Turquie : Le Rouge a Luvre Banni Pour Les Hetesses, Polemique

TURQUIE : LE ROUGE A LUVRE BANNI POUR LES HETESSES, POLEMIQUE

(AFP) – La compagnie nationale turque Turkish Airlines (THY)a decide

ANKARA: Is 1915 Genocide Or What?

IS 1915 GENOCIDE OR WHAT?

Today’s Zaman, Turkey
May 1 2013

MARKAR ESAYAN
[email protected]

I intend to put an end to the 1915 matter for now with one last article.

Whenever I attempt to write an article about this issue, I try to
elaborate on the human aspects of the matter and explain the wrong
done by the greater policies. As a matter of fact, while the 1915
tragedy is being discussed as a historical incident, it is actually a
matter that affects our time. Therefore, the failure to solve it stems
from a mentality that has survived up to our time. Having seen the
fact that this mentality is currently in decline, I nurture higher
hopes about the future.

I believe the debate over whether the 1915 incidents amount to
genocide poses an obstacle for those who seek to understand the matter
from the perspective of Turkey. I have written about this idea of mine
countless times. The Genocide Convention, adopted by the United
Nations in 1948, also ratified by Turkey, sets forth the following
criteria for defining genocide:

“(a) Killing members of the group; (b) Causing serious bodily or
mental harm to members of the group; (c) Deliberately inflicting on
the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical
destruction in whole or in part; (d) Imposing measures intended to
prevent births within the group; (e) Forcibly transferring children of
the group to another group.”

For any action to be defined as genocide, these conditions need not be
met. Any person who can take a look at the 1915 incidents can see if
these incidents fall under these articles. I think it would be more
rational for those who do not want the 1915 incidents to be labeled as
genocide to try to modify the Genocide Convention than to argue that
these incidents do not fall within the ambit of these articles.

I feel uneasy as I write down the last paragraph. The
is-1915-genocide-or-not debate leaves the remaining joint efforts out
in the cold. We cannot settle this problem departing from this debate.

Moreover, this would be an act of irreverence against the dead. As a
person who is the grandson of a family half of whose members died in
1915, I see this debate as unfairness done to this sorrow. While it is
a profound piece of 98-year experience and a piece of knowledge
ingrained on the identity, 1915 is still perceived by the people of
Turkey in compliance with the narrative injected by the official
ideology.

In other words, Turkey still does not know what really happened in
1915. For an Armenian, it would be more ethical to try to ensure that
sorrows are acknowledged and respected instead of trying to take
revenge, and to open up venues for dialogue by refraining from
declaring a nation genocidal.

True, the Armenian nation suffered from a great destruction in 1915.

But that was not all. Inheriting the poisonous heritage of the
Community of Union and Progress (CUP), the newly established Turkish
Republic adopted a hostile attitude toward the surviving non-Muslim
minorities and their cultural heritage. Can we offer another
explanation to the fact that only 50,000 Armenians now live in the
country?

Unfortunately, this ideological perversion adopted the same stance in
the face of Kurds, Alevis and Muslims, though to a lesser extent.

Great sorrows were suffered. Today, Turkey is trying to get rid of
this poisonous ideology. But you cannot rehabilitate the 90-year state
mentality in a few days. Still, Turkey is changing at a dazzling pace.

Today’s Turkey and what it was 10 years ago are as different from each
other as white is from black, in a positive sense. This change is
being driven by the demands for reforms voiced by Muslims.

Onlookers may fail to understand it. Or they may say: “We have been
living with this problem for 98 years, and we have serious advantages
over Turkey. We can corner Turkey and impose our version of the
solution.” But will this really be a solution? Will Armenians really
attain serenity if they don’t mourn for their losses together with the
grandchildren of their Turkish and Kurdish neighbors? I think not.

It is time Armenians and the people of Turkey make a new start.

"RPA Presents Itself With Loud-Voiced Women"

“RPA presents itself with loud-voiced women”

“Rule of Law” party says once again: it takes part in the Yerevan
Elders Council elections with determination to win.

“Our meetings with common citizens give us that hope”, says Hovhannes
Hovhannisyan. He adds, that “Rule of Law” has always been for fair
elections.

Hovhannes Hovhannisyan states, that there are equal conditions for
political forces for realizing their campaigns. “Rule of Law” sees
a positive change comparing with previous elections, and negative
phenomena are responded appropriately by this party.

Artur Yeghiazaryan from ARF has the opposite opinion: the conditions
are not equal. According to him, all the cooperatives, schools and
other institutions serve for RPA.

“Only the fact, that the Mayor uses administrative resources means
that conditions for campaigns are unequal. Opposition representatives
have also been hindered while meeting with common citizens”. said
the ARF representative.

Avet Poghosyan fom ANC is sure: the process of faking the election
results has already begun. One of the ANC activists has even been
beaten by RPA members. According to Poghosyan, this only speaks about
the weakness of RPA.

“There is a unkempt, loud-voiced woman near every building. This
is the way RPA presents itself. RPA uses its whole arsenal”, said
Avet Poghosyan.

Member of “Barev Yerevan” alliance Daniel Ioanesyan agrees with the
representatives of ANC and ARF that the conditions are not equal. Yet
he reminds that non-authority forces have big advantage, which RPA
is devoid of: people’s support. “Our aim is to show the registration
of that support on May 5”, said Daniel Ioanesyan.

General of Iran Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje’i.

Armenia’s leader expressed hope that the memorandum the Armenian and
Iranian prosecutor generals during Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje’i’s visit
to Armenia will impart a new quality to Armenian-Iranian relations
and promote bilateral cooperation and business ties.

