeding up
the cabinet formation process and maintaining "the spirit" of the
Cedar Revolution. The bloc also confirmed its support for Prime
Minister-designate Saad Hariri.

Restoration works are implemented at present at the community school
of Khashtarak, the region of Tavush, under the joint sponsorship of
the local bodies of France, Germany, Switzerland of the Hayastan All
Armenian Fund and the German Union of Armenian Businessmen.

According to the information submitted by the Public Relations
Department of the fund, the local body of Australia undertook financing
of the school furnishing program to make the education conditions
of full value. Besides, a new computer room will also be created at
the school.

To recap, no repair works has been implemented at the school since
1973.

The Syrian-Armenian Higher Joint Committee will hold its next session
early next month in the Armenian capital, Yerevan, to discuss ways to
increase the volume of trade and investment between the two countries
and follow up the implementation of agreements signed during the visit
by President Bashar al-Assad recently to Armenia. Al-Watan newspaper
reported on Tuesday that the President of Armenia Serge Sarkissian,
will visit Syria, mid-October. Preparatory meeting for the next
session of the Joint Committee was held last Thursday in the Ministry
of Economy . The meeting concluded the importance of participating in
the exhibitions held in each of the two countries and benefit from the
advantages granted during the period of supply and meeting with trade
and economic actors to discuss with them access to their products.

YEREVAN, AUGUST 3, ARMENPRESS: Armenian grand master Levon Aronyan
became champion of the world rapid chess tournament which ended in
the German city of Mainz. In the final round he beat Russian grand
master Yan Nepomnayshi.

Another Armenian grand master Vladimir Hakobyan, gaining 9,5 points
from possible 11 took the second place in the "Ordix" international
tournament of the rapid chess in Mainz. Grand master Gabriel Sargsyan
was the 9th.

This tournament is held each year in Mainz within the frameworks of
International Chess Tournament.

launch for prepaid subscribers.

By activating the new "Midnight" service subscribers can talk during
the night hours for significantly lower tariffs. From 12a.m. till
7a.m. while making on-net calls the tariff of each subsequent minute
will be half the tariff of the previous minute.

"Midnight" service is activated by dialing *232*1#. The activation
fee is AMD 100. All prices include VAT.

The "Midnight" service tariffs are not applied to the calls to
Premium numbers.

The service is not available for subscribers of "I Love…", "Himnakan
Night" and "Miasin Night" tariff plans.

The service is not available in roaming, VivaCell-MTS Press Service
reported.

YEREVAN, AUGUST 3, NOYAN TAPAN. By the preliminary results of the
August 2 elections of the community head in the city of Nor Hachn
(Kotayk marz), Gagik Matevosian – the commercial head of Nakhsh LLC,
member of Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) has been elected mayor.

NT correspondent was informed by Spokeswoman for the RA Central
Electoral Commission Tatev Ohanian that 3,986 out of the 8,317
community voters took part in the voting. 3,678 people voted for the
only candidate for the post of the mayor, 222 voted against. 85 voting
papers were recognized invalid.

On July 31 President Serzh Sargsyan participated in the unofficial
summit of the Heads of CSTO member states. The meeting brought together
the Presidents of Armenia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan,
Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

During the summit at the Rukh Ordo ethno-graphic center the CSTO
leaders exchanged views on urgent issues of international security and
discussed questions connected with information policy.

During a press conference following the informal summit, Kyrgyz
President Kurmanbek Bakiev said an open and constructive conversation
had been launched on the security over CSTO area, particularly issues
of fighting religious radicalism and terrorism.

The CSTO leaders stressed the necessity to conduct a coordinated
information policy. They also agreed to establish a youth center on the
shore of Lake Issyk-Kul.

At the end of the non-official summit President Bakiev of Kyrgyzstan
gave an official dinner in honor of the CSTO leaders.

President Serzh Sargsyan will leave Kyrgyzstan for the Orenburg region
of Russia to attend the solemn ceremony of opening of the `National
Village’ Armenian cultural complex. President Sargsyan will lay a
wreath at the memorial to great Armenian poet Vahan Teryan and will
meet representatives of the Armenian community.

Revenue form Armenian communications sector up 5% in H1

Sales revenue from communications services in Armenia increased by
4.7% year-on-year in January-June to 77.1 billion dram ($221.5
million), the National Statistics Service said.

Sales revenue from postal and telegraph services shrank by 41.1% to
955.9 million dram (369.98 dram/$1 on July 31, 2009).

Revenue from telecommunications services increased by 5.7% to 76.2
billion dram. Revenue from cellular services went up by 2.2% to 50.1
billion dram, data transfer and Internet services – 240% to 4.7
million dram and radio-television services – 9% to 1.8 billion dram.

Memorial Building Rededicated at Ararat Armenian Cemetery

A momentous day Saturday for a valley teen and a well-known cemetery.

The Ararat Armenian Cemetery in Southwest Fresno rededicated it’s
memorial building. It’s the result of hard work by Fresno teenager,
Caz Ashjian. He came up with the idea to remodel and refresh the
run-down building at the cemetery as part of a project to earn his
Eagle Scout Award.

Ashjian collected donations, and got businesses on board to do the
work. The project took more than 30 days and $30,000 to complete.
