ARF-D Mountainous Karabakh And SILBA Chairman Hold Meeting

February 21, 2013

SILBA Chairman Jens-Kristian Lütken (back left), ARF-D members Lernik
Hovhannisyan (middle) and Armen Sargsyan (front right).
On February 21, ARF-D Mountainous Karabakh (Artsakh) Central Committee
Secretary Lernik Hovhannisyan and Head of the MK ARF-D Parliamentary
Faction, Armen Sargsyan held a meeting with Support Initiative for
Liberty and Democracy (SILBA) Chairman and counsel to the Parliament
of the Kingdom of Denmark, Jens-Kristian Lütken, at the premises of
ARF-D in MK.

SILBA has been undertaking observatory missions in Ukraine, Bellarus,
European states and for a year now in Armenia and Azerbaidjan.

Jens-Kristian Lütken had also meetings with representatives from
political organizations of Mountainous Karabakh.

During the meeting with the ARF-D delegation the interlocutors
evaluated the foreign policy of Mountainous Karabakh, political issues
and matters in connection to the conflict between Karabakh and
Azerbaidjan.

ARF-D Mountainous Karabakh Central Committee Secretary, Lernik
Hovhannisyan noted that democracy is much more sustained and developed
in Karabakh rather than in neighboring Azerbaidjan.

The Head of the Mountainous Karabakh ARF-D Parliamentary Faction,
Armen Sargsyan presented the background of the liberation movement of
Artsakh pointing out how that movement prevented the course of a new
Genocide initiated by Azerbaidjan. Armen Sargsyan highlighted the
necessity of the international recognition of the Mountainous Karabakh
Republic and gave the example of how good and strong athletes from MK
cannot compete in international sport meetings because MK is not
recognized.

Sargsyan added that from the beginning of the 20th century Mountainous
Karabakh has been a mere piece of land for Azerbaidjan while for
Armenians it has been their homeland.

Lütken agreed that human rights protection must be in the center of
the Mountainous Karabakh conflict resolution.

TV broadcasting hour is necessary to make contemporary Armenian lite

TV broadcasting hour is necessary to make contemporary Armenian
literature popular: Levon Ananyan

13:32, 2 March, 2013

YEREVAN, MARCH 2, ARMENPRESS: Contemporary Armenian literature is
presentable and competitive. The head of Writer’s Union of Armenia
Levon Ananyan expressed this viewpoint during the press conference,
which was held on March 2. To his opinion “the ice of reading crisis
has started to crack,” and measures must be taken to make this
achievement to become an ordinary phenomenon.

As “Armenpress” reports among other things Levon Ananyan stressed.
“It’s also of vital importance to have a TV TV broadcasting hour to
make literature popular as it will help the new generation to return
to literature.” Notwithstanding certain steps have been taken to make
Armenian contemporary writers, literature and reading popular, a
number of issues still remain on the agenda. “The writera,
intellectuals are among the most vulnerable classes today; the hardest
issue is to find honorarium. This regards not only to the authors but
also to literary press,” he said.

They convinced poor Serj Tankian that `they are slaughtering us here

They convinced poor Serj Tankian that `they are slaughtering us here’
– Yerevan State Institute of Theater and Cinema rector

March 02, 2013 | 13:03

YEREVAN. – What I see now was predictable prior to Armenia’s
presidential election on February 18, Yerevan State Institute of
Theater and Cinema (YSITC) Rector Armen Mazmanyan stated during a
press conference on Saturday.

He noted that this is conditioned on the fact that two candidates
appeared prior to the vote and stated that the election will be
rigged, and thus a backdrop was set so that there will be something to
play with afterwards.

In Mazmanyan’s words, there also is an apparent attempt at
depreciating the phenomenon of elections in the country.

`It became clear that there is no difference between the electing the
president and electing a town hall chief [in the country],’ the YSITC
rector said.

Mazmanyan also noted that there were numerous opposition
representatives in the electoral commissions, expressed bewilderment
that the opposition speaks about election fraud only now, and asked,
if this was the case, why the opposition representatives signed under
the protocols of these commissions.

In his words, the opposition was unable to unite, based on their own
ambitions they did not agree on a single oppositional candidate, and
thus they remained decoupled, snatched votes from one another, and a
depression started among the people, whereas serving President Serzh
Sargsyan objectively had the votes he needed.

`They convinced that poor Serj Tankian [the world-renowned Armenian
musician and lead vocalist of the acclaimed rock band, System of a
Down], from far away, that, `Pick up your sword, [and] come; they are
slaughtering us here!’ Do you consider this to be a noble political
technology?’ Mazmanyan asked?

He also noted that the very same oppositional forces in Armenia wanted
neither a fair election nor for opposition Heritage Party Chairman
Raffi Hovannisian – who is declared runner-up to the winner, incumbent
President Serzh Sargsyan, as a result of the presidential election on
February 18, but who claims to be the real winner in the vote – to be
elected. And if they truly wanted this, they should have joined
Hovannisian before the vote, and not now.

Armen Mazmanyan stressed that if the opposition wants a change in
power, it should commence this from the lower echelons: prefectures,
city councils, etc.
