Representative of Heritage party Chairman Raffi Hovannisian – Zaruhi
Postanjyan, Heritage party Spokesman Hovsep Khurshudyan and lawyer
Karen Mejlumyan – are at Armenia’s Constitutional Court (CC) now.

Earlier Mr Hovannisian announced his intention to apply to the CC and
demand ratification of the true election results, invalidation of the
false figures submitted to Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission
(CEC).

A group of people are holding a protest in front of the CC, crying out
`Free and independent Armenia.’

Law-enforcers do not allow them to cross Baghramyan Avenue toward the
CC building.

The protesters are complaining law-enforcers are violating their right
to free movement. `We are not going into the building. We just want to
stand near the building,’ one of the activists says.

Mines in Armenia owned by developed countries

A group of Armenian citizens today gathered in front of the US Embassy
in Armenia, voicing their disagreement with U.S. President’s
recognition of Serzh Sargsyan’s victory in the February 18
presidential election.

They called on the U.S. to be committed to democratic values and not
to congratulate `the president elected in fake elections.’

“No one has the right to recognize illegitimate authorities without
receiving the consent of people,” said Ani Kaghinyan, a participant of
the protest action.

The group has visited almost all embassies in Yerevan but so far no
one has responded to their complaint.
“They do not answer our telephone calls either. This makes us believe
that foreign embassies do not respect citizens of Armenia,” said Ani
Kaghinyan.

For her part Ruzanna Grigoryan added that the countries that recognize
Sargsyan’s victory have their interests in Armenia.

“Most of mines in Armenia are owned by developed countries. We need to
show these states that in Armenia the power belongs to people.”

Tsovinar Nazaryan, another participant of the protest action, said
that with their recognition developed countries hinder establishment
of civil society in Armenia.

One of the participants of the action, Arthur Gevorgyan, handed a
letter to the Head of the Public Affairs Office of the U.S. Embassy in
Armenia. James Land.

Armenia Is Producer and Exporter of Raw Materials

Armenia Is Producer and Exporter of Raw Materials

Story from Lragir.am News:

The strategy of an export-based industry was just a declaration, the
economist Ashot Yeghiazaryan says.

In answer to the question of Lragir.am what results should be expected
from the strategy adopted by the government in 2011, Ashot
Yeghiazaryan said, `It is commendable, indeed, when an export-oriented
industrial policy is implemented. Several countries have taken this
way. However, it has a disadvantage. There may be a wish, there is
understanding that these spheres must be developed but how? I do not
think that there is a toolkit. I do not think everything is fine with
the concept.’

Note that this strategy covers 11 branches: brandy, diamonds, jewelry,
watches, textile, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, food processing,
wine, bottled mineral water, juice, precise engineering. The
government envisages developing these branches by 2020 to boost
exports considerably.

Ashot Yeghiazaryan notes that the government has chosen the branches
which were developed considerably over the past 20 years. However,
according to him, the government lacks resources for the
implementation of this strategy. `Declaring a principle is very good
but is it possible to implement it and what is being done for its
implementation? This is not visible,’ he says. `Growth is reported in
industry but in which branch? Mining? We don’t have another resource
of growth,’ he says.

According to the economist, a lot of mines are exploited in Armenia,
which means that Armenia has a weak economy. Armenia is a producer and
exporter of raw materials, he says.
