Armenian-American actor and director Roman Mitichyan has recently released his new movie Real Heroes Don't Die, the premiere of which took place in Los Angeles. The actor has also appeared on CBS action drama S.W.A.T. ( season 5×07) embodying the main villain character of the episode.

In his new interview with NEWS.am STYLE Roman shared the details of his recent work and talked about upcoming news.

“Real Heroes Don't Die is a dark comedy about Armenian Grandpa, who served in the World War. The main characters of this short movie are the Grandpa and Nazi General. I had a pleasure of working with some great actors, such as Grigor Ogaryan, Micheal Pashan, Mkrtich Elbakyan, David Sargsyan, Drew Taylor Brown, and others. We took another way to bring the characters on screen as far as they still live with their past”, says the actor, “The film was premiered a few months ago in Los Angeles. Because of the pandemic, we all faced challenges but, thank God, we managed to overcome them. At this moment we don’t plan to show the film in Armenia, because we are planning to take it to festivals first”.

As for the S.W.A.T. and another “bad guy” embodied by him, Roman says that he is always happy for getting the chance to work with professional team and cast.

“Anyway, it feels great when the directors trust me with the role and every role is important. I’ve been blessed working in Hollywood with such great directors and producers. Now I am working on becoming the “good guy” in the films”, he jokes.

During this period Armenian actor is also working on some new projects about which he promised to speak in the near future.

The phone call comes amid renewed tension in Karabakh (Artsakh). In the past two days, Azerbaijan has been using drones and other munitions to attack Nagorno-Karabakh and has managed to capture a village, kill two soldiers and injure at least five others. It was reported on Friday that lengthy negotiations of the Russian peacekeeping troops have not yielded significant results, and that the Azeris have not returned to the starting positions.

Shoigu and Hasanov weighed in on "the ways to stabilize the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and maintain security in South Caucasus," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement. The two also discussed the course of the peacekeeping operation and the humanitarian situation in the region.

Armenia’s Representative on International Legal Matters has submitted a request with the European Court of Human Rights for urgent interim measures over Azerbaijan's recent violations of the rights of the people of Artsakh.

An Armenian church in Bursa, Turkey, is collapsing and crumbling day by day as a result of carelessness.

After the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, this Armenian church in the Kurtoglu neighborhood of Bursa's Yildirim District was transferred to a person as private property, but it was not taken care of and preserved for years, Hurriyet reports.

Also, this church has been a target of treasure hunters for many years, due to which it is now in danger of collapsing.

Kurtoglu prefect Ahmet Gedik said that the condition of this Armenian church worries Bursa residents, who want it to be renovated and serve the development of tourism in the city.

Gedik added that the owner of this church had tried to sell it several times, but did not succeed due to some problems.

The prefect expressed hope that the Turkish authorities would buy and renovate this Armenian church.

YEREVAN, MARCH 19, ARMENPRESS. Rosa Linn, Armenia’s representative at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, has just released her entry song “Snap”, together with the official music video.

Rosa says this song is a journey into her inner world, a personal story everyone can relate to: “I think we’ve all been at a snapping point, where it felt like there’s no way out and that the entire world is just crumbling down around you. You start questioning everything, including yourself. I have been there. And what I realized was that I had the strength to shape my reality – it just took getting out of my own way and finding inner-peace. It’s all about self-love and accepting that you are enough. Writing “Snap” was a form of therapy for me and I hope that it can be that for others who are also going through hard times."

“Snap” was written by Rosa Linn, Larzz Principato, Courtney Harrell, Allie Crystal, Tamar Mardirossian Kaprelian. Lyrics by Rosa Linn, Larzz Principato, Courtney Harrell, Allie Crystal, Tamar Mardirossian Kaprelian, Jeremy Dusoulet

Channel One’s music producer Anushik Ter-Ghukasyan says minor adjustments have been made to the initial version of the song composed by Rosa. “Snap” is honest, uplifting and very emotional. That’s because Rosa wrote the song herself and she’s telling her own story. When it comes to production, I am very happy that this year we have an extraordinary team working on “Snap” – from Yerevan all the way to LA.”

