SURVIVAL STORY OF TWO ARMENIANS DURING GENOCIDE TO BE PRESENTED IN BOSTON THEATRE

Next week the story of two Armenian women surviving the horrific
genocide of Armenians in Turkey will be presented on stage in Boston
due to the efforts and persistence of one particular man who tried
to keep history alive, The Boston Globe reports.

Shrewsbury dentist Martin Deranian, 89, lost his mother when he was
less than 7-years-old and throughout his life he tried to find out
what had happened to his mother and all the other heroic women during
the 1915 Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire.

“Deported: a dream play,’~R by Elliot Norton Award-winning Newton
playwright Joyce Van Dyke is based on the story of her grandmother
Elmas Sarajian and Deranian’s mother Varter Nazarian.

The women moved to America after they had lost everything including
their husbands and children during the Armenian Genocide.

When Van Dyke was a child she often asked her grandmother what had
happened to her then, but she would never fully tell her story.

“I only know parts of the story because the family never talked about
the genocide,” Van Dyke says, whose play is to be presented at Boston
Playwrights’ Theatre, beginning Thursday.

Expert: Russian Election Not To Impact Armenia

EXPERT: RUSSIAN ELECTION NOT TO IMPACT ARMENIA

The Russian presidential polls are unlikely to have a direct impact
on electoral processes in Armenia, according to Alexander Iskandaryan,
a political analyst.

At a news conference on Monday, the expert said that Russia will
keep working with Armenia’s newly elected authorities after the May
parliamentary polls (which also imply a change of cabinet).

Considering Vladimir Putin’s victory a “change of situation”,
he admitted that his forecasts on the incumbent premier’s success
were 10% inaccurate (Iskandaryan had earlier said that Putin had 55%
chances to win in the presidential election).

He said the outcome of the Russian polls will not essentially impact
Armenia unless the country announces a foreign policy change.

Iskandaryan also ruled out the possibility of any impact on Armenia’s
parliamentary election.

As for the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the expert
said he does not expect major changes in that process either.

“I am not inclined to think that Medvedev pursued independent policies
on any issue, including the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. So, I don’t
think there will be essential changes,” he added.

Turkey says could annex north if Cyprus stays split
Reuters
March 4, 2012

ISTANBUL (Reuters) – Turkey would consider annexing northern Cyprus
if talks between Greek and Turkish Cypriots failed to reach a deal on
reunification of the island, Turkey’s European Affairs Minister Egemen
Bagis told a Turkish Cypriot newspaper.

Greek Cypriot leader Dimitris Christofias and his Turkish Cypriot
counterpart Dervis Eroglu have made little progress in negotiations to
reunite the island, divided in 1974, since the United Nations
persuaded them to renew efforts late last year.

Bagis told Turkish Cypriot newspaper Kibris that Turkey would support
any agreement reached by the two sides, but said that was only one of
several possible outcomes.

“Reunification under a deal that (the two) leaders could reach,
creation of two independent states after an agreement between the two
leaders if they are unable to reach a deal for reunification, or
annexation of the KKTC (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) to
Turkey,” Bagis told Kibris during an interview in London.

“These are all the options on the table.”

Many Turkish Cypriots oppose the notion of annexation. Turkey’s NTV
news channel quoted Ozkan Yorganciogly, leader of the main opposition
Republican Turks Party (CTP), as saying the idea was unacceptable.

Cyprus, governed by a Greek Cypriot administration and a member of
the European Union, has used the dispute to slow Turkey’s efforts to
join the bloc.

Frustrated by the lack of progress, Turkey has said if there was no
solution by July 1 when Cyprus takes over the European Union
presidency, it would suspend dialogue until the presidency passes to
another EU member in 2013.

Turkey has stationed troops in the north since invading in 1974,
after a coup in Cyprus orchestrated by a military junta in Athens.

Northern Cyprus is only recognized only by Ankara and its only air
link is with Turkey. It is also excluded from international sport,
finance and trade, and it has been heavily subsidized by Ankara.

The dispute took a serious turn last September when Cyprus allowed
gas exploration drilling to commence. That prompted Turkey to dispatch
naval ships to the Eastern Mediterranean, saying that any gas found
would belong to all Cypriots.

Opp MP’s Argue New Bill Seeks to Quash Public Protest Even Further

Opposition MP’s Argue New Bill Seeks to Quash Public Protest Even Further

The RA government has submitted another questionable piece of
legislation to the parliament.

The bill is entitled, `Changes and Amendments to the RA Code Regarding
Administrative Legal Violations’. Opposition MP’s have already voiced
their criticism.

According to the bill, those found in violation of the use of public
spaces – streets, sidewalks, bus stops, playgrounds, airports, etc –
will be subject to fines ranging from 20,000 to 60,000 AMD.

Many see the bill as yet another scheme to restrict public rallies and
protests in the lead up to parliamentary elections in May.

Some MP’s also argue that the bill is directed against small-scale
street vendors.

Another clause in the bill that has incurred the wrath of opposition
legislators would allow for 20,000 to 50,000 AMD fines to be levied
against those who `publicly insult representatives of the government
in the course of their duties’.

Bill detractors say that the government wants to kill two birds with
one stone, by first outlawing public protest and then fining those who
have the nerve to quarrel with government representatives.

great companies.

Kurdish extremists have fulfilled an operation of annihilating some
Iranian nuclear laboratories.

Another news about Iranian-Israeli relation is also much discussed in
the world media. It is about Israeli possible attack on Iran.

Before the USA announced that the attack may be failed so the idea is
not welcomed by the American side. At the same time Israel continues
announcing that Iranian nuclear points must be bombarded. Iranian side
warns that in case of attack Israel will just be demolished.

Le boomerang arménien

AUTEUR: Eric Conan

question reste ouverte.