President Serzh Sargsyan noted that Armenian and Iranian top officials’
visits are evidence of the leaders’ determination to consolidate the
bilateral relations.

Armenia attaches high importance to further development of political,
economic, cultural and judicial cooperation with Iran, the Armenian

Armenia’s Ruling Party Has No Supporters In Yerevan – ANC Rep

ARMENIA’S RULING PARTY HAS NO SUPPORTERS IN YEREVAN – ANC REP

18:37 ~U 30.04.13

The Armenian National Congress (ANC) party has started its rally in
Yerevan’s Freedom Square.

ANC leader, Armenia’s first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Vahagn
Khachatryan (who tops the ANC list in the elections to Yerevan’s
Council of Elders) and other members are to speak at the rally.

Speaking at the rally, Vladimir Karapetyan, who is on the ANC list
in the upcoming elections to Yerevan’s Council of Elders, expressed
the confidence that the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA)
will suffer defeat.

“A competent and politically conscious voter cannot vote for a greedy
person that cannot speak his native language. The RPA candidate is
known to be avoiding debates with his rivals. He is phobic about the
moment of explaining the sources of his fortune,” he said.

“Cannot any member of the ruling party explain the sources of an
official’s fortune? No, they cannot because they cannot imagine an
honestly paid official,” Karapetyan said.

“I feel Taron has won in the category ‘the cleverest RPA member with
the cleanest hands.’ He must be the ‘cleanest’ in the ruling party
because he tops its list in the May 5 elections,” Karapetyan said.

He is indignant that the RPA candidate is surrounded by the “Yerevan
crime kingpins.”

Zurabyan Calls For Being A Preacher- Video

ZURABYAN CALLS FOR BEING A PREACHER – VIDEO

08:50 PM | TODAY | POLITICS

The head of the ANC party Levon Zurabyan today announced at the Liberty
Square, “…if some tourist who does not know anything about this
country comes here, he will be greatly surprised”. Then he started
to count all the iniquities which make people suffer.

In particular, he spoke about the activity of RPA. “Well, the guys
from RPA love their country very much, but they love it as property.

Today those who make statements about modesty and patriotism, are
really engaged in plunder and fabrication. It is time to save our
country from desecration”.

Levon Zurabyan stated, that it is important to realize, that there will
be no elections in 4 years after May 5. “If we do not reach radical
changes through these elections or at least do not have necessary
bases for those, our country will be in immigration and political
marsh. It is time to act and today the main problem is indifference”.

He wonders about those statements, according to which Taron Margaryan
has “passed” those elections. “If he has “passed” something, then
those are the limits of ethics”.

Mr. Zurabyan assured, that 20% of Yerevan residents openly support
ANC and are ready to vote for it. “And taking into consideration the
atmosphere of fear, which has been created by the regime in power,
many people just do not say that they support ANC. You must become
preachers. Go and tell people, that they should not be indifferent
and should not lose their hope. If you can unite everyone, then the
victory is inevitable”.

Barev Yerevan Has So Far Registered 50 Violations

BAREV YEREVAN HAS SO FAR REGISTERED 50 VIOLATIONS

13:14 30/04/2013 ” POLITICS

There are the same violations in the campaign for the May 5 municipal
elections as in the February 18 presidential elections, spokesman for
Barev Yerevan bloc of parties, Barev Yerevan’s candidate David
Sanasaryan told reporters on Tuesday.

This is evidence of the fact that representatives of the Republican
Party of Armenia (RPA) themselves do not believe the results of
various surveys saying that RPA will receive the majority of votes at
municipal elections, he said.

Sanasaryan noted that they receive complaints about distribution of
electoral bribes but these people wish to remain anonymous as they
fear giving their names.

Another candidate of Barev Yerevan bloc, Daniel Ioanisyan, for his
part, told reporters that they have so far registered 50 violations.

According to him, representatives of RPA, Prosperous Armenia Party
(PAP) and Orinats Yerkir Party carry out violations. Ioannisyan added
that they have applied to CEC in connection with some of the
violations.

10-12 Citizens Of Iran Serving Sentence In Armenia’s Penitentiaries

10-12 CITIZENS OF IRAN SERVING SENTENCE IN ARMENIA’S PENITENTIARIES – PROSECUTOR GENERAL

April 30, 2013 | 12:17

YEREVAN.- Armenia-Iran cooperation in legal field is more active than
collaboration with our neighbors, Armenia’s Prosecutor General Aghvan
Hovsepyan said.

On Tuesday the prosecutors of Armenia and Iran signed a memorandum on
cooperation. The document envisages cooperation in the fight against
cross-border crime such as drug trafficking, trafficking of people.

The Armenian side files about 20 inquiries a day to the Iranian law
enforcers, Hovsepyan said. At this point 10-12 citizens of Iran are
serving their sentence in Armenia’s penitentiaries.

In 2012 and this year, 25 offenders, citizens of Iran, were transferred
to the Islamic Republic.

“Previously, all these issues were resolved through diplomatic
channels. Now, after the signing of the memorandum, the contacts will
be direct,” Hovsepyan assured.

In this context, he noted increase in number of cases of drugs import
from neighboring countries – Iran and Turkey.

“Iran is holding serious struggle against criminals. Law enforcers are
fighting with the arms in their hands, and, unfortunately, every year
dozens of colleagues are killed at the hands of criminals,” he said.

In his turn, Iranian Attorney General Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei
noted at the moment there are no Armenian convicts (citizens of
Armenia) in the Iranian prisons. Responding to a question about
the punishment envisaged by law in respect of Iranian drug dealers,
he said this depends on the type of drug and the amount, up to the
death penalty. According to him, at present, 44 percent of inmates
in the Iranian prisons are serving sentences for drug trafficking.
