will be spread in Armenian schools and Armenian colonies of diaspora.

Presently ‘~RHazar Peshak’~R and ‘~RParap Vakhti Khaghalik” works by
Khachatur Abovyan are in a process of translation.

Zatikyan said, that Khachatur Abovyan’s Memorial Museum published
those books in the expense of its own powers aiming to make this
Armenian genius more familiar for new generation.

As per the director of Khachatur Abovyan’s Memorial Museum a new
publication regarding scientific circles studying Abovyan’s literary
heritage, named ‘~RArmenian Question”, was published one of these days.

Armenia Should Come Out Against Azerbaijan Through Rapprochement Wit

ARMENIA SHOULD COME OUT AGAINST AZERBAIJAN THROUGH RAPPROCHEMENT WITH HUNGARY

The Armenian ambassador Arman Navasardyan considers suspending
diplomatic relations with Hungary the right step on Armenia’s part.

On the other hand, he does not welcome further developments.

“The statements by Armenia’s president can be considered tantamount
to suspending diplomatic relations, my attitude to subsequent measures
is quite different. Emotional behavior cannot help,” Navasardyan told
journalists on Monday.

The people of Hungary must be differentiated from the country’s
authorities. “We should understand that Hungary is not its present
government. We had a great common past,” the diplomat said.

>From a purely diplomatic aspect of the issue, Navasardyan noted that
Armenia made a second mistake. “The first mistake was when Armenian
diplomats failed to understand how the murderer was released. The
second mistake was an unconventional approach to the event,”
Navasardyan said.

Since it is unclear if is Hungary or Azerbaijan that is the deceiver,
the Armenian diplomat calls for more a more realistic policy.

“Hungary does exit – good or bad. So we need an unconventional
approach. For example, through rapprochement with Hungary coming out
against Azerbaijan,” Navasardyan said.

Secret Of The "Karabakh Clan"

SECRET OF THE “KARABAKH CLAN”
Naira Hayrumyan

Story from Lragir.am News:

Published: 12:55:04 – 08/10/2012

One month prior to the presidential nomination, the main election fight
is supposed to be unfolded between the second and third presidents. It
is not important whether Robert Kocharyan will be nominated or will
support someone: the important is that “third figures” won’t be
allowed into this game.

The fact that the intrigue will be in place until the very last moment
means that the second and third presidents, either by default, or on
purpose, agreed to leave out all other potential candidates. When
it will be little time left for nominations, they will voice their
decision and will decide the outcome of the campaign together.

It is evident that the two presidents are engaged in such a game. It is
clear that everyone, including the political figures see their game,
and they can correct it. But, apparently, everyone is happy with the
game, and there is no strong politician in Armenia to be able to hinder
it. As Robert Kocharyan once said: there are no men in Armenia…

Later, when everything is over, the political figures will say that
those from Karabakh again took everything in their hands, that they
don’t want to leave the power and support each other. But, no one
will ask what they personally did to prevent such development.

The issue on the Karabakh clan is disputable because if Robert
Kocharyan, mentally, is a Karabakh political figure, Serzh Sargsyan
prefers a wider image. He does not refuse his Karabakh origin but
does not advertise it either. In the Armenian perception, both of
these figures are still “foreigners” but there is no one “local”
to become a worthy rival.

It’s not about intelligence or other qualities: there are many decent
people in Armenia and even in politics. The case is their relation
to the politics which is seen as a calculated risk, or adventure
in the best sense of the word, it’s the pursuit of victory, not the
original justification of their future defeats. The question is not
the origin of the man, it’s his ambitions, the determination to take
responsibility, the ability to make decisions.

Opposition members in Armenia show enviable indecision to take a
decision. For example, the idea on the joint opposition candidate
was “strangled” by Aharon Adibekyan, who said Gagik Tsarukyan is the
potential joint candidate. Actually, he teased the opposition and gave
a tough assessment to it. None of the oppositional figures turned out
courageous enough to show determination and issue his or her ambitions.

