Turkey in the Middle of the Enemies

by Jaff Sassani

The Turks moved in to the Middle East after the Arab Islamic army
destroyed the Sassanid Empire. The absence of the strong Iranian army
to protect the borders did open the border gates wide for millions of
Turks to move in to the region.

The Ottoman Empire (1299-1923) was established much later in the
region, to lead the Islamic Sunni sect against the Islamic shitte sect
in Iran, plus the continuation of the Islamic Jihads (holly war)
against non believers. The Ottoman Empire declared war on Christians
in the Middle East. They used the Arabs, Kurds and other nationalities
in their war for Islam expansion by force.

The process of elimination started with the Greek people. They cleaned
the area from today Israel to the current border of today Greek in
less than 200 years. The last stand of the Christian in Istanbul ended
by the Sultan Mohammed II (1432-1481), called Faith or Conqueror. The
cleansing of the Christian communities of Greek, Armenian, Georgian,
Bulgarian and others never stopped until the end of the Ottoman
Empire.

The Genocide of the Christian people in the Middle East opened the
room for the Arabs, Kurds and Turks to gain lots of land in that
region. The process of cleansing of Christian people continued in
modern Turkey too.

The Arabs revolted against the Ottoman Empire in world wars. They
liberated themselves from the Turks for good.

The new Turkish Republic was created by the General Mustafa Kemal
Atatürk (19 May 1881 – 10 November 1938), who was an army officer,
revolutionary statesman, and founder of the Republic of Turkey as well
as its first President. He was affected by the idea of Hitler of
Germany in his nationalistic views. He established the new country as
one nation, one language and one flag for Turks without any regard for
other nationalities within Turkey. This idea put other nationalities
within Turkey in direct conflict with Turks.

The Kurds are the last people to have been in the line of the process
of genocide in Turkey. The wars of genocide against the Kurds are in
progress even in this modern world. On one hand, Turkey wants to be a
member of the European Union and, on other hand, is busy in the
process of the Kurds’ elimination.

The US Government since World War I has been supporting the Turks in
Turkey against all the logics. The reasons are very clear because of
Turkey’s location. The US Government needed Turkey to stop Russian
expansions. The Russians are in Iran now. The US Government and Israel
need Turkey to stop Russian expansion. Will the Kurds face the
Armenian solution, or is there hope for their survival?

The new administration has to make decisions with regard to Russia,
Turkey and Iran in the coming days. The influence of Clinton-Ian and
other old fashioned American policy in the region won’t help the
American image and its interest in the region unless the new President
departs from old doctrines.

The new President should work hard with the Europeans to bring the
Russians into the European Union. They have to convince Russia to join
the Union for their own good. Then they can have justice for the
Greeks, Armenians, Georgians, Bulgarians, Kurds and others who were
hurt by the Turks in the region for over 700 years.

The right thing to do, Mr. President-elect, is to support the creation
of the Aryan (Iranian) Economic Union (AU) for the Iranian and Turkish
people in the region. To fight extremist and terrorist groups, you
have to have something for the people in the region. That is why we
call your administration to treat us Iranians as the US treated the
Europeans after World War II.

To support justice and peace in the world, Mr. President-elect, you
have to distance from the old fashioned American policy, special
interest groups, lobbyists and other nonsense policies that worked
against the interest of the American people. The people around the
world hate American people for good reason. Try not to listen to the
evil ideas and stay on the side of good ideas. Bring peace and respect
for hard working American people. The people of America do not want to
be Imperialist like the Russians, Turks, Arabs, British, French, other
Europeans, Japanese and many powers in the past. The original American
people and current American people run from unjust rulers around the
world. They do not like to be called American Imperialist. They like
to be called generous, friends, human, hard working, helpful,
inventors, and thousand more good names, instead of the bad image they
have now around the world.

This is your chance, Mr. President-elect, to make the difference for
the American people and people around the world. Do not get derailed
by the people who do not understand the differences between good and
evil.

HIS HOLINESS ARAM I DISCUSSES WITH HIS HOLINESS POPE BENEDICT VXI
A COMMON EASTER DATE AND A COMMON CHRISTIAN MARTYRS DAY

On the first day of his official visit to the Vatican, during a private
meeting with His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, His Holiness Aram I Catholicos
of Cilicia has shared with the Pope, according to the delegation
accompanying the Catholicos, two concrete ideas: first, setting a common
date for Easter celebration and a common Christian martyrs day to be
commemorated by world Christendom.

Catholicos Aram I believes that such an ecumenical initiative will
significantly help to give visible manifestation to Christian unity. His
Holiness Aram I believes that the Roman Catholic Church, the World Council
of Churches, the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox Churches, Christian World
Communions and regional ecumenical organizations should join their efforts
to reach a common agreement on these important questions.

