They try to cheat workers in Armenia: Syrian Armenian

13:29 | November 1,2014 | Social

Three Syrian Armenian friends opened shoe factory in Yerevan. Gevorg
Safar is the shoe designer. He learnt the skills from his grandfather
and father. His models even appeared on famous Italian magazines.

Now the production is consumed only in Armenia and only in some shops.
They want to export their products into Russian market: joining the
EEU made them very happy.

They bring raw materials from Turkey, as there is no production of
leather, sole and other materials in Armenia. Andranik Safar’s father
wonders why famous shoe factories aren’t restored, “Why must we go to
Turkey and make their country powerful so that they can earn money due
to us. What do we lack? Let’s bring raw materials from abroad and let
them work here,”- says Gevorg Safar.

They say that the best masters of Armenia work here. Andranik Safar
makes sure that they try to support them as much as they can, “They
try to cheat workers in Armenia. But the craftsman must go to work and
return home with pleasure. This is important for us.”

At first it is difficult for Syrian Armenian young people to work in
Armenia, lifestyle, outlooks, taste differ and what’s the most
important, “Confidence is the most important, which is very difficult
to find here,”- says Andranik Safar.

French-Armenians launch active campaign ahead of Genocide centennial

French-Armenians launch active campaign ahead of Genocide centennial

13:02 * 01.11.14

Ahead of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, a civic group
of French-Armenians has launched a website as part of the pan-national
efforts towards raising awareness of the tragic event and demanding
recognition and reparation.

Speaking to Tert.am, Hrachya Aslanyan, Head of the Diaspora Ministry’s
Department of Armenian Communities of Europe, said the campaign,
“#2015RTAG. Recognize The Armenian Genocide”, has been initiated by
Armenians of Marseilles under the leadership of the community
activists Ani Stepanov and Richard Findikyan.

“My connection with this initiative is limited only to the extent that
I am from Marseilles, and I was asked to offer my assistance to make
the movement more popular. I informed the minister of the initiative,
and the very first day, she was photographed with the poster [bearing
the slogan] ‘#2015RTAG. Recognize The Armenian Genocide’ and later
spread it. First Lady Rita Sargsyan and Minister of Culture Hasmik
Poghosyan followed suit; they were later joined by Fetin Çetin, an
ethnic Armenian lawyer in the Hrant Dink [case], and well-known public
figures,” he said.

Aslanyan added that the Ministry later called for active efforts
towards involving all the Diaspora communities, individuals, officials
and foreign legislators in the movement.

The group later embarked on creating the seven-language website which
has already attracted over 6,000 fans on Facebook since its launch
last week.

“If we achieve something great, we’ll clearly decide on, and
coordinate with different communities, the next steps. We are now
planning on a footage featuring scenes of Genocide, each episode of
which will be introduced by well-known Armenians from across the
globe,” he said, expressing further his hope that the initiative will
really gain popularity.

Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan says she really feels happy that
the initiators were Marseilles-Armenians and local city authorities.
“We, naturally, work with our communities every day, and our first
approach was that we have to be a direct participant. As different
public figures visit the Ministry, we offer them to join the
movement,” she said.

Hakobyan described the move as a major moral impetus in terms of
raising the youth’s awareness of history. “I think recognition is a
for politicians of those countries which are still lingering and
haven’t recognized the Genocide to date,” she added.

The minister said she believes that the initiative will have a great
impact on the world community, whose active involvement in the
campaign will be a great stimulus in moving ahead with the Genocide
recognition efforts. “Our slogan is, I Remember and Demand. And
remembering, we demand the reinstatement of the lost rights, the
community and pan-national rights.”

The minister further hailed the Greek parliament’s September 9 bill
criminalizing the Armenian Genocide. “I think any step is a success,”
she said, adding that she doesn’t any surprise move by Turkey ahead of
April 24. “I don’t think Turkey will recognize the Genocide on or
ahead of the centennial day, but Turkey too, faces an identity crisis,
with the society beginning to recognize its history. And that’s a
fact. That’s an outcome of the movement. The fact that hundreds and
thousands of people in Turkey have started identifying themselves is
already a big achievement.”

