Artsakh calls "destructive" the Baku Declaration on James Warlick

KARABAGH
Artsakh calls “destructive” the Baku Declaration on James Warlick

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh
has described the appeal of the Vice-Minister of Azerbaijan Araz
Azimov Foreign Affairs to recall the U.S. co-chair of the Minsk Group
James Warlick as “another manifestation of the destructive position of
the Azerbaijan “.

The day of the tour co-chair James Warlick in Los Angeles and Houston
to meet with Armenian and Azeri communities respectively, Baku has
stepped up its rhetoric against the U.S. diplomat and urging OSCE
officials to remember.

The Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov Azerbaijan accused James
Warlick bias, citing anonymous sources in Washington as saying that
the U.S. diplomat “has close ties with the Armenian diaspora in the
United States, which holds a strong position on the resolution of the
conflict [Nagorno-Karabakh]. ”

Azimov tried to justify his baseless allegation by saying that “even a
glance at the comments on social networks shows that the U.S. Co
prefer to communicate more with the Armenian diaspora in the United
States” according to the news agency Azeri APA. “In general, some of
his statements are provocative with rumors spread by the co-chair of a
possible escalation of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan,”
said Azimov.

“We have repeatedly expressed our concern about the activity of the
Minsk Group and the U.S. co-chair of the Minsk Group of the OSCE. We
can not condone the actions of Warlick, which reduces confidence in
the Minsk Group and undermine the negotiating process. All these
statements show that James Warlick has consciously and deliberately
took these measures to advance the interests of the Armenian side,
“said Azimov.

“All the facts mentioned above give the Azerbaijani side every reason
to be wary of co-president of the United States, refuse to work with
him and call the Chairman of the OSCE to remind the Warlick as
co-chair of the Minsk Group of the OSCE “concluded Azimov.

“This statement is another manifestation of the destructive position
of Azerbaijan aimed at undermining the format of the three co-chairs
of the Minsk Group of the OSCE and to extend artificially the
resolution of the conflict between Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh.
Such a position of Azerbaijan testifies to the absence of his
participation in the final settlement of the conflict, “said the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nagorno-Karabakh in a statement.

The Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Shavarsh Kocharian told News.am
that Baku has always criticized the co-chairs of the Minsk Group of
the OSCE in an attempt to influence their decisions in favor of the
destructive policy Azerbaijan. “This most recent U.S. co-chair Baku
criticism is another attempt to blackmail the co-chairs and blame them
for obstruction Azerbaijan resolution of the Karabakh conflict,” added
Kocharian.

** His Holiness Karekin II Meets with Pope Francis
————————————————————
His Holiness Karekin II, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All
Armenians, met with Pope Francis at the Vatican earlier today. The two
leaders met at the Apostolic Palace, the official residence of the
Pope in Vatican City, and later prayed at the Mother of the Redeemer
Chapel.

Pope Francis recalled Pope St. John Paul II’s visit to Armenia in
2001, and the visits made by His Holiness Karekin II in recent
years. `The mystery of the Cross, so dear to the memory of your
people, represented in the splendid stone crosses that adorn every
corner of your land, has been lived by countless of your children as a
direct participation in the chalice of the Passion,’ Pope Francis
said. =80=9CTheir testimony, at once high and tragic, must not be
forgotten.’

His Holiness Karekin II said that the Armenian Genocide remains an
open wound for the Armenian people. He invited Pope Francis to visit
Armenia next year to take part in the commemoration of the 100th
anniversary of the events of 1915. `In the deserts of Der Zor, Syria,
thousands of Armenians perished. They were martyrs of the first crime
committed against humanity in the 20th century,’ His Holiness
said. `And it’s truly tragic when the world does not learn lessons
from the past and allows history to repeat.’

Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, Diocesan Primate, was among the
Catholicos’ delegation. The Catholicos is in Rome on a three-day visit

** Clergy Gather for Annual Conference
————————————————————
The 112th Diocesan Assembly was preceded by a clergy conference, held
April 28 to April 30, at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in
Huntington, NY. Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, Diocesan Primate,
presided at the event where members of the clergy gathered for prayer,
services, and a series of presentations on various aspects of the
ministry.

In a written message, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and
Catholicos of All Armenians, encouraged clergy of the Eastern Diocese
to remain firm in their calling and to continue their service to the
Armenian people.

