Murder of Deputy Head of RA Police result of atmosphere of impunity

Former Ombudsperson: Murder of Deputy Head of RA Police is a result of
atmosphere of impunity

40

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 6, NOYAN TAPAN. At the RA NA February 4 sitting
parliament Speaker Hovik Abrahamian presented his condolences to the
relatives of Deputy Head of RA Police, Colonel Gevorg Mherian killed
the day before. He said that the law enforcement bodies are obliged to
immediately undertake all necessary measures to disclose the crime and
to find the criminals.

Though it was a day of question and answer with the government in NA,
none of the deputies raised the issue regarding Deputy Police Head’s
murder and demanded commentaries from the government.

Zharangutiun (Heritage) faction member, former RA Ombudsperson Larisa
Alaverdian said in her interview to Noyan Tapan correspondent that the
atmosphere of impunity in the country results not only in violation of
people’s ownership rights, which the faction has repeatedly stated, but
also in graver crimes, among which is Deputy Police Head’s murder.

It should be mentioned that 34-year-old G. Mherian was killed in the
evening of February 3 near his apartment’s entrance from fire-arms
injuries in his head.

Hackers Rename The Armenian Genocide Memorial Into Talaat Pasha Memo

HACKERS RENAME THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE MEMORIAL INTO TALAAT PASHA MEMORIAL ON GOOGLE EARTH

A hacker posted the name of Talaat Pasha on the Armenian Memorial of
Tsitsernakabert in the Google Earth, independent correspondent Jean
Eckian informed.

This intolerable profanation is signed Haluk Dolmayan. It is, actually,
the adulterated name of historian and Director of the Institute-
Museum of the Armenian Genocide, Hayk Demoyan.

By clicking on the location titled Talaat Pasha, one can see the
Yerevan memorial to the victims of the 1915 Armenian Genocide.

At this point, the question is to know how it was possible and who
the author is. Could it be a member of the personnel of Google Earth
or its partner Panoramio?

Global Gold Registers Significant Discovery in Armenia at Toukhmanuk
Friday October 17, 9:37 am ET

GREENWICH, CT–(MARKET WIRE)–Oct 17, 2008 — Global Gold Corporation
is pleased to announce that its exploration, test mining, and processing
work has uncovered a significant gold and silver discovery in the
Central Area of its Toukhmanuk property in the north central mineral
belt of Armenia. Results of recent test mining, diamond drilling of over
20,000 meters, surface sampling of the No. 1 and 15 mineralized areas
indicate that there are at least eighteen mineralized zones within a
150 m to 200 m wide east-northeast trending alteration zone in the
Central Area of the property.

These mineralized zones are 5 m to 25 m wide, extend more than 300 m
along strike, and extend to more than 150 m at depth. Assay results of
surface sampling show values ranging from 1 g/t Au to 280 g/t Au, and
from 8 g/t to 520 g/t Ag. Gold mineralization is associated with
sulphide minerals, in places as distinct veins within the wider
alteration zone. To date, Global Gold has tested only approximately 20%
of the mineralized trend in the Central Area, which is interpreted to
extend to more than 1.5 km along strike. There are other similar target
areas which have not yet been tested on the property. The entire
Toukhmanuk license area is now 51.5 square kilometers and the Central
Area is 2.2 square kilometers.

Historical GKZ (State Committee on Reserves) records in the C1, C2 and
P1 categories indicate 12.1 Million tonnes of mineralization, averaging
6.74 g/t gold and 30.79 g/t silver, including 2.6 million oz/gold and
11.9 million oz./silver, based on vein widths between 1 and 1.5 meters
in veins 1 and 15. The new discovery shows much wider veins and areas of
mineralization, in areas, at time coincident with the vein 1 and 15 GKZ
records but often divergent with those veins. Thus, new resource
estimates and mine planning are currently underway. 60,000 tonnes of ore
at an average grade of 3.6 g/t has been mined and stockpiled near the
plant for processing through the winter; recoveries for both gravitation
and flotation concentrate being produced average over 80%.

Global Gold Chairman and CEO Van Krikorian stated, "We are positively
delighted with this new discovery for ourselves and for Armenia. We
acquired this property in 2005, and had a long learning curve, requiring
us to explore new areas, think outside convention, and experiment with
our own lab and processing technologies to get to this point."

Armenian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Armen Movsissyan also
received the news of the discovery, positively noting, "Armenia has a
rich potential for precious metal mining, and I am happy to congratulate
Global Gold on this discovery and its plans to continue development.
Foreign investors should know that this government is here to help, and
we are glad that our own experts have played a role in assisting the
company here."

Global Gold commissioned its upgraded gravitation and flotation gold
processing plant in Toukhmanuk, Armenia on December 20, 2007, and is now
constructing an additional flotation and enrichment circuit to increase
concentrate grades. A new tailings dam was also constructed in 2007.
Current plant capacity is 100,000 tonnes per year. Current throughput is
approximately 6,000 tonnes per month.

