I want to once again express confidence that your visit to Armenia will enrich the agenda of our relations and cooperation in political, economic and humanitarian spheres since in fact we need this, and it derives from the interests of our peoples. Yesterday you visited the Parliament, today you will meet the Prime Minister of Armenia, in other words, there is a chance to hold talks on all issues.

Of course, we have a lot in common both in bilateral relations and aspirations of our peoples, as well as in our personal aspirations, and we will reach success through cooperation. Yesterday we had many effective talks with the leadership of the Parliament and lawmakers. We agreed to propose an initiative, and we will invite Armenian MPs, who will work in the inter-parliamentary friendship group, to Moldova. I hope this will happen in the upcoming months. We have also discussed other issues relating to cooperation of our countries. I once again want to thank for the invitation.

Azerbaijani press: Top Azerbaijani official slams Sargsyan’s approach to Karabakh talks

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan agreed with the statement that was meant to be declared after his recent meeting with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, but right after the meeting he uttered the very first thing that came to his mind, Novruz Mammadov, assistant to the president for foreign policy issues, head of department, told reporters in Baku on October 23.

Mammadov said that Sargsyan voiced ideas that were incompatible with the spirit of the meeting.

Azerbaijani president, other officials responded to the Armenian president, noted the official.

“Sargsyan promised in front of the co-chairs that he agrees to bring the concrete ideas to the world community after the meeting, but after the meeting, he acts hypocritically and speaks otherwise,” said the top official.

“If the Armenian president did not agree with the statement, he could have said so during the meeting. He should’ve said that following the meeting, he would be speaking anything that comes to his mind,” Mammadov said.

“In this case, how will the Armenian people trust him? How will he ensure the development and welfare of his people? What do the co-chairs think about the president who promises and then takes a different step?! If you have a status as head of state, you can’t be hypocritical and lie.”

The Armenian people are in a a tough situation due to such leaders, said Mammadov.

“Armenians are leaving their country. Only 2.5 million people live in Armenia today. According to forecasts, if this situation continues, the population will not exceed 2.5 million people in 20 years,” he noted adding that meanwhile, Azerbaijan’s population has increased by three million people since the country gained its independence.

Azerbaijani Press: FM: Turkey took necessary measures on persons who illegally visited Karabakh

Azernews, Azerbaijan
Oct 20 2017

By Rashid Shirinov

Appropriate steps have been taken in relation to four citizens of Turkey who violated the Azerbaijani border and illegally visited Nagorno-Karabakh.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said this in his interview with Report on October 19.

He reminded that without informing the Foreign Ministry of Turkey, these persons illegally visited the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.

“Naturally, we gave relevant warning to these people and took appropriate steps. Also we have prepared and spread a general warning on not visiting the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh region in future without the permission of the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan,” the minister said.

He added that Turkey has always maintained sensitivity on this issue.

“No Turk should visit the Nagorno-Karabakh region which is under occupation. An issue sensitive for Azerbaijan is sensitive for us too. As the late President Heydar Aliyev said, we are ‘one nation, and two states,’ and if we say ‘the joy of Azerbaijan is our joy, the sorrow of Azerbaijan is our sorrow’, then our approach to what is happening should be univocal,” Cavusoglu noted.

Being without documents and not getting any consent from relevant executive authorities, four Turks Ufuk Uras, Ali Bayramoglu, Said Cekinoglu and Erol Katircioglu illegally crossed the internationally recognized borders of Azerbaijan on September 22. The Grave Crimes Investigation Department of Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General’s Office filed a criminal case under Criminal Code’s Article 318.2 (illegally crossing Azerbaijan’s state borders) against them.

The Turkish citizens deliberately traveled from territory of Armenia and illegally arrived in occupied Khankendi and other settlements of the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. They were declared in the international wanted list. Azerbaijan also sent an appeal to the Turkish law enforcement agencies in order to detain the four citizens.

Baku has repeatedly warned foreign officials and diplomats of illegality of visits to its territories that are occupied by Armenia, calling them contradictory to international law. The work is constantly carried out to prevent such illegal actions.
