LEVON TER-PETROSYAN’S STATEMENT ON NECESSITY OF BOURGEOIS-DEMOCRATIC REVOLUTION IN ARMENIA IS POLITICAL SPECULATION – MP

19:29 22/04/2013 ” POLITICS

The statements of some politicians on the necessity of a
bourgeois-democratic revolution in Armenia are ungrounded because there
are no historical regularities in Armenia which are peculiar to such
revolutions – there are conclusions resulting from historiographic
speculations based on one factor, MP Samvel Farmanyan told a news
conference today when asked about the possibility of such revolution
in Armenia.

The constituent congress of Armenian National Congress (ANC) party
took place at Yerevan’s Sports and Concerts Complex on April 13. Levon
Ter-Petrosyan, who was elected chairman of ANC, said in his remarks
that it is necessary to carry out a bourgeois-democratic revolution
in Armenia.

According to Farmanyan, this statement by Levon Ter-Petrosyan is
motivated by his excessive confidence in his knowledge of history
and willingness to substantiate everything.

The MP thinks that from historical point of view it would be more
topical to talk about, for instance, a socialist revolution in
Armenia. “But no one talks about it because no political force has so
far managed to express the interests of the socially insecure stratum.”

KNESSET TO HOLD DISCUSSION OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

April 22, 2013 – 16:15 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – On April 23, Knesset will hold a discussion of the
official recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

Spokesman of Ararat Union of Armenians of Israel Mendel Korsunsky
told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter that the issue was on Knesset’s annual
agenda for the past five years due to pro-Armenian MPs.

“However, the Israeli government has so far failed to officially
recognize the Armenian Genocide. The union calls on everyone who put
morality above political interests to participate in April 24 action
to protest the denial of the Armenian Genocide,” Mr Korsunsky said.

COMMEMORATION EVENTS TO TAKE PLACE ACROSS CANADA TO MARK THE 98TH ANNIVERSARY OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

15:49, 22 April, 2013

YEREVAN, APRIL 22, ARMENPRESS: The Armenian National Committee of
Canada (ANCC) today announced the complete list of remembrance events
that will be taking place over the next six days across Canada to
commemorate the 98th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide perpetrated
by the Ottoman Turks at the beginning of the last century. As reports
Armenpress referring to ANCC, commemoration events organized by the
ANCC, its local chapters, and affiliated organizations will be taking
place in Montreal and Laval, Ottawa, Toronto, Cambridge, Hamilton,
Saint Catherines, and Vancouver.

To this day, the Republic of Turkey (the legal successors of
the Ottoman Empire) continues to actively deny that the Armenian
Genocide ever took place despite overwhelming historical and academic
evidence attesting to the Ottoman Empire’s systematic campaign of
ethnic-cleansing against Armenians from centuries-old Armenian lands.

“Every April 24th, Armenian-Canadians and Armenians throughout the
world remember the horrendous acts of genocide perpetrated by the
Ottoman Turks against its indigenous Armenian population,” remarked
Dr. Girair Basmadjian, president of the ANCC. “We also commemorate
the resilience of the survivors of the genocide, and the collective
strength of character of the Armenian people to not become a footnote
in History.”

Canada has officially recognized the Armenian Genocide in the House
of Commons (2004), the Senate of Canada (2002), and by the government
of Canada (since 2006). The provinces of Quebec, Ontario, and British
Columbia as well as the City of Montreal and the City of Toronto have
passed legislation or resolutions recognizing the Armenian Genocide.

Recently, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights has unequivocally stated
that the Armenian Genocide will have a permanent exhibit in the museum.

“It is unfortunate that the government of Turkey continues to actively
embark upon campaigns of misinformation, political blackmail, and
denial,” stated Dr. Basmadjian, “Such denials and misinformation
campaigns make Turkey look small and immature as a nation. Especially
in Canada, where informed politicians and academics follow facts and
truth. Canadians know better.”

Raffi Hovannisian Is For Having Citizen Protecting Policeman And Not

RAFFI HOVANNISIAN IS FOR HAVING CITIZEN PROTECTING POLICEMAN AND NOT SLAVE POLICEMAN

13:45 ~U 22.04.13

Heritage party leader Raffi Hovannisian came to the Special
Investigation Service together with party activists to support deputy
leader of the party Armen Martirosyan invited to the SIS in connection
with April 9 incident with a policeman on Baghramyan Ave.

Speaking to reporters in front of the building of Prosecutor General
office, Hovannisian said their aim is to have a policeman serving
for the citizens and not being a slave policeman.

