NAIROBI: I’ll Wed Winnie In Kenya: Artur Margaryan

I’LL WED WINNIE IN KENYA: ARTUR MARGARYAN
Story By Francis Thoya

Daily Nation , Kenya
April 18 2007

The man at the centre of newspaper reports of a plot to kill Opposition
leaders has vowed to wed his sweetheart Winnie Wangui in Kenya despite
a ban from entering the country.

Mr Artur Margaryan said he expected to wed Ms Wangui between June
and July, with or without a valid entry permit.

In a telephone interview from Sri Lanka, Mr Artur said: "Neither the
Security minister nor the police commissioner will stop me from coming
to Kenya."

He further said: "I expect a lot of dignitaries drawn from all over
the world to attend. For a week, I’ll be in Kenya, the next week in
Dubai and finally in Armenia."

Mr Margaryan is locked in a controversy over claims that a senior
government official approached him to assassinate Baringo Central
MP Gideon Moi. A story detailing these claims and published by The
Standard, prompted police commissioner Hussein Ali to summon the
entire senior management of the group to record statements on Monday.

They were freed that night after hours of questioning. Security
minister John Michuki also dismissed the report.

But yesterday, Mr Margaryan said he had damning information against
several Cabinet ministers.

At the same time The Standard Group said it was willing to give more
information on the story. Speaking to the Nation by telephone, its
group editorial director Kwendo Opanga said apart from the information
and the tapes they provided to the police on Monday, they have not
been asked for more.

Further proof

"We’re committed to assisting in further investigations if called
upon to do so," said Mr Opanga.

Yesterday, The Standard management met with its lawyers following
Monday’s incident in which four of it top managers were quizzed by
CID detectives over the Arturs story. The government has ordered
investigations into the newspaper reports.

Mr Margaryan insisted that summoning of the Standard Group managers
was aimed at hiding the truth.

He promised to reveal the names of all individuals he had dealt with
in President Kibaki’s government before he was whisked out of the
country hurriedly last year after causing a security scare at the
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Urgent Appeal To Sons And Daughters Of The Armenian Genocide Survivo

URGENT APPEAL TO SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE SURVIVORS
Jean Eckian

4000 years of history reduced to nothing in a matter of months by the
most heinous crime that a population could experience. A genocide. A
genocide that does not finish wreaking havoc until reaching the very
core of the diaspora by the aggression of a state that does not want
to accept the truth. A genocide that wants to reduce to nothing not
just the words like those of the late Hrant Dink, but also the ancient
Armenian culture, as if these people had never lived in Asia Minor. As
if they had never even existed… since according to certain Turkish’s
intellectuals, a majority of the local population never learnt about
their history from school books…

For several years, the diaspora has already been fighting from all
angles the Turkish state and small extremist group revisionism that
would like to silence the just demands of the descendants of those who
survived the first genocide of the 20th century. To do this, they are
going to great lengths in referring to them in the politics of the free
states and confronting those who recognize that one day back in 1915,
April 24, following the 1894-1897 massacres, a plan was implemented
to exterminate the Armenians under cover of the First World War.

Why this reminder that each one of us, by transference, has been
living a life of sorrow for almost a century?

Because, like all Armenians, we long for nothing else than to bring
victory to an irrefutable truth. The great majority of our population
must participate in the struggle started by the representative
organizations, who are testifying to the tragedy that they suffered
first hand themselves by making the honorary gesture of creating a
memorial to bear the Names of the Martyrs eternally on

This contribution is a moral obligation for those who can bring
together by number and name those members of their families who
suffered this unspeakable crime against humanity, termed "genocide"
by Raphael Lemkin.

Thanks to its database and its internal messaging service, about
dispersed people have been able to retrace members of their family
since this website was set up. It is also one of the sources with
the most information on the diaspora’s activities to raise awareness
about the Armenian Genocide.

Furthermore, you can download an exclusive slide show rendering an
account of the tribute paid to journalist Hrant Dink, three months
after its murder, by Armenians from more than 20 countries.

In 2015 we hope to have registered one million names of those who
suffered the ultimate sacrifice and to whom we simply must pay
tribute. It is time for each one of us to realize that by hiding
our nation’s past, it will sooner or later become obscured in the
consciences of our descendants in centuries to come. The time is here
and now for the Armenian people to act in order to stop the violence.

I solemnly ask you to ensure the memory of our martyrs lives on in the
memorial on (www.) inhomage.com and to pass on this appeal by all means
possible so that every Armenian on our planet testifies and actively
takes part in it. To refrain would be to abandon your own identity
by leaving a gaping hole to swallow up the most grievous abuse.

"Don’t let’s ask what others can do for us, but rather let’s ask what
we can do for the memory of our Martyrs."

Each name registered is a cry from the depths (the source of the
truth).

Thank you for those awaiting liberation by our actions.

Christianity Under Attack: Christians Slaughtered In Muslim-Dominate

CHRISTIANITY UNDER ATTACK: CHRISTIANS SLAUGHTERED IN MUSLIM-DOMINATED TURKEY
By Judi McLeod

Canada Free Press, Canada
April 19 2007

Violence against Christians continues to claim innocent lives
worldwide.

Turkey’s tiny Christian minority is under attack. In the latest spate
of violence, persons unknown tied up three people at a publishing house
that distributes Bibles in Turkey then slit their throats on the same
day that the so-called "multimedia manifesto" of Virginia Tech mass
murderer Cho Seung Hui was televised with the 23-year-old Virginia
student staring into the camera and spewing anti-Christian rhetoric.

The killings in Turkey occurred in the City of Malatya, in central
Turkey. Malayta, the hometown of Mehmet Ali Agca, the gunman who
tried to assassinate Pope John Paul 11 in 1981, is notorious as a
hotbed of Turkish nationalism.