As to the origins, perhaps, many Armenian political figures are
psychologically held back because they were born or grew up in foreign
countries. Armenians in foreign countries, even in the richest ones,
always have to repress their ambitions, especially, political ones.

This is the reason of Vartan Oskanian’s justifying manner of speaking,
against whom an accusation on political grounds was fabricated, the
same goes for Levon Ter-Petrosyan, who at the most decisive moment,
decided to enter dialogue with Serzh Sargsyan or to create the joint
election staff with the PAP.

The presidential elections in Armenia may end as soon as the
nominations are over. This is the case when everything will be decided
before the elections. Even if Kocharyan runs, and a real fight is
unfolded between him and Serzh Sargsyan, and one of them wins, for
the Armenian society, it will mean lack of choice.

Second Parliament Bribery Video Implicates President Aliyev And His

SECOND PARLIAMENT BRIBERY VIDEO IMPLICATES PRESIDENT ALIYEV AND HIS WIFE

Azadliq, Azeri Report

BAKU. October 8, 2012. Oppositional newspaper “Azadliq” has released
a second hidden cam video on Saturday where the leading MP from the
ruling YAP party, Gular Ahmadova, is asking for a million dollar bribe
for getting someone a seat in Azerbaijan’s national parliament. In
the new video, Ahmadova names the country’s President Ilham Aliyev
and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva among people directing lists of people
to be “elected” into the parliament (click here for the link to the
second video in Azeri).

In the new video, which seems to be another part of the million dollar
parliament seat bribe conversation revealed by the first video, MP
Gular Ahmadova chides Elshad Abdullayev for double-crossing her and
trying to work with other people, namely President Aliyev’s late uncle
Agil Aliyev, to secure his “election” to the parliament. She recalls
examples of two other people, mentioned as “Algish” and “Musa”, whom
she and her associates “got into the parliament”, but who went on to
work with others: jailed former minister Ali Insanov and the current
mayor of Baku Hajibala Abutalibov. “This time it can’t happen”,
warns Ahmadova.

Seconding her, Sevinj Babyeva, acting as the intermediary between
Ahmadova and Abdullayev, tells him “if you started working with Master
Ramiz [the head of Presidential Administration Ramiz Mehtiyev],
if you went with him, you have to keep on working with him”. This
seems to confirm that Gular Ahamadova was really representing Ramiz
Mehdiyev in the bribery scheme.

Then, in a striking conclusion, Ahmadova says: “You know, there people
who are Farhad’s people [jailed former minister Farhad Aliyev]. They
know that this is Farhad’s list; this is Ali Insanov’s list [another
jailed former minister]. They know this [list] is for Kamaladdin
Heydarov [the current top oligarch and minister of Emergency
Situations], this is for Ramiz Mehdiyev [the head of Presidential
Administration], this is for Ilham Aliyev [President], this is for
Mehriban Aliyeva [President’s wife].”

Both videos were sent to “Azadliq” newspaper by Elshad Abdullayev,
an exiled rector of a private university shut down by the government,
who now lives in France. He is the person with whom Gular Ahmadova is
seen haggling on the videos over the bribe amount. In his letter to
“Azadliq”, Abdullayev noted that he sent the second video in order to
prove that Ahmadova was not acting on her own behalf in the bribery
scheme, as some Azerbaijani officials claimed after the first video was
released. He knew that by herself Ahmadova was not capable to guarantee
someone a seat in the parliament. Rather, she has convinced him that
the bribe money will go to the head of Presidential Administration,
Ramiz Mehdiyev.

After the first video, Gular Ahmadova was expelled from the ruling
party and the parliament, and regime officials released statements
condemning both her and Abdullayev. However, many see this as
an attempt to use her as a scape-goat, while the more important
implications from the videos – the illegitimacy of the parliament and
the personal involvement in bribery schemes and election falsifications
by President Aliyev, his wife, and other high officials, like Ramiz
Mehdiyev – are conveniently overlooked.

