Heritage Party Vice Chairman Armen Martirosyan refrains from making
detailed comment on Heritage Paryt Leader Raffi Hovannisian’s meeting
with Gagik Tsarukyan, Leader of Prosperous Armenia Party, as
discussions on many issues are continued so far.

The two party leaders met on 14 March to discuss the political
situation in Armenia and the way to make changes in the country
through consolidation of broad layers of the population and political
forces. The sides agreed to continue the consultations.

Talking to ArmInfo, Martirosyan said that Hovannisian and Tsarukyan
agreed on a range of issues and faced no intractable disagreements.

“Both the sides realize that to find a solution to the current heavy
social, economic and political situation, we need consolidation of the
political forces and the civil society,” he said. The politician could
not say if the political forces will refuse from their ambitions to
achieve a full consensus. “Anyway, all the parties have already
realized that to save Armenia they must combine efforts. They are
determined to work constructively,” he said.

The 4 non-coalition parliamentary forces are holding debates to form a
single political agenda and conduct a vote of no confidence to the
Armenian Government. On March 11 Gagik Tsarukyan met with ANC
representatives. Earlier, he met with members of ARFD. Such meetings
of the four parties are continuous.

March 15 is the birthday of famous Armenian clown and actor Leonid
Yengibarov. He would have turned 79 today.

Leonid Yengibarov was born in Moscow to an Armenian father and a
Russian mother. He started his career as a boxer. In 1955, he joined
the State School of Circus Art, Clownship department. After graduation
in 1959, he moved to Yerevan and joined the Armenian state circus.

He was one of the first Soviet clowns to create the poetic,
intellectual clownery, which made spectators think, not only laugh.
After initial incomprehension, his popularity grew immensely. After
that, he was invited to work in cinema. His first film, A Path to the
Arena, was in fact about himself.

By the end of the 1960s, he was known as one of the best clowns in the
country and in the countries of the Eastern bloc, where he was
permitted to travel. His circus career came to a halt in 1971: he left
the State Circus when his partner was banned from international
touring. He created a Pantomime Theatre instead. However, officially
he was forbidden to call his company “theatre,” only allowed to use
the term “troupe.” He managed to stage only a single piece, “Star
Rain,” before his untimely death.

Jews turned tragedy into culture, unlike Armenians – Armenian literary
critic on Genocide

14:26 * 15.03.14

The Jewish nation’s success in the Holocaust recognition efforts was
due to its talent of turning the tragedy into culture, a literary
critic has said, expressing regret that the Armenians did follow suit.

“The Jews had a success because they made culture and art the basic
tool of propaganda. They gained thanks to turning that experience into
culture. But ours [Genocide recognition attempts] remained limited to
wails,” Arkmenik Nikoghosyan told reporters on Saturday.

He said one literary work devoted to the topic has now been translated
into dofferent languages and submitted for an international contest.

“If a piece [of literature] is honored with a prize, it will attract a
public attention. We will thus facilitate the recognition process.
Hence, literature can be really useful. Instead of translating foreign
writers’ works, we must have our well-known samples translated into
different languages and later spread them. We know all about this now,
so it is necessary to introduce them to the public,” Nikoghosyan
added.

Monastères arméniens en péril

ARMENIE

PAP was directed by Serzh Sargsyan – Armenia opposition member

March 15, 2014 | 11:02

YEREVAN. – The Prosperous Armenia Party was directed by, and continues
to be dependent on, Serzh Sargsyan.

Karabakh War veteran, opposition Pre-Parliament initiative member
Jirair Sefilian wrote the aforesaid on his Facebook account.

“There is a widespread belief that Prosperous Armenia is a Russian
project, but I am convinced that this is not so. Prosperous Armenia
was directed by, and continues to be dependent on, the person who
today occupies the seat of the president [of Armenia], [that is,]
Serzh Sargsyan, at present. I believe he succeeded in playing on two
wires–both the West and Kremlin–for long years.

“[But] not pinning any hope on these processes, our people will have
to realize that the way out of the situation is forming a parallel
authority outside the current system, [and] by way of
self-organization,” Sefilian wrote, in particular.
