BUSINESS OWNERS SEND LETTER TO PRESIDENT, ASK FOR HELP

Owners of about 34 stalls located in an underground passage on the
crossing of Abovyan and Koryun streets have sent an open letter to
Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan, asking for help.

In the letter, the business owners inform the president that the
Yerevan Municipality has decided to sell the whole underground by an
auction, asking him to mediate so that the area will be directly sold
to them.

“If the Yerevan Municipality has decided to sell the underground
passage on the crossing of Abovyan-Koryun [streets] by an auction,
then it would be moral and logical, if it would be directly sold
to those business owners who have been working there for 25 years,”
read the letter.

“The aforementioned business owners have for several years now been
renovating, improving and preserving the underground passage mentioned,
though those problems were a direct duty of the municipal authorities,”
the letter read.

Further, they mentioned that those stalls are the only source of
income for their families, adding that if the president does not
interfere in the issue, they will have to emigrate from

The foreign ministers of Armenia and Georgia discussed in Austria
possible mutual visits of their presidents. Nothing is reported about
the timeframe but this information came against the background of
very interesting events.

The famous Georgian film director, Robert Sturua, made a statement
about the Armenian origin of the president of Georgia. Today, the
ex-president of Georgia, Shevardnadze, refuted rumors he had handed
power to Saakashvili under the pressure of the Armenian lobby. This
only kindled rumors that Saakashvili carries out a pro-Armenian policy.

In the meantime, Saakashvili is considered to be Azerbaijan’s best
friend. Apparently, this is the reason why Baku did not take up the
rumors about his Armenian origin. Either Baku authorities knew about
it, or they don’t want to believe their best friend is Armenian.

Meanwhile, Baku has “blacklisted” the French parliamentarians who
have recently visited Karabakh.

What will the Armenian and Georgian presidents speak? Change of
priorities can be observed in the relations of the two countries. The
Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia was granted a legal status. Of
course, at the last moment the Armenian Apostolic Church was deprived
of the right to run Armenian churches but Armenia got the right to
deprive Georgia of rights to six Chalcedonic churches in Armenia.

Recently, Georgia and Armenia have signed a law on mutual protection
of investments. At first glance, this law is addressed to protection
of interests of the Armenian capital which is intensively flowing to
Georgia. On the other hand, it could be a preparation to the appearance
of Georgian investments in Armenia, such as in road construction.

The joint Armenian-Georgian TV program on the Public TV of Armenia
is also interesting. Although it is just an entertainment project,
it will help crush the stereotyped hostile image of Georgians, which
only leads to violation of the rights of Armenians in Javakheti.

The border crossing procedures between Armenia and Georgia have
been simplified but we still have a long time to go for economic
integration discussed during the last visit of Mikhail Saakashvili to
Armenia. And the problem is neither in Georgia, nor in Armenia. The
drivers crossing the Armenian-Georgian border complained that in
Armenia they are forced to pay insurance, different fees.

I remember that during the recent visit to Armenia, Mikheil Saakashvili
said: “We are a small country, can we surprise the world otherwise
but our intelligence?” “Long live safe Armenia, long live safe
Georgia!” continued Serge Sargsyan. And by now the difference of
priorities persists.

Des Kiosquiers Manifestent A Erevan

DES KIOSQUIERS MANIFESTENT A EREVAN

mardi 23 aout 2011

travaille la-bas.

Kim K’s Wax Figure: Armenian Barbie

KIM K’S WAX FIGURE: ARMENIAN BARBIE

Madame Tussaud have unveiled their Kim Kardashian wax figure and she
looks like every 5 year-old’s fantasy princess.

With massive emeralds sparkling at her ears and neck and wearing a huge
meringue style wedding gown, Kim K’s new wax statue looks like a Disney
princess. Don’t you just want to burst out singing “A whole new world”?

The dress and the jewelry isn’t a duplicate of what she wore at the
actual wedding – for that we’ll have to wait until the pictures are
released – but we think the whole idea pretty well executed.

BAKU: Baku Condemns Armenian Leader’s Karabakh Comments

BAKU CONDEMNS ARMENIAN LEADER’S KARABAKH COMMENTS

news.az
Aug 22, 2011
Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has accused Armenian President Serzh
Sargsyan of undermining the Karabakh peace process.

“These statements show Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s intention
to put an end to the agreements reached, beginning from the Prague
process up to the preparation of the updated Madrid principles,” the
first secretary of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry press service,
Elman Abdullayev, told 1news.az, referring to different stages in
the years of talks to find a peaceful settlement to the conflict.

Elman Abdullayev said that in remarks made on Saturday to an Armenian
youth camp Serzh Sargsyan had distorted facts and called for the
continuing occupation of Azerbaijani land.

“The sooner Nagorno-Karabakh is recognized, the better for all,
including Azerbaijan,” the Armenian president told the young people.

He accused the Azerbaijani leadership of failing to recognize that
Karabakh was Armenian land and pledged that it would never be part
of Azerbaijan.

“Instead of preparing his people for peace and thereby contributing to
the development of the region and its welfare, Sargsyan is radicalizing
Armenian society,” Abdullayev said, echoing Sargsyan’s accusation that
the Azerbaijani leadership was making anti-Armenian statements and
“preaching hatred”.

“In his statements, the Armenian president shows his real intentions
and reveals the real policy of Armenia, which is yet more proof that
he does not seek peace or plan to disavow his nonconstructive policy,”
Abdullayev told 1news.az.

He said that Serzh Sargsyan’s remarks practically contradicted
the statements of the presidents of Russia, France and the United
States, the three countries that co-chair the OSCE Minsk Group,
the international body mediating a settlement to the conflict.

The spat highlights the nub of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict
over Nagorno-Karabakh. Armenia insists on the right of the ethnically
Armenian population of Karabakh to self-determination, while Azerbaijan
insists on respect for international law under which the territory
is part of Azerbaijan.

The two countries fought a bitter war over the territory which ended
in a cease-fire in 1994. Armenian forces occupy Karabakh and the seven
surrounding Azerbaijani districts. The OSCE Minsk Group has since been
seeking to mediate a settlement of the conflict, but the two sides’
positions remain far apart.