The song was produced by Alex Salibian, Ethan Schneiderman, Larzz Principato, Ben Samama, Lilith Navasardyan (Armenia). Mixing and mastering was done by Grammy winner Tony Maseratti, who collaborated with Aretha Franklin, Beyoncé, Sia, Selena Gomez, Sher, Lady Gaga and other world-famous artists.

“Snap” is a vulnerable, honest, well-crafted pop song,” says Nvak co-founder Tamar Kaprelian. “It will hopefully bring new attention to this up-and-coming generation of Armenian singers, songwriters, and producers.”

The music video was directed by Aramayis Hayrapetyan. “Once I heard “Snap”, I kept thinking that I had to show the artist’s emotions as comprehensibly and correctly as possible. Not leaving the artist in the background was an important precondition for me. We made the video for the purpose of giving the viewers a chance to travel to another, extraordinary reality through artistic and visual solutions,” says Hayrapetyan.

IMF slashes forecast for Armenian economic growth for 2022

The IMF had predicted last December that the Armenian economy would grow by 5.3% in 2022, and by 5% in 2023.
By Javid Agha in Baku

The Armenian economy might grow by only 1.5% in 2022, the IMF has said, a much slower pace than previously forecast by the fund and other international financial institutions, because of the regional and global economic impacts of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

The preliminary forecast was voiced by the head of the IMF team, Thanos Arvanitis, who conducted the sixth final review of the economic programme of Armenia, implemented within the framework of the Stand-By Agreement (SBA) assistance programme, from March 1 to March 6.

“Large-scale sanctions on Russia, higher food and fuel prices, reduced remittances and heightened volatility in global financial markets are expected to widen the current account deficit in the coming months, drive up inflation and dampen economic growth. While there is considerable uncertainty about the extent of the impact on Armenia, as the situation is still evolving, our preliminary estimate is that the economy could grow by around 1.5% in 2022, at a much slower pace than previously expected.” Arvanitis said.

The IMF had predicted last December that the Armenian economy would grow by 5.3% in 2022, and by 5% in 2023.

“Armenia’s economy continued to recover, recording a growth of 5.7% in 2021 and continuing strong growth in early 2022. Annual inflation in the consumer price index declined steadily, hitting 6.5% in February, helped by tightening monetary policy. Fiscal policy has helped mitigate the impact of shocks on the economy over the past two years but remains tied to the broader goal of debt sustainability, and tax policy and administrative reforms continue to broaden the tax base,” he said.

The IMF estimates that the budget deficit narrowed to 4.7% of GDP in 2021, mainly due to cuts in government spending.

“The external position has strengthened, especially in 2021, as the current account deficit narrowed during the COVID-19 pandemic, while remittances remained strong and eurobond issuance and SDR placements boosted international reserves. The banking system has remained fairly capitalised and liquid, and asset quality has improved,” Arvanitis said in a statement.

The economic growth of Armenia in the state budget for 2022 is provided for in the amount of 7%, and inflation is set at 4% (± 1.5%). Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan noted in January that the government predicts that the country's economy will grow by 7% in 2022, while the central bank in March predicted a 1.6% growth in the country's economy in 2022.

In the January report of the World Bank “Prospects for the World Economy” (Global Economic Prospects, January 2022), the forecast for the growth of the Armenian economy for 2022 was 4.8%, and for 2023 5.4%.

The EBRD, in its Regional Economic Outlook report for November last year, predicted that the Armenian economy would grow by 5% in 2021 and by 5.3% in 2022.

Rating agency Fitch Ratings predicts a recovery in Armenia's real GDP growth to 5.5% in 2021, a slowdown to 5.3% in 2022 and to 4.7% in 2023.