Among the presenters at the meeting were visiting priests from the
Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, Rev. Fr. Hovel Kamaghelyan and
Rev. Fr. Markos Mankasaryan. Fr. Kamaghelyan explained how the church
in Armenia is working to establish orphanages, soup kitchens, and
other social services. Fr. Mankasaryan spoke about youth programs
offered by Holy Etchmiadzin.

Another highlight was a presentation by Dr. Robert Gunn, director of
the program in pastoral care and counseling at the Blanton Peale
Institute and Counseling Center in New York City. In a presentation
titled `Love and Loss: Counseling with the Bereaved and the
Divorcing,’ Dr. Gunn stressed the importance of the priest’s role in
the healing process.

Among other topics discussed were Christian education programs,
liturgical matters, the requirements for ordination to the diaconate
and sub-diaconate, the distribution of Holy Communion during Lent, and

On Friday, May 2, the Eastern Diocese hosted a gala banquet as part of
the 112th Diocesan Assembly.

During the evening’s program, Dr. Raffy Hovanessian

at St. Vartan Armenian Cathedral and by parishes across the Eastern
Diocese last month. At the cathedral in New York the Very
Rev. Fr. Simeon Odabashian, Diocesan Vicar, celebrated the Divine
Liturgy and performed a requiem service on April 24. A blessing of
madagh took place following the service. Archbishop Khajag Barsamian,
Diocesan Primate, took part in the annual Genocide Commemoration
sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Knights and Daughters of Vartan in Times
Square on Sunday, April 27.

Parishioners at Sts. Vartanantz Church of Chelmsford, MA, gathered for

studies at Merrimack College, and Dn. Ara Jeknavorian of the Merrimack
Valley Armenian Genocide Education Committee shared their experiences
in leading discussions about the Genocide and Holocaust at local
schools and colleges. Dro Knayan, one of the founders of the genocide
education committee, provided a brief history of the outreach
program. Fr. Khachatur Kesablyan, parish pastor, said that the work of
the committee is key to teaching young people about crimes against
humanity and helping to prevent such tragedies in the future.

In Providence, Sts. Sahag and Mesrob Church hosted a concert of
remembrance. The Armenian Chorale of Rhode Island performed under the
direction of Maestro Konstantin Petrossian, with Mari Panosian and
Janna Guegamian playing the organ. Rev. Fr. Shnork Souin, parish

** Holy Week and Easter Album
————————————————————

In addition to the parish Holy Week and Easter observances we
highlighted in our April 23 newsletter, several parishes have
submitted photos from local activities.

At St. Stepanos Church in Elberon, NJ, the Sunday and Armenian School
held its annual `Easter Breakfast, Egg Hunt and Egg Cracking Contest’
on April 26. The day began with a service led by parish pastor the
Rev. Fr. Daniel Karadjian. Children then gathered in the church hall
for the breakfast and egg hunt, which was made possible by parish
families, many of whom also volunteered at the event.

Sunday School and Saturday School students at St. James Church of
Watertown, MA, took part in all Holy Week services by reading the
scriptures. A home blessing service and reception was held on Easter
Eve following the Divine Liturgy, and the Holy Week journey culminated
with the celebration of the Divine Liturgy on Easter Sunday, April 20.

The ACYOA Juniors of Holy Trinity Church of Cheltenham, PA, hosted a
Palm Sunday banquet during which they performed a skit titled `Life
Application Bible…Good News.’ Inspired by the Campbell’s Soup
`Wisest Kid’ commercial, the skit called on each ACYOA member to share
their favorite Bible verse with the parish. It was spearheaded by
ACYOA chair Ani Javardian and written by ACYOA parent advisor Leslie
Movsesian.

The Washing of the Feet ceremony at St. George Church of Hartford, CT,
was covered by the Hartford Courant. The Rev. Fr. Gomidas Zohrabian,

Summer Camps
Campers enjoy the pool at St. Vartan Camp.

** Register for Summer Camp
————————————————————
Space is still available for campers in all three sessions of
St. Vartan Camp. Founded in 1979, the program began as a one-week
project with the ACYOA Seniors. In 1980, the Rev. Fr. Paree Metjian of
blessed memory served as camp director with just 68 campers, 8
counselors, and 5 staff members. The Diocese has carried on the
tradition of St. Vartan Camp throughout the years, and now offers a
six-week program for campers and a four-day staff training
session. The camp family includes more than 300 campers, CITs, and
staff who gather each summer season at the Ararat Youth and Conference
Center in Greenville, NY.

