Representatives from Argentina’s Armenian community organized a
protest demonstration against Azerbaijani FM Elmar Mammadyarov’s
visit to that country.

The picket was held Thursday in front of Azerbaijan’s Embassy in Buenos
Aires. The protesters held banners that accused Azerbaijan of racism,
nationalism and xenophobia, and of organizing the Armenian pogroms
in the Azerbaijani cities of Sumgait and Baku.

According to Azerbaijani media, along the lines of his visit to
Argentina on Friday, Mammadyarov will meet with his Argentinean
counterpart Hector Timerman. Also, the delegations will attend the
Azerbaijan-Argentina Business Forum, and bilateral meetings will be
held together with the business circles. In addition, the Azerbaijani
FM will meet with several Argentinean ministers as well as with the
secretaries of domestic and foreign trade.

Earlier, Argentinean FM Hector Timerman, together with 200 businessmen
from Argentina, had paid an official visit to Baku.

Delinquent Diplomat: Los Angeles Armenians Demand New General Consul

DELINQUENT DIPLOMAT: LOS ANGELES ARMENIANS DEMAND NEW GENERAL CONSUL

hetq
11:49, July 27, 2012

Hetq has received a letter signed by a “group of diaspora Armenians
taking Grigor Hovhannisyan, the Armenian General Consul in Los Angeles,
to task for three years of ineptitude and failure to perform his
assigned duties.

So frustrated is the group that in their letter they call on Armavia
Airlines to give Hovhannisyan a one way ticket back to Yerevan and
to charge the All Armenian Fund for the cost of the ticket.

The group charges Hovhannisyan with neglecting the local community,
especially RA citizens residing in the Los Angeles area.

They say that the location of the Armenian Consulate has changed
several times over the years and despite the fact that it has moved
closer to the densely populated Armenian community of Glendale,
nothing has changed in terms of community outreach.

The letter writers claim that Hovhannisyan has always avoided contact
with the community, its youth, reporters and writers’ union, and has
only made one appearance on local Armenian TV during his three year
tenure as consul.

During that appearance, Hovhannisyan is said to have urged the
community not to stage protests outside the consulate.

The group reminds Hovhannisyan that they reside in a democratic country
where freedom of expression is a cherished value and that he should
wake up to this reality.

They also accuse Hovhannisyan of failing to meet with community
members at a July 13 protest regarding the murder of military physician
Vahe Avetyan.

The protestors wanted to hand a letter to the consul but he refused
to come outside and instead sent an underling to discuss terms. The
staffer told protestors that only one person would be allowed in to
hand the letter to Hovhannisyan.

The letter writers call on RA Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan to
immediately recall Hovhannisyan and replace him with a more suitable
and well-meaning diplomat.

A new environmental initiative dealing with the protection of
the Khosrov Reserve is calling for proper measures to ensure the
preservation of the fauna and flora of the natural heritage site.

In a statement, the members of the group ask the Ministry of Nature
Protection to dismantle a stone construction built on the territory
of the reserve and suspend the road building, as well as take
accountability measures against all the officials who allowed the
construction of an entertainment site on the territory.

The group demands that the officials, as well as the company carrying
out the construction work, pay for the damages that could be caused
while returning the park to its former appearance. They also call
for bringing Armenia’s relevant legislation in compliance with
international agreements, involving all interested parties in the
process.

The environmentalists are organizing a visit to the Khosrov reserve
on Sunday morning. They are planning to tour the Guilan preserve and
a cafe was built by the construction company, Hovazadzor.

The group informs that anyone wishing to join the initiative can
register until 8:00 pm local time on Saturday, by contacting Hasmik
Grigoryan (098 84 59 80).

The population of Nor Kharberd (Ararat region) complains that over
20 families in the village have been deprived of drinking water for
already two months.

A resident of the village, Seda Minasyan, told Tert.am that no one
has so far managed to resolve the water supply problem.

“It’s about two months we have no water; neither do we know the
reason. No one can do anything,” she said.

The governor of the village, Kamo Kakoyan, confirmed the report to
our correspondent, adding that the Yerevan-Jour company is expected
to launch water supply renewal work on Monday.

“It is first of all because of the summer heat that those houses
have no access to water. I have several times turned to the competent
bodies. This time they promised to help by raising the water pressure.

They are coming on Monday. The problem is really serious. The
population jas no water, which is very difficult in summer time,”

GERMAN LEFT-WING NEWSPAPER CONSIDERS THE TERRITORY OF NAGORNO-KARABAKH 11 458 SQUARE KILOMETERS

ARMENPRESS

YEREVAN

YEREVAN, JULY 28, ARMENPRESS: Several days have passed after
the presidential elections in Nagorno-Karabakh Republic but some
international Media continue to reverberate to democratic elections in
Artsakh and their results. Armenpress reports that German Jungewelt
daily newspaper in his article notices that Nagorno-Karabakh, which
is populated exclusively by Armenians, is one of the four de-facto
states in the territory of former Soviet Union with South Ossetia,
Abkhazia and Transnistria. The newspaper considers Nagorno-Karabakh
as the largest of them with its 11 458 square kilometers. At the
same time Jungewelt daily newspaper notices that the country has a
population of almost 150 000 people.

It is peculiar that the presenting the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh
with such territory is an unusual fact for German newspapers as
in case of such territory in the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh are
included also surrounding areas of the Republic.

An incident took place in front of the government building a short
while ago as the parents of soldiers who were killed in peace laid
the picture of Serzh Sargsyan under their feet, as well as his written
pledge that he is interested in the revelation of the murders.

Police demanded that the parents take the photo off the ground,
saying that it is not dignified to lay the picture of the head of
state on the ground. Deputy Police Colonel Karen Movsisyan convinced
the parents to take the picture off the ground, but that was in vain.

When one of the police officers tried to take the picture of Serzh
Sargsyan off the ground, it ripped. Women took out another picture of
Serzh Sargsyan and laid it under their feet. Nothing has changed yet.

"Serzh Sargsyan Calls The Shots For The BHK"

“SERZH SARGSYAN CALLS THE SHOTS FOR THE BHK”

07:34 pm | Today | Politics

“In 2013, Levon Ter-Petrosyan will no longer join the process of making
Serzh Sargsyan step down from power,” says member of the Sardarapat
Movement Jirayr Sefilyan.

According to him, Levon Ter-Petrosyan is no longer a threat to the
authorities due to the mistakes that he has been making over the past
four years and he no longer has the large army of supporters that he
had during the 2008 presidential elections.

“Our objective is to form a new political center of gravity so that
we can bring the people together again.”

Sefilyan says he no longer sees current political figures Levon
Ter-Petrosyan, Gagik Tsarukyan, Samvel Alexanyan and Ruben Hayrapetyan
in this new center of gravity, but pure, honest and sincere people
whom the authorities can’t buy or sell.

The ex-freedom fighter sees sincere figures within political parties
as well, but says he won’t mention any names at the moment. “There
are some people in the field, and some of them are in parliament.”

Sefiliyan wants everyone to know that Serzh Sargsyan calls the shots
for Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) and it’s not worth viewing that
party as the opposition. As for the 2013 presidential elections,
Sefilyan says Serzh Sargsyan will be reelected, if there are no
force-majeur situations.
