pertes humaines terrifiantes grandira. ”

L’Azerbaïdjan tient beaucoup a l’aide

Schiff.

BAKU: Azerbaijani President: "The Settlement Of Nagorno Karabakh Con

AZERBAIJANI PRESIDENT: “THE SETTLEMENT OF NAGORNO KARABAKH CONFLICT REMAINS A PRIORITY FOR US”

APA
Oct 18 2012
Azerbaijan

Baku – APA. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev made an official
statement after the meeting with chairman of the Tripartite Presidency
of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegoviæ, APA reports.

President mentioned that Bakir Izetbegoviæ’s arrival in Azerbaijan
is the first highest-level visit in the history of mutual relations
between the states: “Our relations has great potential and prosperous
future. I hope that the visit will become an important stage in the
development of bilateral relations”.

The Head of State noted the extension of the political dialogue
and underlined that they discussed with Bakir Izetbegoviæ further
prospects of economic cooperation between the states: “Today we have
also discussed the regional situation. Of course, the settlement of
Nagorno Karabakh conflict remains a priority for us. Our country has
been suffering from the Armenian invasion for a long time.

International organizations, including the UN Security Council and
General Assembly have adopted a number of resolutions on immediate
and unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the
occupied territory of Azerbaijan. Unfortunately, these resolutions
haven’t been implemented yet. The settlement of the conflict in the
short run within the framework of the international law and territory
integrity will be favorable for all states. Our countries have much in
common. We have faced aggression, occupation and difficult situation.

This also units us. Both pleasant memories of the past and the events
that happened 20 years unite us. That’s why we understand each other
very well”.

Ankara: Content Of Equipment On Board Syrian Plane Clear

CONTENT OF EQUIPMENT ON BOARD SYRIAN PLANE CLEAR

Anadolu Agency (AA)
October 17, 2012 Wednesday
Turkey

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said content of equipment
on board Syrian plane was clear.

“Turkey does what is required in the international law and national
regulations fastidiously in every step that it takes,” Davutoglu said
at a press conference with Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers
and Foreign Minister of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Zlatko Lagumdzija in
Ankara.

“Our attitude regarding a Syria-bound Armenian plane was clear, as you
saw. We never prevented any plane carrying humanitarian aid,” he said.

Regarding statements by former Bosnian Serbian leader Radovan Karadzic
to the International Criminal Tribunal in his defense that he did not
commit genocide in Srebrenica but protected the people, Davutoglu
said that those statements were an indignity against the memory of
those who lost their lives in Sarajevo.

Davutoglu said that nothing could legitimize the genocide that was
committed in Srebrenica.

In regard to relations between Turkey and Bosnia-Herzegovina, Davutoglu
said that it was the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between
the two countries.

Davutoglu said Turkey attached a great importance to stability,
tranquility and prosperity of Bosnia-Herzegovina, stating that Turkey
was ready to make every kind of contribution to its stability and
prosperity.

Turkey also attached a great importance to economic development of
Bosnia-Herzegovina, he said.

Davutoglu said they called on Turkish companies to invest in this
country, and they were working to boost trade volume to 1 billion U.S.

dollars.

Turkey has been exerting great efforts regarding Bosnia-Herzegovina’s
NATO and EU memberships, he said.

RAFFI’S BACK AND THERE’S GONNA BE BELUGAS; LEGENDARY CHILDREN’S PERFORMER RETURNS TO THE STAGE AFTER 10 YEARS

IN CONCERT

Raffi
Where: McPherson Playhouse
When: Two shows: Saturday at 1 p.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m.

Tickets: call 250-386-6121
Thrilling news for Baby Beluga devotees. After a decade-long hiatus,
Raffi is back on the concert stage.

And the comeback’s launch is in Victoria.

His string of Western Canadian dates will be launched with back-to-back
shows at McPherson Playhouse on Saturday. The 64-year-old children’s
entertainer says this marks his official return to the family-concert
circuit

“It’s been 10 years,” said Raffi. “The last family concert in a
theatre I did was January 2002 in Seattle. … Now it’s a return to
the feeling of enjoying the buzz of a family concert.”

If Raffi Cavoukian was a rocker, the comeback would be akin to the
return of Bruce Springsteen or even the Beatles. When it comes to
children’s entertainment, Raffi is a superstar.

