MEGHRI, JANUARY 23, ARMENPRESS. The development of transport
infrastructures and new ways of communications with the external
markets are of a certain importance for the Republic of Armenia in
conditions of the illegal blockade. Presidential candidate, Republican
Party of Armenia leader Serzh Sargsyan stated this during the meeting

to Meghri within the framework of the election campaign. As reports
“Armenpress” the presidential candidate stated that the North-South
Road construction is considered to end in 2017.

Among other things the presidential candidate spoke about the
Armenian-Iranian railway, which is of a strategic importance for the
both countries. Serzh Sargsyan highlighted: “Tremendous preparatory
activity is necessary for the realization of such a vast project
itself. During this period we were actively engaged in pushing
forward such a project, which is of a high significance for us from
both transport and strategic economic point of view. Due to this we
shall provide the foundations for realization of our mega-projects.”

Also Serzh Sargsyan expressed his gratitude to fraternal Iran for the
amicable attitude towards the joint projects and ideas, as well as
the efficient cooperation, which are aimed to the development of the

Armenian Ethnographer Sees No Priority Targets In Election Programs

ARMENIAN ETHNOGRAPHER SEES NO PRIORITY TARGETS IN ELECTION PROGRAMS

TERT.AM

Ethnographer Hranush Kharatyan studied the presidential candidates’
programs and did not find the solutions to the most acute problems
the candidates are promising.

Also, Armenia has no “number one problem.” Rather, all the problems
are urgent – the emigration, social situation, corruption, distrust
of the judicial power, and so on.

“I do not see any priority target on the presidential election agenda.

Even if I can see it in the incumbent president’s program, I do not
believe. I do not believe that Armenia’s president will create a just
judicial system and legal relations because he has shown the opposite
during his presidency,” Ms Kharatyan said.

As regards public sentiments, she pointed out indifference as the
major factor. Mr Kharatyan noted that people that do not use their
“contacts” or do not have them mostly emigrate from Armenia. That is,
the number of voters with “contacts” is actually increasing, which
prove decisive during the election.

“The last year has clearly shown the picture. Society laughed rather
than was insulted when, early last December, they said, ‘just a couple
of days and we will tell you if we are going to have a candidate’,”
Ms Kharatyan said.

ETHNIC ARMENIAN SOLDIER AMONG KIDNAPPED ARMY SOLDIERS IN SYRIA (VIDEO)

An ethnic Armenian soldier has been among the pro-governmental army
soldiers and generals kidnapped in Syria.

The rebel forces have released a video that shows the kidnapped
raising their hands and introducing themselves, saying their name
and position. Among them is army soldier Hakob Tujian.

The rebels said they are going to interrogate the soldiers and release
those who are innocent.

The clashes between the pro-governmental forces and opposition
rebels continue in Syria. This night was comparatively calm in
Armenian-populated districts of Aleppo but due to electricity problems
the whole city was in darkness all night. During the recent days the
cold weather has become milder but still there is no fuel in the city.

LE DIOCESE DE FRANCE DE L’EGLISE ARMENIENNE PARTICIPE A LA SEMAINE DE PRIERE POUR L’UNITE DES CHRETIENS
Stephane

mercredi 23 janvier 2013

premiers immigrants chretiens venus d’Asie mineure.

Amen.

President Candidate Speaks Of ‘Real And False Struggle’ In Armenia P

PRESIDENT CANDIDATE SPEAKS OF ‘REAL AND FALSE STRUGGLE’ IN ARMENIA PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

tert.am
23.01.13

Andrias Ghukasyan, one of the presidential candidates, who has been on
a hunger-strike for two days, cannot make any comments on the sincerity
and aims of the other presidential candidates – Aram Harutyunyan and
Arman Melikyan – who withdrew from the election campaign.

“I think I, as well as the public, need time for that. Time will show,”
he told Tert.am.

Mr Ghukasyan has three demands: all the presidential candidates must
withdraw from the election campaign for Armenian President Serzh
Sargsyan to remain alone; the Central Electoral Commission (CEC)
of Armenia must invalidate Serzh Sargsyan’s registration; OSCE/ODIHR
observers must not conduct monitoring in Armenia.

With respect to Facebook comments on his hunger-strike, Mr Ghukasyan
said: “Obviously, people are somewhat cynical about political figures’
steps. However, public response is predictable, and the public can
differentiate real struggle from imitation,” Mr Ghukasyan said.

OSCE/ODIHR observers have not yet visited Mr Ghukasyan, which is not
a surprise for him.

“I am not conducting an election campaign,” he said. Mr Ghukasyan
noted that he does not want them to visit him.