The discussion between the two heads of the churches has also included
issues and concerns related to inter-church relations, inter-religious
dialogue and generally Christian presence in the Middle East.

BAKU: CoE Sec Gen: Azerbaijanis Learning Democracy Quickly

It Is Interesting How Quickly Azerbaijanis are Learning Democracy –
Interview with Council of Europe Secretary General
23.11.08 14:28

France, Strasburg, 23 November/TrendNews, corr. A. Maharramli/
Interview with Council of Europe Secretary General Terry Davis and
Azerbaijani journalist at the Day of Solidarity, organized by the
Council of Europe

Question: How would you assess the importance of the international
conference on intercultural dialogue on the 2nd and 3rd of December in
Baku?

Answer: I am looking forward to it very much. I always enjoy my visits
to your country. My only regret is that it is a short visit. I have
made a personal request that I be allowed to visit your museum. I am
very interested in the culture of Azerbaijan. I have only seen the
outside of your museum. I think you may have several museums, of one
which I want to see, is where you have two big statues outside. You
know the one I mean? Well I have asked especially to see this
museum. I know that whether it is the first time or not, I know I
would enjoy my visit, because I’ve always been welcomed by the
Azerbaijani people.

Question: How would you rate the level of tolerance in Azerbaijan?

Answer: Well, I think that Azerbaijan is good in terms of respecting
minorities, and indeed I think that Georgia is good about respecting
the Azerbaijani minority in Georgia. You know I take a special
interest in the way minorities are treated. I have a very simple
philosophy. We are all different, but we are all equal. So, what does
worry me about Azerbaijan, I must tell you, I am very worried about
the way the press and media are treated. So, I look forward to
discussing this issue with your authorities.

Question: Will you talk with President Aliyev or other officials
during this visit?

Answer: I will talk with whomever I meet. I know President Aliyev very
well indeed. In fact I knew his father. I know President Aliyev, the
current president, very well indeed. I like him very much. I think he
is working very hard to modernize Azerbaijan, so I look forward to
seeing him again during this meeting, during this visit to Baku.

Question: You know, the presidential election in Azerbaijan was very
different from the election in Georgia and Armenia. However, there are
negative points in the position of the Council of Europe. How do you
explain that?

Answer: Well, I think the elections in Azerbaijan can be better, I do
not think there is any doubt that President Aliyev was definitely
elected, but I think the way of the elections are organized can be
better, and I think that that is in the best interest of Azerbaijan
and President Aliyev. But the most important thing is this: in a
democracy, the most important thing is how you treat your
opponents. In my opinion that is actually more important than election
polls, more important than the law, more important than the electoral
polls. The real side of a democracy is how a politician treats the
people who disagree. I explain it this way. My father had two
interests. His first interest was football. His second interest was
politics. Frankly, he was more interested in football. And when I was
a boy, he said something that I now realize was very clever.

He said to me, `Remember that in politics, and in football, you play
the ball and not the other player’. There is something else he said
that was very clever, very wise.

`Always remember that you may be wrong, critically, and the other
person may be right’. Those two statements reflect the way you should
behave toward the people who disagree with you. That is more important
than the law, the way you behave toward your opponents. Everybody
knows that Azerbaijan did not have a democracy until a few years
ago. I see it as an interest that Azerbaijan, and the Azerbaijanis,
are learning very quickly.

Global economic crisis offers Armenia a chance to import cheap
industrial equipment

2008-11-21 21:09:00

ArmInfo. The global economic crisis is offering Armenia a chance to
import cheap industrial equipment, economist Tatul Manaseryan said
during a discussion of liberalization of Armenian economy today.

He said that dropping equipment prices mean shrinking productions in a
whole number of countries, including potential economic rivals of
Armenia. So, this situation may benefit Armenia. Economic crisis is a
signal for any country that it must modernize its production. "We must
hurry up. Our Government must play an active role in this process.
Particularly, we need tax concessions for high-tech products,"
Manaseryan said.

France Telecom’s Orange Receives Full Armenian Mobile Licence

by Peter Boyland

France Telecom’s Orange has officially received its Armenian mobile
licence, following an emergency meeting of the country’s regulator,
the Russian REGNUM news agency reports. Orange successfully bid 51.5
million euro ($65US million) for the full GSM and 3G spectrum licence
in October (see Armenia: 8 October 2008: ). Under the terms of the
15-year licence, France Telecom, operating under the Orange brand, is
obliged to provide GSM coverage to 43 cities in Armenia within two
years.

