TURKISH NATIONALISTS ACCUSED OF PLOTTING COUP D’ETAT IN 2009

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ A large number of documents clearly showing the
hierarchical structure of the group have also been seized in the
recent operations. The organization’s manifesto and even organizational
charts showing the hierarchy of the group, future plans and lists of
agencies the organization plans to infiltrate are among the documents
Prosecutor Zekeriya Oz has already been through. According to a report
from the Hurriyet daily, some members of the Ergenekon network were
in the past active members of Hizbullah.

The suspects detained in Tuesday’s operation included Veli Kucuk,
a retired major general who is also the alleged founder of an illegal
intelligence unit in the gendarmerie, the existence of which is denied
by officials; controversial ultranationalist lawyer Kemal Kerincsiz,
who filed countless suits against Turkish writers and intellectuals
who were at odds with Turkey’s official policies; Fikret Karadag,
a retired army colonel; Sevgi Erenerol, the press spokesperson for
a group called the Turkish Orthodox Patriarchate; Guler Komurcu, a
columnist for the Aksam daily; and Sami Hostan, a key figure in the
Susurluk investigation. Ali Yasak, a well-known gangster linked to the
figures in the Susurluk incident, was also detained in the operation.

A police investigation into a neo-nationalist gang believed to be
the extension of a clandestine network of groups with members in the
armed forces has discovered that the group was plotting to stage a
coup against the government in the year 2009 and that suspects so
far apprehended are only the collaborators of the real plotters in
the military, Turkish newspapers reported on Friday.

The investigation into the gang, 33 of whose members were taken into
police custody earlier this week as part of an investigation into an
arms depot found in Istanbul in June of last year, has exposed solid
links between an attack on the Council of State in 2006, threats and
attacks against people accused of being unpatriotic and a 1996 car
crash known as the Susurluk incident, which revealed links between
a police chief, a convicted ultranationalist fugitive and a member
of Parliament as well as links to plans of some groups in Turkey’s
powerful military to overthrow the government.

The gang is a part of a structure named Ergenekon, declared a
terrorist organization by the Istanbul Chief Prosecutor’s Office,
an aggregation of many groups of varying sizes, many of which have in
their names adjectives such as "patriotic," "national," "nationalist,"
"Kemalist" or "Ataturkist." Ergenekon is the name of a legend that
describes how Turks came into existence.

The investigation has found that the Ergenekon phenomenon,
also referred to as Turkey’s "deep state," stages attacks using
"behind-the-scenes" paramilitary organizations to manipulate public
opinion according its own political agenda.

The investigation has so far found that the Ergenekon organization had
plotted to kill Turkey’s Nobel Prize-winning author Orhan Pamuk and
other public figures to drag Turkey into chaos to create the perfect
environment for a coup – not unlike the atmosphere of the pre-1980
period, which ended with a violent military takeover – that was to be
staged in 2009. Evidence so far also suggests that 700 kilograms of
explosives found loaded on a van in Istanbul belonged to this gang,
which is also supposed to have plotted the assassination of Armenian
journalist Hrant Dink, Turkish media reports.

ARMENIAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE ARAM HARUTIUNIAN PLEASED BY THE PROCESS OF THE PRE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN

Mediamax
January 29, 2008

Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenian Presidential candidate Arman Harutiunian
stated in Yerevan today that he is pleased by the process of the
pre-election campaign.

Mediamax reports that, speaking at a news conference, he noted that
the TV-Companies equally cover all the candidates, and the authorities
make no obstacles. At that the presidential candidate noted that in
the process of agitation, the candidates do not disdain to use dirty
techniques, and the first candidate to use those techniques was the
Armenian Ex-President Levon Ter-Petrosian.

Aram Harutiunian informed that starting from February 2, he will
begin visiting the regions of Armenia, "since after my speeches on
TV, the electors have question, which should receive irrefragable
answers". The candidate expressed confidence that he has advantage over
certain candidates, however he refrained from giving concrete names.

Aram Harutiunian stated that "if each citizen defends his/her vote,
it will become impossible to falsify the elections".