HOLY MARTYRS CHURCH OF ENCINO
CELEBRATES 51 YEARS OF SERVICE

On Sunday, October 26, 2014, Holy Martyrs Church of Encino was
filled beyond capacity as the community had come together for the 51st
anniversary of the consecration of the Church, which was celebrated with
Episcopal Divine Liturgy and blessing of madagh. H.E. Archbishop Moushegh
Mardirossian, Prelate, conducted the services and delivered his message to
the parish community. Among the faithful in attendance were Executive
Council Chair Mr. Vahe Hovaguimian, delegates, community representatives,
Sunday School and Ferrahian 8th grade students.
The Prelate thanked the Lord for the day and extended his greetings
to the gathering of church, school, and organizational members,
congratulating them on the special occasion and wishing them many more
anniversary celebrations to come. His Eminence reminded them that the
church is a body of believers and the altar is the light radiating faith,
hope, and love to the community. He noted that requiem prayers would be
offered later in the service in memory of all departed church servants,
adding, “Let their faith and pledge of service inspire you all today”. Next
the Prelate turned this attention to the day’s feast, the Discovery of the
Holy Cross, the message of which, he stated, is summarized beautifully by
the words of the feast’s hymn, “Source of Life (Genats Payd), un-concealable
treasure which the Jews attempted to conceal, revealed by the Empress; let
us worship”. His Eminence gave some background information on the feast,
explaining that the Cross was discovered in the year 326 by the efforts of
the Empress Helena, mother of the Roman Emperor Constantine. The excavation
led to the discovery of three Crosses, and it was only when a recently
deceased young man came to life on one of them, that it was revealed as the
True Cross.
With the True Cross, said the Prelate, what was formerly a symbol of
death was transformed into the symbol of life, and all who believed lived a
new and enlightened life. Citing from the day’s Scripture reading, he
reiterated that there are those for whom the preaching of the Cross is
foolishness, but to us believers he said, it is the power of God. People
today strive to meet societal standards for success and well-being. They are
plagued by worry and fears and seek comfort in worldly things. We must seek
the comfort of the eternal kingdom instead, said the Prelate, because our
lives become enriched when we enrich our souls. Addressing the parents
specifically, he recognized the great sacrifices they make to provide a good
life for their children, but he urged them to place as much effort on the
spiritual nourishment of their children.
“Today, let us be renewed by the message of the Cross as the path to
salvation. Let us surrender our troubles and place our utmost faith and
trust in the power of the Cross. Let us be renewed also in our adherence to
our religious and national values and guide our children to develop into
good Christians and Armenians and our capable leaders of tomorrow”, advised
the Prelate, and concluded by calling on all to embrace the responsibilities
entrusted to each one of them as children of the Armenian church and nation
and to serve for the progress of both in the with the vision of “the church
builders, laborers, and all who served and now rest in the heavenly abode”.
Later in the service, on behalf of the parish community, Rev. Fr.
Razmig Khatchadourian expressed gratitude to the Prelate for presiding over
the celebration, thanked all of the day’s sponsors for their donations in
memory of loved ones, and thanked the Ladies Guild for preparing the madagh.
Following the requiem service, the Prelate was escorted by a
procession through the courtyard, where Homenetmen scouts were standing at
attention, to Avedissian Hall for the blessing of madagh. The Prelate
delivered the benediction, and the day’s celebration came to a close with
Cilicia and the Armenian National Anthem.

Tekeyan Poetry Celebrated in Toronto

Tekeyan Poetry Celebrated in Toronto

ADL, INTERNATIONAL NEWS | NOVEMBER 2, 2014 10:31 AM
________________________________

TORONTO — The Tekeyan Cultural Association of Toronto held a book
signing evening at its center on Friday, October 17, with a capacity
crowd attending.

Two books of Vahan Tekeyan poetry were presented at the affair.

George Tutunjian, president of the TCA Chapter, served as the master
of ceremonies. He invited his brother, Jirayr Tutunjian, editor and
writer, to make a presentation of Tekeyan’s bilingual book translated
by Gerald Papasian and John Papasian, and edited by Edmond Azadian and
Gerald Papasian.

Although he spoke in English, his command of the Armenian language and
knowledge of Armenian literature were impressive. He made an incisive
analysis of the books, offering his evaluation of rendering Tekeyan’s
poetry in English.

Silva Sahakian, a veteran performer on Toronto stages, recited three
poems by Tekeyan. Edmond Azadian was invited for concluding remarks.
He thanked the participants in the program and then he dwelt on the
publication of the twin books on Tekeyan. The Armenian version was
intended for readers in Armenia, where the poet is not a very familiar
figure. The bilingual book was intended to an international audience.
The introductions of both books, authorized by Azadian, have different
thrusts and direction.
A reception followed the program during which time the participants
approached the guest speaker for the significance of the book.

Georgia first to benefit from re-operation of Abkhaz railway section

Georgia first to benefit from re-operation of Abkhaz railway section –
Vahagn Chakhalyan

13:36 * 02.11.14

Vahagn Chakhalyan, Board member of the United Javakhk bloc, is sure
the Abkhaz railway section can be re-operated.

“I am sure this railway section must be re-opened because it meets
Georgia’s interests – not only in the economic, but also in the
political respect – because it will enable them to have more active
contacts with Abkhazia,” he told Tert.am.

Turkey and Azerbaijan have serious economic influence on Georgia and
may press it into making decisions in their favor.

When a statement on Georgia’s readiness for re-operation of the
Abkhazian railway section was made in Armenia, official Tbilisi
refuted it a few days later.

“Later we knew it was under Azerbaijan’s pressure,” Mr Chakhalyan said.

In private talks Georgian officials said that Georgia is ready to
re-operate the railways section, but the Abkhaz side objects. Talks
about re-operation of the railway section are more active now.

BAKU: Turkey, France Mull Karabakh Conflict Settlement Issue

TURKEY, FRANCE MULL KARABAKH CONFLICT SETTLEMENT ISSUE

Trend, Azerbaijan
Oct 31 2014

31 October 2014, 16:55 (GMT+04:00)

By Emil Ismayilov, Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:

Turkey and France have discussed the issue of settlement of the
Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, French President
Francois Hollande said.

He made the remarks during a joint briefing with Turkish President
Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Paris on Oct.31, TRT Haber TV channel reported.

The sides also discussed the activities of the OSCE Minsk Group in
the settlement of the conflict.

The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan began in 1988 when Armenia
made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing
war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan,
including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs
of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently
holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council’s four
resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the
surrounding regions.