The Washington Post deemed him “the most popular children’s singer
in the English-speaking world.”

He’s sold more than 15 million albums and DVDs in North America. His
megahits include Bananaphone, Down by the Bay and Baby Beluga (that
latter is arguably the kiddie equivalent of Stairway to Heaven).

Raffi kept himself busy this past decade launching his Child Honouring
Centre project, headquartered on Saltspring Island. The centre is a
charitable, non-profit organization advancing his notion of “child
honouring,” that is, nurturing children and treating them with respect.

This initiative included a book of essays, Child Honouring: How to
Turn This World Around, co-edited by Raffi.

The Child Honouring Centre has offered educational art programs for
children, and hosted such speakers as author Annie Leonard (The Story
of Stuff) and physicist Fritjof Capra.

Aside from the odd casual appearance, Raffi took a complete vacation
from the concert stage. But he didn’t completely shy from the
limelight.

This summer, he was quoted in news reports about the death of Kavna,
the beluga at the Vancouver Aquarium. Kavna was the whale that inspired
Raffi’s Baby Beluga song in the late ’70s.

“I wrote an impassioned blog about it,” Raffi said. “I said it felt
like losing a member of my extended family.”

There were other Raffi media sightings. After federal NDP leader Jack
Layton died last year, the entertainer wrote a song using Layton’s
final inspirational letter as lyrics. The composition received a
positive endorsement from Olivia Chow, his widow.

Raffi was also publicly critical of sports commentator Don Cherry,
saying he acts like a “bully” and sets a poor example for children.

He even called for hockey fans to mute their TVs during Cherry’s
Coach’s Corner segment.

“His shtick has outgrown its usefulness,” Raffi told the Times
Colonist. “And it didn’t set a good example to the kids about the
spirit of the game.”

Born in Cairo, Egypt, to Armenian parents, Raffi started as a
folksinger in Toronto and Montreal before turning to children’s
entertainment.

His career was launched in 1976 with the album Singable Songs for the
Very Young, one of the most popular children’s recordings of all time.

Back then, children’s records were typically cut-rate offerings
relegated to bargain bins. Raffi says he deliberately charged the same
list price for Singable Songs for the Very Young as “adult” recordings.

“People responded to it,” he said. “They liked the idea of quality
music for children.”

Throughout his career, Raffi refused to compromise his ideals for
commercial gain. He was once approached by the producers of the
animated film Shrek.

They proposed making a movie based on the Baby Beluga song. Raffi
turned them down, partly because merchandising spinoffs were part of
the deal.

“We said, ‘We won’t stand for that, it’s not in the children’s best
interest.’ Well, they’d never heard anybody say those things before,”
he said.

Raffi believes there are as many as 10 million people in North America
between the ages of 18 and 40 who grew up on his music. He calls them
“beluga grads.”

“My favourite line they say is, ‘You were the soundtrack of my
childhood.’ It’s a very wonderful thing to hear. Holy smokes.”

Iran blames Beirut deadly bomb attack on Israel

Iran blames Beirut deadly bomb attack on Israel

October 20, 2012 – 14:44 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – Iran on Saturday, Oct 20, condemned a car bomb
attack in Beirut and suggested that Israel was to blame.

A senior Israeli official dismissed the suggestion as “beyond
pathetic”, Reuters reported.

“This action was taken with the aim of sowing dissension among
different currents and segments of the Lebanese people and was
conducted by an element who has never had in mind the interests of the
Lebanese people and government and who only strives for its own impure
interests and goals,” said a statement posted on the Iranian Foreign
Ministry’s website.

“Without a doubt the main enemy of the people of Lebanon and the
region is the Zionist regime (Israel), which benefits from insecurity
and instability in the region,” ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast
said, according to the statement.

It offered no evidence for the suggestion of Israeli involvement.

Asked about Mehmanparast’s remarks, Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman
Yigal Palmor said: “After the Iranian regime accused Israel of even
the bad weather conditions prevailing in Iran, is there anything at
all that they would not automatically blame on Israel? This is beyond
pathetic. It’s pathological.”

Expert deems war against Iran hardly possible

Expert deems war against Iran hardly possible

October 20, 2012 – 17:15 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – The nuclear program may be considered a good ground
for the West to act against Iran, expert in Iranian studies said.

