/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Demolition of the Armenian cemetery and khachkars in
Old Djugha (Nakhijevan) is medieval barbarism and crime against world
culture. Armenia has provided UNESCO with all essential information
on the issue, RA Foreign Minister said.

"Despite Armenia and Karabakh’s efforts, Azerbaijan constantly hampers
UNESCO mission called to clarify the situation with the historical
and cultural monuments," Edward Nalbandian told reporters today.

The Armenian cemetery in Old Djugha was razed to the ground by Azeri
soldiers in December 2005.

Some 3500 khachkars were demolished and the cemetery was transformed
into a firing ground.

Baku. Tamara Grigorieva-APA. "Armenia should leave its extreme
position – claim for separation of Nagorno Karabakh from Azerbaijan",
said Araz Azimov, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, APA reports.

He said next steps toward the solution of the conflict depended on
the principal positions of the sides. Azimov said the meeting of
Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents in June in St.-Petersburg had a
goal to clarify the position of Armenian new leadership. Responding
the question "Do you believe that Sarkisian will show constructive
position", the Deputy Minister said: "Hope springs eternal".

Araz Azimov said the principal position of Azerbaijan was bringing
the situation in Nagorno Karabakh under the vertical control of
Azerbaijan. "However, ensurance of self-governing status of population
to live in Nagorno Karabakh is a compromise from Azerbaijan".

Boxing: Darchinyan confident of beating super flyweight world champ

Box: Darchinyan confident of beating super flyweight world champ

by Adrian Warren
SYDNEY May 27

Australian Vic Darchinyan rates IBF super flyweight World champion
Dimitri Kirilov as very beatable and predicts he will "destroy" the
Russian in their world title bout in August.

Darchinyan recently returned from Armenia, the country of his birth,
where he spent a few weeks preparing for his big fight return to North
America.

His August 5 clash with 29-year-old Kirilov will take place in either
Las Vegas or Vancouver.

Darchinyan was unimpressed by Kirilov’s performance in his first
defence in which he managed only a draw against Mexican challenger
Cecilio Santos, who had suffered seven previous professional losses.

"I know I’m going to destroy him, I’m very confident about this
fight," said Darchinyan of Kirilov, who has a record of 29 wins (9
KOs), 3 losses and a draw.

"I think he’s very beatable. All he can do is move, he’s not a big
puncher."

Darchinyan will head to America on June 24 for extensive pre-fight
sparing in Los Angeles and Texas.

His manager, Elias Nassar, revealed Darchinyan was also getting
assistance from staff at the NSW Institute of Sport.

"They are getting involved in nutrition and vitamin intake, so Vic
peaks on the day," Nassar said.

If Darchinyan defeats Kirilov, his first defence could be against his
old adversary Nonito Donaire, the only man to beat him in the
professional ranks.

Filipino Donaire, who took away Darchinyan’s IBF and IBO flyweight
world titles last year, is expected to move up to super flyweight and
could challenge WBO champion Fernando Montiel provided the Mexican
successfully defends his title this weekend against former Darchinyan
victim Luis Maldonado.

Donaire is also expected to appear on the August 2 promotion.
Used to beating up bigger sparing partners in the ring, Darchinyan is
now doing the same on computer games.

He was involved today in one of several launches world-wide of the Don
King Prizefighter game.

As the only super flyweight, Darchinyan was testing himself out
against bigger foes in the game including lightweights Joel Casamayor
and Nate Campbell.

in a press conference today. The film is dedicated to
the 100 anniversary of William Saroyan. -The film is
about belief, morality, family, about the modern

people who wish to change the world matching their
lives and not the opposite,- said the director.

According to him the main part of the film was shot in
America. -You’ll not differentiate it from American
films by its technical standards but I tried to keep
the philosophy,- stated the director. R. Kochar said
that the film will be probably ready in autumn.

The hero of the film is Edide Lenin who has an
experience in different films. According to him the
film is the greatest one in his experience. -My

Aliyev: Karabakh Conflict Our Country’s Only Serious Problem

ALIYEV: KARABAKH CONFLICT OUR COUNTRY’S ONLY SERIOUS PROBLEM

PanARMENIAN.Net
28.05.2008 17:19 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The only problem our state faces is the unsettlement
of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the Azerbaijani President said.

"My position is well known. The issue should be resolved in the
framework of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. The talks are
protracted because Azerbaijan doesn’t digress from its principal
position," Ilham Aliyev told an event dedicated to the 90th birthday
of the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic.

