Borussia Defender Marcel Schmelzer Lauds New Arrivals

BORUSSIA DEFENDER MARCEL SCHMELZER LAUDS NEW ARRIVALS

10:03 15.07.2013
Borussia, Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Borussia Dortmund defender Marcel Schmelzer believes the club’s new
signings will prove valuable come the new season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have signed Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Sokratis
Papastathopoulos and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the close-season
as they look to challenge Bayern Munich for the title.

The arrivals come after Mario Goetze left for the Allianz Arena and
Felipe Santana joined Schalke, with the German defender saying all
three additions have integrated well in pre-season.

“I think that during the training we saw that the new guys have great
qualities, if you look at Micky (Mkhitaryan) during training, he has
some incredible movements, also Sokratis in the back is acting as if
he’d been here for a few years already, and also Oba (Aubameyang]
has great qualities,” said Schmelzer, who has been at the club for
the duration of his senior career, soccerway.com reports.

“The new purchases are spot on, and like I’ve said, we are trying
to integrate them into the team as well as we can, of course there
are difficulties with the languages, but we have an interpreter and
will manage somehow, and then at the beginning of the season the
three will have adapted to our philosophy so that we can start the
season successfully.”

As well as bringing playing qualities to the side, Schmelzer
also believes that Mkhitaryan, of Armenia, Greece international
Papastathopoulos and Gabonese Aubameyang have made strides in learning
German and being vocal among team-mates.

“I think Micky is the one that is a bit more direct, he comes up to us,
he is starting to say his first German words, even a few sentences,
and I think it won’t take long for him to speak his sixth language,”
Schmelzer continued.

“It is easier to communicate with Sokratis, through his time at Bremen
he learnt a bit of German and he also speaks English. Oba is a bit,
well I guess shy is the wrong word, more reserved and he is having
a look at the whole thing first. But if all three of them open up,
Micky already has, then I think they are great guys that will fit
into our team.”

Former Saint-Etienne striker Aubameyang spoke in the week about
his delight at signing for Dortmund, describing them as “one of the
greatest clubs in Europe”.

Explorations in Tigranakert have been resumed

Explorations in Tigranakert have been resumed

Friday, 12 July 2013 17:51

The archeological explorations of the ancient town of Tigranakert have
been resumed. As leader of the expedition Hamlet Petrosyan assures the
activities will be carried out in three exploration sites: in the
Reinforced, Central and Ancient districts.

As we suppose the building of the remarkable post office built in the
19th century will be cleaned. We think that there was one more
district between the Reinforced and the Ancient districts which we
must try to find. Some examinations and investigations will be
conducted to find out the exact location of the stone monuments of the
first millennium. The explorations have started quite recently but we
have already found a very interesting thing: a stamp with a record
which is the second in number, in the previous years we found some
seals which proves that the town was of great administrative
importance. The territory of the town is much greater than we think.
And every year we encounter new and pleasant surprises here. During
the explorations we also want to clean the northern part of the early
medieval Christian temple of Gyavur-Kala. We are also working at the
new exhibition programme of the archeological museum of Tigranakert
which is going to include not only Tigranakert but also the
surroundings, Hamlet Petrosyan informed.

Azerbaijani-Armenian front-line remains tense

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council’s four
resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the
surrounding regions which it occupied in 1992.

World Bulletin/News Desk

Armenian Armed Forces fired at Azerbaijani Armed Forces from their
positions near the villages of Shikhlar, Javakhirli of the Agdam
region, Tapgaragoyunlu of the Goranboy region and from positions at
the heights of the Fizuli region, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry
reported on Saturday.

Attacks were suppressed by return fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988
when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since
1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding
districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The
co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France and the U.S. – are
currently holding peace negotiations.

WHO advised Georgia and Azerbaijan to consider Armenia’s experience

WHO advised Georgia and Azerbaijan to consider Armenia’s experience in
fight against measles

15:50, 13 July, 2013

YEREVAN, JULY 13, ARMENPRESS: The Armenian experience in the
preventive works against the spread of the measles has been considered
to be the best during the regional conference of the World Health
Organization (WHO). This was stated by the National Immunization
Program Manager of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of
Armenia Gayane Sahakyan at the press conference held on July 13. `The
measles epidemic situation in Georgia and Azerbaijan is quite
serious. The World Health Organization, concerned about the situation,
held a regional conference in Tbilisi, attended by the representatives
from the health agencies of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey,
as well as the representatives from different international
organizations’, – informed Gayane Sahakyan.

As stated by the National Immunization Program Manager of the Ministry
of Healthcare of the Republic of Armenia, during the conference words
of praise were sound in the address of Armenia for the implementation
of corresponding works to control and effectively prevent the epidemic
situation. `The representatives of the World Health Organization
advised the other countries to study the Armenia’s experience and
learn corresponding lessons’, – said the expert Gayane Sahakyan.

