Rumors of Kocharian’s return false, unless confirmed by fall – expert

May 26, 2012 – 16:16 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – Rumors have recently circulated about the comeback
of the second President of Armenia Robert Kocharian, head of the
Institute of East European and CIS said.

As Alexander Tsinker told PanARMENIAN.Net the rumors are mainly
conditioned by Kocharian’s trips to Moscow and meetings with Russian
President Vladimir Putin. This serves basis for Armenian media to
center on Kocharian’s possible return, drawing an analogy with Putin.

`I see no similarity, because Putin never forsook politics, for four
years he occupied prime ministerial post and, in fact, ruled the
country. Kocharian will be forced to start from zero point if he
returns to politics. This will take time, as well as financial and
political support. I am sure Prosperous Armenia will be the party to
endorse him. If the rumors on his comeback are not confirmed by fall,
they will never be confirmed,’ Mr.Tsinker said.

Fugitive Studios Entertainment Armenia, in response to the recent
announcement by Armenian President Mr. Serzh Sargsyan about the
preliminary agreement with Mel Gibson regarding its East of Byzantium
project, confirms that Hollywood visual effects artist and filmmaker
Roger Kupelian has indeed met with both Mr. Gibson and Mr. Sargsyan’s
contacts in this regard.

These meetings commenced between Roger Kupelian and a well-known
film producer in Moscow, in May 2011, and continued into April
of this year. Without revealing confidential details, Fugitive
Studios Entertainment wishes to stress that Kupelian’s project,
East of Byzantium, starts with the saga of Armenia’s conversion to
Christianity in 301 AD, onto the Battle of Avarayr in 451 AD and the
victories beyond. The most recent meeting between Mr. Gibson and Mr.

Kupelian was promising yet preliminary. Negotiations with prospective
producers of the project are also being pursued, with the goal of
reaching a solid conclusion before the end of this year.

East of Byzantium took shape in New Zealand in 2002 and through
various initiatives continued making the rounds in Hollywood even
while unveiling its widely disseminated teaser footage. Recently,
the first Graphic Novel inspired by East of Byzantium, War Gods, was
successfully released and is currently being translated into Spanish.

The Facebook fan page has grown over 9000 fans, and is being discovered
by audiences worldwide.

Kupelian stated: “the Armenian culture needs to embrace warrior-code
biased identity over one that focuses on its victimization, and this
project that I have personally financed over the cost of ten years
has been shaped by that ideal.”

Pas De Nouvelle Coalition En Vue En Armenie

PAS DE NOUVELLE COALITION EN VUE EN ARMENIE
Gari

[Congress refuses to recognize the Armenian genocide as requested by Amaiur]

Noticias EFE

EFE

Baku: Spanish Parliament Refuses To Recognize So-Called "Armenian Ge

SPANISH PARLIAMENT REFUSES TO RECOGNIZE SO-CALLED “ARMENIAN GENOCIDE”

APA

Azerbaijan

Baku – APA. Spanish parliament has rejected a draft proposing to
recognize the so-called “Armenian genocide”, APA reports quoting the
Turkish news agency Anadolu.

The proposal was submitted by the Republican Left of Catalonia party
(ERC), with only the Basque Nationalistic Movement voting for the
draft. Other parties at the Spanish parliament, including the ruling
Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party and opposition Peoples’ Party,
voted against the proposal.

Peoples’ Party representative Jose Maria Beneyto and socialist
Meritxell Batet said that such step would have negative impact on
Turkey-Armenia relations. Representative of Union Progreso y Democracia
Irene Lozano strongly opposed those who submitted the draft. “You have
to bewail the death of terror victims in Basque province and condemn
this terror instead of shedding crocodile tears over Armenians”.

Hallucination Fails The Matrimonial Test

HALLUCINATION FAILS THE MATRIMONIAL TEST
MANDY SAYER

The Australian

May 24 2012

“IF you give me five minutes,” he said the other night, “I’d like to
share with you one of my most secret pleasures.”

As some of you may or may not know, my husband and I don’t live
together but about 100m apart, in separate apartments. Our 10-year
wedding anniversary is coming up and, as he so truthfully explained,
he wanted to share with me what he watches when he’s around at his
place on his own.

I looked at him quizzically, wondering what I was in for. We were about
to watch Woody Allen’s Bullets Over Broadway, but he had another DVD
in his hand, with a red and black cover.

I already knew he had an extensive library of erotica and pornography,
with a particular concentration on 1980s porn star Christy Canyon,
who could discuss existential theory while also making a man happy.

