Armenian Academic: Armenia never forgets Iran’s supports

Tehran

Head of Armenia Lazarian International Relations Institute said that
Armenia will never forget Iran’s supports after its independence.

Anahid Roustamian made the remarks in a meeting here on Monday
afternoon dubbed as ‘Historical and cultural ties between Iran and
Armenia’.

Armenia, after its independence in 1991 had no facilities such as
electricity and gas and Iran offered a lot of support to the country,
which will never be forgotten.

Reminding academic cooperation between the two countries since 1996,
Roustamian expressed hope that the students can take more steps in
this direction.

The president of the institute said that we are here at the invitation
of Organization of Culture and Islamic Communications and our main
goal is to sign Memoranda of Understanding for exchanging students and
discussing different fields of cooperation in the future.

Head of International Relations Studies in Yerevan State University
Gorgan Vartaian also said in the meeting that the two countries have
had long historical ties, in which all three presidents of the country
after independence had visit to Iran in their top priorities.

He added that Iran is the biggest neighbor and ally of Armenia and
pointed out that Iran has always been an independent country, but
Armenia is still trying to stabilize its independence.

Deputy head of Iran-Eurasia Study Institute, for her part, welcomed
Armenian delegation to Iran.

Mandana Teishe-yar, by referring to historical ties and common myths
between the two nations, added that common myths, history and culture
have created a joint identity for Iran and Armenia.

She continued that Iran’s 11th government has based its diplomacy in
the Caucasus region upon cultural diplomacy and we believe expansion
of cultural relations would lead to economic relations expansion.

Teishe-yar expressed hope that by creating reciprocal scientific
opportunities, researchers of the two countries can implement more
joint scientific plans.

Armenia membership in EEU not to cover Nagorno-Karabakh – Nazarbayev

Armenia membership in Eurasian Economic Union not to cover
Nagorno-Karabakh – Kazakh leader

MINSK. Oct 10

The Eurasian Economic Union’s regulations will not apply to
Nagorno-Karabakh when Armenia joins the EEU under a compromise on
Friday that settled a “sensitive issue”, Kazakhstan President
Nursultan Nazarbayev announced.

This means “there are no obstacles to a treaty on Armenia’s accession
to the Eurasian Union,” Nazarbayev told a meeting in Minsk of the
Supreme Eurasian Council.

At a council meeting in May, Nazarbayev cited “a letter from the
president of Azerbaijan saying that… the treaty on Armenia’s
accession to the EEU must apply to what is its territory within
international borders as recognized by the United Nations.”

At that time Nazarbayev told Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan that
Armenia would be best-advised stick to the principle it had “used in
its accession to the World Trade Organization to avoid irritating our
fellow president in Azerbaijan.”

Later, Sargsyan told Armenia’s Public Television that the country’s
planned accession to the EEU would not cover Nagorno-Karabakh.
“Armenia will join within the borders that it has itself recognized,
just as it has followed this principle in joining and being a member
of the rest of the international organizations [that it has joined].”

Armenian farm produce, brandy to replace Moldovan counterparts in
Russian market – official

MINSK. Oct 10

A Russian representative in the Eurasian Economic Commission on Friday
said Armenian agricultural produce and brandy would replace their
Moldovan counterparts in the Russian market because of Moldova’s
alleged departure from a free trade agreement with Russia without
giving advance notice to Moscow.

Tatyana Volovaya, who is a member of the commission’s integration and
macroeconomics unit in the Eurasian Economic Commission, said Moldova
had violated its free trade deal with Russia without notifying the
latter and that this had forced Russia to take measures to protect its
interests.

“One of the effects of it is a decrease in trade between the two
countries, which began before the Ukrainian events,” she said.

She claimed that Moldovan agricultural produce and brandy are similar
to their Armenian counterparts. “Naturally, in that case the Armenian
business of supplying agricultural produce and brandy will take up a
significant part of the Russian market, replacing goods from Moldova,”
she said.

Earlier on Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin had criticized
Moldova for not discussing the potential effects of its association
agreement with the European Union on Russian-Moldovan economic
relations before signing the pact.

“We are opposition and will remain it, we won’t join the four”

The aim of the rally was to gather as many people as possible, is sure
Democratic party President Aram Sargsyan, “They want to show the
authorities that there is a displeased mass and that they govern that
mass in order to make the government do the first step and dialogue
with them.”

It was seen on October 10 on the Freedom Square that people came in
groups, says Aram Sargsyan, and relevant means and finances are needed
for that. To the question of A1+, whether people came by buses, Mr.
Sargsyan answered, “It is evident that something was done, but if they
came willingly, it’s even better.”

Yesterday it was also spoken about the future rallies. Democratic
party President is sure that the opposition took a break in order to
see the response of the government, “When they said that they would
speak later, it was for that”: (he means Gagik Tsarukyan who said that
he will speak the next time- edt.)

Will Democratic party join the four? (we remind that yesterday HZhK
joined the troika). Aram Sargsyan excluded it, “We have nothing in
common with them. We are opposition and will remain it. We will
criticize the authorities and will get ready for the elections. But we
won’t join them.”

Armenia holds Serbia to 1-1 at home in Euro-2016 qualifier

Winger Zoran Tosic scored a last-minute equalizer as Serbia salvaged a
1-1 draw against Armenia on Saturday in European Championship
qualifying.

Robert Arzumanyan had put the hosts in front with a diving header in
the 73rd minute as Armenia looked set for its first ever win over
Serbia.

Armenia, which had had never scored a goal in its three previous games
against Serbia, squandered the opportunity to double its advantage
when Marcos Pizelli had his penalty saved in the 83rd.

Armenia lost its Group I opener 2-1 against Denmark while Serbia
started its campaign in Yerevan.

