Iran Transfers Uranium Enrichment Activities Southwest Of Tehran

IRAN TRANSFERS URANIUM ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES SOUTHWEST OF TEHRAN

PanARMENIAN.Net – Iran will transfer its 20 percent uranium enrichment
activities to the Fordo site, southwest of Tehran, and triple its
production capacity, the country’s nuclear chief said Wednesday.

“We will transfer the 20 percent enrichment from Natanz to the Fordo
site this year, under the supervision of the (International Atomic
Energy) Agency,” Fereydoon Abbasi Davani was quoted as saying by
state television’s website.

“We will also triple the (production) capacity. The 20 percent
enrichment will not be stopped at Natanz until the production level
is three times higher than its current rate,” he said, AFP reported.

Revelations in 2009 about the construction of the Fordo plant, near
the holy Shiite city of Qom and about 150 kilometers (94 miles)
southwest of Tehran, prompted the United Nations to strengthen
sanctions against Tehran.

Iran informed the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency in February
that the Fordo site was prepared to host centrifuges – machines
which enrich uranium at supersonic speed — and that it would become
operational in the summer.

Armenian Condemns Demolition Of Andranik’S Statue In Sochi

ARMENIAN CONDEMNS DEMOLITION OF ANDRANIK’S STATUE IN SOCHI

Tert.am
08.06.11

Sardarapat movement has issued a statement, protesting against the
demolition of legendary Armenian hero, General Andranik Ozanyan’s
statue in the Russian town of Sochi.

The monument built by Armenian artist Marat Minasyan was to open on May
28, the day Armenia celebrates the anniversary of its First Republic.

But after it was erected, the mayor of Sochi, Anatoli Pakhomov, issued
a decision, urging the Armenians to tear it down. The statutue was
demolished on May 27.

“Such measure is strictly prohibited,” Pakhomov said. “The Turks
have promised to torpedo the 2014 Sochi Olymopics should the statue
be erected in the town,” Pakhpmov said.

Condemning the decision, the activists of the movement claim that the
Russian political circles and local government bodies coordinate all
their steps with Turkey.

“The Armenians received yet another blow. And that was not absolutely
due to a new Russian-Turkish flirt, but rather -the absence of a real
Armenian statehood and state institutions called to fulfill their
tasks,” says the statement.

The members of Sardarapat call on their compatriots in Armenia, Russia
and abroad to voice their protest against what they call an illegal
and politically ignorant decision, and stand on the protection of
the Armenian nation’s dignity.

OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs Meet NKR President

OSCE MINSK GROUP CO-CHAIRS MEET NKR PRESIDENT

ARMENPRESS
June 8, 2011
STEPANAKERT

President of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Bako Sahakyan met today
with the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs Robert Bradtke (the USA), Bernard
Fassier (France) and Igor Popov (Russia) who arrived in Stepanakert on
the eve. After the meeting, that lasted about two hours, the co-chairs
came forth with a short briefing.

Before answering to the questions of reporters, Bernard Fassier noted
that passing the line of contact from Azerbaijan was a positive signal:
if the military leadership is ready to give security guarantees for
passing the line of contact it shows that it is possible to maintain
the cease-fire regime.

“We hope that our periodical visits across the line of contact will
allow in near future to stop the violations of cease fire regime”,
the French co-chair said.

Speaking about the meeting with the NKR President, Robert Bradtke said
that he presented information about the visit of foreign ministers
of Armenia and Azerbaijan to Washington. “I would like to note that
after the meetings with the two ministers US Secretary of State Hilary
Clinton stated that the usage of force is unacceptable. The resuming
of war between the parties will not bring any result as it is not a
way of settlement of the conflict”, Bradtke noted, saying that the
United States are resolute in the peaceful settlement of the conflict.

Igor Popov noted that during the meeting with the NKR President they
talked about the coming meeting of Nalbandian and Mammadyarov, during
which the issue on finalizing the basic principles will be discussed.

“If they succeed in agreeing over the basic principles, they will be
clarified at the meeting of Presidents Sargsyan and Aliev. In this
respect I must note that the call in the Deauville statement over
the speeded-up settlement of the conflict gives additional impulses
to this work,” Popov said.

In response to the question what the changed Madrid principles include,
Popov said that permanent work is being carried out for agreeing over
basic principles and “changed Madrid principles” definition as such
does not exist for him. “As of today we have a project but there are
a number of issues that need to be discussed and the foreign ministers
of the conflicting parties deal with them”, Popov said.

Bernard Fassier added that the final variant of the discussed
principles is the same as the one adopted during the recent meeting
of presidents in Sochi. The French co-chair said today in the evening
they are arriving in Yerevan to meet with President Serzh Sargsyan
and Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian.

