SORCIO PLANS TO INCREASE ITS PRODUCTION VOLUMES TO 5-10 MILLION DOLLARS BY 2010

YEREVAN, JUNE 11, NOYAN TAPAN. Sorcio company plans to increase its
production volumes by late 2009 with the assistance of 125 million
drams (about 403.8 thousand USD) it has received from Armenian
government. NT correspondent was informed by the company’s CEO
Hovhannes Avoyan that the U.S. is the main consumer of the production
made by this IT company, and Sorcio will also increase its export
volumes this year.

H. Avoyan expressed a hope that the government’s assistance will
help the company to mitigate the impact of the global financial and
economic crisis.

Sorcio currently employs 50 people, but it envisages increasing the
number of jobs to 200 within 3-4 years and the number of customers
to 80 thousand instead of the current 1,000. The company expects its
production volumes to reach 5-10 million USD in 2010. In 2008 its
production amounted to 700 thousand USD.

Sorcio’s products enable various institutions to control work of
websites, networks and servers. According to H. Avoyan, demand for
their products is gradually increasing abroad, while in Armenia there
is no demand for them.

"Demand for such products is just emerging in Armenia as few companies
seriously use information technologies at their enterprises,"
he underlined.

He said that the government has acquired part of the company’s
shares. "The government evaluated Sorcio quite conservatively: our
company has rather a high cost," the CEO said.

In his words, despite this fact, the governmental assistance came
just in time because Armenia’s IT sector is suffering a decline due
to the crisis.

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The Canada Science and Technology Museum and the
Portrait Gallery of Canada, a program of Library and Archives Canada,
are excited to launch Festival Karsh, a summer-long celebration
marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of legendary portrait
photographer Yousuf Karsh. Born in Turkish Armenia in 1908, Karsh
achieved his own renown during the 1940s and 1950s by photographing
celebrities and world leaders, earthtimes.org reports.

"Yousuf Karsh was a Canadian of immense achievement. His camera
captured our nation’s story, and his life is a moving tale of
determination and perseverance. This exhibition pays him homage and
allows every Canadian the opportunity to better know and understand
this important figure and his work", said Mr. Royal Galipeau, Member
of Parliament (Ottawa-Orleans).

"Canadians can feel enormous pride in Yousuf Karsh’s achievements,"
said Dr. Lilly Koltun, Director General responsible for the portrait
collection at Library and Archives Canada. "His art crystallized both
our ambitions and our humanity in portraits of great emotional power."

The highlight of the Festival is Karsh: Image Maker, a major exhibition
on view all summer at the Canada Science and Technology Museum. In this
interactive exhibition, visitors will learn about Karsh as displaced
refugee and striving apprentice. They will discover the tools Karsh
used to craft his images and signature style, including an impressive
floor-to-ceiling enlarger and his iconic Calumet camera. Also on view
are portraits of some of the 20th century’s leading figures, from Sir
Winston Churchill to Audrey Hepburn, drawn from the 350,000 items in
the Karsh collection held at Library and Archives Canada. Visitors
will be encouraged to make their own portraits through an immersive
studio experience and they will also see how their reaction helps to
make a Karsh portrait meaningful.

"The Canada Science and Technology Museum is the keeper of Karsh’s
professional equipment including cameras, lights and darkroom
tools," said Mr. Claude Faubert, Director General, Canada Science and
Technology Museum. "We are delighted to collaborate with Library and
Archives Canada and to share with all Canadians the stories of Yousuf
Karsh and his work during this, his centennial year."

The Karsh Trail, winding through downtown Ottawa, is a unique feature
of the Festival. A self-directed walking tour of 11 sites and displays
related to Karsh’s 65 years in the city, the Trail leads you to many
unexpected places, such as the Ottawa Little Theatre, Notre Dame
Cathedral Basilica, as well as to the site of Karsh’s first studio
on Sparks Street, which he opened in 1933 during the Great Depression.

Festival Karsh and the Karsh: Image Maker exhibition at the Canada
Science and Technology Museum run from June 12 to September 13, 2009.