Hye Camp, which serves the Midwest parishes, celebrated its 50th
anniversary last summer. The program began as a grassroots effort in
1963 and continues to be guided by the leadership of the Midwest
parishes. With more than 200 participants, the camp has expanded to a
two-week program and is hosted at Camp Hickory in Ingleside, IL.

Both Diocesan camps provide a physically, emotionally, and spiritually
safe environment in which young people are exposed to the faith and
heritage of the Armenian Church.

IN MEMORIAM
DIRAMAYR MARIE CHOLOYAN

Bishop Anoushavan Tanielian, Vicar General, and the Religious and
Executive Councils of the Eastern Prelacy announce with great sorrow
the passing of
Diramayr Marie Choloyan, mother of our Prelate, Archbishop
Oshagan. His Eminence left this afternoon to join his family in
Lebanon.

Diramayr Marie passed away yesterday, May 7, in Beirut, Lebanon. She
was 94 years old. She is survived by three sons, Archbishop Oshagan,
Vartan, and
Armen and a daughter, Ani. Her husband, Antranig, and two sons, Sarkis
and
Simon, predeceased her.

Funeral services will take place Saturday, May 10, at 1 pm at the
Cathedral of St. Gregory the Illuminator in Antelias,
Lebanon. Interment will follow at the Armenian National Cemetery in
Bourdj Hammoud.

In lieu-of-flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Eastern
Prelacy. Checks should be payable to Armenian Apostolic Church of
America and sent to the Armenian Prelacy, 138 East 39th Street, New
York, NY 10016.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Archbishop Oshagan and the
entire Choloyan family. We pray that All-Merciful God will receive her
soul in eternal peace and bliss. May her memory shine forth always.

VICAR ATTENDS UNVEILING OF MONUMENT

Bishop Anoushavan attended and participated in the 99th Armenian
Genocide Commemoration that took place in Vancouver, British Columbia,
where the third Canadian Genocide monument was unveiled and
consecrated on April 27 with
more than 300 people attending.

The unusual and creative monument designed by Matilda Aslizadeh is
based on an archival fingerprint of an individual who experienced the
genocide. As
described by the designer, `The fingerprint pattern is magnified so
that it begins to evoke a landscape, and the negative space of the
pattern is cut through to create a lace-like appearance. The sculpture
is raised from the ground and supported by 50 rods that line up with
an invisible map
of the geographical locations of the massacres.’

The dedication of the Armenian genocide monument in Vancouver, British
Columbia on April 27.

Flowers decorate the monument after the unveiling and dedication.

PRELATE RECEIVES HABITAT REPRESENTATIVE

Archbishop Oshagan welcomed Ms. Seda Arzoumanian, Resource Development
Manager of Habitat Armenia, to the Prelacy this morning.

APPRECIATION EVENING IN NEW JERSEY

Last Friday, May 2, the pastor and board of trustees of
Sts. Vartanantz Church hosted an `Appreciation Night,’ that honored
five long-time members of the choir, Margaret Papazian, Michael
Mirakian, Lynn Mahlebjian, Ara Dinkjian, and Zohrab Zakarian.

The evening was marked with fellowship, delicious food, and the
melodious live music by the popular Bob Aslanian (aka Bobby Lane), a
faithful parishioner of Sts. Vartanantz.

Representing Archbishop Oshagan, Bishop Anoushavan congratulated the
honorees and praised Der Hayr and the Board for an exceptional evening
and noted
the importance of honoring individuals who have served the church with
devoted distinction for decades.

VICAR AT STS. VARTANANTZ CHURCH

Bishop Anoushavan celebrated the Divine Liturgy and delivered the
Sermon at Sts. Vartanantz Church, Ridgefield, New Jersey last Sunday,
May 3. Following the Liturgy, His Grace offered his presentation that
commemorates the 50th anniversary of the passing of Catholicos Zareh I
(1963), and the 30th anniversary of the passing of Khoren I
(1983). The Vicar has been delivering
this presentation at many parishes in the United States, as well as in
Canada, during 2013. Sunday’s event in New Jersey was the final
presentation. Also taking part in the program were students of the
Nareg Saturday
School who provided stirring recitations and angelic singing.