“Only the first five minutes,” he said. “I promise.”

Curious to know what privately fascinated him, I nodded and said OK.

At first, all I saw was a grey background with foreign language
titles – all exquisite curves, arcs and dots, not quite Arabic,
not quite Russian.

“Armenian,” explained Louis, staring at the screen. I nodded again,
remembering that Christy was Armenian-Italian. Maybe this was a home
movie, an amateur garage video from before she went to Hollywood.

Three-and-a-half minutes into the DVD, titles were still appearing. I
felt a little sorry for Louis. With only 90 seconds left of the
promised five-minute limit, I hadn’t seen one frame of the story.

As it turned out, there wasn’t any story, or anything even resembling
a theme. And no, the lack of narrative had nothing to do with the
pornographic penchant for sublimating plot in favour of scoring the
money shot.

Much to my surprise, the movie turned out to be not so much film as
hallucination, starting with an image of pomegranate juice staining
a white tablecloth, followed by three sardines dying on a chopping
board, then walls of wet books falling to the floor, and a Byzantine
woman wielding a puppet. “It’s by the great Russian film director,
Paradjanov,” Louis said. “An interpretation of the life of the
18th-century Armenian national poet, Sayat Nova.”

After 20 minutes of beached fish, dancing dolls and no plot, I asked
him to stop.

Sometimes, in a marriage, it’s better to retain a little mystery.

It’s The Eurovision Song Contest, Not The European Song Contest

IT’S THE EUROVISION SONG CONTEST, NOT THE EUROPEAN SONG CONTEST
By Caroline Westbrook

Metro

May 24 2012
UK

Metro.co.uk freelance contributor

It’s the age-old question that Terry Wogan used to ask every single
year during his Eurovision Song Contest commentary – what were Israel
doing taking part, exactly, when they’re not actually in Europe?

Sir Terry may long since have departed the Eurovision arena, but even
now, with the Song Contest just days away, people continue to ask –
how indeed can Israel take part, not to mention the likes of Georgia,
Armenia, and even our host nation Azerbaijan? Should they not be part
of some Asiavision spectacle instead?

Actually this is not strictly true – for they are as eligible to take
part as everybody else in spite of their geographical status. And
given that however many times a fan of the contest is asked this
question, somehow the answer never seems to sink in and is met with
a blank stare and a cry of ‘But they’re not in Europe….!’ perhaps
the time has come to explain this once and for all.

It’s membership of [the European Broadcasting Union] which allows you
to take part in Eurovision, rather than where your borders happen to be

The fact is, Israel, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia (when they take
part, for they are notable by their absence this year) are not in
Europe. They are, however, all members of an organisation called the
European Broadcasting Union, which has members all across the continent
as well as in several North African and Middle Eastern states. And
it’s membership of this which allows you to take part in Eurovision,
rather than where your borders happen to be.

And they’re not the only ones who belong to the EBU outside of Europe
and could therefore shimmy a sequin or two on the Eurovision stage.

Algeria, Lebanon, Tunisia, Jordan, Morocco and Egypt are all EBU
members and hence, eligible, along with Vatican City, who remain one
of the sole EBU members actually in Europe never to have taken part
(and who wouldn’t want to see some papal chanting in Eurovision?).

However the other nations have by and large all stayed steadfastly away
from Eurovision – mainly because of the presence of Israel, the nation
who started all this ‘are they in Europe?’ debate in the first place.

Of those mentioned, Lebanon did dabble in Eurovision waters in 2005
and had even selected a song for that year’s contest in Kiev – only
to pull out at the last minute when it became apparent that, under
contest rules, they would have to broadcast the Israeli entry. Jordan,
who have never taken part, famously pulled transmission of the contest
in 1978 when it became apparent that Israel’s winning ‘classic’
A Ba Ni Bi was going to win (reports that they cut to a static shot
of daffodils instead remain unfounded).

Morocco, meanwhile, did actually take part in the contest in 1980
when Israel pulled out, although their entry – Bitaqat Hob by Samira
Bensaid – scored just seven points, making them potentially the least
successful country in Eurovision history.

One notable exception to this rule however is Qatar, who have applied
for EBU membership and indicated that if they were to join they would
be keen to hear the merry cry of ‘douze points’ – and would have no
qualms about broadcasting the Israeli entry. All of which could create
even further scratching of heads for those still convinced that it
is in fact the European Song Contest, not the Eurovision Song Contest.

So here ends your Eurovision geography lesson. And you thought it
was just the voting that could be deemed political…