Logic Of Man And Lioness

LOGIC OF MAN AND LIONESS

The failed lioness at the Yerevan Mayor election, the vice-president
of the Orinats Yerkir party (OYP) Heghine Bisharyan on June 11,
during a press conference, stated that the basis of all kinds of
electoral breaches was laid during the first years of the independent
Armenia. In other words, Heghine Bisharyan means Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s
government, stating also that the current electoral frauds are the
logic continuation of the government established in those years.

For people, it is of course difficult to understand the logic of
lions, but perhaps we may try. Heghine Bisharyan comes out to accept
that electoral frauds are taking place today, just she thinks that
the godfather of the breaches is not the present but the previous
of the previous government complaining that Levon Ter-Petrosyan is
representing with the lambskin.

To say that what she stated is completely wrong would be equal
committing a sin towards the OYP. Of course, the basis of electoral
frauds was laid during Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s presidency, when the
elections of both of 1995 and 1996 years were rigged. It comes out
that Heghine Bisharyan and her OYP are ready to cooperate with the
continuator of electoral frauds but not with their founders. Here
the logic of people and lions differs. The human logic hints that
the founders and the continuators of breaches have to be equally
refuted. But, according to lions, the founders are to be refuted and
the continuators are to be cooperated with, formed a coalition and
shared posts.

Heghine Bisharyan and a lot of other figures cannot understand one
simple thing. If tomorrow, the whole public hates Levon Ter-Petrosyan,
it is all the same, Artur Baghdasaryan and the others will not be
loved more. The maximum that can be is the increase of the number of
people whom the public hates.

Armenian national film center delegation returned back from film market
held in the frameworks of Cannes film festival on 12-22 May. Gevorg
Gevorgyan, the director of national film center told the reporters that
Armenia’s participation to the market could be assessed positively.

According to him the current year is successful for Armenia. It was
the first year Armenia attended the film market and a small pavilion
was rented as they did not have serious expectations because Armenian
film market is not well introduced abroad. But it was a success,
as, according to Gevorgyan, the Armenian pavilion was well presented
and crowded.

About 30 films have been presented in the market. Though no film is
sold, many proposals have been made.

According to Gevorgyan it’s not as easier to sell a film, as the
producer or the company should get acquainted with the film and then
decide whether to buy it or not. Gevorgyan said that they have 30
agreements at the end of the market.

Gagik Beglaryan swore in as Mayor of Yerevan at the residence of the
Yerevan City Council today. The inauguration ceremony was attended
by the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, other senior
officials.

To the accompaniment of the national anthem, members of the City
Council, actor Vladimir Msryan and composer Martin Vardazaryan brough
in the Mayor’s necklace. Gagik Beglaryan said that governing Yerevan
he would serve the nation.

After uttering the oath, Gagik Beglaryan noted in his speech that this
was a historic day for the residents of Yerevan. "For the first time
in history Yerevan will be governed by elected authorities. It’s a
great honor and a great responsibility to assume the administration
of the capital city, which has centuries-long history. We are going
to work with greater vigor to study the best international practice
of local self-governance and apply it," the Mayor said.

"The Mayor cannot be mine or yours in independent Armenia. Yerevan
cannot be ours or yours. Yerevan is home to all of us. As Mayor,
I promise that the meetings of the citizens with me and the City
Council will be periodic, because the feedback will help us assess
the effectiveness of the work we have done," Gagik Beglaryan noted.

Congratulating the Mayor, President Sarg syan voiced hope that he
would justify the hopes of all citizens of Yerevan.

"I have great expectations from the newly elected Mayor. It’s clear
that after the constitutional changes he will have less chances to
take single-handed decisions than the previous Mayors had. But this
does not mean that the share of the Mayor’s responsibility or his
role will decrease.

In today’s reality the Mayor should be a leader responsible for
successes and failures, who confesses that governing means serving,"
the President stated.

The inauguration ceremony was blessed by Navasard Archbishop Kchoyan

ArmInfo-TURAN. The last meeting between Azerbaijani and Armenian
Presidents in Saint Petersburg as well as their previous talks cannot
be called positive, Novruz Mammadov, chief of the International Affairs
Department of the presidential administration, told Turan. He said the
statements of the OSCE Minsk Group co- chairmen and western diplomats
about results of the meeting do not coincide with reality. "No serious
steps forward" have been made, not taking into account some "small
differences" at five meetings between Ilham Aliyev and Serzh Sarkisian.