The Vicar has prepared books in Armenian and English based on his
presentation about the two Catholicoi. Bishop Anoushavan acknowledged
three people in the audience who helped produce the books, namely,
Hourig Papazian-Sahagian who translated the Armenian into English;
Iris Papazian, the editor of the English edition, and Dr. Carlo
Bayrakdarian, the benefactor of both the
Armenian and English editions.

BIBLE READINGS

Note: Beginning last April 28 and continuing until Pentecost (June 8),
each day four Gospels are read in the following order: (1)
Morning=80’Luke; (2) Midday-John; (3) Evening-Matthew; (4) Evening
dismissal-Mark.

Bible readings for Sunday, May 8, Red Sunday are: 1) Luke 9:18-36; 2)
Acts
13:16-43; 1 Peter 5:1-14; John 5:19-30:12; 3) Matthew 11:25-30; 4)
Mark 4:26-34.

Now as an elder myself and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as
well as one who shares in the glory to be revealed, I exhort the
elders among you to tend the flock of God that is in your charge,
exercising the oversight, not under compulsion but willingly, as God
would have you do it-not for sordid gain but eagerly. Do not lord it
over those in your charge, but be examples to the flock. And when the
chief shepherd appears, you will win the crown of glory that never
fades away. In the same way, you who are younger must accept the
authority of the elders. And all of you must clothe
yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for `God
opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that he
may exalt you in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him, because he
cares for you. Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion
your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to
devour. Resist him, steadfast
in your faith, for you know that your brothers and sisters in all the
world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering. And after you have
suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you
to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, support,
strengthen, and establish you. To him be the power forever and
ever. Amen.

Through Silvanus, whom I consider a faithful brother, I have written
this short letter to encourage you and to testify that this is the
true grace of
God. Stand fast in it. Your sister church in Babylon, chosen together
with
you, sends you greetings; and so does my son Mark. Greet one another
with a kiss of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ. (1 Peter
5:1014)

RED SUNDAY

This Sunday, May 11, is the fourth Sunday of Eastertide, known as Red
Sunday (Garmir Giragi). The name does not have an ecclesiastical
origin. Red is
the color of blood and this may be an appropriate time to honor the
memory
of the early Christian martyrs.

The name Red Sunday is also believed to refer to the burst of color
that comes forth from the land after a barren winter. Similar to last
week’s Green Sunday, it is a celebration of nature and life,
symbolizing rebirth after the Resurrection of our Lord.

NEWS FROM THE CATHOLICOSATE

CONSECRATION OF BISHOPS

Three clergymen were elevated to the rank of bishop on the weekend of
April 26-27, in Antelias. The ordination ceremony began on Saturday
evening in the Cathedral of St. Gregory the Illuminator where His
Holiness Aram presided over the ritual of the examination of the faith
of Very Rev. Meghrig Parikian (Prelacy of Canada), Very Rev. Krikor
Chiftjian (Prelacy of Aderbadagan), and Very Rev. Magar Ashekian
(Prelacy of Tehran). Following the reading of the recommendations of
the Dioceses requesting their ordination and prayers, His Holiness led
them to the ceremony of the confession of the true Orthodox faith. The
priests confessed their faith, signed papers and vowed to remain loyal
to the Catholicosate of Cilicia, to His Holiness Aram I, and to the
Church and its faithful.

On Sunday, His Holiness consecrated the foreheads and right hands of
the three priests with Holy Muron, gave them their Episcopal rings and
pronounced them Bishops. In his message, the Catholicos described the
vocation of the episcopate as service, obedience, humility, and
accountability to the people.

At the conclusion of the two-day ordination and consecration ceremony,
His
Holiness received the new bishops and the pilgrims who had accompanied
them.

ROMAN CATHOLIC BISHOPS VISIT

A delegation of German bishops, headed by Archbishop Ludwig Schick,
met with His Holiness Aram I, as part of their fact-finding trip in
the region concerning the situation of Christians in the Middle
East. After describing the situation, His Holiness emphasized the
importance of strengthening the internal unity of Christians and
providing assistance to the communities to help displaced
families. The Catholicos described the difficulties facing Armenians
in Syria. He also spoke about the 100th anniversary commemorations
of the Armenian Genocide in 2015. The visit ended with an agreement to
strengthen relations between the Catholicosate of Cilicia and the
Roman Catholic Church in Germany.

