The director of the Association of Jewelers and Gold Entrepreneurs of
Armenia, Director of “Yerevan Jewelry Plant” Emil Grigoryan expressed
an opinion that Armenia’s jewelry industry needs to purchase gold
futures contracts, due to the small volume of batches and the
volatility of the local market demand. Futures contracts will help
to purchase gold at a predictable price.

Note that in 2011 the production of the jewelry industry in Armenia
totaled AMD 12.38 billion, up to 13% more than in 2010. Jewelry exports
from Armenia in the same year amounted to $ 12,256,000, which is 11%
lower than in 2010. Export destinations were Russia, Turkmenistan,
Kazakhstan, USA, UAE and other countries.

70% Of Yerevan Is Endangered

70% OF YEREVAN IS ENDANGERED

Story from Lragir.am News:

13:10 07/12/2012

About 70% of Yerevan is endangered in case of a strong earthquake,
the former head of Yerevan Project Institute Gurgen Musheghyan told
Lragir.am.

According to him, the quality of building now is better compared to
the Soviet years but the density of buildings causes concerns. He
says free space is needed to enable rescue works in case of a disaster.

According to him, in Yerevan there will be no space even for ruins.

According to the architect, no one can assure that the buildings
will not collapse in the result of the earthquake. Musheghyan says
they build all over the city without leaving free space for temporary
shelters in case of a disaster. There are no green areas for the city
to breathe. In Gyumree, there was no such space either. People were
told to leave for other places and to return when the town would be
reconstructed. They left and never returned.

According to the architect, tall buildings should be of the highest
quality. He says four-storey building have collapsed recently in
Yerevan so we can imagine what can happen. Gurgen Musheghyan stresses
that professional research is necessary on this matter.

OFFICIAL BAKU PRETENDS TO FAIL TO UNDERSTAND NAGORNO-KARABAKH WILL NEVER BE PART OF AZERBAIJAN – ARMENIAN DEPUTY FM

07.12.12

In the exclusive comment given to the Armenpress News Agency, Armenian
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Shavarsh Kocharyan has referred
to the statements of Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov
in the Wall Street Journal.

-Mr. Kocharyan how would You comment on the “Wall Street Journal”
statement of Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mamedyarov that
the preconditions for the settlement of the conflict were including
Karabakh in Azerbaijan and the absence of armed forces in Karabakh?

-Mr. Mamedyarov undoubtedly presented Baku’s vision how to avoid the
implementation of genocide policy against the Armenian population
and ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh as well as how to resolute
NKR conflict.

According to Mamedyarov everything is clear and it is needed to
implement two preconditions. The first is that NKR Armed Forces suspend
their existence and the second one is that Karabakh is being included
in Azerbaijan.

The logic is clear, after some failures in military aggression
Azerbaijan had to organize some meetings of NKR and Azerbaijan
authorities in order to sign a ceasefire agreement.

Isn’t it much easier to slaughter peaceful population as it was in
Sumgait, Kirovabad, Shamkhor, Baku … It is much easier to kill
people when asleep. In that case the number of “national heroes”,
number of Ramil Safarovs, will be multiplied in Azerbaijan. Only that
time the dream of Baku will come true, to see Karabakh in the same
situation as NKR occupied territories are.

Baku pretends as if it doesn’t understand that Karabakh democratic
state which was formed in the conditions of military aggression and
blockade will never be part of Azerbaijan.

Mr. Mamedyarov presents with a position of clear and simple
decisions, moreover, trying to pass round the format of OSCE Minsk
Group Co-Chairs. Baku has such a possibility. Azerbaijan withdraws
its troops from the occupied territories of NKR, and instead of
opposing UN Charter on violation of the right to self-determination
and territorial integrity is recognizing Nagorno-Karabakh Republic
and has direct negotiations with Stepanakert on the existing issues.

We must look back in order to look confidently into the future. We had
no disaster management system in 1988, Deputy Minister of Emergency
Situations Nikolay Grigoryan told a press conference today on the
24th anniversary of the Spitak earthquake.

Our country has created a National Platforms for Disaster Risk
Reduction, which is also an important achievement, he said.

“Our aim is to have a disaster-resistant country. The most important
lesson we learnt from the Spitak earthquake was that a Ministry of
Emergency Situations was created in Armenia,” Nikolay Grigoryan said.

The Deputy Minister said the number of disasters has increased
worldwide, and even the US and Japan are unable to resist them.

“It would be incorrect to say that Armenia is fully prepared to
resist any disaster, but disaster risk reduction is a priority for
the country’s leadership,” he said.

Director of the National Platforms for Disaster Risk Reduction
NGO Movses Poghosyan noted that “today Armenia is a rescue service
exporting country.” “We must be ready for disasters today, as they
always hit from the back and always unexpectedly.”

Movses Poghosyan considers that December 7 must be a day of
accountability, when the result and achievements of activity of the
Ministry of Emergency Situations will be presented.
