Armenian Media Can Influence Azeri Public – Expert

ARMENIAN MEDIA CAN INFLUENCE AZERI PUBLIC – EXPERT

PanARMENIAN.Net
April 19, 2012 – 14:48 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s statement on
Armenia’s defeat in the information war is not true to fact, Armenian
political analyst said.

“Aliyev claimed that Armenia took active steps to ‘degrade Azerbaijan
in the eyes of international community. However, that’s no longer
scares Azerbaijan’,” Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan told a press conference,
adding that Azeri President didn’t name the specific fields of
Armenia’s alleged defeat.

Dwelling on the impact of Azeri media on Armenians, the expert noted
that the situation has radically changed since 2003, with Armenian
media having notable influence on certain layers of the Azerbaijani
society.

Mr. Melik-Shahnazaryan further noted that different national groups in
Azerbaijan demonstrate different approach to Armenian media, having
numerous times addressed Armenian media with a request to shed light
on pressures, namely human rights violations, even physical destruction
by the Azerbaijani authorities.

The expert said that Armenian media have great prospects in that
direction.

YEREVAN

YEREVAN, APRIL 19, ARMENPRESS: “Armenian Genocide” monograph by
Professor Nikolay Hovhannisyan has been published in Bucharest in
Romanian.

The work is also available in English, German, French, Russian,
Turkish, Japan, Hungarian, Armenian, Arabic, Persian and Korean,
an official from the Armenian Association of Political Sciences

While writing the work, the author has adapted the work for the
foreign reader, who is sometimes unaware of well known historical
realities and facts.

A special chapter is dedicated to the issue of international
recognition of the Armenian Genocide and lawsuit of the young Turks
in 1919. The decision of the Turkish Court proves that once Turkey
has already recognized the Armenian Genocide, and today the speech
is about re-recognition.

The work also refers to recognition of the Armenian Genocide by
parliaments of different states of Europe, South and Northern Americas
and Asia, which number today reaches 21.

Bone Health a Focus of FAR Effort in Armenia

Three medical centers in Armenia and Nagorno-Karabagh received bone
densitometer machines-indispensable equipment in the evaluation of bone
health-thanks to the generosity of Dr. John Bilezikian, professor of
medicine and pharmacology at Columbia University, and the
Massachusetts-based Hologic Company.

The machines arrived in 2011 in an effort coordinated by the Fund for
Armenian Relief. FAR is also helping organize the training sessions
local doctors need to use the new equipment. This includes last month’s
visit by instructor Larry Mowat of the Hologic Company to train medical
staff.

Dr. Bilezikian’s continued support of Armenia’s medical institutions
has also included a lecture series he organized through FAR last fall
on the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis. The lectures drew a
range of specialists from Yerevan and from Armenia’s provincial
hospitals, and gave them the opportunity to become familiar with the
latest methods in identifying and treating the bone disease.

ZHARANGUTIUN PARTY VOWS TO ATTRACT $1.5 BILLION TO ARMENIA IF COMES TO POWER

YEREVAN, April 19. /ARKA/. Zharangutiun (Heritage) party promises
in its election program to attract investments totaling $1.5 billion
to Armenia, enlarge the share of taxes in GDP and rid the country of
monopolies if comes to power, Hovsep Khurshudyan, the party spokesman,
said on Thursday.

He said that the party is guided by particular programs which are
able to ensure economic development to Armenia.

“In the recent five years, only Zharangutiun faction remained stuck
to its programs and voted in the parliament reasoning from these
programs,” he said. “Now we present the New Armenia program, which
implies composition of a new government,” he said.

Khurshudyan said that all segments of the economy, especially
profitable, are divided among tycoons, and small and mid-scale
entrepreneurs are left with no option but to be satisfied with the
remains left to them, such as taxi services and bakery business.

“The core areas which influence price-making process are monopolized,”
he said.

The party spokesman said that Zharangutiun also proposes to cut taxes,
increase pensions and wages and fill the government budget by lessening
shady dealings.

The party believes that it will be able to enlarge the share of taxes
in GDP already in the first year alone from the current 17% to 23%
by tightening grip on shadow economy and extracting money from it.