Now, there is a word that makes trouble, ooghi (Õ¸Ö=82Õ²Õ«)
`road,’ which is a synonym of jampa and janabarh. Many usual words are
derived from ooghi and are all related to the notion of =80=9Croad’ or
`travel,’ such as:

ooghargel (Õ¸Ö=82Õ²Õ¡Ö=80Õ¯Õ¥Õ¬ `to send’)

hooghargavorootioon (ÕµÕ¸Ö=82Õ²Õ¡Ö=80Õ¯Õ¡Ö=82Õ¸Ö=80Õ¸Ö=82Õ©Õ«Ö=82Õ¶
`gravesite service,’ when you send the soul of the deceased to its
final rest)

ooghevorootioon (Õ¸Ö=82Õ²Õ¥Ö=82Õ¸Ö=80Õ¸Ö=82Õ©Õ«Ö=82Õ¶ `travel’)

yergatooghi (Õ¥Ö=80Õ¯Õ¡Õ©Õ¸Ö=82Õ²Õ« =80=9Crailway’)

Many people tend to confuse ooghi with ooghigh, perhaps due to the
closeness of meanings between `direction’ and `travel,’ and to write,
for instance, ooghargel with two gh (Õ¸Ö=82Õ²Õ²Õ¡Ö=80Õ¯Õ¥Õ¬), which is
plainly wrong. How do you avoid common spelling mistakes of this kind?

Memo to yourself: if you write any Armenian word related to the
English concept of right, whether the root is Anglo-Saxon
(`straight’), Latin (`direct’) or Greek (`ortho’), you
are dealing with ooghigh (Õ¸Ö=82Õ²Õ«Õ²). If you remember
that, you will always be using two gh-s and you will always
be… right.

(*) Ooghigh, of unknown origin, entered the Armenian language in the
fifth
century. Its synonym shidag (Õ·Õ«Õ¿Õ¡Õ¯), of equally unknown origin,
appeared in the Low Middle Ages. Although both are utilized
interchangeably, shidag has a more colloquial use and cannot be always
used
as a full synonym of ooghigh.

THIS WEEK IN ARMENIAN HISTORY
(Prepared by the Armenian National Education Committee[ANEC])

Death of Stepanos Nazariantz
(May 9, 1879)

The nineteenth century was a period of awakening for Armenians both in
the
Ottoman and the Russian Empire. In Russia, one of its pioneers was
Stepanos Nazariantz, a journalist, teacher, and orientalist.

He was born on May 27, 1812, in Tiflis (now Tbilisi), in the family of
a priest. The Nersisian Lyceum, founded by the primate of the Armenian
Apostolic Church in Georgia, Nerses Ashtaraketsi, was opened in 1824,
and Nazariantz studied there between 1824 and 1829. He became also one
of the first Armenian students of the Caucasus to study in Dorpat (now
Tartu, in Estonia), which had one of the best, German-speaking
universities in the Russian Empire.

In Dorpat, Nazariantz first studied at the gymnasium for a year
(1833-1834) and then at the schools of Medicine (1835-1836) and
Philosophy (1836-1840). He wrote his doctoral dissertation on the work
of Persian poet Ferdowsi,
Shahnameh (Book of Kings). From 1842-1849 he was the chair of the
Armenian
language department at the University of Kazan. Later he moved to
Moscow, where he was professor of Persian language and literature at
the famous Lazarian Lyceum until his death. From 1869-1871 he was also
principal of the lyceum.

Influenced by European enlightenment and Russian social movements of
the 1840s, Nazariantz wrote against the ruling feudal system and its
ideology. He was a fervent advocate of modernization, as well as of
patriotic ideas, such as the struggle against Turkish domination. He
saw education as the key
of Armenian progress, and supported the development of secular
instruction
and methods of pedagogy that were consistent and age-appropriate. He
advocated the use of Modern Armenian, and perhaps his greatest
achievement was the publication of the monthly Hiusisapayl (Aurora
Borealis, 1858-1864), together with his younger associate Mikayel
Nalbandian, which had an important
role in the development of Eastern Armenian. The monthly became the
voice of progressive ideas, and ran afoul of the Armenian
establishment due to the discussion of sensitive issues, such as his
criticism of serfdom and clerical power. Nazariantz and Nalbandian
developed principles to modernize literary criticism among Armenians.

