YEREVAN.- Presidential candidate Andreas Ghukasyan, who has been on
hunger strike since Monday, said he feels well.

Asked about other candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan’s willingness to join him,
Ghukasyan said he is not the person demanding to stop fake elections
in Armenia.

“Hayrikyan’s joining the hunger strike will increase influence of
our motto and will raise public confidence in effectiveness of our
struggle,” he told reporters on Wednesday. Ghukasyan said he has no
intention to stop the hunger strike.

“To stop the strike means to devalue the struggle and the idea itself,”
he emphasized.

As reported earlier, presidential contenders Raffi Hovannisian-who
heads the opposition Heritage Party-and Aram Harutyunyan-who leads
the National Accord party-came to visit him on the first day of his
hunger strike, and urged him to end the hunger strike so as not to
harm his body.

The Armenian American Medical Society is gearing up to host the
eleventh quadrennial Armenian Medical World Congresses (AMWC), in Los
Angeles, California, from July 3 to 7, 2013. The conference program
promises an outstanding list of internationally recognized experts and
healthcare professionals. This Congress will highlight advances in
various fields of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, health
education, ethics, and complementary and alternative medicine, as well
as other issues of interest and concern within the allied healthcare
fields.

Building on the strong foundation set forth by Armenian Medical World
Congresses in the past and under the auspices of the Armenian Medical
International Committee (AMIC), this year’s congress will address some
of the most vital issues facing healthcare today. Keynote speakers and
panel discussants will focus on a broad range of relevant topics,
including the latest breakthroughs in regenerative medicine,
challenges facing healthcare in Armenia, technological advances that
are revolutionizing health care and the global paradox of over
consumption and under nutrition.

`It is our aim to design a high quality scientific program reflecting
state of the art clinical practice and providing a common forum for
discussion and debate in many disciplines of healthcare and science,’
said the President of the Armenian American Medical Society,
Dr. Vicken Sepilian who is also the Chairman of the organizing
committee of the congress. Set ideally in the thriving cosmopolitan
hub of Los Angeles, this year’s Congress will take place at the
exclusive Loews Hollywood Hotel, part of the legendary Hollywood &
Highland Center–a five level retail and entertainment landmark, home
to the Dolby Theater (formerly the Kodak Theater) and the Grauman’s
Chinese Theater, as well as several hundred premier retail stores and
fine restaurants.

In addition to being a dynamic forum rife with medical expertise and
exchange of knowledge, the social committee is planning a series of
spectacular events that will offer unique opportunities to socialize
and enjoy the numerous attractions of Los Angeles. A welcome
reception will take place at the historic Egyptian Theater, and the
Congress will culminate with a lavish Gala at the Dolby Theater, in
the same venue where the Oscars are held. This event will be catered
by the world famous celebrity chef, Wolfgang Puck. All social
engagements and plenary topics are centered on the theme of this
year’s Congress, `Uniting for a Healthy Future’ — which underpins
AMIC’s mission of strengthening ties among healthcare professionals in
the Diaspora, and collectively working towards the shared goal of
creating a healthy future for the communities in the Diaspora and
Armenia.

We encourage all of you to attend and look forward to welcoming you to
the 11th AMWC in Hollywood in July of 2013! For more information and

Armenia More Democratic Than Turkey, Azerbaijan – Eufoa Chief

ARMENIA MORE DEMOCRATIC THAN TURKEY, AZERBAIJAN – EUFOA CHIEF

January 23, 2013 – 16:41 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – The Secretary General of European Friends of Armenia
(EuFoA) assessed democratic situation in Armenia as much more developed
than those in Azerbaijan and Turkey.

“Nomination of presidential candidates in Azerbaijan or Turkey causes
major problems, with Armenia having no such issues,” Michael Kambeck
told PanARMENIAN.Net “Armenian opposition could have nominated a
unified candidate; however, failure to do so proves the latter’s
weakness. The absence of a unified candidate is a political issue,
rather than a democracy-related one. I believe, Armenia will see fair
and transparent polls, with assessment of observer missions unable
to affect the outcome of elections,” Kambeck said.

is designed to provide digital broadcasting, Internet access, data
transmission and governmental communications, Xinhua reported.

Ai Accuses Eynulla Fatullayev Of Participating In Propaganda Campaig

AI ACCUSES EYNULLA FATULLAYEV OF PARTICIPATING IN PROPAGANDA CAMPAIGN OF THE ALIYEV REGIME

BRUSSELS. January 22, 2013: International human rights organization
Amnesty International has announced the termination of its
collaboration with a former prisoner of conscience, the head of the
Public Association for Human Rights in Azerbaijan, Eynulla Fatullayev.

Amnesty International believes that Fatullayev, and in particular, his
site Haqqin.az, is used by the Government of Azerbaijan to discredit
European criticism of human rights violations in Azerbaijan.

Fatullayev creates a misconception of human rights violations, arguing
that the phenomenon, which is common in Azerbaijan, is just as common
in Germany.

In this regard, he uses criticism of Amnesty International about the
situation of the rights and freedoms in this European country.

On Monday, January 21 Fatullayev presented in the European Press Club
in Brussels, a report of the Public Association for Human Rights,
“Decline of the West, or the crisis of European values.”