"Although there are forces trying to compel Azerbaijan to greater
concessions, alleging problems with democracy development, our
people know what it all means. However, any pressure on our country
makes no sense. Our policy is open and supported by the population,"
Aliyev said.

"We will present our exact position on the Karabakh problem within
coming months and in 2009, since protraction is inadmissible. Extra
concessions on our part are impossible. Participating in talks, we
manifest good will. Despite some progress, there is no result yet. But
thanks to strengthening of our positions, Azerbaijan’s territorial
integrity and liberation of the occupied regions is the key provision
in the talks. Nagorno Karabakh’s secession from Azerbaijan is not
discussed. We can achieve soonest resolution of the conflict of Armenia
demonstrates constructivism," the Azeri President said, Day.az reports.

European Parliament Fails To Draw Up Objective Report On Turkey

EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT FAILS TO DRAW UP OBJECTIVE REPORT ON TURKEY

Financial Mirror
May 23 2008
Cyprus

The European Parliament gathered in plenary session in Strasbourg
voted Thursday the report prepared by Mrs Oomen-Ruijten (Conservative,
Netherlands) on Turkey’s 2007 progress report and its 28 tabled
amendments. From a general point of view, the resolution focuses
its criticism on Turkey’s delays to fulfill its reforms commitments,
especially those regarding the State of Law, democracy, legislative
reforms and the minorities’ rights. The resolution claims that
"additional delays" in the implementation of these reforms "will
seriously affect the rhythm of the negotiations".

Regarding the various aspects of Turkey’s denial policy, the MEPs
failed to produce an objective report which gives a fair decision on
European Parliament’s positions already established on the Armenian
genocide, and this in spite of the strong positions expressed by a
great number of MEPs during the debates.

They have also adopted an amendment tabled by the MEPs supporting
Turkey’s interests (Cem Ozdemir, Joost Lagendijk – Greens) which aims
at minimizing the blockade on Armenia exerted by Turkey for 15 years.

"The Oomen-Ruijten report failed to show the reality of Turkey;
it proved once again that regarding the Armenian genocide the
European position is well established on denial, as is the candidate
country’s. It waters down even the Parliament’s position regarding
the blockade on Armenia by being in flagrant contradiction with the
Accession criteria and the requirements of the Neighbourhood policy:
the Oomen-Ruijten report cannot contribute to a real dialogue between
the Union and Turkey", declared Hilda Tchoboian, the chairperson of
the European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy.

Referring to Article 301, in spite of the unanimous requirements
for abolition made by the Turkish and European civil societies,
the report is satisfied with indicating "that is of the view that
the abrogation of the 301 article would be the best solution", and
considering the cosmetic reform of this article as "a first step".

The European Armenian Federation reminds that the slight reform of
the 301 article deceived the European public opinion, and offended
the Turkish defenders of Human Rights, the first victims of this
iniquitous law which remains unchanged after so many years of
governmental promises.

"The compromising of the Oomen-Ruijten report with a law that penalizes
a right so fundamental that is the freedom of expression for Europe
will not help the Turkish democratic forces to upgrade their society",
commented Hilda Tchoboian.

"What the European societies demand from the European Parliament, is
to express in its reports more transparent positions, the truth on the
situation of Human Rights and democracy in Turkey: it is regrettable
that the report diffuses a screen of smoke in order to hide from the
public opinion the seriousness of Turkey’s breaches in these fields,
yet necessary for the examination of the integration of this country
in the European Union", concluded Hilda Tchoboian.

ANTELIAS: HH: It Is The Lebanese Coexistance That Prevailed in Qatar

"IT IS THE LEBANESE COEXISTANCE THAT PREVAILED IN QATAR"
SAYS HIS HOLINESS ARAM I

"Various interpretations were made about the agreement reached between the
Lebanese sides in Qatar; more will surely follow. For me, however, one thing
is clear: the victory in Qatar was for the coexistence in Lebanon. Any
assessment should be made from this perspective; otherwise it will be an
incorrect approach. Let us not look for winners and losers in the Qatar
agreement. What we should look for instead is a collective commitment driven
by the concern of all sides to salvage Lebanese coexistence. And saving the
Lebanese coexistence means saving Lebanon, because Lebanon is anchored on
that coexistence."

It is with these words that His Holiness Aram I welcomed the agreement the
Lebanese sides reached in Qatar recently.

"An agreement is not the end; it is only the beginning of consultations and
discussions to be held through an honest dialogue. Through the Qatar
agreement, the sides decided to look for solutions within a political
framework. All sides and all communities should participate in this process
under the auspices of the President. The purpose of this process should be
strengthening the authority of the state with the aim of preserving the
sovereignty, integrity and unity of Lebanon," he continued.