Vice-Premier Of Armenia: Interstate Cooperation Between CIS Countrie

VICE-PREMIER OF ARMENIA: INTERSTATE COOPERATION BETWEEN CIS COUNTRIES IN THE SPHERE OF GEODESY, CARTOGRAPHY AND CADASTRE TO BE EXPANDED

/ARKA/
June 8, 2011
YEREVAN

YEREVAN, June 8. /ARKA/. Interstate cooperation between CIS countries
in the sphere of geodesy, cartography and cadastre will be expanded,
said Armenian Vice-Premier, Minister of Territorial Administration
Armen Gevorgyan.

“It is conditioned by further intensive development of economic
relations as on interstate level, as well as on the level of separate
market participants in CIS territory”, he said during the 31st session
of interstate council on geodesy, cartography, cadastre and distance
zoning of the land of CIS countries.

Gevorgyan emphasized the necessity of closer interrelation in the
sphere of real estate cadastre with the purpose of unification
of cadastre data and creation of unified information resource on
information and data exchange of the real estate subject.

Such a development can serve a pre-condition for strengthening
cooperation in the sphere of real estate market, increase of investment
attraction of real estate markets of CIS participant-countries.

“I am confident that there are large prospects of mutually beneficial
cooperation and the necessity of further strengthening of relations
between all organizations submitted in this session”, he said.

Head of State Real Estate cadastre Yervand Zakharyan said that
taking into account modern rates of geodesy, cartography and distance
zoning development of Earth, as well as regular investments of new
information technologies, local development of these spheres is not
practically possible.

“Achievements of modern science in the conditions of convergent
world information society is not possible to limit by state borders”,
he said.

The first post-soviet years were not favorable for geodesy and
cartography in all the countries and the lack of proper financing and
breakdown of the formed professional relations could not influence
on the development of these spheres.

“However, we could maintain our professional potential in some way
which has been accumulated with joint efforts in our countries during
years”, said Zakharyan.

The Head of Federal Service of registration of cadastre and cartography
of Russian federation (Rosreestr), Head of interstate council on
geodesy, cartography and distance zoning of Earth of CIS countries
Sergey Vasilyev clarified that the main goal of the given session
is not only to carry put decisions for future, but to discuss the
results of activities of the previous session which are summarized
twice a year.

“The most important thing is to maintain the total space”, he said.

Representatives of authorized bodies of Armenia, Russia, Belarus,
Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan participated in the
activities of 31st session. The agenda of the session includes reports
on geodesy and cartography of State Real Estate Cadastre of Armenia.

The project of electronic database on renaming geographical names
will also be presented at the session.

Yeraz Dance Ensemble Pursues Its Dream

YERAZ DANCE ENSEMBLE PURSUES ITS DREAM
By: Tom Vartabedian

Wed, Jun 8 2011

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their
dreams.”

-Eleanor Roosevelt

NEW YORK-Karnig Nercessian had a dream. As an accomplished dancer,
he sought out to launch his own company 12 years ago.

Tigran Dumanyan goes airborne with the Yeraz Dance Ensemble of
New York. (Tom Vartabedian photo) Joined by his able assistant Lena
Orangian, the two choreographers formed what is today the Yeraz Dance
Ensemble, housed at St. Sarkis Church in the Queens section of New
York, which boasts a vast Armenian population.

The two answered a request from His Grace Anoushavan Tanielian-then a
priest-to form a dance company and provide for the cultural enhancement
of their heritage. “Yeraz” translates out to “dream” in Armenian.

>From humble beginnings in the fall of 1999, the group rose from
8 dancers to over 90 today, giving performances near and far with
both a youth and adult ensemble and a dedicated complement of adult
volunteers.

“One part of us will never change,” says Nercessian. “We’re
community-oriented. That’s how we started, performing to small picnics
and church socials. We were a breath of fresh air and people loved
watching us. That part of it hasn’t changed. But we’ve grown more
refined over time.”

Had you been on this year’s ACAA Heritage Cruise, they rocked the
stage with two exhilarating shows. One took place at midnight to a
packed house. There’s talk now of a return.

A more recent visit to Merrimack Valley, in Massachusetts, on May 1
commemorated the 96th anniversary of Armenian Genocide with an opening
number that simulated the eternal flame at the Dzidzernagapert Memorial
in Yerevan with the 12 pylons while engaged to the haunting strains of
“Dle Yaman.”

Prior to this, the troupe honored an invitation by the Armenian Relief
Society to perform at George Washington University in D.C.

