Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip ErdoÄ?an confirmed that the Syrian
plane was shot down by a Turkish Air Force F-16, Hurriyet Daily News
reported.

Syria also confirmed its plane was shot down by Turkey, calling the
act `blatant aggression that proves ErdoÄ?an government’s involvement
in supporting terrorist groups,’ state media quoted a military source
saying. The pilot of the downed plane ejected successfully, state TV
said.

A second Syrian plane was fired on by Turkish anti-aircraft
installations but escaped, the paper said. The planes were bombing
rebels attempting to gain control of the Kasab border crossing, AFP
reported.

According to the NGO Syrian Observatory of Human Rights, ‘Turkish air
defenses targeted a Syrian fighter bomber as it struck areas of the
northern province of Latakia. The plane caught fire and crashed in
Syrian territory.’

`I congratulate our chief of general staff and our pilots,’ ErdoÄ?an
was quoted saying.

The battle for Kasab, a town with a large Armenian community near the
Turkish border, has been raging for three days, and has involved an
increasing number of both government and rebel troops, including
forces affiliated with al-Qaeda, the Syrian Observatory for Human
Rights said.

Rebels have been on the offensive since Friday. Syrian state
television quoted an unnamed military official as saying that
government forces inflicted `heavy losses’ among rebels. State TV said
the rebels entered Syria from Turkey.

The Observatory also reported heavy fighting in the contested northern
city of Aleppo, which is divided between rebel and government forces.

The Turkish-Syrian border has seen several instances of cross-border
fire and altercations since the beginning of the Syrian Civil War.
Ankara has maintained support for the opposition, kept its border open
and allowed hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees into Turkish
territory. It is widely believed that several Syrian opposition groups
maintain bases of operation in the Turkish border region.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Armenia Keen to Import Iran’s Natural Gas

TEHRAN (FNA)- Armenian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Armen
Movsisyan voiced his country’s willingness to buy natural gas from
Iran in the near future.

Movsisyan said Armenia would soon start negotiations with Iran on
increasing gas imports from the Islamic Republic.

Armenia is willing to buy two billion cubic meters of gas from Iran
per annum, he added.

The Armenian minister added that the issue of buying two billion cubic
meters of gas would be discussed in a joint intergovernmental
commission between the two countries on economic cooperation which
would be held in Tehran in May.

Early in November, Iranian Energy Minister Hamid chitchian and his
Armenian counterpart Ara Simonian, in a meeting in Tehran, called for
the further expansion of mutual cooperation between the two countries,
specially in electricity fields.

During the meeting, the Iranian energy minister pointed to the current
status of Iran-Armenia relations, and said, “The two countries enjoy
very close cooperation in the fields of energy and electricity.”

He underlined that the two sides have also agreed to create a joint
venture to run a new power transfer line.

The Armenian energy minister, for his part, said that Armenia supports
the construction of the third line for transfer of high-voltage
electricity and Aras Hydroelectric Power Station.

In a similar meeting in Moscow in December, Chitchian and Simonian
underlined the need for boosting bilateral energy relations in the
near future.

Chitchian pointed to the high level of political relations between the
two countries, and said, “We believe that under the current
circumstances cooperation between the two countries can be further
developed in the fields of oil, gas and electricity.”

The Armenian energy minister, for his part, said that Iran and Armenia
enjoy very close cooperation, adding that Yerevan attaches great
significance to its ties with Tehran.

Simonian also expressed hope that Iran-Armenia ties would gain
momentum during the presidency of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

About USC Shoah Foundation – The Institute for Visual History and Education
USC Shoah Foundation is dedicated to making audiovisual interviews
with survivors and witnesses of the Holocaust and other genocides a
compelling voice for education and action.

Steven Spielberg established the Shoah Foundation after completing the
film Schindler’s List to collect and preserve the video testimonies of
survivors and other witnesses of the Holocaust. He envisioned that
these eyewitness accounts would have a profound effect on education,
and that the survivors would become teachers of humanity for
generations to come.

Today, the Institute’s Visual History Archive preserves history as
told by the people who lived it and lived through it. With its current
collection of nearly 52,000 eyewitness testimonies in 34 languages and
from 58 countries, it is one of the largest digital collections of its
kind in the world.

USC Shoah Foundation is part of the University of Southern
California’s Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and
Sciences. Working within the university and with partners around the
world, the Institute advances scholarship and research, provides
resources and online tools for educators, and disseminates the
testimonies for educational purposes.

The Institute is also working to preserve its testimonies in
perpetuity, and to expand the Visual History Archive with accounts of
survivors and witnesses of other genocides. In 2013 the Institute
added an initial collection of 65 testimonies of survivors and
rescuers from the 1994 Rwandan Tutsi genocide through a partnership
with Aegis Trust and in February 2014 an initial collection of 12
testimonies of survivors from the 1937 Nanjing Massacre were
integrated into the Visual History Archive through a partnership with
Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall. The Institute is also working to add
collections from the Armenian and Cambodian genocides, as well as a
collection of Testimonies from North Africa and the Middle East.