`Orphans of the Genocide’

The presentation of the broadcast version documentary `Orphans of the
Genocide’ directed by four time Emmy award winner Bared Maronian, took
place on Sunday, September 30th at 4:00 p.m. at the Woodbury
University in Burbank, California. This well attended event was
organized by Ararat- Eskijian Museum, with the support of both the
Western Diocese of America and the Prelacy churches.

Martin Eskijian welcomed the attendees on behalf of the
Ararat-Eskijian Museum and invited the world-renowned Armenian
Genocide scholar, Professor Vahakn N . Dadrian to the stage. Professor
Dadrian gave a compelling introductory lecture on the extreme cruelty
these young orphan children experienced at the hands of the Ottoman
Turks.

Not only were some brutally murdered by hatchets, poison and swords,
but also the novel method of mass drowning at the shores of the Black
Sea and sections of the Euphrates River, especially in the Harput
province, was utilized. Often the victims were mercilessly brutalized
through sexual abuse, before being murdered, irrespective of the
gender. Children placed in Turkish homes were almost always sexually
abused and brothels were common. Another, milder form of perpetration
involved the reducing of female victims in many Turkish households to
the status of a concubine. In rare instances the female victims were
integrated in a Turkish household as a legitimate wife, often as one
of several wives, or, as a single wife. Very few of these could, or
wanted to return to their original household after the end of the war.

Professor Dadrian’s eye opening lecture was followed by Bared
Maronian’s dynamic presentation of the Armenoid Team’s inception,
accomplishments and future plans with a focus on the team’s current
project, `Orphans of the Genocide’ that consists of a documentary film
and a companion book, telling the story of untold numbers of Armenian
children who had become prime targets by the organizers of the
Genocide.

Mr. Maronian’s extraordinary work depicts a theme that for decades has
remained overlooked by historians trying to explore the various
aspects of the World War I cataclysm that nearly obliterated the
Armenian nation. The material in question almost entirely focuses on
the surviving Armenian children. The extreme and deplorable condition
and abuses of these surviving orphans allows insight into the overall
context and intent of the crime. The object of `Turkification’ also
was a form of genocide that was perpetrated on the Armenian nation by
stripping the children of their Armenian identity. Mr. Maronian showed
4 complete segments of the broadcast version of the film, which
resonated a benchmark production value and a unique story telling
technique. At the conclusion of hid presentation, Maronian gave the
attendees a chance to express their thoughts on his film, who in
return praised the well researched and produced touching film
depicting the stories of the Armenian Genocide orphans.

Maronian thanked the attendees for their support specially all those
who generously contributed to his project. The seed-money for the
project was provided by Alecco Bezikian, who is the son of an Armenian
Genocide Orphan. Dr. Noubar Ouzounian and Sarah Chitjian, both a son
and a daughter of Genocide orphans continually supported `Orphans of
the Genocide’. `I wholeheartedly thank all those who made this project
possible, specially the curator of Ararat-Eskijian Museum, Maggie
Goschin- Mangassarian who adopted this project from it’s inception’.

Among the dignitaries were accomplished Hollywood producer Howard
Kazanjian and Missak Keleshian, the researcher who unrevealed the
story of the Armenian Genocide orphans of Aintoura, Lebanon, who were
destined for `Turkification’.

The closing words were delivered by Nancy Eskijian, Esq., who
reiterated the importance of supporting the project at hand in any way
possible.

Finally, His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, the Primate of
Western Diocese commanded Maronian’s work and concluded his words by
saying, ‘after seeing this powerful film, I can attest that genocide
has a different meaning to me’.

Upon the conclusion of the event the guests were invited to a
reception at the atrium of the Fletcher Jones Foundation Auditorium of
Woodbury University, where 18 images depicting the experiences of
Armenian Genocide orphans were displayed on special canvas prints.