Significance:Orange firmly believes in the potential for the Group’s
development in the country, recently committing 200 million euro to
network rollout costs (seeArmenia: 13 October 2008: ). The operator
will now compete with the dominant K-Telecom, owned by Russia’s Mobile
TeleSystems (MTS), and Armentel, owned by Russia’s VimpelCom, which
have nearly two million subscribers between them. This level of
penetration, in Armenia’s population of around three million, means
the country is one of the more mature markets of Eurasia, with mobile
growth being stimulated by a poorly-developed fixed-line
infrastructure. Orange’s entrance into the market will clearly
stimulate competition, as it will put pressure on the existing Russian
duopoly to lower tariffs and improve service quality, while bringing
France Telecom’s huge mobile expertise to a promising new market.

They Shouldn’t Pull The Wool Over The People’s Eyes

Political Scientist Sergey Shakaryants expresses his viewpoint
regarding the last visit of the Co-Chairmen to the region.

"I’m confident and the last visit of the Co-Chairmen to the region also
showed that Karabakh issue won’t be settled in the coming one year.

The settlement of the conflict is not only and not as much conditioned
by the desire of the conflicting parties, it is rather conditioned
by big geopolitical maneuvers, that the superpowers realize in our
region for the last 16 years.

>From the first years of Armenia’s getting independent, various
mechanisms have been practiced in that political maneuver, beginning
from energy projects and communications, to interethnic clashes. At
the moment they practice the religious-political-educational factor,
the levers to "control" the region have become so various that the
countries like Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia are unfortunately
unable to overcome, on their own, the trilateral or quadrilateral
attack of the interested states.

The problem is as follows: who will rule the region, on the one hand
to turn South Caucasus into a military fulcrum and on the other hand,
not to allow South Caucasus to turn into a military fulcrum against
someone.=2 0It is quite understandable that Russia and Iran are the
supporters of the second factor, with which Armenia is in very good
relations. NATO member states are the champions of the first factor,
and Armenia is in good relations with some of these countries as well
and with some we don’t have even diplomatic relations.

This rivalry, and the contradictions between the super-powers which
have their own interests in the region, at least at this stage make
the settlement of Karabakh issue unsolvable. But it is difficult to
say what can happen after one year, if certain circles start military
actions against Iran."

"From what you said we can draw a single conclusion, that nothing
depends on us and no one asks the opinion of the conflicting parties
especially Karabakh?"

"I wouldn’t say that. In case of being consistent Karabakh can become
a factor in regional processes and from now on it must try to take
actions in that direction.

Moreover it has already started. The President, the MPs, the
representatives of the executive body and the high-ranking officials
of the armed forces have already expressed their stance. And by the
way very harsh stance, saying that until Karabakh participates in
the negotiations as a competent unit, no one should hope that any
solution dictated from this or that capital city, can be brought to
life. Karabakh has in essence said its word now Yere van’s turn came.

By inviting the leaders of the parties for a consultation President
Serge Sargsyan was most probably trying to solve that issue. That
is to say to hear the standpoints of all the political forces and to
formulate a joint opinion: "How does society view the settlement of
the conflict.

Unfortunately we don’t have similar practice, because Karabakh issue
is the vital problem, which can unite us around one idea and far not
a person.

Either our society will unite like we did in 1988; by adopting a united
stance in this issue or they will remain split among two or more poles.

Anyhow the massage of the President, from Karabakh in this regard
gives hope."

"The activists of the Armenian Pan National Movement swear everything
was ok before 1998, Karabakh was involved in the negotiation process
as a full party, but the moment Robert Kocharyan came Karabakh was
withdrawn from the negotiations. Do you agree to these assessments?"

"I’m sorry but they shouldn’t pull the wool over the people’s
eyes. Karabakh was withdrawn from the negotiation format 11 years back,
after the Lisbon Summit in December 1996. Let those who were in power
during those years explain, whether it was a secret agreement or an
instruction imposed on Armenia by means of blackmail. Those who brought
Robert Kocharyan to Armenia from Stepanakert and appointed him a Prime
Minister and said that from that day on Armenia was to represent the
interests of Nagorno Karabakh in the negotiation process. In my view
everyone understand that the conversation is about the first President
"re-elected" by falsifications in 1996 and his team.

After 1998 Robert Kocharyan tried to review that agreement several
times and it is recorded in the press, you can have a look at
it. But because they had the signature of the previous President,
the Co-Chairmen and Azerbaijan refused it. In such circumstances,
to insist on Karabakh’s participation would have meant to torpedo
Minsk process. So they chose the least of the two evils, long-term,
even if fruitless meetings, and negotiations by bilateral format. Every
bullet has its billet.
