American Global Gold Corporation invests $9 million in mining and
exploration sector in Armenia

Yerevan. General investments of Global Gold Corporation (GGC)
in the mining and exploration sector in Armenia from 2004 to the end
of 2006 totaled about $9 million. In 2007, the company has already
invested about $1 million in the sector, GGC Regional Director Ashot
Poghosyan says in an interview with ArmInfo.
"GGC comes out for creation of more favorable situation for ore
recovery and research in Armenia to help the country attract new
companies and develop manpower resources in the sphere," he said.
A. Poghosyan pointed out that about $6 million were invested in
the project of mining at Tukhmanuk gold deposit in Aragatsotn region.
The funds were spent on purchase of equipment for modernization of the
laboratory and on exploration of the reserves of gold and other metals
at Tukhmanuk, Hankavan, Marjan and Getik deposits. For this purpose,
last year the company holed 13,400 metres. A. Poghosyan added that
last year about 40,000 tons of ore were recovered from Tukhmanuk
deposit. However, the ore was not processed, as the plant needs
modernization.
GGC Regional Director said that this year the company has
concentrated efforts on further exploration works in Hankavan,
Marjan and Getik, as well as modernization of the plant and new
laboratory at Tukhmanuk deposit. He explained that the corporation
will start processing the recovered ore after modernizing the
concentrating plant in Tukhmanuk and establishing a flotation
line at the plant. "At present, the plant operates on the
principles of gravitation and needs modernization for more
effective processing. After modernization of the plant, metal
extraction is to be raised from the present 25% to 80%," he said.
A. Poghosyan said that in 2007 the company plans to invest
over $5 million in the mining sector in Armenia. Exploration
works, including boring, will be continued. 4,500 metres are to
be holed at Tukhmanuk deposit. To accelerate boring, two specialized
companies will be attracted. A. Poghosyan believes that boring can
be completed in 4 months at best if the weather is favorable. Ore
reserves at Tukhamanuk deposit will be specified after additional
geologic exploration. In 2007 the company started constructing a
tailing dump in Tukhmanuk. "All these works are to be completed by
autumn of 2007," he said. The results of last year’s explorations
are currently specified. Last year, almost all the laboratories in
the country were engaged in orders of GGC. They received 10,000
samples, 500 of them are still processed. The processing of each
sample costs the company 6,000 drams. Modernization of own
laboratory will allow saving funds and have own analytical center
for samples from other deposits of GGC.
He also added that in 2007 the company will continue exploring
Hankavan molybdenum deposit and its peripheries. GGC has also
acquired an up-to-date installation for cutting to accelerate
exploration works. The company attaches great attention to
improvement of exploration phases and ecology before starting
industrial stages of mining and processing, Poghosyan said. The
program on exploitation of Hankavan deposit for over $50 million
has already been submitted to the Armenian Government. Exploration
of Getik ore field in Gegharkunik region and Marjan gold and
polymetallic deposit in Syunik region continues, he said. However,
weather holds the company from exploring the deposits in Getik and
Marjan so far. At the end of 2007 the company will complete the
phases of preliminary exploration on these deposits, Ashot
Poghosyan said.

TEHRAN: Rustam And Sohrab In Czech Rep.

RUSTAM AND SOHRAB IN CZECH REP.
Rustam and Suhrab by Behrouz Gharibpour

PRESS TV, Iran
May 23 2007

A puppet opera rendition of Ferdowsi’s tragedy Rustam and Sohrab by
an Iranian playwright is to be staged in the Czech Republic.

Directed by Behrouz Gharibpour, the innovative play will be performed
at the closing ceremony of the 11th World Festival of Puppet Art
in Prague.

Rustam and Sohrab is based on a story from the Shahnameh, or Epic of
Kings, which was composed in the 10th century by the great Iranian
poet Ferdowsi.

Gharibpour describes the performance style of his drama as a
combination of marionettes and shadow puppets.

