FAAE WELCOMES TURKEY’S EU MEMBERSHIP SUSPENSION

10:17, 24 June, 2013

YEREVAN, JUNE 24, ARMENPRESS. The presidency of the Forum of Armenian
Associations of Europe (FAAE) in the face of its Chairman Ashot
Grigoryan, has discussed the fact of suspension of the next stage
of talks regarding Turkey’s membership in the EU on June 20, 2013,
and appreciated it as a positive step. The Press Secretariate of
the Forum of Armenian Associations of Europe informed “Armenpress”
that in particular the statement runs as follows:

“Taking into consideration the current events, the presidency
of the Forum of Armenian Associations of Europe (FAAE) urges the
representatives of other EU member states not to find satisfaction
in the present results and follow Germany’s example in future for
the establishment of justice.

The recent developments proved that the present Turkish political
elite is not capable to lead its people towards big civilized European
Family. The usurpatory methods implemented against its own people,
the fact of brutally repressing the participants of protests, make
it evident that it’s impossible for Turkey to become a part of the
EU with its current authorities.”

AN AMERICAN WOMAN: “THE ENERGY OF THE ARMENIAN DANCES IS STRONGER THAN OTHER NATIONS'” (VIDEO)

June 24 2013

“When I came to Armenia, the first thing I did, I began to inquire as
to where one can learn folk dances”, – says the Afro-American, the
U.S. Embassy staff member in Armenia Jane Burt Lee, in an interview
with Aravot.am, who was directed to study Armenian dances to “Karin”
traditional dance school. It is still hard for Jane to dance Armenian
dances, but, as she says, she like them a lot and gets a lot of
pleasure. Jane has worked in different countries, and where she worked
she was trying to know the country’s national dances. “I like dancing
in general, there is much stronger energy in Armenian dances than other
nations’. And when dancing I really feel the energy and feel that
they are really military dances.”,-says Jane. When we were present
at one of the dance lessons, we noticed that Jane was attentively
listening to the choreographer Gagik Ginosyan, we inquired whether
she understands Armenian, it turns out that, no. To our question is
not difficult to learn dancing without understanding the language,
Jane said,- “I try to get into the music and to feel the dance with the
help of it, therefore, I try to carefully listen to the choreographer
and see what he feels, where he does what, and, accordingly, I am
trying to repeat. The choreographer not only roughly introduces, but
explains what dance or a movement means, explains the essence of the
dance. Although I do not understand the majority of what he says, but
I am trying to learn and remember some words. Yes, I need someone to
translator from the side.” One of Jane’s favorite dances is potpourri,
and although Jane ensures that she likes military dances and their
energy, the choreographer says that potpourri is considered a thwart
evil dance, the meaning of the dance is to hit the evil, to destroy. We
asked Jane to compare the Armenian dances with her country’s national
dance. “They are mainly Americanized way of ethnic dances of various
European nations in the U.S. and, of course, they are rhythmic and
lively, but they are not still military. The native Americans, the
Indian Americans have military dances, but even so their military
dances do not have such a strong energy, as the Armenian dances.”

EDWARD SNOWDEN ‘HAS NOT ENTERED RUSSIA’ – LAVROV

13:47 ~U 25.06.13

Russia says it has had no involvement in the travel plans of fugitive
US intelligence leaker Edward Snowden.

The exact whereabouts of Mr Snowden, who flew to Moscow from Hong
Kong on Sunday, are unclear, BBC reports.

But Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov insisted he had not crossed the
Russian border.

And he told a news conference that US attempts to blame Russia for
his disappearance were “groundless and unacceptable”.

“We are in no way involved with either Mr Snowden, his relations with
US justice, nor to his movements around the world,” Mr Lavrov said.

Correspondents say Mr Lavrov’s comments suggest that Mr Snowden
remained airside after landing in Moscow, and so has technically
never entered Russian territory.

Reuters news agency quotes a Moscow airport source as saying that
Mr Snowden arrived in Moscow from Hong Kong on Sunday afternoon and
was due to depart for the Cuban capital, Havana, the following day,
but did not use the ticket.

The source said he was travelling with Sarah Harrison, a British
legal researcher working for the anti-secrecy group Wikileaks.

Newspaper: The Ruling Elite In Armenia Seriously Displeased With Ish

NEWSPAPER: THE RULING ELITE IN ARMENIA SERIOUSLY DISPLEASED WITH ISHKHAN ZAKARYAN, HEAD OF SUPERVISORY CHAMBER

ARMINFO
Tuesday, June 25, 12:22

The ruling elite in Armenia is seriously displeased with Ishkhan
Zakaryan, Head of Supervisory Chamber, over the Chamber’s recent
exposures in the activity of some government structures and fact of
embezzlement of the budget funds, a local newspaper Hraparak writes.

Rumors about Zakaryan’s possible dismissal are based on statements of
some high-ranking officials who slam Zakaryan for excess of power. The
paper writes that Zakaryan has discrepancies also with his staff that
allegedly impedes inspections and leads to information leakage.

Hraparak writes that Zakaryan’s only hope is President Serzh Sargsyan,
who does not mind leaving Zakaryan on his position so far.

Earlier, on June 20, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said in the
government that the statement by Ishkhan Zakaryan, head of the
Supervisory Chamber of Armenia, saying that 70% of the state budget
expenditures are risky, does not correspond to reality.

“70% of the state budget is 700 bln drams. If what the Supervisory
Chamber says is true, there is large- scale corruption in all
the regions, which does not correspond to reality. The Supervisory
Chamber is a specialized structure and has no right to make political
statements. It is authorized to prepared resolutions on some issues,
nothing else,” the premier said. He said that any public allegations
against departments and ministers must be responded.

“I charge you to respond to allegations. You must either refute the
information or assume responsibility for the violations,” the prime
minister told the Cabinet.