It’s no garden party. Rehearsals take place every Friday night from
8 to midnight and attendance is mandatory. Discipline remains in high
order with no exceptions. Two groups comprise the ensemble: a younger
(ages 5-13) and an older (ages 14-22). Several are in college.

Of those attending school, most all are honors students, despite the
time constraints. One dancer remained in a hotel cramming for college
finals during that Merrimack Valley appearance while the others were
enjoying dinner at a nearby church the night before.

“We’re an extremely regimented group-you have to be,” says Nercessian.

“The commitment and sacrifice our dancers have shown spills out onto
a stage before appreciative audiences. All I ask in return is respect.

Our intent is to become an advocate of the Armenian performing arts.”

Many of the steps originated from the villages and mountains of
Armenia dating back over centuries. Others are more contemporary. The
two groups weave in and out like a fine tapestry. Costuming is a
cornucopia of color.

Brother-sister duo Tonya and Hovnan Orangian display their youthful
flare with the Yeraz Dance Ensemble of New York. (Tom Vartabedian
photo) Nercessian is no tenderfoot when it comes to dance. Born
in Kessab, Syria, he immigrated to New York with his family and
found solace on the stage in 1974 with the Hamazkayin “Akhtamar”
Ensemble. Two years later, he was performing with the AGBU Antranig
Ensemble at places like Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall.

After two decades with Antranig, it was time to branch out and start
his own company.

Acting has been another passion with the entertainer, having performed
a variety of roles with the Tekeyan Cultural Association of New Jersey
as well as New York’s Hamazkayin Theater Group directed by Dr. Herand
Markarian, a noted playwright.

It’s been nothing short of a family affair for the 55-year-old,
joined by his wife Ani as general manager; daughter Maria as assistant
director; a son Hagop; and cousin Shant Simonian. Five members of
the immediate family have been there from the outset after propelling
the enterprise.

“We travel together, eat together, dancing together, and commiserate
together,” he points out. “If something tragic happens, we all feel
the torment. If it’s a happy occasion, we share in the joy. It’s
really been an extended family life. We’re cultivating relationships.

If nothing else, the dancers are keeping their heritage alive.”

In a world governed by economics and high business standards, this
ensemble doesn’t charge. A stipend is welcomed to subsidize shoes and
costume costs. What’s earned through fundraisers and contributions
helps to subsidize the budget.

In return, they get private lessons, access to a performing arts
center, a lineup of concerts and venues like the cruise.

Choreographers and stagehands work for gratis. Christina Vandian is
an accomplished artist whose work is often integrated.

Slightly less than half are from abroad and both sides complement one
another nicely, according to Nercessian. Dancing aside, the itinerary
also calls for songs, instruments, and poem recitations. One small
highlight is the voice of 11-year-old Zovinar Aghavian, taking after
her operatic mom. Another might be the brother-sister tandem of Tonya
and Hovnan Orangian.

The elder Orangian has been dancing since age 5 and has been through
the circuit, now teaching the girls of this troupe.

“It takes a lot of patience, persistence, and determination to
dance with heart and soul,” she says emphatically. “The energy is
infectious.”

After six years of development, Yeraz made its debut before a thousand
patrons at Queensborough Community College. Since then, there’s barely
an empty seat in the theater. Their appearances in parades have also
drawn loud applause.

Much can also be said about the tutelage of Vanoush Khanamirian,
a former director of the State Dance Ensemble of Armenia, who worked
with the ensemble for an entire month.

Nothing would please Nercessian and his colleagues more than to see
their young dancers someday find their way to Armenia and dance before
the foothills of Mount Ararat.

That would realize the ultimate dream.

Armenia’s stance makes new war over Karabakh inevitable – Azerbaijani
Defense Ministry The administration of Armenia is constantly disrupting
peace talks on the settlement of the Nagorny Karabakh conflict,
which makes a war inevitable,” Azerbaijani Defense Ministry press
officer Eldar Sabiroglu said.

“Eventually, Azerbaijani soldiers will meet the expectations of the

liberate the occupied land from the enemy,” Sabiroglu told a press

Azerbaijan is preparing for this, Sabiroglu said. “The enemy should
know that,” he said.

Sabiroglu said the Azerbaijani army’s combat preparedness is now much
better than the Armenian army’s.

Sabiroglu accused Armenia of dragging out a peaceful solution to the
conflict and fuelling tensions on the line of contact of the Armenian
and Azerbaijani troops, including by provocations such as the recent
killing of a 9-year old Azerbaijani boy, who was killed in the yard
of his home in the are located close to the frontline.

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry official’s press conference was

of the Azerbaijani armed forces.