Standard & Poor's expects real GDP in Armenia to grow by 6.3% in 2021 and by 4.6% in 2022.

General Staff: Russia plans to transfer its units from Armenia to Ukraine

Ukraine –
The Russian Federation, trying to restore the combat capability of its units in the territory of Ukraine, plans to transfer to Ukraine some units from the 102-nd Russian military base in Armenia.

“The twenty-third day of the heroic resistance of the Ukrainian people to the Russian military invasion continues. Continuing attempts to restore the combat capability of individual units involved in hostilities, the military leadership of the russian federation plans to transfer to Ukraine some units from the 102-nd Russian military base in Armenia,” the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine posted on Facebook.

As noted, the refusal of some servicemen of the russian federation to take part in hostilities is confirmed, which is due to the low level of moral and psychological condition of the russian occupiers after the clashes with the Ukrainian defense forces. Thus, in particular, at the permanent deployment point of the 20th Motorized Rifle Division of the 8th All-Military Army of the Southern Military District, about 130 servicemen refused to take part in hostilities. The enemy personnel was demoralized, suicides and self-mutilation became more frequent.

“Due to the lack of positive results and inability to fulfill the set tasks, it is planned to remove Colonel Vadym Pankov, commander of the 45th special brigade of the special purpose air force of the russian Armed Forces. He is accused of failing to perform a combat mission at Hostomel airfield,” reads the report.

Meanwhile, the pro-government russian media continue to spread false information about the armed aggression of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine. The creation and distribution of staged propaganda videos through all available information channels, including in the countries of the European Union and the United States, in order to discredit the activities of the military-political leadership and the Defense Forces of Ukraine continues.

In the city of Dzhankoi, in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, training in local secondary schools has been suspended with their further use to accommodate servicemen of the armed forces of the russian federation arriving in the city.

In the Chernihiv region, russian occupiers are intimidating locals to quell civilian resistance.

The occupiers continue to defiantly violate the norms of international humanitarian law and destroy the infrastructure of cities, creating the preconditions for deepening the humanitarian crisis.

The Defense Forces of Ukraine continue step by step to liberate the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine in all directions, the General Staff stressed.

As reported, the total combat losses of the enemy from February 24 to March 18 are about as follows: 14,200 people, 450 tanks, 1,448 armored combat vehicles, 205 artillery systems, 72 MLRS, 43 air defense units, 93 aircraft, 112 helicopters, 879 vehicles, 3 ships/boats, 60 fuel tanks, 12 UAVs of operational and tactical level, 11 units of special equipment. Data are being updated. The calculation is complicated by the high intensity of hostilities.

Armenia opposition MP: Azerbaijan will use statements of lawmaker Aghajanyan, FM Mirzoyan

NEWS.am
Armenia –

The opposition "Armenia" and "With Honor" Factions had applied to the National Assembly (NA) leadership with a proposal to convene a special sitting of the interparliamentary committee of the parliaments of Armenia and Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh)—which is being delayed. "Armenia" Faction Gegham Manukyan MP told about this to reporters in the NA Friday, reminding that the aforesaid committee that was set up in October 2021 has not convened a full meeting yet.

And reflecting on their recent visit to Artsakh, Manukyan noted as follows, in particular: "It was an ‘electrified’ atmosphere—taking into account both the controversial statements of Armenia’s Foreign Minister [Ararat Mirzoyan] and the statements of Eduard Aghajanyan, Chair of the NA [Standing] Committee on Foreign Relations, which are dangerous, go beyond all logic. Naturally, this cannot but have an effect on our compatriots in Artsakh."

Manukyan noted that several years ago, Former president of Azerbaijan Ayaz Mutalibov had stated that the Popular Front of Azerbaijan had organized the tragic events in Khojaly, and the Armenian side has been using this as an argument to this day.

"Now the Azerbaijani side will use the statements of Eduard Aghajanyan and Ararat Mirzoyan," the opposition MP added.
