Ruben haven’t seen each other. The two celebrated Father’s Day one day

Ruben said getting to see his family and Fresno, the place he’s called
home for the last 16 years, was a great and unexpected gift.

The Mkoian family reunited with their father, after he was in an
Arizona jail, awaiting to be deported to Armenia.

National Spotlight on Arthur helped bring the family back
together. Lawmakers also played a key role in getting Arthur’s dad out
of jail.

For the time being, things are back to normal for the Mkoyans.

River removes all traces

RIVER REMOVES ALL TRACES
[01:14 pm] 13 June, 2008

Idzevan’s centre had been planted with huge trees by
mid-1990. The trees on both banks of the River Aghstev
made the town more attractive and charming. Over the
past ten years the trees have been uprooted and
replaced by luxurious buildings.

Presently, the trees stretching along the left bank of
the river are being lopped off. The great branches are
thrown into the river to remove the trace. Moreover,
the Town Hall has permitted erecting structures on the
right bank, right among the trees. Supposedly, the
trees will be felled in the course of time.

HISTORIC EVENT

WHITNEY MUSEUM TO LEND ARSHILE GORKY’S "THE ARTIST AND HIS MOTHER" TO THE
EASTERN DIOCESE FOR UPCOMING ART EXHIBITION "ART @ THE CATHEDRAL: GIVING
FORM TO FAITH"

It is with great pleasure we announce that the Board of Trustees of the
Whitney Museum of American Art in New York has generously agreed to lend
arguably the most notable painting by Arshile Gorky, entitled The Artist and
His Mother (c.1926-36), to the Diocese of the Armenian Church of America
(Eastern).

The Artist and His Mother will be on display as part of "Art @ the
Cathedral: Giving Form to Faith," an exhibition organized for the occasion
of the 40th anniversary of the consecration of St. Vartan Armenian Cathedral
in New York City.

The Gorky painting will be exhibited at the Diocesan Center only for one day
on Thursday, June 19th, 2008. The granting of such a loan is an unparalleled
homage to the celebration of the 40th anniversary of St. Vartan Armenian
Cathedral. Within the context of the upcoming Diocesan art exhibition, this
Gorky painting will be in dialogue with a wide range of post-World War II
and contemporary artworks.

"We extend our appreciation to the Board of Trustees of the Whitney Museum,"
said Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, Primate of the Armenian Church of America
(Eastern). "This unprecedented loan is truly an exceptional addition to our
exhibition."

It is especially fitting that The Artist and His Mother will be exhibited at
the Eastern Diocese as this year is the 50th anniversary of Gorky’s death,
making the Whitney Museum’s loan particularly significant to the
Armenian-American community.

"We are truly grateful to Adam D. Weinberg, dynamic director of the Whitney
Museum, and to the Whitney Museum’s dedicated Board of Trustees, who have
made this very rare loan possible for the commemoration of the 40th
anniversary of the inception of St. Vartan Armenian Cathedral," said Vicki
Hovanessian curator of the exhibition.

"It is a great honor for the artists who undoubtedly have been influenced by
Gorky to be exhibited side by side with this iconic painting, The Artist and
His Mother," Hovanessian added. "The Armenian-American community holds this
painting as a poignant symbol of Armenian cultural heritage, and the Whitney
Museum has enabled us to display this masterpiece in an Armenian
institution."

In honor of this unprecedented occasion, "Art @ the Cathedral: Giving Form
to Faith" will open early on June 19, 2008 at 2 p.m. The opening-night
reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. A concert in the sanctuary is scheduled
for 7:30 p.m.

The exhibition will remain on view until June 24, 2008 at the Diocesan
Center, 630 Second Avenue, New York, N.Y. 10016. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
June 20-23, and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 24. The exhibition is free and
open to the public. The opening night concert is not.
The Diocese is at 212-686-0710.

UN: Window of Opp. to finally resolve Cyprus problem clearly open

PanARMENIAN.Net

UN: window of opportunity for Cypriots to finally
resolve Cyprus problem clearly open
07.06.2008 15:45 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ United Nations Secretary-General Ban
Ki-moon called on Cypriots to build on the momentum
and make great strides towards reunification.

-A window of opportunity for Cypriots to finally
resolve the Cyprus problem is clearly open,- Mr. Ban
wrote in his latest report to the Security Council on
the work of the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus
(UNFICYP).

He said that it is -particularly heartening- that the
leaders of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot
communities have taken important steps towards
resuming negotiations.

-What is especially encouraging is that the leaders
reconfirmed, at their meeting on 23 May, the broad
outline of a solution, based on a bizonal, bicommunal
federation with political equality, as defined by the
Security Council in its relevant resolutions.-

That partnership, announced by the leaders Demetris
Christofias (Greek Cypriot) and Mehmet Ali Talat
(Turkish Cypriot) after a UN-backed meeting, is to
comprise a Federal Government with a single
international personality, along with a Turkish
Cypriot Constituent State and a Greek Cypriot
Constituent State, which will be of equal status.

Such steps clearly indicate -the renewed political
will to seek a solution to the Cyprus problem,- the
Secretary-General wrote, commending the efforts of Mr.
Christofias and Mr. Talat.

The recent opening of the long-closed crossing at
Ledra Street between the two communities in Nicosia
illustrates what can be achieved with the political
will needed to address problems, he added.

Mr. Ban voiced his firm support for the talks between
the two leaders later this month, and said he will
appoint a Special Adviser.

But he warned that -the coming period will not be easy
and may require major compromises,- stressing the
importance of fostering an environment favorable to
pressing ahead towards a settlement.

In the absence of a comprehensive settlement, the
Secretary-General recommended the extension of
UNFICYP’s mandate for an additional six months, in
spite of recent positive steps.

The UN mission has been in place since 1964 following
the outbreak of inter-communal violence, entrusted
with preventing a recurrence of fighting and
contributing to a return to normal conditions and the
maintenance of law and order, the UN News Center
reports.

Today the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Edward Nalbandyan
mentioned that Armenia is ready to continue the negotiations on the
NKR conflict in line with recommendations which are the results of
OSCE Minsk group and negotiating side activities. "There are certain
recommendations and we should feel willing to continue the negotiations
in line with those recommendations. But Azerbaijan should be ready
to accept the recommendations also," said the minister.

As for some expressions made by Azeri side that there is not such
document, the minister said that the document exists and it is
registered in OSCE and in Vienna. He reminded that Minsk group
co-chairmen handed the package of recommendations to the Foreign
Affairs Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Madrid, where the
Foreign Ministers of Russia, France, USA were also present.

As for the military announcements made by Azeri side the Minister
said that Azeri authorities should not allow such expression as we
should be careful for the upcoming meeting of our presidents.
