Israeli President Backtracks On Armenian Genocide Recognition

ISRAELI PRESIDENT BACKTRACKS ON ARMENIAN GENOCIDE RECOGNITION

December 5, 2014 – 13:18 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, formerly an
outspoken advocate of Israel’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide,
decided not to renew his signature on an annual petition calling for
Israel to officially recognize the mass killings as genocide.

According to The Times of Israel, those responsible for the petition
were surprised by Rivlin’s change of stance, Israel’s Channel 10 News
reported on Thursday, Dec 4 night, which was ascribed to the heightened
sensitivity of his position since Rivlin was elected president earlier
this year. The TV report said Rivlin was apparently concerned not to
further harm Israel’s strained relations with Turkey.

Ties have been all-but frozen in recent years, notably as a
consequence of the 2010 killings of nine Turkish citizens by Israeli
naval commandos who were attacked when they intercepted the Turkish
vessel Mavi Marmara as it sought to break Israel’s security blockade
of Hamas-run Gaza.

The 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide will be commemorated
on April 24, 2015.

Beit Hanassi, the president’s official residence, confirmed that
Rivlin had not signed the petition, Channel 10 said. It said unnamed
Foreign Ministry officials welcomed the president’s “statesmanship.”

Israel has avoided formally recognizing the Armenian Genocide in the
political arena for years, for fear of straining diplomatic ties with
Turkey, which was Israel’s closest ally in the Muslim world until
the deterioration under the leadership of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, an
open supporter of Hamas who has issued a stream of highly critical
statements about Israel.

In years past, Rivlin on numerous occasions encouraged Israeli
lawmakers to reject the politicized discourse that has dominated the
discussion of the issue.

“I’m aware of the sensitivity, but I’m not blaming modern-day
Turkey,” Rivlin told Knesset members last year, when he was still an
MK himself. “The government that committed these acts was overturned
by Turkey itself,” he said during a special session on the topic.

“I’m sure Turkey will be an ally. I think a solution needs to be
found for this crisis, but it’s unthinkable that the Knesset ignore
this tragedy,” Rivlin said. “We demand that people don’t deny the
Holocaust, and we can’t ignore the tragedy of another nation.”

During an interview with Israel Army Radio in 2013, Rivlin highlighted
the differences between the Holocaust and the murder of the Armenian
people. But without blurring those differences, Israel must find a
way to “fulfill its moral obligation of remembering wrongs done to
others,” he said.

Armenian-Invented Boft Machine Makes Prints From Instagram Account

ARMENIAN-INVENTED BOFT MACHINE MAKES PRINTS FROM INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT

December 5, 2014 – 14:00 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – The world’s fist kiosk which makes Polaroid-size
prints from a phone or Instagram account has been invented by
Russian-Armenian entrepreneurs Tos Movsisyan and Artem Garmeryan,
who’re certain that it’s one of a kind, Vedomosti reports.

Experienced in online business, Muscovite Tos Movsisyan and St.

Petersburg-based Artem Garmeryan first met at Lappeenranta University
of Technology in Finland.

Having left the University they continued to communicate, later
coming up with the idea of a Boft machine “to materialize emotions,”
as they put it.

The mostly female-oriented project took $200,000 in investments,
with the inventors contributing their own savings, as well as loans
from their well-provided friends.

The implementation of the project, including the software development,
and search for a manufacturer, among other details, took over a year,
with the first machine released in 2014 in Moscow.

Armenian Central Bank’s Policy Right – Economist

ARMENIAN CENTRAL BANK’S POLICY RIGHT – ECONOMIST

15:27 * 04.12.14

“The Central Bank is implementing the right policy. The fewer
statements it issues the more confident the population will feel,
because it is this speculative game that account for the USD
appreciation…”

In an interview with Tert.am, economist Vilen Khachatryan commented
on the latest exchange fluctuations.

According to him, it is “gambling” on the US dollar.

“I can cite the example of 2009, when people sustained losses. If
the situation gets stabilized within ten days, the exchange rate will
be balanced.”

With respect to the Central Bank’s policy, Mr Khachatryan said:

“The Central Bank is implementing the right policy. The fewer
statements it issues the more confident the population will feel,
because it is this speculative game that account for the USD
appreciation.”

Armenia’s Premier Hovik Abrahamyan commented on the matter on
Wednesday.

“There can be actors entering the currency market. But it is expected
to cause USD depreciation. And it is international practice,” Mr
Khachatryan said.

That is, there may be agiotage without any economic grounds. “It
is called irrational behavior. It can be applied in different ways,
in a bank’s case, for example. And such a bank may go bankrupt.”

Chavushoghlu Repeats Beaten Thesis On Armenian-Turkish Border Openin

CHAVUSHOGHLU REPEATS BEATEN THESIS ON ARMENIAN-TURKISH BORDER OPENING

13:34, 4 December, 2014

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 4, ARMENPRESS: The Minister of Foreign Affairs
of Turkey Mevlut Chavushoghlu, always speaking with Armenia in
the language of preconditions, made another unrealistic statement
concerning the Armenian-Turkish relations. Armenpress reports, citing
the Turkish Sabah that during his flight to the NATO Foreign Ministers
meeting, in the airplane Chavushoghlu touched upon the statement of
Pope Francis on opening of the Armenian-Turkish border, emphasizing
that it is the wish of the Pope.

Trying to mislead the unaware people and concealing the fact that the
progress in the Armenian-Turkish relations has always been hindered
by Ankara, Chavushoghlu stated that Turkey as well wants to open
the border. “In the Armenian issue Turkey always makes steps. There
is no sound from the other side and our outstretched hand remains
unanswered”, – said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey,
forgetting that Armenia has for many times stated about its readiness
to establish relations with Turkey without preconditions.

Russian-Turkish Relations Important For South Caucasus Region – Expe

RUSSIAN-TURKISH RELATIONS IMPORTANT FOR SOUTH CAUCASUS REGION – EXPERT

15:48 * 03.12.14

Political scientist Alexander Iskandaryan is sure the Armenian and
Russian Parliaments will ratify the treaty on Armenia’s accession to
the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).

“Russia’s relations with the EU are steadily worsening, which has its
impact on our region. In this context, Russian President Vladimir
Putin’s visit to Turkey is most important. Oil prices are rapidly
falling, and we can feel the effect. It happened before as well,
but a critical situation is developing now,” Mr Iskandaryan told
reporters on Wednesday.

As Russia-West relations are getting worse, attempts are being made
to isolate Russia, which, in turn, is trying to consolidate relations
with other nations.

“It is not only Turkey, but also China and India. The South Stream
project, in which Russia has invested over US $8bn, may involve the
nations as well. I cannot say what pressure it will prove to be on
the West,” the expert said.

With respect to Russian-Turkish relations, they are of importance
for the region.

“If am not mistaken, Russia is Turkey’s second major partner, while
Turkey is Russia’s seventh largest partner. Recent years have seen
obvious improvement in Turkish-Russian relations. And now, during
Erdogan’s presidency, Turkey feels less dependent on western policy
than before,” Mr Iskandaryan said.

dernier.
