Armenian opposition MP says police offer security guarantees to her family

19:00 – 12.10.13

Tert.am has talked to Zaruhi Postanjyan, a lawmaker of the opposition
Heritage party and a member of Armenia’s delegation to the Council of
Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly (PACE), who has requested security
guarantees from the police in the wake of the developments that
followed her question to President Serzh Sargsyan (about gambling away
a huge sum at a European casino) at the Assembly’s plenary session in
Strasburg.

Mrs Postanjyan, you have applied to the chief of police for security
guarantees for you and your family. What response have you received?
What do you expect the individuals accompanying security to offer your
family? Do you think it will bear a temporary character or not?

The deputy chief of the Armenian Police, Hunan Poghosyan, has had a
phone conversation with me and expressed willingness to ensure my
security. I expect the Armenian authorities to properly fulfill the
duty imposed imposed on state; that is, the duty to ensure the safety
of an individual’s life and physical security. It is, of course,
desirable, that permissiveness be done away with in our country so
that we could remember the years of repression as an overpassed period
of our history.

You have spoken of threatening letters coming to you through Facebook?
Have such threats been conveyed to you through any channels in Europe
too?

No.

Do you think you are subjected to persecutions in Armenia?

I do.

Mrs Postanjyan, you said on Monday that the PACE Committee on Rules of
Procedure had issued a negative conclusion on [National Assembly
speaker] Hovik Abrahmyan’s move to replace you, whereas [Head of the
Armenian Delegation to the PACE] David Harutyunyan said the question
had been discussed in Brussels, without any procedures being
undertaken. Can you say after all whether there has been a written
response from the PACE Committee on Rules of Procedure, and if so,
when it was and what content it had?

I have said many times before that an official response will be given
after an official request is submitted to the PACE. No official
process has been so far initiated by Hovik Abrahamyan.

Your replacement issue was later attributed to the D’Hondt formula.
What are your comments?

It is necessary to wait for the official process.

Do you regret for the statement?

A struggle for the freedom and independence of one’s home country is
not an easy one . This is a struggle led by our ancestors and
transferred to our generation. So our obligation is to continue the
struggle on all fronts. I do believe we are a worthy nation, and we
will have a free, independent and united fatherland. Our children will
be the citizens of freedoms and dignity.

G. Chugaszian: Armenia enters `perestroika’ stage

G. Chugaszian: Armenia enters `perestroika’ stage

Saturday, October 12, 2013

`We want to create a concept of a new state. It will include ten
spheres. Armenia is now entering an important transition stage which
can be compared with the perestroika,’ the coordinator of
Pre-Parliament civil initiative Garegin Chugaszian told reporters
today during the presentation of the Strategic Concept of Formation
and Development of an Armenian State of New Quality.

In his words, Armenian statehood has two achievements – the victory in
the Karabakh war and independence. `There has been a setback in all
the other spheres. At the moment the immune system of our people is in
poor condition. An alternative to these authorities should be
created,’ Chugaszian said.

According to him, the situation has changed after the decision on
entry into the Customs Union was taken on September 3.

Member of Pre-Parliament Varuzhan Avetisian said for his part that
they intend to establish a state of new quality, that is, a state
capable of ensuring free and creative work of the people.

`We should create a state that will make us a serious factor both in
the region and the world,’ Avetisian said, stressing the need to unite
the potential and resources of the people in order to achieve this
goal. He said the new development strategy covers socioeconomic,
defense, information, court, environmental and other spheres.

Glazyev: Armenian Negotiators Have Not Even Read The Text Of The Ass

GLAZYEV: ARMENIAN NEGOTIATORS HAVE NOT EVEN READ THE TEXT OF THE ASSOCIATION AGREEMENT WITH THE EU

by Ashot Safaryan

ARMINFO
Friday, October 11, 12:02

There were some amazing howlers in the text of the Armenia-EU
Association Agreement, says Sergey Glazyev, Academician of the Russian
Academy of Science, Advisor to President of Russia, Komsomoslkaya
Pravda writes.

Under the Agreement, Glazyev said, Armenia pledges to fulfill the
EU’s directives in the field of sea fishing and cross-border trading
with the EU, though Armenia has neither access to the sea nor borders
with the EU.

“Armenia’s representatives responsible for the negotiations have not
even read the text. If Armenia signed that document, it would lose
its sovereignty in the same field as Ukraine did. Armenia would lose
the opportunity to participate in the Eurasian integration process
and would have to leave our structures of preferential economic
cooperation,” the Russian academician said.

Azerbaijan Must Use This Election To End The Aliyev Dynasty

AZERBAIJAN MUST USE THIS ELECTION TO END THE ALIYEV DYNASTY

When the Azerbaijani people go to the polls this week they can begin
to put 20 years of corruption and brutality behind them

Jamil Hasanli theguardian.com, Tuesday 8 October 2013 13.00 BST

of dollars in oil revenues are wasted and lost, but mostly stolen by
the Aliyev clan.’ Photograph: Ilkin Huseynov/AP

The people of Azerbaijan will go to the polls on 9 October to elect
their president. I am running in this election with the paramount
aim of ending 20 years of the Aliyev dynasty’s misrule of my country,
and restoring Azerbaijani democracy.

