Kayseri’s Kadir Has stadium, the venue of Turkey’s 2010 World Cup
qualifier against Armenia this October, will reportedly be covered
with almost 70,000 carnations for the match, with two carnations
put on each seat in the stadium, which has a capacity of 33,000,
Today’s Zaman reported.

Flower Production and Marketing Corporation General Director Mustafa
Erengul said they will decorate the stadium with flowers, which are the
language of love. Stating that the event will help improve relations
between Turkey and Armenia, Interflora Florists Association Chairman
Recep Gedik said his group will help decorate the stadium with flowers,
adding that they plan to visit Armenia with state ministers.

The return game of the September 2008 Turkey-Armenia match will take
place on Oct. 14. Both countries have been awarded a Fair Play award
by FIFA, the world soccer authority, for their contributions to world
peace through the match in Yerevan. Aside from being a sporting event,
the soccer game drew attention for its political ramifications as well.

"Football Diplomacy" To Produce Tangible Results In October-November

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ As to whether the "football diplomacy" will produce
tangible results will become evident in October-November 2009,
Eurointegration NGO’s Chair Karen Bekaryan told a news conference
in Yerevan. "I don’t share the opinion that ‘football diplomacy’
produced no result. The passiveness observed at present will turn into
an active process at the end of October or beginning of November,"
the expert noted.

With regard to Karabakh settlement process, he stressed the importance
of anticipating new proposals, "Package solution is out of the
question. MG co-chairs will very probably propose new approaches
towards clauses not agreed upon," the expert said.

According to Bekaryan, Armenian-Tutkish normalization and Karabakh
settlement are really parallel processes, the question is whether
they will intersect. "The processes can be said to be parallel at
present. And in some sense, it is advantageous both for Armenia and
the entire region," he added.

A three-day Armenian- Greek business forum kicked off in Yerevan
today with a view of invading new markets and finding new spheres
of cooperation.

As a result of the first-day discussions, President of the
Agrarian-Peasant Union of Armenia Hrachya Berberyan received a
suggestion from Greek counterparts, who expressed willingness to
provide agricultural machinery.

"This is a traditional forum held for the third time, and we always
have concrete agreements and initiatives as a result," President of
the Armenian Union of Entrepreneurs Arsen Ghazaryan said.

The commodity turnover between Armenia and Greece is low: $15-20
million. No increase is expected this year because of the economic
crisis, but this is the best time for laying the foundation for future
cooperation. "We expect the commodity turnover with Greece to reach
at least $ 100-150 million," Arsen Ghazaryan said.

projects will help Armenia avoid social shocks and turning the
country’s economy into an organism on life-support needing permanent
injections in form of credits to continue its existence. The
Association believes Government’s injections will be effective,
goal-oriented and will benefit Armenian economy, AMA statement said.

Genocide Denial: Armenians Say That’s Enough!!

GENOCIDE DENIAL: ARMENIANS SAY THAT’S ENOUGH!!
By Jean Eckian

Nouvelle d’Armenie
8 June 2009

Since new techniques have allowed for gobal communications, racial
hatred and genocide denial have spread like wildfire, growing
exponentially. That hits in the first place the Jewish community, and
as of 2005 Turkish and Azerbaïdjani ultranationalists keep spreading
an insulting and unbearable denial towards Armenians. They rage
blithely on the web. No authority is putting them to silence, although
over seventy countries, legislative assemblies, and international
authorities have acknowledged the genocide of the Armenians in 1915
in their homeland, in addition to the 1894 and 1909 massacres. Visit
Nicole Rouffiac’s website It is about time to end these devastating
attempts of denialists. For that purpose they should be denounced to
get them out of the Web, specially from Facebook and You Tube. The
countries which recognized the Armenian genocide must take steps to
pass a law which will expose any Armenian Genocide denial to penalties.

Ten millions of Armenians spread over the world have contributed to
the development of the host countries at all levels, but they have been
misled too many times since the year 1915. They do not expect any false
commiseration. They wish, they now demand justice on grounds of human
rights and morality, not on the basis of geostrategic considerations
which finally led to the 20th century20atrocities.

Now Armenians say that’s enough! Armenians are not as flexible as
one could think. They will not accept the excesses of ‘realpolitik’.

When all is said and done, while some in Turkey are moving softly
towards the acknowledgement of the Ottoman crime, we observe an
ultranationalist toughening aiming to definitively shelve the
Armenian issue.

Unfortunatelly, we observe that the constant denial of the turkish
state does nothing but strenghen the ultranationalist determination
to the detriment of truth and justice.

We call on our lawyers to bring action against denialist groups
acting in Facebook. We ask every Armenian to bring these groups to
the attention of Facebook and You Tube for putting these insults to
our Martyrs to an end. As their descendants, we are also affected
and will remain affected until ‘modern’ Turkey will acknowledge the
crime which Â"Young TurksÂ" have perpetrated.