He said they are demanding from ‘de facto’ authorities to subject to
responsibility those who gave orders to policemen on April 9 and the
policemen who used force against a citizen.

“The double violence against Armen Martirosyan impedes the
constitutional right of Barev Yerevan alliance’s activity. We have come
to demand punishment of each violator be it a policeman, a commander,”
he said.

Armenian Commission For Economic Competition Is Empowered To Penaliz

ARMENIAN COMMISSION FOR ECONOMIC COMPETITION IS EMPOWERED TO PENALIZE FOREIGN AIRLINE COMPANIES – COMMISSION CHIEF

April 22, 2013 | 13:53

YEREVAN. – If competition problems are revealed in Armenia’s aviation
sector, the guilty party will be held accountable regardless of
whether or not they are residents of the country. Chairman Artak
Shaboyan of the Armenian State Commission for the Protection of
Economic Competition (ASCPEC) told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In his words, the foreign companies that conduct activities in Armenia
are obligated to observe the requirements of the country’s laws.

“If problems arise while the accountability is applied, we will
collaborate with our colleagues in the respective country,” Shaboyan
stated.

The ASCPEC chief also noted that the commission is conducting a study
on competition problems in the aviation sector, and the results will
be submitted to the Government of Armenia in about one month.

As for the recent hikes in the prices of airplane tickets being
purchased for flights to and from Armenia, Artak Shaboyan said they
are collaborating with the Government-Affiliated General Department
of Civil Aviation and, according to the latter’s information,
the ticket prices have returned to the level prior to when Armavia
Airline Company-which is Armenia’s national carrier-had stopped its
operations on April 1.

Politician Reveals Reason Why Armenia’s First President Did Not Run

POLITICIAN REVEALS REASON WHY ARMENIA’S FIRST PRESIDENT DID NOT RUN IN PRESIDENTIAL VOTE

April 22, 2013 | 12:20

YEREVAN. – Armenia’s First President, opposition Armenian National
Congress (ANC) Party Chairman, Levon Ter-Petrosyan did not run in
the recent presidential election because of the lack of money. Gurgen
Yeghiazaryan, a member of the opposition wing of the Social-Democratic
Hnchakyan Party (SDHP), stated this during a press conference on
Monday.

To the remark that Ter-Petrosyan was pointing to his advanced age as
to the reason for his not running in the vote, Yeghiazaryan responded
that this was said for a few people that would believe in this, but the
ANC leader also had stated, “[for] several other technical reasons.”

“I am proud that we are dealing with a founding President who has
not plundered our country,” Yeghiazaryan added.

He noted that they did not have money during last year’s parliamentary
election, too, and that is why it was held under bad conditions.

“Under these conditions, should Levon Ter-Petrosyan have entered into
the race without money?” the opposition politician asked.

Gurgen Yeghiazaryan stressed that Levon Ter-Petrosyan is Armenia’s
sole political figure that could change something in the country and,
as per Yeghiazaryan, it is very bad that he is the only such person.

In his view, this situation will continue forever unless the people
of Armenia come together and make a choice, and therefore the people
should consolidate in the forthcoming Yerevan Council elections.

Gurgen Yeghiazaryan said the first thing to do is to be rid of the
current authorities, conduct a new election, and if President Serzh
Sargsyan were to be reelected, he should leave politics and apologize
to the people.

Justice Would Boost Repatriation To Armenia – Activist

JUSTICE WOULD BOOST REPATRIATION TO ARMENIA – ACTIVIST

13:30 ~U 22.04.13

Sargis Hatspanyan, a French-Armenian activist and a hero of the
Nagorno-Karabakh war, attributes the high rate of emigration to the
existing social injustice in Armenia.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, he said rarely any migrant would
cite economic conditions as a cause for leaving the country forever.

“The Armenian nation has not managed to form a government since 1991,
despite having a desire. The problem in Armenia is that of a lord and
offsprings; the lord never has a parental attitude to his children,
the nation,” said Hatspanyan, who has been residing in Armenia for
24 years.

“The authorities do not love this land, Artsakh, Armenia and the
people. If they loved, they wouldn’t let them go away. Were there
justice at all, people wouldn’t go; they would return in thousands
instead,” he said.

The activist noted that the Diaspora-Armenians, who have ever made
investments in the country, are now unwilling to even send a tourist
to Armenia.

He called for the Diaspora Ministry’s efforts to organize the
immigration of Armenians to their home country.

“Even in the period of the Syria events, the immigrants’ number has
been so little that it isn’t even something to be discussed. People
say they are ready to return once the things get on a normal track
in Syria,” he said, noting that none of the 60,000 Armenians in Iraq
came to Armenia when the country was facing a war.
