Prosperous Armenia MP critical of ruling party rep

Vahan Babayan, an MP of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), has
responded to the statements Khosrov Harutyunyan, an MP of the ruling
Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), made in an interview with the
Aravot newspaper.

In his interview, Kh. Harutyunyan was critical of Naira Zohrabyan,
Secretary of the PAP parliamentary group, who spoke of the group’s
non-participation in the parliamentary debate on Armenia’s state
budget.

`The PAP is not yet a full-fledged party, and I do not want any splits
within it. The PAP is critical of all the governments Armenia has had
since 2008. However, the Control Chamber’s reports say that the
ministries headed by PAP members were the most corrupt and full of
abusive practices – ministries of urban development, health and social
affairs,’ Harutyunyan said in his interview.

`Khosrov Harutyunyan is the world’s only premier that was critical of
his own program under Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s presidency. He was
Armenia’s only premier to resign because he grossly violated human and
political ethics,’ Babayan’s statement says.

`Oskanian was critical and was understood. Oskanian was not [part of
the coalition government], but you joined his criticism. Whom are you
putting down as a fool? How can you speak of failed policy and
responsibility when you held the key posts?’ said Harutyunyan.

Kh. Harutyunyan is not a person that has the right to publicly voice
his opinion of the PAP, Babayan said. To substantiate, he referred to
a letter Kh. Harutyunyan wrote years ago.

According to Babayan, that letter was addressed to the then Prosecutor
General of Armenia V. Nazaryan. That letter contained information
against the Karabakh movement and its active members.

`That letter was written at when the Armenian people took to the
streets and the best sons of the people went to defend the homeland,’
Babayan said.

Summing up, he said that a couple of such episodes in an individual’s
life are enough to `sink into oblivion.’
Talking to Tert.am, Kh. Harutyunyan said that he has no idea of any
letter. `I have just heard about it from you for the first time.’

Mike Gatto Distributes Campaign Material Bearing Illegitimate Endorsement

Southern California Armenian Democrats

GLENDALE – On Wednesday, October 17 the Southern California Armenian
Democrats (SCAD) was notified that Assemblymember Mike Gatto, who is
running for reelection in the 43rd district, mailed campaign
literature to voters bearing the illegitimate endorsement of SCAD.

`During the May 17, 2012 meeting of SCAD, the organization unanimously
voted not to endorse Assemblymember Mike Gatto given his track record
on issues of importance to the Armenian-American community,’ stated
Armond Aghakhanian, SCAD President. `We trust that Assemblymember
Gatto will take immediate action to remedy the falsification of
endorsements sent by his campaign,’ added Aghakhanian.

The campaign literature, which was mailed to Armenian-American voters
in the district, also states that Caro Avanessian, the Chair of the
California Armenian American Democrats (CAAD), is making the
endorsement on behalf of SCAD.

`It may be that Mr. Avanessian has given his personal endorsement to
Assemblymember Gatto, which has led to this misrepresentation,’ noted
SCAD Vice President, David Gevorkyan. `As a member of the SCAD I can
attest that Mr. Avanessian does not hold membership with SCAD and as a
member of CAAD I can also report that during the October 14, 2012
meeting of CAAD, the membership requested that endorsement decisions
follow the organization’s bylaws and be put to a vote at a general
meeting to be scheduled for a later date,’ added Gevorkyan.

It is among SCAD’s objectives to ensure fairness, transparency, and
honesty in all political proceedings.. A letter addressing this
concern has been sent to Assemblymember Mike Gatto insisting that
corrective action be taken in the form of a mailer apologizing for
this inappropriate action and reaffirming that SCAD made no such
endorsement.

Although it focuses its efforts within Southern California, its base
of over 400 active members makes SCAD one of the largest Democratic
organizations in Los Angeles County, and is the largest
Armenian-American Democratic organization in the State of California.
As the premier Democratic organization of Armenian-Americans, the
organization believes in upholding the integrity and value of the
democratic election process.

Safarov Helped Gurgen’s Brother?

SAFAROV HELPED GURGEN’S BROTHER?

Story from Lragir.am News:

Published: 16:29:24 – 19/10/2012

An unexpected turn was happened in Vahram Margaryan’s trial, who is
the brother of Gurgen Margaryan, the Armenian officer axed in Budapest
by Safarov. Vahram Margaryan is accused of murder on Zakyan Street. On
October 19 accuser Armen Afandyan presented a motion to the court to
go back to the investigation.

The prosecutor changed the accusation against Vahram Margaryan. Now,
he is not accused of possession of illegal weapons and murder but
only possession of illegal weapons.

It is noteworthy that the press reported a couple of days ago that
Serzh Sargsyan instructed the law enforcers to immediately release
Vahram Margaryan.

Lawyers aware of Vahram Margaryan’s case think the accusation is
wrong. In this sense, it is good if wrongly accused Margaryan is
in freedom.

The interesting is what would happen if Hungary didn’t extradite
the killer and Aliyev didn’t pardon him. Would the Armenian power
pay attention to the case of the brother of the Armenian officer
killed by the Azeri, or whether Vahram Margaryan would be freed if
Safarov wasn’t?

But the Armenian authorities should not consider their task done.

Margaryan’s family is in socially and psychologically hard condition.

It is necessary to help them overcome the difficulties also to prove
people don’t have value in Armenia only when it pursues demonstrative
goals.