Nazariantz wrote a number of books in Russian (A Brief Survey of
Thirteenth Century Armenian Literature, 1844; A Survey of Armenian
Literature in the
Modern Period, 1846) and Armenian (Discourse on Experimental
Psychology, 1853; First Spiritual Nutrition for Armenian Children,
1853; Source Book of Religion, 1854, and Review of Modern Armenian
Speaking, 1857). He also wrote poetry and translated many works,
including those of Swiss poet Friedrich
Schiller. He passed away on May 9, 1879, in Moscow.

Le Taux De Mortalite Infantile En Armenie En Baisse De 16%

LE TAUX DE MORTALITE INFANTILE EN ARMENIE EN BAISSE DE 16%

ARMENIE

2012. L’an dernier 41 770 bébés ont vu le jour contre 42 480 en 2012.

Le Soutien D’Erevan a Moscou Pourrait Se Retourner Contre L’Armenie

LE SOUTIEN D’EREVAN A MOSCOU POURRAIT SE RETOURNER CONTRE L’ARMENIE

ARMENIE

a déclaré Badasyan a l’IWPR.

essentiellement autoritaires, isolés a l’échelle internationale ”.

Eurovision Semi-Final One: See The Results

EUROVISION SEMI-FINAL ONE: SEE THE RESULTS

MTV, UK
May 7 2014

Russia makes it through, but singers get booed by crowd…

11:25, Wednesday, 07 May 2014

The results are in from the first semi-final of this year’s Eurovision
Song Contest in Denmark.

Russia’s Tomlachevy Sisters made the cut with their song Shine,
despite getting booed on the night because of their country’s anti-gay
legislation.

The other nine nations to get through included Armenia, Hungary,
Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Sweden, The Netherlands and Iceland.

San Marino and Montenegro also reached the final – set to be broadcast
this weekend – for the first time.

Russia’s 17-year-old siblings were expected to face a backlash over the
controversial homophobic stance taken by Vladimir Putin’s government
and its invasion of Ukraine.

Ukraine’s effort also made the final, despite its singer reportedly
being a Putin fan.

The UK, France, Italy, Spain and Germany get a free pass to the final
each year because they fund the majority of the contest. Denmark will
be in the final as the reigning champion.

The second semi-final is being held tomorrow.

Armenia: A New Balance Of Forces

ARMENIA: A NEW BALANCE OF FORCES

Vestnik Kavkaza, Russia
May 7 2014

7 May 2014 – 1:26pm

Susanna Petrosyan, Yerevan. Exclusively to Vestnik Kavkaza

The National Assembly of Armenia (NA) elected the head of the faction
of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), Galusta Saakyan, to the
speaker’s position. His only rival was a member of the opposition
faction of the Armenian National Congress (ANC), Grant Bagratyan. Only
three MPs out of 106 voted for Bagratyan, who didn’t agreed his
independent nomination with the ANC.

A day before the elections the NA approved the RPA’s proposal on a
reshuffle in the Audit Commission and changes in the proportion of
its participants. Now the Audit Commission should include 13 members
instead of the previous 11 members, the majority of them (7 people)
are MPs from the RPA.

The situation became difficult for the ruling party after the Rule
of Law party withdrew from the coalition. And the Republicans faced
the problem of maintaining a majority in the Audit Commission. On
April 28th the RPA carried out the necessary changes and held
the demanded seats. At the same time, the law on National Assembly
regulations forbids forming a new Audit Commission before the end of
a parliamentary session.

Along with victorious statements by the authorities, who ascribe
the victory to the wonderful personal skills of Galust Saakyan, the
question is: why did the invincible RPA and its sinless candidate need
urgent changes to the law? The answer is obvious – for guaranteeing
“normal” voting and counting votes within the framework of the
well-regulated electoral technologies provided by the authorities.

Of course a certain number of MPs from Prosperous Armenia and Rule
of Law voted for Saakyan, but this circumstance doesn’t play a big
role for the RPA, which has to act under a new balance of forces and
new conditions.