Absence Of Common Border With EEU Will Not Hamper Armenia’s Integrat

ABSENCE OF COMMON BORDER WITH EEU WILL NOT HAMPER ARMENIA’S INTEGRATION INTO SINGLE EURASIAN ECONOMIC SPACE, SERZH SARGSYAN

YEREVAN, October 10. / ARKA /. Armenia does not share common border
with any of the Eurasian Economic Union’s member state, but this will
not hamper its integration into the single Eurasian space, Armenia
President Serzh Sargsyan said at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian
Economic Council in Minsk, Belarus.

Today Armenia has joined the Eurasian Economic Union. The agreement
was signed by the heads of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Armenia
in Minsk, Belarus. The agreement comes into force in 2015.

“The membership of Armenia has its own specificity which is the
absence of common borders with the rest of the Eurasian Economic
Union. However, we believe that this would not hamper the integration
of Armenia into the single system of regulation, transportation,
energy, telecommunications and finance in our common economic area,”
he said.

“We are well aware of the special responsibilities that we assume by
joining the treaty,” said the Armenian leader.

Serzh Sargsyan congratulated the states that have founded the EEU
with reaching the new frontier. He noted that the EEU is the largest
economic association geographically.

Serzh Sargsyan said also Armenia is considering the Eurasian Economic
Union as a ‘basic format of predictable and most profitable relations
for its members, based on the principles of freedom of movement of
goods, services, capital and labor.

He also stressed that for Armenia it is obvious that “together we are
stronger economically, and it is easier for us to respond to global
challenges.” -0-

AGREEMENT ON ARMENIA’S ACCESSION TO THE EURASIAN ECONOMIC UNION SIGNED

Belarus News (BelTA)

10 October 2014 17:00 | Politics

MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) – The heads of state signed an agreement
on Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) on 10
October, BelTA has learned.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin hopes that the parliaments of
the three Customs Union member states will ratify the agreement on
Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union fast. Vladimir
Putin made the relevant statement at the session of the Supreme
Eurasian Economic Council on 10 October.

“We expect that the legislators of our states will smoothly pass the
document by the end of the year,” said Vladimir Putin. He also said
he hopes that the macroeconomic effect will be visible 1-2 years
after Armenia’s joins the Eurasian Economic Union.

“It is important to keep working as hard. We have to adopt about
50 documents on some organizational and financial aspects of the
Eurasian Economic Union’s operation by the end of the year,” said
the President of the Russian Federation.

Apart from that, Vladimir Putin suggested holding the next session
in Moscow in December in order to complete the entire protocol process.

Armenia Signs Up For Moscow-Led Economic Union

ARMENIA SIGNS UP FOR MOSCOW-LED ECONOMIC UNION

Yahoo News
Oct 10 2014

Armenia on Friday officially signed up to a Russian-led economic
union, cementing a deal that will see the former Soviet country turn
its back on closer ties with Europe.

President Serzh Sarkisian signed the agreement to join the Eurasian
Economic Union at a meeting of regional heads of state in the
Belarusssian capital Minsk.

“We consider the Eurasian Economic Union as the fundamental format
for developing the most predictable and profitable relations for our
country,” Sarkisian told the gathering.

The Caucasus nation of 3 million is now set to join Russia, Belarus
and Kazakhstan in the economic bloc when it comes into force at the
start of next year.

The project builds on an existing customs union between those three
countries and has been championed by Russian President Vladimir
Putin as he seeks to restore ties between remnants of the former
Soviet Union.

Under pressure from Moscow, Armenia last year ditched plans to sign
a pact on closer trade and diplomatic ties with the European Union.

Landlocked, and cut off from trade with its neighbouring foes Turkey
and Azerbaijan, Armenia is heavily reliant on its ties to Russia.

Remittances from citizens living there make up a sizeable chunk of
its economy.

It also counts on its ex-Soviet master for arms supplies for its
festering conflict with Azerbaijan over the disputed Nagorny Karabakh
region.

Last November, a move by Ukraine to ditch key political and trade
agreements with the EU in favour of closer Russian ties set off
bloody protests that led to the ouster of Kremlin-backed leader
Viktor Yanukovych.

Russia responded by annexing Crimea from Ukraine in March and throwing
its support behind rebels in the east, but Kiev’s new pro-Western
leadership has signed the landmark deal with the EU and sought to
sever institutional ties to its Soviet past.

Baku Outraged By French Mayor’s Visit To Occupied Azeri Lands

BAKU OUTRAGED BY FRENCH MAYOR’S VISIT TO OCCUPIED AZERI LANDS

Interfax, Russia
October 8, 2014 Wednesday 5:56 PM MSK

BAKU. Oct 8

A visit by the mayor of the French city of Bourg-les-Valence,
Marlene Mourier, to the occupied Azeri territories and the signing
of a “declaration of friendship” between the Azeri city of Shusha,
seized by Armenia, and Bourg-les-Valence during this visit runs
counter to France’s mediation mission as the co-chair in the OSCE
(Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) Minsk Group,
according to Azeri Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hikmet Hajiyev.

“The signing by the mayor of Bourg-les-Valence of any document with
the illegal and self-proclaimed regime created by Armenia on the
basis of aggression and occupation is against the French laws and
France’s mediating role as the co-chair in the OSCE Minsk Group,”
the spokesperson said.

Mourier’s visit to the occupied Azeri lands without the appropriate
approval from officials in Baku is illegal and violates the law on
“The national border of the Azerbaijani Republic,” Hajiyev said.

“Such an illegal step by the mayor of Bourg-les-Valence ahead of a
meeting initiated by President Francois Hollande between the leaders
of Azerbaijan and Armenia in Paris is a provocation,” said Hajiyev.