ISTANBUL: Upset with Iran, Baku moves closer to Israel

Upset with Iran, Baku moves closer to Israel

BAKU – Hürriyet Daily News

Azerbaijan is pursuing ties with Israel amid anger at Iran’s close
relationship with Armenia that it sees as `the cause for Armenian
intransigence on Karabakh’

Azar Azimov, deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, (L) is seen with
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet DavutoÄ?lu in this file photo. Azimov
blames Tehran of supplying Armenia with energy, with natural gas and
oil, saying `Iran gives life to Armenia.’ AA photo

Serkan DemirtaÅ[email protected]

Azerbaijan criticized neighboring Iran for `giving life’ to Armenia
by supplying natural gas and oil to its rival while defending its own
growing relationship with Israel for security and technological needs,
in an already-tense Caucasus.

`Iran has more than 30 agreements with Armenia, where it has an
embassy as well. It supplies [Armenia] with energy, with natural gas
and oil. It builds new roads for transportation. If Armenia is so
tough in negotiations [over Nagorno-Karabakh] it’s because the support
it receives from Iran as well as from Russia. Iran gives life to
Armenia,’ Azar Azimov, deputy foreign minister of Azerbaijan told the
Hürriyet Daily News in an interview in Baku on Oct. 5.

Ties between Iran and its northern neighbor Azerbaijan have been
strained recently after Tehran accused Baku of overlooking the
activities of Israel within its territory, from where Israeli
intelligence conducted the assassination of some of its nuclear
experts last year. It also described Israeli-Azeri rapprochement as
against Iran. `Our relationship with Israel is a bilateral one, Iran
should not feel disturbed by it,’ Azimov said, adding that his country
has not allowed and will not allow any third party to use its soil to
attack Iran.

Israeli ties not strategic

Defying criticisms coming from Iran over its growing relationship with
Israel, Azimov said, `Why wouldn’t we establish ties with Israel? We
have similar security interests with Israel. Did not Turkey have such
cooperation with Israel in the past?’ Azerbaijan signed a $1.6 billion
deal with Israel in a bid to provide hi-tech defense equipment. Iran
sought an explanation from Azerbaijan after the deal.

Re-emphasizing growing Iranian ties with Armenia, Azimov said `Iran
should think about this as well. It should not cooperate with Armenia
until the occupation ends, like Turkey.’ Though showing the importance
his country puts on its ties with Israel, the Azerbaijani diplomat
refused to call it a `strategic relationship.’ `Strategic cooperation
shows a very unique relationship. Parties enjoying strategic ties take
every step through consultations. Like Turkey and Azerbaijan. We are
improving our relations with Israel, making deals on defense and
technology, but this does not mean that we are strategic partners,’ he
said.

Azimov said Azerbaijan was a Muslim country and its policy was based
on the establishment of a sovereign state of Palestine. `We are at the
same time against Israel’s settlement policies,’ he said, adding that
his country’s policy was based on principles Azeri public opinion
supported. On Azerbaijan’s most important issue, the Nagorno-Karabakh
problem, the Azeri diplomat painted a rather pessimistic picture given
the fact that the cease-fire between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops
has almost broken 20 years after the occupation of Azeri lands.

`If this cease-fire is broken, the lives of so many people will be at
risk, especially Azerbaijani civilians living in the region, as well
as troops. Azerbaijan will be more affected by this as no civilians
live in the Armenian part of the occupied Azeri lands,’ he said.
Armenia is trying to oblige Azerbaijani to give a stronger response
and totally suspend negotiations in a move to gain more time to freeze
the Nagorno-Karabakh problem, according to the diplomat.

Unlike Armenia, Azerbaijan is making fresh proposals to break the
stalemate in talks, he said. The first is to let all Minsk Group
countries participate in the negotiation process, as the talks under
the auspices of three co-chair countries; France, the United States
and Russia; are not going anywhere.

