Gourgen Margaryan’s spirit will never die: Caroline Cox

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 28, ARMENPRESS. “Your heroes are true heroes,”
member of the British House of Lords Caroline Cox stated this
addressing the people of Armenia and Artsakh at the opening of the
monument dedicated to Armenian Officer murdered with an axe while
asleep by an Azerbaijani assassin Ramil Safarov. Among other things
Baroness Cox noted that she shares the grief of Gourgen Margaryan’s
family and that she was shacked to know that Armenian officer was
murdered while asleep. As reports “Armenpress” among other things
Baroness Cox underscored: “I am a mother myself and I could not help
my tears when I learnt the way Your son was murdered. I was even more
shocked to know that the assassin was proclaimed a hero in
Azerbaijan. I am very worried about the future of Azerbaijan and the
way they educate their children, when they consider a murderer to be a
hero.”

The monument dedicated to the memory of the axe-murdered Armenian
officer Gourgen Margaryan was opened in Yerevan. The monument was
erected in the park nearby the 52 Leningradyan Street. Gourgen
Margaryan’s relatives, representatives of the Ministry of Defense of
the Republic of Armenia, Deputies of the National Assembly of the
Republic of Armenia, and other higher officials attended the opening
ceremony of the aforesaid monument held on September 28.

Azerbaijani assassin Ramil Safarov, who axe-murdered Armenian officer
Gurgen Margaryan while sleeping with 16 blows, when they were
participating in NATO English Language Courses in the capital of
Hungary on February 19, 2004 in Budapest, was sentenced to life
imprisonment without right to be pardoned for 30 years. On August 31,
2012 Safarov was extradited from Hungary to Azerbaijan and was
pardoned by the President Ilham Aliyev. The murderer was advanced to
major, provided with an apartment and given title of “national hero”
and compensated for the 8 years of the imprisonment in Hungary.
Armenia suspended diplomatic relations with Hungary. The extradition,
pardoning and release of Safarov were condemned by many countries and
authoritative organizations of the world.

Karabakh people are building their land with justice and democracy

YEREVAN. – The people of Nagorno-Karabakh are building their future
based on justice and democracy, Baroness Caroline Cox told reporters
in Yerevan.

`I have great admiration for the people of Artsakh [Nagorno-Karabakh]
both the way they defended their land in the historic struggle, and
the way they are now building their land with justice and democracy.
Karabakh has beautiful new buildings. I always say Armenians can make
beauty from the ashes of destruction. And you can see it in Artsakh.’

On Saturday Baroness Cox participated in the opening of a monument to
the Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan who was killed by Ramil Safarov.

Armenian FM and State Department official discuss Karabakh conflict

On the margins of the 68th session of the UN General Assembly,
Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian on Friday met with Wendy
Sherman, U.S. Under Secretary for Political Affairs.

The sides had an in-depth discussion of the moves taken to move
forward the Karabakh peace process. The officials touched upon further
development of bilateral relations in different areas as well as
regional challenges.

On the same day, Minister Nalbandian met with the delegation of the
American Jewish Committee to discuss regional situation and
developments in the Middle East.

Armenian parliamentarians conduct closed meetings with Russian, US, EU diplomats

Members of the Armenian National Assembly’s Standing Committees on
Foreign Relations, and European Integration have recently held
closed-door meetings with US Ambassador John Heffern, Head of the EU
Mission to Armenia, Ambassador Trajan Hristea, and Russian Ambassador
Ivan Volynkin.

In comments to Tert.am, Tevan Poghosyan, an MP of the opposition
Heritage party who is represented in the Foreign Relations Committee,
addressed the objectives and principal trends of the meetings. `The
organization of meetings in any format is, in general, commendable.
There are open and closed hearings and parliamentary speeches;
different parliaments have their mechanisms, and because Armenia is
now in a process of very active debates on policy vectors, [hesitating
between]European integration, the Customs Union and the possible
continuation of the [EU] Association Agreement … there are various
developments in the region, so September had an active start,’ he
said.

