YEREVAN, 6 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. Despite the negative impact of external factors, the trade turnover between the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union is growing dynamically, ARMENPRESS reports Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Armenia Bolat Imanbayev said at a round table on “Opportunities for EEU Development: Prospects after the Declaration of an Economic War against Russia by  Collective West.”

According to the Ambassador of Kazakhstan, the mutually beneficial decisions are in line with the spirit of the EEU, which in the short period of its existence has shown a significant increase in mutual trade between the member states.

The Ambassador of the country, which chaired the EEU bodies last year, noted with satisfaction the dynamics of trade turnover growth in the union in 2021.

“Despite external factors and the quarantine restrictions, the volume of Kazakhstan’s trade with the EEU member states increased by 28% amounting to $ 26.1 billion. At the same time, the Kazakhstan-Armenia bilateral trade turnover has increased by more than 30% in the mentioned period, “the Kazakh Ambassador said.

The Ambassadors of Kazakhstan and Russia emphasized the need for the EEU countries to overcome the new and difficult challenges through joint efforts.

Prior to Bolat Imanbayev’s speech, Russia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin said in his speech that Russia understands very well that the sanctions imposed on it will have a serious impact on its Eurasian allies, and the policy of isolating Russia will be carried out also against the other EEU member states. But Moscow expects that the common interests of Eurasian partners, their economic interdependence, will dictate the understanding that it is necessary to stand together and develop together.

Ontario Legislative Assembly proclaims May ‘’Armenian Heritage Month”

Public Radio of Armenia
March 30 2022

On March 29, the Ontario Legislative Assembly proclaimed the month of May ‘’Armenian Heritage Month,” Horizon Weekly reports.

Bill 105 recognizing the month of May in each year as Armenian Heritage Month was introduced by Ontario Legislative Assembly member Aris Babikian.

Ontario is home to more than 100,000 people of Armenian heritage. Armenians began migrating to Canada in the 1880s. The first Armenian to do so was Garabed Nergarian, who settled in Port Hope, Ontario in 1887. Approximately 37 Armenians came to Ontario in 1892 and 100 more settled in the province in 1895. After the Hamidian massacres of the mid-1890s, Armenian families began settling in greater numbers in Ontario. Decades later, approximately 2,000 survivors of the 1915 Armenian Genocide — mostly women and children — came to Canada as refugees.

In the early 1920s, over 100 orphaned Armenian children, later called the “Georgetown Boys”, were brought to Georgetown, Ontario by the Armenian Relief Association of Canada, an organization that provided assistance to Armenian refugees in adjusting to Canadian society. In what became known as “Canada’s Noble Experiment”, it was considered one of the first Canadian humanitarian acts on an international scale. In 2010, the Georgetown Farmhouse (now the Cedarvale Community Centre) was designated an historic and protected municipal site.

May is a significant month for the Armenian community. May 28, 1918 is widely celebrated by Armenian people around the world as the day Armenians regained sovereignty over their historical territory after 600 years of colonization, occupation, subjection and genocide. The 1918 Armenian Declaration of Independence is a symbol of Armenians’ aspiration for freedom, democracy and independence. May 28th is one of the most important Armenian holidays, and many parades and festivities take place during the month of May.

By proclaiming the month of May as Armenian Heritage Month, the Province of Ontario recognizes the significant impact that Armenian Canadians have had on Ontario’s social, cultural, educational, economic, and political institutions, as well as their contributions to art, science and literature in the province. Armenian Heritage Month is an opportunity to educate Ontarians about the struggles and achievements of Armenian Canadians in a society that respects freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law. These core values have contributed to the strength and diversity of Ontario.

YEREVAN, MARCH 31, ARMENPRESS. Armenia again denies the reports which claimed that mercenaries are being transported to Ukraine through Armenian territory.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan talked about the problem of fake news during the March 31 Cabinet meeting.

“The fake news claiming that mercenary terrorists are being transferred to Ukraine through Armenian territory is misrepresented as truth. Any more or else informed person knows that two years ago Armenia itself suffered from mercenary terrorists and Armenia can never contribute to their involvement anywhere,” Pashinyan said.

Pashinyan added that sometimes such fake news have significant roles in the context of Azerbaijan being engaged in a policy of developing a false narrative both before, during and after the 2020 war in an attempt to substantiate military attack on Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh.

Abrahamyan: Azerbaijan has occupied some 1,200 hectares of land in Artsakh region

Panorama
Armenia – March 31 2022

Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) has found itself in a complicated political and diplomatic situation, Armenian MP Tigran Abrahamyan of the opposition With Honor faction told a news conference on Thursday, referring to the latest Azerbaijani aggression.

The lawmaker states that the Azerbaijani troops have occupied quite a large territory of the Askeran region of the Artsakh Republic after breaching the ceasefire on March 23.

“According to rough estimates, it’s about 1,100-1,200 hectares of land, but the issue should not be considered only in a territorial context, because through the invasion Azerbaijan seeks to enhance its positional advantage as well as to exercise control over the livelihood of the parts of Artsakh which are currently under our control,” Abrahamyan said.

He claims that the Armenian government has not taken any appropriate measures in the current situation.

“Political statements or assessments of the situation have no deterrent effect. We have to state that Armenia has not taken appropriate actions within its capacities and has not ensured the security of Artsakh Armenians,” Abrahamyan stressed.

YEREVAN, APRIL 1, ARMENPRESS. On March 31, during the 49th session of the UN Human Rights Council, the resolution on “Prevention of Genocide” initiated by Armenia was adopted by consensus, the Armenian Foreign Ministry said.

The resolution, traditionally introduced by Armenia, assessing current threats and challenges, outlines the steps to be taken jointly by the UN member states towards prevention of the calamity of genocide, its recognition, restoration of justice, compensation, punishment and ensuring the accountability of the genocide perpetrators.

The resolution is widely supported, as evidenced by its co-sponsorship of countries representing all five regional groups.

This year, the resolution raises such issues as undertaking steps for conflict risk assessments, their prevention, the abuse of new technologies, including the threats of disseminating disinformation through social media, and reiterates the need for ensuring universal ratification of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (CPPCG),

The resolution proposes to organize a conference within the UN framework, which will be dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Convention. It is planned to discuss the inadmissibility of using social media as a tool of hatred.

Artsakh State Minister: Britain strengthens positions of Azerbaijani-Turkish tandem in region

NEWS.am
Armenia –

Britain strengthens the positions of the Azerbaijani-Turkish tandem in the region, Artsakh State Minister Artak Beglaryan wrote on his Facebook.

“What does Britain have to do with Azerbaijan’s recent aggression against the security guarantees of Artsakh and Russia?

In these days when Azerbaijan is again occupying settlements and strategic heights of Artsakh, the British Minister of the Armed Forces is in Baku, and the Karabakh conflict is discussed with the Azerbaijani ambassador to London.

We saw open British support for Azerbaijan in 2020 during the Azerbaijani-Turkish aggression. Even now, during the occupation of Parukh and Karaglukh, Britain is not hiding its strategic support, and we can only guess at the size and nature of the actual support.

This is done both in order to strengthen the position of the Azerbaijani-Turkish tandem in the region, and in order to now strike a blow to Russia’s vital interests, as a result of which the lives and security of the indigenous people of Artsakh are trampled.

Human rights and democracy, praised by the West, are absolutely impossible in such dirty geopolitical games,” he wrote.