NATO Summit, UAE, The House that Ataturk,Hussein, Nasser Built

NATO Summit, UAE, The House that Ataturk,Hussein, Nasser Built

Sunday, January 27, 2008

In the last couple of days, January 24, 2008, NATO’s Secretary
General visited the UAE for the first time ever. Amongst subjects
discussed, naturally, GCC and NATO expansion, then, the upcoming NATO
Summit in April, 2008 in Bucharest, Romania. At this Bucharest
summit, apparently, Kosovo and Afghanistan will be on the agenda and
NATO expansion to the following, amongst any others not mentioned,
Croatia, Albania, Macedonia, Georgia and Ukraine. "Darfur" and the
African Union also come up, according to reports I’ve read. For
anyone looking for "change" on ANY of the above from ANY current
American politicians in the presidential farce, you are a total and
complete moron. Just the opposite. Furthermore, expect an Armenian
"genocide" resolution to be passed by Congress after the Presidential
election.

In the following, the BG/Palestine/Israel Gas Deal is reviewed, once
again. I’m delighted to see others deciphering this story. However,
important pieces of information are missing in the following
synopsis, pieces required to get a more accurate casual picture of
events,

In my previous blogs of June 3 and June 20, 2007 I linked to numerous
articles with information regarding the competing Palestine Authority
and Egypt’s EMG/BG/Israel offshore Gas deal. Since my previous
blogspot goes on and off, (try it ocassionally and look for the above
dates) I will include just one significant direct link regarding EMG
from those previous blogs. I draw your attention in the following to
the one critical remark in the "Comment" section underneath, below,
the following article,
the-mubaraks-own

However, I wholeheartedly disagree with the reason the author in the
comment section gives for American "interest" in the deal. Following
from the preceeding, more current news, regarding EMG and Ampal,
php?id=251845

Additionally, as I had pointed out, the newly expanded Dana Gas
empire is now exploring for gas in Egypt. And multibillionaire Sam
Zell has recently acquired a controlling interest in EMG, along with
the "institutional investors" referred to above. Then, there are/were
plans by Khashoggi, Nimrodi and "other investors" to develop Gaza
into a gambling, casino playground. See my previous blog entry,
January 24, 2008, below, "Our A-rabs," on this subject.

As for the progressive, secular, nationalist, socialist House(s) that
Ataturk, Hussein and Nasser built, they are being deconstructed and
torn down by all the above. But, it is NOT a done deal, it is not
complete. Resistance is everywhere, except, of course, in the
politically neutered US. With the collaboration and support of ALL
the above, together, and global support, it can be reversed,
including the House that Lenin built, and others.

Responsibility of slanderers

Lragir, Armenia
Jan 28 2008

RESPONSIBILITY OF SLANDERERS

In a meeting at the Center community of Yerevan on January 27 the
presidential candidate Serge Sargsyan stated that those who are busy
with slander during the campaign are not responded to because the
government does not want to kindle mutual accusations but they will
hold a fair election and all the slanderers will be made responsible.
Serge Sargsyan said so, noting that by saying responsibility he does
not mean sending slanderers to prison.

On January 28 another presidential candidate Vazgen Manukyan, who was
hosted at the Pastark Press Club, was asked to comment on Serge
Sargsyan’s statement about responsibility of slanderers as an
opposition activist and a presidential candidate, and was asked
whether he thinks it is a hint at post-election repressions.

`There has always been repression in Armenia, and repression has
never been consistent, however, there have always been repressive
elements. You see, when people think of how to get used rather than
how to change, no repression is needed. People may get used
gradually, and no necessity will arise. Elections were held in the
Soviet Union. What of it? The elections were falsified,’ Vazgen
Manukyan asks. According to him, everyone cast into the ballot box
what was necessary. `If it goes on like this, we will gradually
become a country where elections mean nothing to people.
Unfortunately, we are now on this track, but I am sure nobody will
let me take this track. Simply we are living in a complicated region,
we have such complicated issues that sooner or later we must be more
careful and serious,’ Vazgen Manukyan says.

Turkey Should Improve Freedom Of Speech

TURKEY SHOULD IMPROVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ "If Turkey ever wants to be part of Europe, it has
to improve its record concerning freedom of religion and expression,"
said leader of the Dutch Christian Democratic faction, Pieter van
Geel. The Dutch Christian Democrats support Turkish membership of
the European Union in principle.

In 2006 the Dutch parliament adopted a law recognizing the Armenian
Genocide. Presently, the majority of parliamentarians call on the
Turkish government to repeal article 301 which restricts freedom
of speech.

BAKU: Azeri Officials Ridicule Idea Of Tying Karabakh And Olympics-2

AZERI OFFICIALS RIDICULE IDEA OF TYING KARABAKH AND OLYMPICS-2016 ISSUES

ECHO
Jan 23 2008
Azerbaijan

Several Azerbaijani officials have slammed the idea that Armenia
would support Azerbaijan’s bid to host the 2016 Olympic Games while
Azerbaijan would hand Nagornyy Karabakh over to Armenia.