PERMANENT PEOPLES TRIBUNAL : SENTENCE (extracts) 1984

a) General rules on Genocide

Under the terms of the prevention and repression of the crime of
genocide, adopted by the Assembly General of the United Nations,
the 9th of December 1948, genocide is a Â" crime under international
law Â", Â" whether committed in times of peace or times of war Â"
(article 1).[…] This Convention was=2 0formally entered in force
on January 12, 1951, and was ratified by Turkey on July 31, 1950.

b) Accusation of genocide of the Armenian people

The Armenians constitute beyond doubt a national group as seen by the
rule prohibiting genocide. The conclusion is all the more evident that
they constitute a people protected by the right of self-determination,
which necessarily implies that they are also a group the destruction
of which is prohibited by the rule relative to genocide. […]

The government of Young Turks is guilty of this genocide, in regards
to the acts perpetrated between 1915 and 1917 ;

The Armenian genocide is also Â" International Crime Â", of which the
Turkish State must assume responsibility, without being able to use
the pretext of discontinuity of this State in order to excuse itself
there from ;

This responsibility requires the primary obligation to recognize
officially the reality of this genocide and the consequential prejudice
suffered by the Armenian people. The Organization of the United Nations
and each of its members have the right to claim this recognition and
to assist the Armenian people to this end.

Carnegie Hall – One Stop In Young Pianist’s Career

CARNEGIE HALL – ONE STOP IN YOUNG PIANIST’S CAREER

Hall in New York City

NEW YORK – For most of us, entry to Carnegie Hall is granted through
the box office. But local pianist Jon Beckwith’s first experience
in New York’s premiere arts venue was on the stage as part of an
international concert on Memorial Day.

Beckwith, 19, a 2008 Corunna High School graduate, attends the elite
Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music in Berea, Ohio. Another
student at the Conservatory, Michael Krikor Brandt, of Chicago,
was looking for a pianist to accompany him in a selection for the
trombone. Both have just completed their freshman year.

"I typically perform piano solo pieces," Beckwith said. "When working
with another individual performer, the pianist’s job is to make
someone else look good. It’s a whole other ball game."

Brandt submitted a recording of his individual work to a scholarship
competition sponsored by the Armenian Youth Cultural Organization
which was open to students of Armenian descent. Brandt’s heritage
is Armenian and he was selected for the scholarship. The selected
students, 17 in all, were invited to play in the Armenian Arts
Festival, a concert being staged at Carnegie Hall and broadcast
live to the former Soviet Republic country of Armenia. The concert
was a major event honoring the more than 25,000 who died in the 1988
earthquake that devastated the city of Spitak, an event that occurred
before either of the musicians were born.

For the concert, Brandt chose to perform the Concerto for Trombone and
Military Band by Nikolai Rimski-Korsokov. The trombone line contains
the melody while the piano score is a reduction of the orchestra. The
music is complex and challenging in both notation and interpretation,
so Brandt began to look for an accomplished pianist, which brought
him to Beckwith.

"When Mike invited me to play with him, there was such a burst of
excitement," Beckwith said. "I never thought I would perform at
Carnegie, certainly not this early in my career. And then I thought
‘This is going to look great on my resume.’" Beckwith practiced
the music for a week and then joined with Brandt for a second week
of practice. The selection the two would play lasted for just more
than two minutes.

Carnegie Hall was built in 1891 and includes three performance
halls. The largest is the Main Hall, also known as the Issac Stern
Auditorium/Ronald O. Perelman Stage. Below the Main Hall is the Zankel
Recital Hall, and on the third floor is the intimate Weill Recital
Hall, originally called the Chamber Music Hall, which served as the
location for the Armenian Arts Festival Concert.

"We did try to peek into the Main Hall," Beckwith laughed, "but the
door was locked. I’d love to go back and play there another time."

The day of the concert, the duet joined the other 16 performing groups
in warming up. Their selection was placed far into the second half
of the concert.

"Neither of us were very nervous," Beckwith recalled. "We were well
prepared and we knew the music well."

So well in fact, that Beckwith had memorized his complex piano part.

"Musically, we did a very good job conveying the mood of the piece,"
he said.

Beckwith’s parents, Rev. Norm and Chris Beckwith, were able to be
with their son for his New York debut. He saw them sitting in the
fourth row as he looked out from the stage.

"At least one of them has been there for almost every performance I
have ever had," he said. "They were both extremely proud. My parents
have been very supportive my entire life."

Beckwith has been playing piano for 12 years and studied with local
musician Glenda Davis for 10 of those years.

"She developed my talent to the point of my entry to the Conservatory,"
he said. "If you really want to be successful, you can’t get by on
just talent. All talent has to be developed and that takes working
at your ability."

Beckwith, who now lives with his parents in Oakley, practices
piano four hours a day, even during the summer months. He plays for
weddings, funerals, church services, and other events and is also
teaching piano lessons for all ages. New students can reach him at
[email protected].

"I don’t think being successful in music comes with a few big
performances," he said. "Success is made in the everyday commitment
to the music you play."

Of course, adding a Carnegie Hall credit to your resume can’t hurt.