Malatya Gov. Ibrahim Dasoz confirmed that two of the victims at the
Zirve publishing house were found already dead and the third died
after being rushed to hospital. All three had their throats cut and
their hands and legs were bound.

Desoz said police detained four suspects and were investigating
whether another man who suffered head injuries when he jumped from
the window of the publisher’s office may have been involved in the
attack. He was reported undergoing surgery for his injuries."

One of the victims was Turkish, another was German, but the nationality
of the third person killed could not be confirmed.

Zirve employees recently had been threatened. "We know that they have
been receiving some threats," Zirve’s general manager Hamza Ozant said,
but could not say who made the threats.

Nationalists who accuse it of proselytizing in the Muslim dominated
country had targeted the publishing house.

Christians make up less than 1 percent of Turkey’s 70 million people
with Christians increasingly becoming targets.

Public outrage resulted when in February of 2006 a teenager fatally
shot a Catholic priest as he prayed in his church. Two more Catholic
priests were attacked within months.

Early in 2007, a gunman killed Armenian Christian editor Hrant Dink.

In November the Vatican worried about the safety of Pope Benedict XV1
on an official Turkish visit, after he had made comments in a speech
that Muslims said insulted them. The Pope, who refused to cancel the
trip, was greeted with nonviolent protests.

Anthony Godfrey: Media Atmosphere In Armenia Getting More Balanced

ANTHONY GODFREY: MEDIA ATMOSPHERE IN ARMENIA GETTING MORE BALANCED

ArmRadio.am
17.04.2007 15:44

US Chargé d’Affaires Anthony Godfrey declared in an exclusive
interview with Mediamax agency that "the media atmosphere of Armenia
is turning more balanced."

"We know that most Armenian citizens receive information through mass
media, and many times we have voiced our concerns about the question
that the accessibility of broadcasting media for all the candidates
and lack of restrictions is very important," declared the American
diplomat.

"Speaking about conclusions is still early, but I was inspired by the
Yerevan Press Club’s assessment of the monitoring results conducted
during the month prior to the elections: the opposition candidates had
more opportunities to use air time. The OSCE/ODIHR observation mission
has a media monitoring group. I have been in their office and seen
that they are closely observing the activity of the TV channels. The
picture we see today is very positive. Before we were worried, but
we shall refrain from drawing conclusions until getting acquainted
with the recurrent report of the OSCE/ODIHR," said Anthony Godfrey.

"I’m inspired with what we saw before the start of the election
campaign and on the first days of it: in essence, all the candidates
are using the air time not only in the framework of pre-election
speeches but also in news programs. The media-atmosphere is becoming
more balanced," US Chargé d’Affaires says.

Commenting on the pre-election situation in Armenia, Anthony Godfrey
said: " It’s still early to give evaluations. Only one month remains
before the elections, but much can change in this period. However,
I can say that the process of registration of candidates and
political parties passed very successfully. We are very pleased
with the fact that there were no attempts of political reprisals or
political decisions on prohibiting the participation of candidates
or parties. This was a matter of concern for us, but it seems that
everything passed successfully."

I Take Part In Eurovision-2007 Contest Only With Expectation Of Winn

I TAKE PART IN EUROVISION-2007 CONTEST ONLY WITH EXPECTATION OF WINNING, HAYKO SAYS

Noyan Tapan
Apr 17 2007

YEREVAN, APRIL 17, NOYAN TAPAN. "I take part in the Eurovision-2007
contest only with the expectation of winning. If I do not appear
in the best ten, this does not mean that the defeat will endanger
my career." Singer Hayko representing Armenia in Eurovision-2007
contest stated at the April 17 press conference. In response to the
question why he preferred to take part in the contest to be held on
May 12 with the "sad" song "Any time you need" created by him and
not with a rhythmic song, Hayko said: "I am not going to change my
style for Eurovision and to perform with the clothes of devil, as
representatives of Finland performed last year."

In the words of Hrach Keshishian, General Producer of Public
Television of Armenia, many foreign musicians hold the opinion that the
probability of Armenia’s winning Eurovision is great. In his words,
though the Lordi Finnish rock group was recognized the winner at
the competition last year, this year they will pay more attention to
song-ballades. At the same time, he said that this year the majority
of contest participants have presented rock music.

To recap, the author of lyrics of the song "Any time you need" is
Karen Kavalerian residing in Moscow and the song was instrumented by
Ara Torosian.

Hayko’s performance, which, according to the contest program, will
be the penultimate, will be accompanied by the dance staged by
Andrei Sichov.

Google Maps Genocide

Google Maps Genocide

April 13, 2007: Google has moved to highlight the growing humanitarian
crisis in Sudan by utilising its online mapping service to pinpoint
atrocities that have occurred during four years of fighting in the
Darfur region.

Working in conjunction with the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, Amnesty
International and Doctors Without Borders, the project highlights what
theMuseum says, is evidence of genocide related atrocities.

Google has applied additional the information to its popular Google
Earth service by creating layers on top of its already familiar maps
highlighting damaged and destroyed villages, backed up with
documentary photos and video evidence.

They’ve labelled the application `Crisis in Darfur’and it’s just one
aspect of Google’s move to provide a Global Awareness `folder’
highlighting information on a number of growing crisis occurring
across the world. Ultimately, the project will include data on
genocides that have occurred throughout history, including the
Holocaust.

With the standard Google aerial image included, the new layer will be
presented based on information from the Holocaust Memorial Museum
includingdata collected from independent organisations, photographers
and government reports.

The United Nations estimated over 200,000 people have died during the
four conflict in the Darfur region while a further 2.5 million were
displaced.