Mammadov said he has no information available about possibility
of signing of the agreement between Azerbaijani and Armenian
Presidents in July in presence of Presidents of U.S., France and
Russia. In some countries Armenia is shown as the constructive state,
which holds constructive talks and makes ready for signing of the
documents. Therefore, the OSCE MG co-chairmen present Armenia as "a
constructive country and impose this viewpoint to the world publicity,"
Mammadov said. Asked about Turkey’s role in the Karabakh conflict
settlement, Mammadov said Turkey and Azerbaijan are friendly and
brotherly countries, which will not sacrifice each other interests
to please interests of the others. "We see that Turkey is really
interested in the conflict settlement and takes real steps in this
direction," Mammadov said.

Mammadov wished "the U.S. co-chairman objectively informed his leaders
about real situation in the negotiations following instructions of
his president and Secretary of State."

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ "Our society has formed an opinion that time is
ripe for amnesty and this step would put an end to all March1, 2008
events. I’m assured that this opinion is wrong, as, in reality, amnesty
should be the start of innocent people’s liberation, establishment
of independent justice and democratic atmosphere in the country,"
Heritage Parliamentary Faction Secretary Larisa Alaverdyan told a
news conference.

She also noted that independent justice and democratic atmosphere
will promote the trust for RA authorities.

ACCORDING TO SERZH SARGSYAN, ENTRANCE OF FRANCE TELECOM ORANGE INTO ARMENIAN MARKET TO GIVE NEW QUALITY TO ARMENIAN-FRENCH ECONOMIC COOPERATION

YEREVAN, JUNE 9, NOYAN TAPAN. Receiving Vice President of France
Telecom Orange company Olaf Swantee and Director General of Orange
Armenia Bruno Dutois on June 9, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan
welcomed the entrance of this company into the Armenian market and
expressed confidence that it will give a new quality to Armenian-French
economic cooperation. He underlined that the activities of the French
company will help to liberalize even more the telecommunication market
and may form a good basis for development of other sectors of the
country’s economy.

As NT was informed by the RA presidential press service, O. Swantee
restated their obligation to provide high quality services and ensure a
fast Internet and phone connection in line with modern requirements. He
spoke about Orange Armenia’s programs and the work on infrastructures
of the company, noting that everything possible is being done so that
by late 2009 the company will be fully prepared to deliver services
to the population of Armenia. In his words, in 2009 the company plans
to invest 80 million dollars with the aim of operating not only in
Yerevan, but also in Armenian marzes (provinces).

YEREVAN

YEREVAN, JUNE 8, NOYAN TAPAN. The RA Central Electoral Commission
(CEC) at the June 8 special sitting registered Bargavach Hayastan party
member Vachagan Khurshudian as a NA deputy from the BH electoral roll,
by the proportional system.

The basis of the decision is the NA May 27 protocol on pre-term
stopping of Avet Adonts’ deputy powers, who was appointed Ambassador
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of RA to Belgium, as well as head
of Armenia’s representation in the European Union pluralistically
and the application on self-rejection introduced by Gagik Atajanian,
a candidate preceding V. Khurshudian on the list.

Government Pretends To Be Negotiating With The Public

GOVERNMENT PRETENDS TO BE NEGOTIATING WITH THE PUBLIC

LRAGIR.AM

According to the member of the Armenian National Congress, Hovhannes
Igityan, the amnesty is the trouble of the government and it should
decide by itself how to come out of that trouble, as the amnesty means
to forgive those responsible. But, it is found out that those people
are political prisoners and are arrested for their political stances,
who are not responsible for anything. "The court hearing process shows
that all the accusations, which are based on the testimonies of the
witnesses, are being destroyed. The witnesses state that the police
officials used repression against them". He added that in normal
countries the judge has to find out who is the police official,
who represses the witnesses.

Hovhannes Igityan thinks that the hurry of the government to declare
an amnesty is determined by the PACE session on June 23, where the
question on the democratic institutions in Armenia will be discussed
and the government wants to show as if it is negotiating with the
people, in order to prevent possible sanction.
