for an explosion of Shakespeare productions that will coincide with
the London Olympics.

They will involve thousands of actors, hundreds of professional and
amateur theatre companies, and scores of languages, all part of the
biggest Shakespeare festival ever organized, The Guardian reported.

Details were announced as new research commissioned by the Royal
Shakespeare Company and the British Council revealed that the bard
is the world’s most studied author, pored over by half the world’s
schoolchildren, at least 64 million each year. His work is a compulsory
secondary school subject in countries including Azerbaijan, China,
Oman, the Philippines and Vietnam.

The Globe, the recreation on Bankside in London of Shakespeare’s own
theatre, is mounting all 37 of his plays, presented by guest companies
in 37 languages, including Arabic, Yoruba and Armenian.

Globe artistic director Dominic Dromgoole is particularly proud of
including a company from “the newest country in the world, South Sudan,
which has yet to celebrate its first birthday”. It will perform in
Juba Arabic. An Iraqi company is bringing a Romeo and Juliet, where
the warring families are Sunni and Shia, and a company from Tunisia
is staging a version of Macbeth looking at power and repression among
Arab leaders.

Head of the maternity ward in the southern Armenian town of Vayk,
accoucheur and gynecologist Dr. Metaxya Hovhannisyan continues to
work despite allegations of negligence.

Relatives of a baby who recently died after being in a coma for over
2 weeks following delivery administered by Dr. Hovhannisyan insist
that it was due to Dr. Hovhannisyan’s carelessness and negligence
that their child died.

They say 20-year-old, first-time mom Armine Torosyan contractions
on Aug. 14 so they took her to the Vayk hospital, only to be told
to delay the birth as Hovhannisyan, the head of the maternity ward,
was tending to household errands (beating wool for blankets and the
like) and would call on the family in the evening.

As a result, the child was born late and there were complications
during childbirth.

Speaking to local daily Haykakan Jamanak (“Armenian Times”), Dr.

Hovhannisyan said she will continue to work since she has not yet
received the results of the health ministry committee’s investigation
and forensic examination. She adds that she feels no mistrust from
local residents after the incident.

“I work as per usual. Today, I saw many patients, delivered many
babies. There is no problem from the population,” she said.

Recall, Vayots Dzor marz (province) police were gathering material
for an investigation to look into the claims of negligence against Dr.

Hovhannisyan.

Earlier, Tsovinar Khachatryan, sister of Torosyan’s mother-in-law,
had told Epress.am that the family is not preparing to file a lawsuit
at this time because “we are residents of one village; we’re not
enemies after all, but Metaxya shouldn’t work.”

However, “if push comes to shove, we will definitely take her to
court,” she added.

Head of the RA Ministry of Healthcare’s public relations department
Shushan Hunanyan told Epress.am that a working group has been created,
as instructed by the minister.

‘GEORGIAN AIRSPACE CLOSED FOR RUSSIA’S TRANSPORTATION OF MILITARY CARGO’

Georgian MFA denies information about opening of airspace for Russian
Federation.

The Foreign Ministry informs that the Georgian airspace is closed
for the Russian Federation’s transportation of the military cargo
to Armenia.

“This information is not correct, “- Deputy foreign Minister
Nino Kalandadze said to GHN responding the resent publication of
the WikiLeaks concerning the next one deciphering materials of
the classified letters to USA State Office. At this time WikiLeaks
informed John Baas, USA Ambassador to Georgia said “Tbilisi continues
the opening of the airspace for Russian military cargos transportation
to Armenia.”

Kalandadze said that Russian Federation several times applied to
Georgian authorities asking for the opening of airspace, but the
Georgian side did not satisfied this demand.

“The information form WikiLeaks should be treated cautiously. As we do
not know are they reliable or not. Nevertheless the fact is not truth.

Russia several times applied to us with suggestion to open the airspace
but we did not agree. Last time we got such type of suggestion form
Russian Federation at the end of 2008, “- Kalandadze said.

For information, according to the Wikileaks information John Baas,
USA Ambassador wrote in 17 February 2010 to USA State Department about
“Russia’s attempt to continue the military cargo’s transportation to
Armenia”. Georgian experts say that this information is confidential,

Russia’s military cargo’s transportation to Armenia was closed.

BAKU: Karabakh Status Quo Cannot Last Long – Baku Official

KARABAKH STATUS QUO CANNOT LAST LONG – BAKU OFFICIAL

news.az
Sept 6 2011
Azerbaijan

A top Azerbaijani official has said that the situation of “neither
peace, nor war” in the Karabakh conflict cannot go on indefinitely.

Ali Hasanov, head of the public policy department at the Presidential
Administration, made the comments to journalists in Baku on Tuesday.

He was responding to remarks by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on 1
September that “the people of Nagorno-Karabakh made full use of their
right to self-determination and gained the right to independence at
the expense of their blood”.

The presidential official restated Baku’s position that the conflict
could be solved only through Karabakh remaining part of Azerbaijan.

“We have stated many times that there is a simple formula in the
process of the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict: the
problem must be solved within the norms of international law,” Ali
Hasanov said.

“The Azerbaijani president has spoken about this formula many
times and stated what issues are on the agenda for negotiations:
i.e. the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh
must be restored and the national and ethnic civil rights of all the
population and peace in Nagorno-Karabakh must be secured. These norms
are known and the negotiations have been continuing on these norms for
several years. To put it simply, Armenia’s absence of will or the fact
that it does not depend on its own will or its non-constructiveness
or compulsion to non-constructiveness delay these processes.”

The head of the department said a solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh
problem would have to be found sooner or later. “The situation
of ‘neither war, nor peace’ cannot continue for long in the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The internally displaced people cannot
live in temporary settlements for a long time.”

He said that Azerbaijan was ready to continue talks to settle the
conflict.

“Azerbaijan does not think that the potential of negotiations on a
settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict has been exhausted.

The Azerbaijani president has stated many times that ‘if I feel that
the potential of negotiations has ended and they are continuing
only for their own sake, Azerbaijan will give up the negotiations
and restore its territorial integrity by other means,'” Hasanov
told journalists.

He said that Azerbaijan could not say for sure that the potential
had been exhausted. “The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, as well as other
institutions that participate in international peacekeeping processes,
allow us to think that this problem can be resolved peacefully through
pressure on Armenia.”

Hasanov said he could say nothing specific about the next meeting
between the Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents. There has been
speculation that the leaders will meet later this month on the
sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Hasanov criticizes the press

Addressing a training course in election rights for local officials
at the Central Election Commission on Tuesday, Ali Hasanov criticized
the quality of newspapers in Azerbaijan.

“Unfortunately, today newspapers in the country have lost their
position in terms of information. Now people believe information from
the TV and radio. Someone who reads the same news in a newspaper does
not believe that information without hearing it from the TV or radio.”

Hasanov accused newspapers of writing positive or negative information
about the same person for material interests. He said that they
wrote postively about a person if paid to do so, and negatively if
the person did not pay.

There are newspapers that “arrest” the most important ministers 10
times, and “sack” them 15 times, Hasanov continued.

He said that the law should be the basis of any work and underlined
the importance of transparency.