Secondly, Azerbaijan is demanding the establishment of a concrete road
map outlining the steps that will be taken in a timeline.

Sbragia: Tartan Army can help us qualify

Sunday, 07 October 2012

UEFA European Under-19 Championship Qualifying Round
Scotland, Switzerland, Armenia, Romania
9th-14th October 2012
New Douglas Park and the Falkirk Stadium

Cash gate: Adults £5, kids go FREE*

Ricky Sbragia believes the Tartan Army can help his Scotland Under-19
side in their quest to reach the elite round of the UEFA European
Under-19 Championship as Scotland gets set to host qualifying group
nine this week.

His side will take on Switzerland, Armenia and Romania in a
mini-tournament format with the top two sides progressing to the next
stage of the competition and supporters under the age of 16 can gain
FREE entry to the matches.

New Douglas Park will play host to Scotland’s opening game against
Armenia on Tuesday night (kick-off 7.30pm) and Sbragia hopes home
advantage can help his team get off to a flying start.

He said: `It’s important for us to get off to a good start against
Armenia because qualifying from this group will not be an easy task.

`They have some really good technical players who look to get forward
carefully so it’s important for us to find our feet early in the match
and get into the game from there.

`We have home advantage for these games and I hope the Scotland fans
can get behind us this week and help us reach the next round.’

Scotland prepared for the qualifiers with friendly matches against
Germany, Norway and the Netherlands with mixed results.

A 1-0 defeat to Germany was followed by a 2-1 victory away to Norway
before the young Scots succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to the Netherlands
last month.

However Sbragia is confident his players will be ready for this week’s matches.

He said: `I think we’ve performed well in our preparation matches but
these are the matches that count.

`These are the big games and our players need to show they can handle
the pressure that comes with that.

`There are two places up for grabs and I think we’re capable of being
in the top two come Sunday.’

Several members of the Scotland squad have been playing regular
first-team football at their clubs.

Ryan Fraser (Aberdeen), Callum Paterson (Heart of Midlothian) and
Lewis MacLeod (Rangers) have featured heavily for their clubs this
season and others have made also made good contributions.

`We are fortunate to have so many players with first-team experience
and I hope that will give us an advantage this week,’ said Sbragia.

`We have around seven or eight players with that kind of experience
and a handful at some top clubs in England playing in their under-21
league down there.

`That’s great news for us but it’s also great for Scottish football in general.

`We have some really talented young players coming through and I hope
they can produce for us this week.’

Echmiadzin’s renovated musical school to open soon

tert.am
21:07 – 07.10.12

After three years’ repairs, the musical school of the Echmiadzin will
soon open its doors with a completely fresh external design and
interior.

Its opening ceremony, held earlier on Sunday, was attended by
President Serzh Sargsyan, Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II,
Echmiadzin Mayor Karen Grigoryan, and several other officials.

Mayor Grigoryan praised the state efforts towards assisting in the
building’s renovation and thanked the president on behalf of himself
and the school’s staff.

Speaking to reporters, the school’s director said their institution,
which formerly lay in ruins, may now have no equal across the
republic.

`We were afraid lest the children should hit the glasses while running
and find themselves downstairs. But thank God, the country leader
found a way to help us. The building has been constructed at the
expense of the state budget,’ Benik Shamiryan said, adding that they
now have 293 pupils, of whom 82 were admitted this year.

`I have made inquiries and found that this number doesn’t exist
anywhere, not even at the musical schools of Yerevan. This
demonstrates that people in our city love music and attend school to
learn [music],’ he said.

Shamiryan added that the folk, string and wind instruments are taught
free of charge thanks to the city’s mayor. He asserted further that
they have almost no shortage of instruments.

`There is a problem with just few instruments,’ he said. `We have
applied to corresponding people at the Ministry of Culture and asked
for their help, if possible.’

After visiting the school, the president and the other high ranking
officials laid flowers to a monument built in commemoration of the
Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) war heroes.