On 22 January, the Azerbaijani Ekho newspaper quoted unnamed Armenian
sources as saying that "the Armenians are ready to render Azerbaijan
assistance in its bid for the 2016 Olympic Games in exchange for
Azerbaijan’s consent to give Karabakh to Armenia".

In an interview with Azerbaijan’s Ekho newspaper published on
22 January, the head of the foreign relations department of the
Azerbaijani Youth and Sports Ministry, Ilham Madatov, said: "This
kind of issue cannot be on the agenda for discussions. The hosting of
the Olympic Games and the Nagornyy Karabakh problem can in no way be
discussed… We cannot accept these kinds of publications as normal."

Madatov said that Armenia cannot offer a 100-per-cent guarantee that
Azerbaijan would be the host of the 2016 Olympic Games and added that
only someone with "abnormal thinking" could have come up with such
a proposal.

The spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Xazar Ibrahim,
said that the idea could only be described as absurd.

"It is not even worth commenting on, I’ve never heard of such madness,"
Ibrahim said.

The head of Baku’s youth and sports department, Raqif Abbasov, told
the paper that "Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity is not a subject
for discussion, particularly as the subject of a transaction.

Karabakh is an integral part of our country and this will always be
the case".

Abbasov believes that Azerbaijan does not need Armenia to lobby for
its bid to host the 2016 Olympic Games.

Georgia Objects To Separatists’ Appearance At Council Of Europe

GEORGIA OBJECTS TO SEPARATISTS’ APPEARANCE AT COUNCIL OF EUROPE

Rustavi-2 TV
Jan 23 2008
Georgia

Russia has demanded that representative offices of [Georgia’s
separatist regions of] South Ossetia and Abkhazia be created at the
Council of Europe. The head of the Russian delegation [Konstantin
Kosachev] deems the Council of Europe bound to listen to Abkhaz and
South Ossetian leaders. Kosachev accused the Council of Europe of
loyalty towards Georgia, saying that the Council of Europe is using
double standards regarding Georgia. Members of the Russian delegation
assume responsibility for assessing the monitoring of Georgia [as
heard]. One more issue regarding Russia was included in a Council of
Europe resolution. The resolution said that international organizations
depend on Russia financially and every organization should take this
into account when making decisions.

[MP Levan Berdzenishvili, member of the Georgian delegation at the
Council of Europe] [Abkhaz separatist leader Sergey] Bagapsh and
[South Ossetian separatist leader Eduard] Kokoyty do not represent
any country. If the Georgian state has the desire to bring here the de
facto leaders of its regions, this will be so. Of course, the Armenian
[as heard] delegation is not right in this case. Until Georgia and
its territorial integrity exist, neither Bagapsh and Kokoyty nor,
incidentally, [Dmitriy] Sanakoyev, [head of the Tbilisi-backed
temporary administration for South Ossetia] will be invited here. At
any rate, there will be no consent from us.

[Elene Tevdoradze, chairwoman of the Georgian Parliament Human Rights
Committee] It is unimaginable and impossible today for Europe to
support separatists and their supporters.

[Nino Nakashidze, chairwoman of the Georgian Parliament European
Integration Committee] What should their [Bagapsh’s and Kokoyty’s]
status be when they come here? De facto presidents? Representatives
of what? Whose representatives? We believe that these kinds of
attempts are provocative. You know that there have been these kinds
of statements not only at the Council of Europe, but also at the
UN Security Council, but they have not ended positively for the
Russian side.

million cubic meters, a 17.5 percent increase in its use.

ArmRosGazprom, which Russia’s Gazprom holds a controlling stake in,
is the sole provider of natural gas for Armenia.

Self-Determination Of Nagorno-Karabakh Cannot Be An Object For Trade

SELF-DETERMINATION OF NAGORNO-KARABAKH CANNOT BE AN OBJECT FOR TRADE

While presenting his election program on January 21 Arthur
Baghdasaryan spelled out his stance on the settlement of the Karabakh
conflict. According to the presidential candidate, the independence
of Karabakh must be recognized, there must be definite guarantees of
security and land communication with Armenia.

"The self-determination of Nagorno-Karabakh and unification with
Armenia cannot be an object for trade, as well as the security of
NKR and border with Armenia," Arthur Baghdasaryan says. He underlined
that Nagorno-Karabakh must participate in the talks.
