Dilijan School And Fear Of The World

DILIJAN SCHOOL AND FEAR OF THE WORLD

Naira Hayrumyan
Society – Wednesday, 12 June 2013, 11:27

The parliamentary opposition proposed yesterday to postpone discussion
of the draft law on tax and customs allowances to Dilijan International
School. Members of ARF Dashnaktsutyun and Armenian National Congress
demanded a justification. Representatives of the ruling party argued
that the project is highly important for Armenia which will bring
a lot of investments, create new jobs. Besides, it is one of the
few non-profit and international projects. The opening of Dilijan
International School in Armenia meets obstacles. In the beginning
when Ruben Vardanyan introduced the project, a wave of protest rose
against foreign-language education. Ruben Vardanyan was even about to
give up the initiative but later it was said to be an international,
not a school with teaching in a foreign language.

Doubts of the oppositional are not related to foreign languages some
other circumstances which are not voiced. Probably, their doubts
are part of the banal oppositional skepticism that the government is
unable to propose anything good and since they lobby this project,
something must be wrong with it. There is no established attitude
to non-profit and charitable projects in Armenia. Charity used to
be treated as humiliating alms but in fact it is a manifestation of
rational and humane approach to the world. And the best charity is
to invest in human development programs. Besides, over the last few
months we can see tendencies to break through the siege of mentality
which is caused by self-restraint, not blockade. The open sky policy,
intentions of American energy companies to enter the Armenian market,
Iranian proposals, disappearance of fear from the Russian “stick”
can help defeat this mentality. Dilijan International School may
be helpful. It does not suggest a sale of national wealth, and
the country’ entry into a larger international domain may help us
enlarge our outlook. Armenians are called “citizens of the world”
because they are everywhere. But they feel to be outsiders all over
the world because they tend to narrow their own psychological areal
by narrow frames of besieged Armenia. The British conquered the whole
world because they were sure it belonged to them and they lost none
of their foggy islands.

Soccer: Four-Goal Armenia Stun Denmark

FOUR-GOAL ARMENIA STUN DENMARK

PUBLISHED: TUESDAY, 11. JUNE, 2013 IN CATEGORY GENERAL

Armenia equalled the biggest win in the country’s history as they
claimed a resounding 4-0 victory against Denmark to deal a huge blow
to the hosts’ hopes of qualifying for the World Cup.

Armenia beat Slovakia 4-0 away from home in a Euro 2012 qualifier and
they replicated that scoreline, just days after a home defeat by Malta.

Yura Movsisyan scored twice – the first after just 24 seconds –
with Aras Ozbiliz and Henrikh Mkhitaryan also on target as Armenia
joined Denmark on six points in Group B, and ahead of the Danes on
goal difference.

The pair are now four points adrift of second-placed Bulgaria and
three behind the Czech Republic.

Vardan Minasyan’s side made the ideal start when Mkhitaryan’s cross
from the right found Movsisyan and the striker slotted the ball into
the bottom-right corner within 30 seconds.

Dennis Rommedahl twice shot wide as Denmark searched for an equaliser
but Armenia came close to doubling the lead in the 17th minute when
Movsisyan’s 25-yard effort was tipped round the post by Stephan
Andersen.

However, there was nothing Andersen could do two minutes later when
Ozbiliz sent a low shot into the net from 20 yards.

Simon Kjaer headed wide from close range and Michael Krohn-Delhi shot
past the post but Denmark did not force a save from Roman Berezovsky
in the first half.

Kjaer had a header comfortably saved by Berezovsky and Andreas
Cornelius sent an overhead kick over the bar as Denmark started the
second half on the attack.

It was the visitors, however, who extended their lead in the 59th
minute.

Again it was Movsisyan, this time from close range as he slotted home.

Rommedahl finally forced Berezovsky into action with the goalkeeper
parrying his shot from the left of the area but Movsisyan was a thorn
in the Dane’s side, Andersen parrying his effort from the centre of
the area.

Anders Christiansen tested Berezovsky but Armenia scored again through
Mkhitaryan as he slotted the ball home across the keeper from the
centre of the area with eight minutes left to ensure Armenia leapfrog
the beleaguered Danes in the standings.

Video: Watch Henrik Mkhitaryan’s magnificent goal from Armenia’s 4-0
victory over Denmark on Tuesday

by Joshua Peck

Liverpool transfer target Henrik Mkhitaryan scored a wonderful solo
goal in Armenia’s 4-0 victory over Denmark on Tuesday night.

The Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder ran down the right before cutting
in, beating a couple of defenders and firing past Danish goalkeeper
Stephan Andersen.

Mkhitaryan, a £22m target for the Anfield club, scored a record 25
goals in the Ukrainian Premier League last season, despite operating
as an attacking midfielder.

Even with the high price tag, Liverpool are still interested after
tracking the 24-year-old throughout last season and believe Mkhitaryan
would consider a move to Anfield despite the current lack of European
football on offer and rival interest.

Mkhitaryan has been named Armenia’s player of the year on three
occasions and last night’s stunning effort was his 11th for his
country.

The result against Denmark lifted Armenia above the Danes in their
World Cup qualifying group. Armenia now sit in fourth, eight points
behind leaders Italy. Bulgaria are second with Czech Republic third.

A review of Tuesday night’s World Cup European qualifying action.

Armenia equalled the biggest win in the country’s history as they
claimed a resounding 4-0 victory against Denmark to deal a huge blow
to the hosts’ hopes of qualifying for the World Cup.

Armenia beat Slovakia 4-0 away from home in a Euro 2012 qualifier and

goal difference.

The pair are now four points adrift of second-placed Bulgaria and
three behind the Czech Republic.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic struck twice as Sweden defeated the Faroe Islands
2-0 at Solna and moved into third place in Group C.

Ibrahimovic fired the home side ahead in the first half before he
slotted home a late penalty after he was fouled by Atli Gregersen.

Sweden had been reduced to 10 men with 10 minutes remaining when
Andreas Granqvist was sent off following a poor challenge on Frodi
Benjaminsen, leaving them to defend their slender lead a man down.

However, Paris St Germain striker Ibrahimovic calmed the home crowd’s
nerves with a coolly-taken penalty as they claimed a vital three
points and put themselves five points behind leaders Germany and on
par with Austria and the Republic of Ireland.

Dmitry Verkhovtsov’s late header earned Belarus a 1-1 draw as they
drew with Finland in their Group I qualifier in Gomel.

Verkhovtsov popped up in the 85th minute to cancel out Teemu Pukki’s
first-half strike for Finland.

The result means Belarus, who prop up the group, are now level with
Georgia on four points, albeit having played one game more, while
third-placed Finland failed to keep in touching distance of leaders
Spain and second-placed France, who they trail by four points.