He also announced his repertoire of puppet operas – Rustam and Sohrab,
Macbeth and Leili and Majnoun – will be performed in the near future
with the support of the Roudaki Art and Culture Foundation as well
as the Dramatic Arts General Office.

One hundred puppets and 15 puppeteers will be used in the performance
of Rustam and Sohrab. The work’s composer, Armenian-Iranian Loris
Tjeknavorian, will conduct the music.

Russia Should Be Seriously Engaged In Protection Of Its Interests In

RUSSIA SHOULD BE SERIOUSLY ENGAGED IN PROTECTION OF ITS INTERESTS IN ARMENIA, RF DEPUTY K. ZATULIN SAYS

Noyan Tapan
May 22 2007

YEREVAN, MAY 22, NOYAN TAPAN. Member of RF State Duma, Director
of Institute of CIS Countries, Konstantin Zatulin considers that
the parliamentary elections held in Armenia introduced certainty
not only in the issue of distribution of seats in the new staff of
the National Assembly, but also in the issue of successor of Robert
Kocharian leaving his post in 2008 and in continuation of his business.

In the article published on May 12 in the Izvestia Russian daily
K. Zatulin expressed an opinion that by creating the Bargavach Hayastan
(Prosperous Armenia) Party on his own initiative in 2006, R. Kocharian
had decided at least to insure himself if he decided to change the
main horse of the power coach and pretended to remain, for instance,
in the role of the Prime Minister after leaving President’s post. "If
the maximum program of the leaving President was this, the elections
showed that the voter did not appreciate it," K. Zatulin wrote
adding that as a result of the elections S. Sargsian secured Prime
Minister’s post and the unquestionable right of the main candidate at
the forthcoming presidential elections. As K. Zatulin estimated, all
this became possible because one problem was solved perfectly, that is,
to move voters’ attention from struggle between power and opposition
to competition inside the power camp, so to leave the sharpest critics
of power outside the future parliament, on the side of political life.

In the words of the Director of Institute of CIS Countries, the past
parliamentary elections in Armenis should draw Russia’s attention
because during the election campaign for the first time over the recent
years the issue of Armenia’s attitude to Russia, the issue of limits
and abilities of Armenia’s cooperation with Russia and the West was
discussed. "It seems there are no grounds for anxiety. But indeed
there are such," K. Zatulin said. In his words, it has become clear
that pursuing their own interests, Russia and Armenia cannot live
with their old luggage, toasts to Russian-Armenian friendship are
not enough, the relations between the peoples and the states do not
result in Presidents’ unoffical meetings. "If Russia’s interests in
the Caucasus do not come to an end on the state border, it is time for
us to be seriously engaged in them in Armenia," K. Zatulin concluded.

Azerbaijan, Baku / Òrend corr S. Ilhamgizi / Armenia’s non-constructive
position in peace talks meets the interests of only a particular
group in the country according to Araz Azimov, Azerbaijani Deputy
Foreign Minister; the Azerbaijani President’s personal representative
was speaking on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict on 16 May. Azimov
urged Armenian society to think over how its actions affect its

particular group of people are satisfied with Armenia’s approach to
the peace talks but not all of its public is content. Mr. Azimov
added that Armenia had not benefited in any way from the war with
Azerbaijan and the occupation of Azerbaijani territories.

The peace talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia should be continued
within the framework of the Prague Process, Azimov said. As to the
statements on the negotiations made by the US Co-Chairman of the OSCE
Minsk Group, Mathew Bryze, Azimov said that the statements reflect
the interests of the United States. Mr. Bryze’s statements are an
attempt on behalf of the Minsk Group to inform the rest of the world
of the conflict.

As to the statements by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on secret
details of the peace negotiations, Azimov stated they would not
negatively affect the settlement of the Karabakh problem. "President
Aliyev will, in a principal way and in proper time, clarify his
position. From this point his statement will not negatively affect
the negotiation process," he noted.