Poghosyan added that the committee also conducts meetings with
representatives of the Ministry of Defense.

Asked whether the meetings with the Russian and US ambassadors have
focused on Armenia’s Customs Union membership issue and the so-called
continuation of the Association Agreement process, the opposition MP
refrained from any comments, noting that the discussions were
closed-door.

Speaking to Tert.am, Head of the European Integration Committee Naira
Zohrabyan (Prosperous Armenia faction) commented on the meeting with
Ambassador Hristea.

`It was a very effective meeting, and I got the answers to many
questions that weren’t clear to me before,’ she said.

Asked whether the EU will sign any agreement with Armenia or insist
nonetheless that the word `association’ be retained, Zohrabaan
answered, `What has been negotiated over the course of four years is
not possible to sign; so we cannot exclude the DCFTA [Deep and
Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement] from the constituent documents and
sign only the Association [Agreement]. But the EU is ready to work on
the new document, and a spokesperson for [Enlargement Commissioner]
Stefan Fule has said that too. So there is a willingness on the part
of EU to work on the document.’

ZVARTNOTS AIRPORT OLD TERMINAL HINDERS CONCESSIONER’S EXPANSION PLAN

PanARMENIAN.Net – The representative of the General Department of
Civil Aviation (GDCA) Ashot Azizyan submitted a business plan to
Armenia International Airports CJSC during discussions at Armenian
Public Council.

The business plan includes a paragraph on demolition of the airport’s
old terminal. According to Azizyan, with the unsatisfactory state
the building is in, its fortification will require a minimum of AMD
10-12 million. Also, the old terminal renders the concessioner’s plan
to expand the airport area impossible.

Architects present at the discussed spoke against the old terminal’s
demolition, noting that the latter doesn’t necessarily hinder the
expansion plan.

A representative of the air transport policy subcommittee Isabella
Muradyan, in turn, noted that the old terminal allows landing of major
airliners, servicing of several planes, with the new building having
no such capacity. “The old terminal can also allocate a transit zone,”
she said, objecting to the demolition of the terminal.

As Azizyan noted upon completion of discussions, GDCA will support
any decision taken by the Public Council.

As the Public Council spokesperson Ani Gasparyan told PanARMENIAN.Net
a month ago, the head of the General Department of Civil Aviation
Artem Movsisyan requested the Council to organize public hearings on
the Zvartnots old terminal demolition.

“As he noted, with the airport development program discussed by the
government and Armenia International Airports CJSC, the possibility
of the terminal’s demolition is not ruled out,” Ms Gasparyan said.

At the same time, as Zvartnots press service told PanARMENIAN.Net
no application for demolition of the old terminal was submitted to
the Municipality.

Earlier, the Municipality’s Architectural Council gave a negative
assurance over the request of Armenia International Airports CJSC,
owned by Argentinean-Armenian businessman Eduardo Eurnekian, on
demolition of the old terminal.

ZHOGHOVURD: KHOSROV RESERVE WATCHMAN FOUND DEAD

The corpse of 50-year-old Mkhitar Sedrakyan, resident of the village of
Garni, Kotayk province, was found in Khosrov Forest Reserve yesterday
with a firearm injury in the left side of his chest.

Ashot Vardanyan, head of Garni village, told Zhoghovurd that Sedrakyan
was working as a watchman in Khosrov Reserve. He added that in all
probability, the watchman had been shot. “Nothing more is known. I
can only say that surveillance cameras will show what happened.”

ARMENIA TO HOST INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON ROBOTIZATION OF SURGERY AND ONCOLOGY

YEREVAN. – During the congress, which will be convened on Friday and
Saturday in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan, the Armenian Association of
Hematology and Oncology will discuss the prospects for the robotization
of surgeries, the association told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The event will bring together renowned specialists from Europe and
the United States.

“The prospects for the robotization of surgeries will be discussed
in Armenia for the first time,” specifically reads the Association
statement.

Dr. Inderbir Gill (USA), who is one of the world’s leading specialists
in this domain, will deliver a presentation during the congress.