Earlier, according to Amnesty International, he requested the German
office of the Speaker of the organization to speak at a presentation
on the topic of human rights violations in Germany. He also claimed
that the project is funded by the Black Sea Fund (BST) of the German
Marshall Fund. But the Marshall Fund denied the report by Fatullayev.

The BST Consultant on Azerbaijan, Mehriban Rahimli, stated that
“the mention of BST with this project is not appropriate. BST has
not funded or supported this study and its presentation.”

In turn, Fatullayev denounced statements by Amnesty International,
accusing the organization of selectivity in human rights and freedoms.

“It turns out that there are selected untouchable states, which
cannot be criticized. Such statements undermine the very philosophy
of European values. With what moral authority then, can these
organizations dictate anything to anyone else?” he wrote on his
website haqqin.az.

He also laid out information about the presentations, where apart from
Fatullayev there were: the leader of the Frankfurt movement “Occupy
Frankfurt” Pilts Thomas, president of the Turkish community in Germany,
known public figure, Kenan Kolat, director of the Eurasian Program
of the International Institute of Media, Stephen Ellis, and others.

The speakers strongly criticized the German government and urged the
public not to remain indifferent to the facts of tyranny and violence
against people who disagree with the policies of Berlin.

Their concern was reinforced by showing a 38-minute film “The Decline
of Europe”, prepared by Internews Azerbaijan.

Note that the report “Decline of the West, or the crisis of European
values,” claims to be an analytical study on democracy, human rights,
and politics of multiculturalism in Germany and in Europe in general,
and was published on the web-site

The international research team of the project tries to answer the
following questions: Why does multiculturalism fail in such a tolerant
country as Germany? Why are the issues of human rights and freedoms
of speech and assembly relevant in this rich country, as well as in
countries with decorative democracy? Why are there frequent cases
of social unrest and protests, corruption scandals? Why does German
society often support revisionist and neo-Nazi sentiments?

The international group started comparative analysis and identification
of the systemic crisis of liberal values within Germany. This is
due to a stable democratic image, high and significant political
and economic status, as well as the specific role of this country in
world and European processes. At the same time, the emerging trend
of the crisis of ideas of multiculturalism, tolerance and liberal
values has been experienced in Germany in recent years.

Generalizing many of the facts, the Association for Human Rights
provided the following problems in this country: 1) The crisis of
multiculturalism and lower ethnic and religious tolerance, the costs
of immigration policy; 2) Problems in the prison, law enforcement and
judicial systems in Germany, flaws in legal practice; 3) Violations
of human rights, freedom of speech and assembly, excessive use of
force to disperse protests (Turan).

Little Serine Asked Santa Claus For A Bathroom

LITTLE SERINE ASKED SANTA CLAUS FOR A BATHROOM

Wednesday, 23 January 2013 14:14

Little Serine’s Christmas dream differs from the dreams of her
contemporaries, she asked Santa Claus for a bathroom.

Serine’s family, her grandmother Valya Avanesyan together with her
daughter-in-law and 4 grandchildren, lives in Qarin Tak village,
the region of Shoushi.

The 65-year-old grandmother has to earn the family’s living. As she
says they were one of the prosperous families of the village, but the
Artsakh movement left its mark on their family, Valya’s husband and
their three sons-in-law died in the war, their son died 7 years ago.

Mrs. Valya monthly gets a pension of 22 thousand drams, besides, the
children’s allowance forms 84 thousand drams. The family of 6 members
lives on the mentioned income and the products of their vegetable
garden. They mainly grow potato and beans in their vegetable garden,
the other products they buy from the shops. “We often borrow the goods
but then as we get the children’s allowance, we pay the debts. It is
very important that my grandchildren eat well and never be hungry.

That will be all right if they dress a bit poorly. Though the
children are ashamed but they are never hungry,” the grandmother
states with regret.

Besides the vegetable garden Mrs. Valya has a cow and a pig but at
the New Year Eve, as the children’s mothers says, they had to give
the pig to slaughter so that the children wouldn’t be oppressed.

Together with their mother and grandmother the children have to go
to a relative’s place to take a shower as they have no bathroom.

The Avanesyans applied to the regional administration several times
for their help to repair the house. They were provided tin-plate and
4 sacks of cement.

“If it had not been for the war we would live a prosperous life. Now
I want nothing, may we live in peace and may my children be healthy,”
says Mrs. Valya whose granddaughter continues to wait for her present
from Santa Claus saying, “I want a bathroom.”

Erdogan May Start Talks With Pkk Founder For Kurds’ Support – Expert

ERDOGAN MAY START TALKS WITH PKK FOUNDER FOR KURDS’ SUPPORT – EXPERT

January 23, 2013 – 17:46 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – With local government elections due n 2013 in
Turkey, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will do his best to gain
a victory for his party on the threshold of 2014 presidential vote,
a Turkologist believes.

As Artak Shakaryan told a January 23 news conference, Erdogan may start
talks with Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) founder Abdullah Ocalan to
secure Kurish votes, with the step to escalate anti-Armenian moods
in the country.

“Turkish nationalism has 2 main directions, anti-Armenian and
anti-Kurdish. With Kurds to support Erdogan, Armenians will remain the
only target of Turkish nationalists. In such a situation, Armenian
community, especially Istanbul-based Armenians, can be regarded as
hostages,” the expert concluded.
