Protocols Are Being Used To Pressure Armenia, Says Manoyan

PROTOCOLS ARE BEING USED TO PRESSURE ARMENIA, SAYS MANOYAN

ARF Political Director Giro Manoyan

YEREVAN (Yerkir)-The Armenia-Turkey protocols are being used to
pressure Armenia on the Karabakh issue, said Armenian Revolutionary
Federation Political Affairs Director Giro Manoyan, reiterating his
party’s position that since Turkey has changed the rules of the game,
Armenia should pull out from the process or say that they have failed.

According to Manoyan, who was speaking at a press conference Tuesday,
the Karabakh conflict resolution process would have been very different
if Turkey did not place the preconditions on the protocol ratification
process.

The current climate of pressure on Armenia allowed Azeri President
Ilham Aliyev to go a step further and, on the eve of scheduled talks
with his Armenian counterpart, make military threats against Armenia,
said Manoyan who went on to criticize Armenia’s official handling of
this situation and other such incidents during this tense diplomatic
process.

Manoyan pointed out that Armenia’s response to the Azeri president’s
remarks was insufficient. He argued that it was unsatisfactory for
the president’s spokesperson to announce that Armenia will recognize
Karabakh’s independence in the event of military aggression by
Azerbaijan, explaining that in the event of an Azeri attack, Armenia
should be calling for uniting Armenia with Karabakh.

The ARF leader also criticized other announcements by Armenian
officials, whereby Aliyev’s statements were characterized as "for
domestic consumption."

"What does it mean that it is for internal consumption when we can
hear it too," said Manoyan, stressing the importance of an effective
response from the Armenian authorities.

VLADIMIR ZAKHAROV: AZERI PRESIDENT IS INHUMAN PERSONALITY

/PanARMENIAN.Net/
23.11.2009 17:52 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The only progress in Armenian and Azeri Presidents’
recent meeting was Azeri leaders’ attempt to coerce Armenia into
concessions by bellicose statements on possible war. But as we see,
that didn’t happen, Vladimir Zakharov, deputy director of the Caucasus
Research Center at the Moscow State University of International
Relations (MSUIR), told PanARMENIAN.Net. He also referred to Russian
FM Sergey Lavrov’s statement on impossibility of any conflict. "Azeri
President’s statements are intended for the West. Armenia gives no
ground for resuming war," Russian expert said.

Besides, he noted that children in Azerbaijan are instilled with hatred
for Armenian from kindergarten. "All that is governed by Azerbaijan’s
ruling top class. Aliyev could suspend the process but refused to
do to gain an extra advantage. His wants to be an eternal leader,"
Zakharov stressed, adding that "Azeri President always demonstrates
his aggressive rhetoric. He is an inhuman personality."

ANKARA: French teacher insists Turkish student accept genocide

French teacher insists Turkish student accept genocide

A news piece published in Today’s Zaman this week has reverberated in
France as the drama continues to unfold around the case of a student
in France suspended from school for refusing to deign to his teacher’s
insistence he recognize an alleged genocide against Armenians.

The controversy centers around 13-year-old French student of Turkish
descent Mustafa DoÄ?an. DoÄ?an’s history teacher asked a question about
the events of 1915 and the `Armenian genocide’ in a written exam.
Having previously argued with the teacher over the issue, the Turkish
student became angry and wrote, `Even if it did happen, they deserved
it.’ DoÄ?an told Today’s Zaman his teacher threatened to give him a
zero on the exam if he denied the genocide. The school principal
phoned the student’s father, who said that there was no law
stipulating punishment for those who denied the so-called genocide.
Following the quarrel, the school’s disciplinary committee suspended
DoÄ?an for two days and gave him an assignment in which he was to
recognize the validity of the genocide within two days, despite his
apology for his comment about Armenians deserving their fate. The
homework was to be titled `Armenian Genocide Committed by the Ottoman
Empire: A Crime against Humanity.’

Following the emergence of the events, members of the Armenian
diaspora in France have sprung into action, urging immediate passage
of a draft bill pending in the Senate that would make it a crime to
deny the alleged genocide. The school principal had told Today’s Zaman
and also Turkish association COJEP International, which is following
the case closely, that the student’s punishment was given not because
of his denial of the alleged genocide but because of the phrase he had
used regarding Armenians `deserving’ whatever happened to them. But
when DoÄ?an submitted an assignment describing the concept of genocide
in general terms and including an apology for his statement, his
teacher rejected it, saying the student needs to submit an assignment
researching the historical context of the `genocidal’ events, writing
a detailed list of how many people were killed and how it was
organized, meeting with genocide survivors, stating that he recognizes
the genocide and focusing on militant Turks who committed the
genocide.

COJEP head Veysel Filiz told Today’s Zaman that DoÄ?an’s teacher’s
insistence in regard to the incident and the homework assignment is
not understandable given that the offense committed by DoÄ?an has been
retracted; even his father, Mehmet DoÄ?an, described his child’s usage
of the phrase a mistake.