The National Immunization Program Manager of the Ministry of
Healthcare is certain that the country will not have any spread of the
epidemic, as in 2007 a wide program was carried out against the
measles and the population has a high immunity against the
decease. The only concern is the citizens at the age of 35 and higher,
who could get infected. `We will continue the prevention works with
the same pace so that the new wave of the decease does not threat
Armenia’, – assured Gayane Sahakyan.

Nationality is of no importance at international film festivals –
Golden Apricot Festival director

16:40 – 13.07.13

Nationality is of no importance at some international film festivals.
Rather, films themselves are of importance. Armenians have the moral
strength to screen Azerbaijani and Turkish films, Harutyun
Khachatryan, Founding Director of the GOLDEN APRICOT festival, told
Tert.am as he spoke of the film `The Swing of the Coffin Maker’ by the
Azerbaijani film-maker Elmar Imanov, which was screened at Yerevan’s
Moscow cinema as part of the GOLDEN APRICOT Yerevan 10th International
Film Festival.

There must not be any discrimination because `it is our generous
spirit and desire of our hearts.’

`If Armenia is hosting an international festival should it be afraid
of screening Azerbaijani films?’ said Khachatryan.

`If we are an international festival we must screen Azerbaijani and
Turkish films because art is among our strongest weapons,’ he added.

Speaking of the quality of art, Khachatryan expressed his concern,
saying, `If we prove unable to protect our reputation, we will fail.’
Speaking of the Azerbaijani film, he said, `It is a good film. We must
show such films to show our strength.’

Anahit Ordyan, Spokeswoman for the Golden Apricot Festival, said that
Elmar Imanov has not arrived in Armenia.

`I know the film has been appreciated as a feature film,’ she said as
she commented on mass media response to the film.

Sahin hails Dortmund’s Mkhitaryan as new ‘Kagawa’

(AFP) – 10 hours ago

BERLIN – Turkey midfielder Nuri Sahin has dubbed Borussia Dortmund’s
new-signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan as the Champion League finalists’ “new
Shinji Kagawa” as the Armenian continues to impress.

Kagawa became a club icon by helping Borussia win back-to-back
Bundesliga titles in 2010-11 and 2011-12 before moving to Manchester
United last year.

Mkhitaryan has impressed in his two friendly matches since joining
Dortmund from Shakhtar Donetsk last week for 27.5m euros, (US$36m)
both on his debut in Wednesday’s 3-1 win at FC Basel, then Saturday’s
4-1 win over Turkey’s Buraspor.

“Honestly, he reminds me of Shinji Kagawa,” said ex-Real Madrid
midfielder Sahin after Saturday’s win in Altach, Austria, near
Dortmund’s training camp.

“I think he’s even a bit quicker than Shinji.

“We have a lot of quality in attack.”

Having finished second to Bayern Munich in both the Bundesliga and
Champions League last season, Dortmund and their Bavarian rivals could
meet next weekend in a pre-season tournament at Borussia
Moenchengladbach.

The rivals then meet in the German Super Cup final on July 27 in
Dortmund and Borussia are eager to integrate their new signings in
preparation.

“Mickey”, as Mkhitaryan has been nicknamed, scored against Basel and
the central midfielder was in the heart of Dortmund’s attack as fellow
new-signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also scored against Turkey’s
Buraspor.

Poland striker Robert Lewandowski and Germany’s Marco Reus also got on
the score sheet as the Turkish league side also conceded an own goal.

Having lost Germany midfielder Mario Goetze to European champions
Bayern Munich, Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp said he was happy with
Mkhitaryan’s bright start before the Bundesliga starts on August 9.

“We already suspected that Henrikh has the qualities to set up chances
in key moments like he did,” enthused Klopp.

Dortmund’s other new addition Sokratis also impressed against the
Turks as the centre-back looked calm and composed next to Serbia’s
Neven Subotic against the Turkish side.

Driver responsible for deadly accident had record of traffic offences

MOSCOW. July 13

The truck driver reportedly responsible for Saturday’s deadly traffic
accident south of Moscow, had a record of administrative offenses for
violating traffic rules, said Moscow’s vice mayor, Pyotr Biryukov.

“The truck was steered by an Armenian citizen, aged 46. He has six
entries on his record of administrative offences for violating traffic
rules. Police are investigating. He is being questioned,” Biryukov
said in a conference call at the Emergency Situations Ministry on
Saturday.

The truck driver ploughed into a bus which was in roadworthy condition
and had a GLONASS navigator.

The bus driver is a resident of Bryansk, aged 37, who has been driving
motor vehicles since 1995 and has a valid driving license,” Biryukov
said.

COMMUNIQUÉ

10 juillet 2013

Chers paroissiens, chers compatriotes, chers coreligionnaires,