The Mother See of Holy Echmiadzin will hold Friday a news conference
to declare the final results of the Bishops’ meeting which is to
decide whether and how to beatify the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

“The participants of the assembly will make a final decision on that
in the morning,” Priest Vahram Melikyan, a spokesperson for the Mother
See, told Tert.am.

He said he expects the bishops to make finally what he called a wise
decision, by declaring the Genocide victims sacred martyrs.

“The bishops of the Armenian Church have now gathered together under
the leadership of the Catholicos. They are much wiser and better
informed and will undoubtedly make a wise decision on how to beatify
[the victims]. After all, the one and a half million Armenians, who
were martyred, chose that fate to remain an Armenian and a Christian,”
he said.

The priest noted from the 17th century onwards, the Armenian Apostolic
Church has not made decision to declare anyone sacred.

“So, no one has been beatified because we did not have and use the
procedures of beatification. But didn’t the Armenian Church have
any sacred [creatures] in the past four centuries? No doubt, it had;
especially in the period of the Genocide, there were many proofs and
accounts on how people were martyred for the sake of belief,” he said.

DEFENSE ANTI-MISSILES EN TURQUIE : LA CHINE REMPORTE LE CONTRAT

d’offres de 4 milliards de dollars pour l’achat par Ankara de systèmes
de missiles anti-aeriens et de missiles de longue portee, le premier
dont sera dotee la Turquie.

Le sous-secretariat de l’Industrie de la Defense (SSM) a “decide
d’entamer les pourparlers avec la compagnie CPMIEC de la republique
populaire de Chine pour la production conjointe des systèmes et de
leurs missiles en Turquie sur le prix negocie”, selon un communique.

Les autres concurrents etaient un consortium forme des Americains
Raytheon et Lockheed Martin, le Russe Rosoboronexport, et le groupe
franco-italien Eurosam.

En janvier, l’Otan avait commence a deployer des missiles sol-air
Patriot pour proteger la Turquie d’un eventuel debordement du conflit
syrien.

Les batteries de missiles Patriot, destinees a assurer la defense du
territoire turc contre les avions et les missiles a courte portee,
ont ete fournies par les Etats-Unis, l’Allemagne et les Pays-Bas.

de l’annee academique 2013-2014 au Seminaire Theologique Gevorkian
au Saint Siège d’Etchmiadzine. Ont assiste a l’evenement les membres
de la confrerie du Saint Siège, le corps professoral , le personnel
et les etudiants du Seminaire Gevorkian.

Après la recitation de la Prière du Seigneur, et le chant des hymnes
de la Republique d’Armenie et du Seminaire Gevorkian , Sa Grâce Mgr
Gevorg Saroyan , Doyen du Seminaire Theologique Gevorkian et recteur
de tous les etablissements d’enseignement religieux du Saint Siège
d’Etchmiadzin , a prononce un discours d’ouverture.

Se felicitant du debut de la nouvelle annee scolaire , Sa Grâce a
rememore le parcours et les realisations que le Seminaire Gevorkian
a enregistre au cours de l’annee academique 2012-2013 .

Monseigneur Saroyan a egalement donne des informations sur la
participation active des seminaristes dans la predication des
programmes pastoraux , educatives et sociaux pendant leurs vacances.

Le doyen du Seminaire theologique Gevorkian a note que la nouvelle
annee scolaire sera egalement le jubile du 140e anniversaire de la
fondation du Seminaire Theologique Gevorkian . A cette occasion, Son
Excellence a annonce que tous les programmes au cours de la nouvelle
annee scolaire seront entièrement devoues a bien evaluer le chemin
creatif que le seminaire a traverse , son heritage et son impact sur
la vie des Armeniens au cours du dernier siècle .

non seulement ont renforce la patrie ,illuminant la vie du peuple
armenien et animer l’Eglise armenienne , mais aussi forge la gloire
pour la nation armenienne.

S’adressant aux seminaristes , Sa Saintete Karekine II a souligne que
la conscience d’etre les descendants de ces generations glorieuses les
pousseront a se consacrer a l’education et de faire des efforts afin