Zharangutiun will also implement a program aimed at repatriation
of Armenian citizens to their homeland with their own capital and
investments.

“We think Armenia, with its 2.5 million living in a region full of
challenges, can’t have any future,” Khurshudyan said. “We should
enlarge our population as soon as possible, and it is possible to do
it only by returning Armenians to their homeland. As many as 100,000
Armenians should be back – many of them has accomplished a great
deal abroad.”

He said that these people will prefer to live in a free and democratic
Armenia rather than to be viewed as second- or third-class persons
in foreign countries.

Zharangutiun (Heritage), a national liberal party, was founded in 2002
by Raffi Hovhannisian, a former foreign minister. Zharangutiun known
as a western-leaning party has some 5,000 members and the smallest
faction is the National Assembly – six MPs. The party leader has
close ties with Armenian community in the United States.

In the upcoming parliamentary elections, Zharangutiun will have eight
rivals – seven parties and one party bloc.

We Shall Turn To Represent The Real Life Of Artsakh

WE SHALL TURN TO REPRESENT THE REAL LIFE OF ARTSAKH

Karabakh-open
Tuesday, 17 April 2012 14:57

Dear reader

Karabakh-open.info officially announces launching its activity as
an electronic journal. The project is initiated by the “Movement-88”
political party functioning in Karabakh, yet this does not mean that
the website appears to be the official journal of the party. By this
journal the party aims to present the multicolored reality of Artsakh
and to focus on the areas of discussion the different layers of the
society are curious and worried about.

Our webpage is going to be distinguished by making a greater emphasis
on the citizens’ viewpoints. We will review all the events and
social phenomena through the prism of the citizens’ perception and
as a result not only the facts but also the attitude of an average
citizen towards the reality will be presented to the reader.

The vacuum state of the information field of Artsakh as well as the
lack of any information on the NKR has repeatedly become the subject
matter of discussions. Our colleagues from the Armenian Diaspora
who were among the participants of the All-Armenian Conference of
Journalists held in 2011 admitted this fact as well.

In the world information sphere Artsakh is associated with the concepts
of war and antagonism whereas Artsakh is continually developing with
all its miseries and accomplishments. And we intend to show this
reality of Artsakh.

The website will enable to make use of Armenian, Russian and English
variants of the information presented. Photos and videos will be
uploaded as well. We sincerely hope to meet the expectations of
our readers.

Giragosian To Diaspora – Stop Regarding Armenia As Disneyland

GIRAGOSIAN TO DIASPORA – STOP REGARDING ARMENIA AS DISNEYLAND

Richard Giragosian, who heads the Regional Studies Center think-tank
in Yerevan, declared it was high time for the diaspora to stop viewing
Armenia as a “Disneyland”

Giragosian, a transplanted diaspora Armenian, stated Armenia must
become the center of the universe for Armenian worldwide, where
issues of human rights, democracy and economic development assume
equal importance with genocide recognition.

The analyst said that the Armenian government should be doing much more
to facilitate conditions leading to more from the diapora moving to
Armenia. Giragosian has been living in Armenia for the past seven
years.

He stated that both for those living in Armenia and diaspora-Armenians,
there are two basic challenges – a lack of possibilities and the
oligarch dominated economy.

Free and fair elections, Giragosian argued, would not only create an
opportunity to improve the life of Armenian citizens, but would also
improve the lot of diasporans residing in Armenia.

The analyst pointed to the near total absence of any talk regarding
Armenia-Turkish relations and the Genocide issue in the parliamentary
campaign as indicative of the very low level of political discourse
in Armenia.

He labelled this politics of individuals and not serious debate.

Issues of prime importance – Armenian-Turkish relations,
Armenian-Russian relations, Artsakh – are infrequently discussed. He
said there must be more debate on these issues so that the public
gets a better grasp of the positions of the various parties.

Giragosian argued that the Armenian Genocide shouldn’t be the only
issue on the diaspora’s agenda, arguing that battling the oligarchy
in Armenia is also very vital given that it poses a huge threat to
the state itself.

The oligarchs, said Giragosian, thwart both democratic and economic
development. He found it appalling that many are to be re-elected to
the country’s parliament.