In addition, the Company received international, ISO, certification for
its laboratory at the Toukhmanuk site, and has been providing laboratory
services to other companies. More recently, the Armenian Ministry of
Economy also accredited Global Gold’s laboratory as one of those
authorized to provide results for the Armenian government.

Global Gold Corporation, an international gold mining, development and
exploration company with properties in Armenia, Chile and Canada, is
committed to building shareholder value and maintaining social and
environmental responsibilities. Minera Global Chile Limitada is a
subsidiary through which Global Gold does all of its business in Chile.
Global Gold Mining LLC operates in Armenia as a subsidiary of Global
Gold Corporation.

Armenia Is Going To Improve Operations Of Customs Warehouses

ARMENIA IS GOING TO IMPROVE OPERATIONS OF CUSTOMS WAREHOUSES

RIA Oreanda
Aug 8 2008
Russia

Yerevan. OREANDA-NEWS . On August 06, 2008 RA Prime Minister Tigran
Sargsyan called a consultative meeting to discuss the ways of improving
the operations of customs warehouses, reported the Official website
.

The meeting was attended by members of the Supreme Council on New
Revenue Management Practice Introduction (SCRM), customs warehouse
executives. Tigran Sargsyan briefed them on the new requirements
and standards applicable to customs warehouses under the licensing
procedure which seek to streamline and improve their activities.

The Prime Minister stated in part:

"Our common goal is to improve the quality of services rendered by
customs warehouses throughout the country. This is supposed to call
for the combined efforts of both the customs authorities and customs
warehouse executives. In view of the above, all our undertakings
should be clear and predictable to you."

In stating those key legislative requirements binding upon both customs
service officers and warehouse operators, the Prime Minister said:
"Firstly, we must rule out any wholesale or retail trade from customs
warehouses whatsoever. We will have this rule strictly enforced. No
activity other than the one stipulated in the law and specified in
the license shall be carried out in customs warehouses. Secondly,
spaces for customs warehouses have to be clearly defined.

Thirdly, any possibility of getting in goods bypassing the customs
and taking them away from customs warehouses must be ruled out. The
fourth essential requirement bears on the compliance with the safety
standards. We are going to demand for access to all your contracts
signed with security services so as we can henceforth deal only with
licensed entities responsible for the service provided.

Together with you, we must provide the conditions necessary for
self-declarations.

This means that favorable working conditions should be created for
customs-brokers. The last requirement concerns the proper equipping of
customs warehouses which calls for investment. I mean the availability
of state-of-the-art weighing and recording devices, means of conveyance
etc. to ensure that the whole process in customs warehouses is subject
to control by both you and the customs service. We are determined to
ensure compliance with the foregoing regulations, and I would like
to ask for your cooperation in giving effect to them."

No questions having arisen with the executives of customs warehouses
regarding the above-stated requirements and standards, the Prime
Minister advised that they may turn to the RA Customs Committee by
the Government for any clarification concerning these issues.

In conclusion, once again the Prime Minister underscored the need for
working jointly towards improving the operations of customs warehouses.

Medical Supply For Stepanakert Policlinic Delivered

MEDICAL SUPPLY FOR STEPANAKERT POLICLINIC DELIVERED

armradio.am

The Armenia Fund 7 delivered equipment, office and hygiene items to
the Stepanakert Policlinic.

The supply worth $464.779, packed in 920 boxes, was passed over to
the Stepanakert Policlinic through the Ministry of Health of Nagorno
Karabakh.

The initiative is sponsored by the Armenia Fund USA Eastern Affiliate.

As a consequence of the Artsakh conflict, the country was
devastated, and there was a pressing need for an up-to-date healthcare
institution. Through its East Coast Affiliate the Armenia Fund launched
on construction of Stepanakert Policlinic. In March 2006, a modern
building, equipped with a diagnostic center and necessary facilities
was in place. To ensure adequate medical service, the Fund also held
in-service medical staff and administrative personnel trainings.

"The necessary maintenance work in the policlinic is limited to
replacing door handles and broken glasses," the newly appointed
Executive Director Karine Atayan told the Fund working group visiting
the policlinic within the Project Condition Survey of the Armenia
Fund projects for 2002-2007. The visit coincided with the bothersome
time of lack of running water from the external network, but that had
not affected the hygiene and sanitary conditions of the clinic; the
management made sure that the policlinic water tanks were regularly
stocked up with water necessary to take care of the policlinic’s needs.

According to Ms. Atayan, as of December 2007, 83,815 people underwent
general therapeutic treatment, 24,228 were screened and examined,
and 26,492 had laboratory tests. "I believe good conditions in a
medical institution are vital to the recovery of patients. It is more
important though, that the Karabakh residents feel confident about
the healthcare service in their country. With this in mind the Fund
also embarked on the renovation of the Hadrut Regional Hospital which
is to be completed in mid 2008," said Vahe Aghabegians, the executive
director of the Armenia Fund.