`Iran is viewed as a country rivaling Turkey in the region. Moreover,
it plays a certain role in curbing Turkey’s claims. By weakening Iran,
the West adds oil to the fire,’ Mher Baghdasaryan said, deeming a war
against Iran hardly possible.

However, he didn’t rule out the possibility of a war, noting Iran’s
advancing positions as the main problem.

Nora Armani Tells `Moving Stories’

Nora Armani Tells `Moving Stories’
by Lilly Torosyan

October 20, 2012

Nora Armani has been acting in half a dozen films for over 25 years.
In her latest endeavor, `Moving Stories,’ Armani plays one of the two
lead characters. The film was selected in the short film category of
the prestigious Cannes Film Festival (CFF): Short Film Corner (SFC)
this past May. Armani wrote, directed, and produced the film – a
triple-threat in the filmmaking world.

The film was selected in the short film category of the prestigious
Cannes Film Festival (CFF)
`My inspiration to write the movie came at the most unexpected
moment,’ she tells the Weekly. `I was having a phone conversation with
the woman we [Armani and her husband] bought our apartment from.
During the telephone conversation, she told me that she had been
cleaning the place to prepare it for us – even though we were strangers.
It got me thinking: We interact with our neighbors, but there seems to
be a non-existent relationship between a person and the former owner
of his/her home – and yet, there is this commonality that they, at one
point, inhabited the same place.’

Hence, the plot follows two women whose lives are linked together
through a very brief period of time, when one is leaving her apartment
as the other is moving into it. A bond forms, but `only like two ships
crossing in the night,’ Armani describes. The film depicts the inner
turmoil of these women in their own special ways. For one, it is a
definitive move after 40 years in New York, whereas for the other, it
is one more move along a line of many. While making the film, Armani
realized that she had moved 18 times during her adult life since
leaving Egypt.

The time frame for completing the film paralleled the length of the
film itself. Within weeks of its conception, the 18-minute film was
accepted into the CFF. Armani looks forward to the upcoming screenings
in New York and Los Angeles.

Lending a helping hand to the motherland

Born in Cairo, and educated at the Noubarian Armenian School and later
in London, Armani currently resides in New York City, after living and
working for 12 years in Paris. She prides herself as an `artist of the
world,’ as her peregrinations have taken her from Cairo to London,
Paris, Rome, Los Angeles, and Yerevan. She cites acting as her `first
love,’ sparked through plays she would put on with her cousins as a
child back in Egypt. Through the Armenian Artistic Club in Cairo, she
met her now ex-husband, award-winning actor/director Gerald Papasian,
who `cultivated a spark in [her]’ and is still one of her biggest
collaborators.

`My most significant trip to Armenia was when Gerald and I were
invited by the Soviet Armenian government in 1987 for our production
of `Sojourn at Ararat.’ I observed the beginnings of the movement of
independence, and in 1991, I witnessed the government change taking
place,’ the filmmaker says.

Since 1969, she has made 12 trips to the Caucasus, witnessing the
significant socio-political changes in Armenia. As one of her most
rewarding recent experiences, she states coaching young actors and
directors in Yerevan and Shushi last year at the National Academy of
Theatre and Cinema.

Projects: past and present

During the last nine months alone, Armani has completed six projects,
most of them as an actress in a lead role, and hopes to undertake a
few more before the close of the year.

Her 1991 award-winning play `Sojourn at Ararat’ was recently released
on audio CD, after extensive tours in major cities around the globe.
The play is based on translations of Armenian poems into English (or
into French, in French venues). She describes this project as `one of
[her] favorites because it has generated such impact on audiences in
acquainting them with Armenian literature and through it, the
genocide, in an artistically successful and uplifting way,’ she says,
and hopes for it to continue for generations to come.

The play became the central theme of the docu-dramatic feature film
`Last Station’ by prolific film director Harutyun Khachatryan,
co-starring Armen Dhigarkhanian. Shot in Paris, London, Avignon, Los
Angeles, and Yerevan 20 years ago, it relates in real time the stage
couple’s tours and arrival in newly independent Armenia in 1991.
Currently, Khachatryan is filming the documentary sequel to the film
with Nora Armani and Armen Djigarkhanian.