Since the incumbent, Ilham Aliyev, inherited power from his late father
10 years ago, Azerbaijan has become mired in rampant corruption, and
theruling regime has grown ever more authoritarian and ruthless. Most
importantly, the ongoing conflict with Armenia has still not been
resolved and Azerbaijani territories remain under occupation.

It is time to say enough. The Azerbaijani people deserve better. Our
democratic movement is now united in an unprecedented alliance. The
National Council of Democratic Forces has elected me as its
presidential candidate. It includes opposition parties, civil society
campaigners, members of the intelligentsia and youth activists. We
have put forward a comprehensive and credible programme of political,
constitutional and economic reform.

If elected, I have undertaken to serve for a limited, two-year term
only, to oversee a transition to democracy and the establishment
of the rule of law. Tackling corruption, ending oligarchic control
of the national economy, releasing political prisoners, limiting
presidential powers, strengthening parliament, democratising and
opening up the peace process with Armenia are some of the key measures
we are proposing. Restoring social justice and providing equality of
opportunity for all are our top priorities.

Aliyev has never won a free and fair election and knows he cannot win
this one. Elections and referendums in Azerbaijan have been marked
by widespread electoral fraud and vote-rigging. Having taken control
of all electoral commissions in the country, the Aliyev regime has
now intensified its ongoing crackdown against independent media, the
opposition and civil society, prompting condemnation and statements
of concern from international human rights organisations and the EU.

Recent protests in Azerbaijan’s impoverished regions were met with
brutal force.

The oil boom of the past few years has made the Aliyev family and
its cronies extremely wealthy and the regime will do its utmost
to keep power. Aliyev is running for an unprecedented third term,
following the disputed 2009 referendum which removed presidential
term limits. I believe this contravenes the Azerbaijani constitution
and the European convention on human rights. I have launched a legal
challenge and demanded a judicial review. Without a clear, unbiased
and unequivocal constitutional court ruling on this matter, Aliyev’s
third-term presidency is not legitimate.

I recognise that Azerbaijani democrats face a formidable challenge in
this election. But it is a challenge we must meet. Because while the
elites prospered, the majority of people benefitted little from the oil
boom. The problem of the disputed Karabakh region remains unresolved
and hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis are unable to return to their
homes. Healthcare and education standards have plummeted. Widespread
corruption and political cronyism stifle the economy, which has
grown totally dependent on oil and gas exports. The very fabric
of Azerbaijani society and state is being eroded, while billions
of dollars in oil revenues are wasted and lost in mismanagement,
but mostly stolen by the Aliyev clan. Despite my official protests,
Ilham Aliyev has still not submitted financial reports on relevant
family members, as required by the Azerbaijani electoral code.

The Aliyev regime has gone to great lengths to improve its
international image in recent years. Yet the reality I describe above
is very different from the polished propaganda spouted by Aliyev’s PR
consultants. The international community has an ethical responsibility
to hold the regime to its international commitments. But it is also in
the interest of Azerbaijan’s partners that the country is stable and
develops in a democratic and progressive direction. This election
provides an opportunity for a fresh international engagement in
Azerbaijan and a robust election observation process.

Throughout my campaign I have witnessed a growing hunger for change
in Azerbaijan. Voters across the country, young and old, expressed
their hope for a better, freer future. I believe that my candidacy,
backed by a united and organised pro-democracy movement, represents
the best chance for a peaceful transition from oligarchic autocracy
to progressive democracy.

Turquie: Ergenekon Et Le Genocide Armenien

A titre d’exemple, Dogu Perincek,

dessus.

Je vais continuer a traiter ce sujet.

Azerbaidjan : Une Application De La Commission Electorale Affiche Le

AZERBAIDJAN : UNE APPLICATION DE LA COMMISSION ELECTORALE AFFICHE LES RESULTATS DU VOTE AVANT L’ELECTION

AZERBAIDJAN

Photos

Yerevan’s Kond Residents Promise A ‘Parade Of The Homeless’ (VIDEO)

YEREVAN’S KOND RESIDENTS PROMISE A ‘PARADE OF THE HOMELESS’ (VIDEO)

10.10.2013 19:15 epress.am

Eighty residents of the Yerevan neighborhood of Kond were unable to
“catch” the prime minister after his cabinet meeting today. They
broke up into different groups and decided to supervise all the exits
from which the prime minister might leave the building; however,
after waiting fruitlessly for a few hours, they continued their
demonstration outside the RA Ministry of Finance.

Recall, it’s been 6 years since their homes were demolished and they
were promised apartments in a new building to be constructed in the
same area within 2.5 years, but the government, according to the
residents, is playing game of “come back tomorrow”.

Speaking to Epress.am, the disgruntled residents said they have a
contract and all the necessary documents, but the developer, a company
called Downtown, is deceiving them and is not supplying the apartments.

“215 families today are renting: more than half have died, others have
left the country. They’ve swallowed the money, and now they’re saying,
‘There’s no money for us to invest.’ In 6 years they’ve built [only]
4 floors,” said Garegin Safaryan.

He said that they have one demand: to get their promised, new
apartments, the hope of which they’ve already lost, though Serzh
Sargsyan told them one year ago, don’t worry, “everything will
be fine.”

“It’s been 6 years, we ‘haven’t worried about it’, but we’re not going
to sit still any longer, we’re going to go to the finance ministry,
to see what it says. During the Erebuni-Yerevan celebration, we’re
going to come out demonstrating. It will be amazing: a parade of the
homeless,” Safaryan concluded.