Catholicos Aram I emphasized the importance of mutual trust: "All this will
be difficult to realize if we lack mutual trust. It is through mutual trust
that problems enter the course of their solution. It is mutual trust that
leads us to mutual understanding and compromises. Concessions were made in
Qatar and Lebanon was the victor."

The Armenian Pontiff also stressed the need to implement the agreement in
real life. "The agreement will remain on paper if it is not implemented on
the ground. Not only the signatories to the agreement, but also each and
every Lebanese, Lebanon as a whole, face the obligation to avoid attempts
that could destabilize the coexistence in Lebanon."

Finally, the Spiritual Leader welcomed the agreement on electing General
Michel Suleyman as the next president of the Republic of Lebanon, expressing
hope that a new and bright page in the history of Lebanon will be written
under his leadership.

Talking Style – Patricia Field

TALKING STYLE – PATRICIA FIELD

New Zealand Herald
fm?c_id=6&objectid=10511355
May 20 2008

You certainly couldn’t lose her in a crowd. Strutting through the
lobby of the Ritz Carlton hotel in New York, Academy Award-nominated
designer to the stars, Patricia Field’s hair is fuschia-hued, her
petite frame engulfed by a large fur coat.

She wears black and grey striped pants, a black sweater and large
black Dior heels. She speaks in a raspy voice, the kind that sounds
like she’s smoked two packets of unfiltered Camels all her life.

Of Greek and Armenian descent, Field’s relationship with Sarah Jessica
Parker began when the actor starred in Miami Rhapsody in 1995 and
Field was employed as the costume designer.

Parker demanded that Field design the clothes for her character Carrie
Bradshaw in Sex and the City, and her work has since been nominated for
five Emmys (with one win). She is also costume designer for Ugly Betty.

You seem to predict trends a long time before they hit …

People say I do that. But there’s no plan or strategy or consciousness
on my part to predict trends. I just put out original work and it’s
prolific, and so somewhere along the line there’ll be things that
people take to in a big way and they become a trend. But I don’t
predict it. The one thing I’ve learned is that for something to become
a trend, it helps if it’s something that has universal appeal. For
example, a flower, or a name necklace as opposed to a bustier. You
know, something that’s easy for people.

Who is the easiest or most difficult cast member to dress?

Well, originally I would say that Cynthia [Nixon] was a little
difficult to dress because of her body shape and her lack of
interest. But she fixed her shape and she became interested, so I
think she’s gonna run away with the movie.

You shot the movie in September and the movie’s coming out next
month. How did you manage to pick up the clothes and accessories so
that they’d be fashionable?

I never do that. If I tried to do that, I would fail. I just tried
to have little stories for each girl, and then I just tried to dress
them to look good. Of course I pick things from this season, but then
I pick things from 10 years ago. Or whatever. And you mix it all up
and you make a new look that will not get old because it’s original,
and it pertains strictly to this character. I’m not selling clothes.

What’s the one thing you would never wear?

Itchy wool. I read that you said Sarah Jessica Parker has a perfect
body. No one has a better body, of all the people, actresses that I
have ever met. Her muscles are toned, her shoulders are broad, her
ass is high, she’s like a perfect body. It’s little, but it’s perfect.

Do people ever stop you in the street and ask you for fashion advice?

Yeah. Or if I’m shopping, they’ll come over and say, ‘What do you
think I should buy?’

Do you get free Manolos for life?

No, I buy my Manolos. I do get a discount, in all fairness, and once in
a while, you know, [they] will send me a pair of shoes or whatever. But
in general, I’m not in it to get [free things]. I can afford to buy
whatever I want. And I don’t have very expensive taste. In general,
I have good taste, but my taste has not evolved around buying diamonds
and furs – that’s not really how I like to spend my money. It doesn’t
mean I don’t appreciate a nice coat like this, and work it.

What’s your most important piece of style advice?

In order to say somebody has style, it really means somebody has
originality that catches your eye. So, based on the definition of
what I think of as style, my advice would be to tap into yourself,
who you are, how you feel, learn to find your assets, recognise them,
and work them.

Do you have a favourite designer?

I don’t have a favorite designer. I love John Galliano because he
is keeping the flame of fashion burning. He’s the biggest one that
does that. I like him [because he sees] fashion as an art, not only
as an industry.

Who do you think is the kind of quintessential style icon of all time?

Cleopatra. Two thousand years and there’s still an image out there.

Which actress needs your advice badly right now?

I’m not going to answer that!
