voyage Paris-Erbil, au Kurdistan Irakien, pour soutenir l’action
humanitaire de l’acupunctrice Élise Boghiossian et son association
shennong-avicenne.org qui vient en aide et soigne les réfugiés
chrétiens en zone de guerre.

Hommage au peuple arménien

Commémoration Jeudi matin, à l’église Saint-Corentin, Georges
Kévorkian, président de l’association bretonno-arménienne
Menez-Ararat, était accueilli par Michel Mazéas, curé de la
cathédrale. Il était venu apposer des panneaux explicitant l’histoire
du peuple arménien, issu d’une des plus importantes civilisations
chrétiennes du Moyen-Orient, qui a été victime du premier génocide du
XXe siècle. L’association Menez-Ararat regroupe 70 adhérents ou
familles dans le Grand-Ouest. C’est la date du 24 avril 1915 qui est
généralement celle reconnue comme marquant le début de ces terribles
événements. « Ce génocide a été, en quelque sorte, la phase ultime
d’un processus d’extermination du peuple arménien de l’Empire Ottoman,
jalonné par les massacres des années 1880-95 sous le sultan Abdul
Hamid et par ceux perpétrés en 1908-1909 par les Jeunes Turcs, venus
au pouvoir », rappelle Georges Kévorkian. Ce génocide aurait provoqué
la mort de 1.500.000 personnes. Un génocide ethnique, culturel et
religieux qui n’est pas sans rappeler les combats actuels en Syrie et
Irak contre Daech et les victimes collatérales de ces zones de guerre
: les minorités ethniques et religieuses. Après l’effondrement de
l’Union soviétique, l’Arménie – trois millions d’habitants – a
proclamé son indépendance en 1991. Le 19 avril, à 10 h 45, Mgr
Guéneley célébrera la messe en la cathédrale, à l’occasion du 100e
anniversaire de ce génocide.

GOVERNMENT TO BUY TABLETS FOR ARMENIAN SCHOOLS AT A PRICE HIGHER THAN THE MARKET VALUE: PRESS

In a Cabinet meeting held on Thursday, April 9, the RA Government
approved the “One child – one computer” phased computerization program
for Grade 1 pupils of secondary schools, “in a bid to boost domestic
production.”

During the first round of the program 650 grade 1 pupils in Vayots
Dzor province of Armenia will each be provided an ArmTab tablet;
training courses will be held for teachers; wireless internet devices
will be installed in 45 schools, the press service of the RA Government
reported.

In his article for the local Haykakan Zhamanak daily, titled “It’s Just
a Tablet”, reporter Hayk Gevorgyan brings up the issues surrounding
the program.

The reporter recalls that on December 6, 2013, RA then-Prime Minister
Tigran Sargsyan presented anArmTab tablet during a Government event,
announcing that it was “the first-ever tablet of Armenian production.”

“Then it became clear that the said tablet had no relation to Armenia
whatsoever: the components were made in the USA, while the tablets
themselves were assembled in Southeast Asia. Thus, the Armenian tablet
is ready. What made it different from all the other tablets in the
world was that the software was in Armenian. But that is not really
important. What matters is the price at which these tablets will
be purchased for our children. When the tablet was first presented,
it was announced that the prices would be under $200. According to
the program approved by the Government on Thursday, however, each of
the tablets is to be purchased at 112,000 drams ($235). Right now,
on the world’s largest e-commerce platforms (Ebey, Amazon) tablets
equivalent to ArmTab are worth about $180,” Gevorgyan stresses.

Therefore, with the help of the Government’s program, the ArmTab
tablets will finally find a consumer market and will be sold at quite
expensive prices, the reporter writes.

OBAMA URGED TO RECOGNIZE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE AS 100TH ANNIVERSARY NEARS – THE LOS ANGELES TIMES

It’s become a frustrating rite for Armenian Americans. Every year, in
the days leading up to the April 24 anniversary, advocates have lobbied
President Obama to use the word “genocide” to describe the killing of
more than 1 million Armenians at the hands of Ottoman Turks in the
political upheaval surrounding World War I. And every year, despite
promising as a candidate to do so, Obama has declined to use the word.

But this time, advocates are hoping, it will be different. This year
marks the 100th anniversary, a moment of intense interest, increased
symbolism and a swirl of activity, including a cross-country race
and an international pop music tour. It is also a period of the
Obama presidency, its twilight, in which the president has shown a
greater boldness on core issues of principle as he begins to consider
his legacy.

Advocates say they have been told that the administration is giving
its most thorough review to the issue since 2009, Obama’s first
year in office. But the Turkish government continues to dispute that
genocide took place and has poured millions into lobbying efforts to
oppose official U.S. recognition, including bipartisan resolutions
in Congress aimed at labeling the killings as genocide.

Despite conclusions by historians that genocide occurred, concerns
over upsetting Turkey, a key ally in a crucial region, have won over
numerous presidential administrations and members of Congress.

Many Armenian Americans have refrained from criticizing Obama in the
hope that this will be the year he breaks that precedent.

“Whether I’m angry or frustrated, I’m looking at it in terms of
the issue. And he has an opportunity. When he was a senator, he
spoke clearly about the Armenian genocide. When he was a candidate,
he spoke clearly about the Armenian genocide,” said Bryan Ardouny,
executive director of the Armenian Assembly of America. “This is the
time for him to not only fulfill his promise, but also, in doing so,
help prevent future genocide.”

Armenian Americans have been bolstered by a symbolic victory last
year. With help from members of Congress, they persuaded the White
House to display a rug associated with the genocide in the White House
Visitors Center as part of a temporary exhibition. The Ghazir rug,
crafted by orphans, was presented as a gift to President Coolidge in
1925 to recognize humanitarian assistance. But like many efforts at
recognition, victory was partial: The rug was returned to storage.

Obama had been a forceful voice on using the term genocide as both
a senator and a presidential candidate. During his campaign, he
pointed to his criticism of former Secretary of State Condoleezza
Rice in 2006 for replacing a U.S. ambassador to Armenia, John Evans,
who used the term “genocide.”

“I shared with Secretary Rice my firmly held conviction that the
Armenian genocide is not an allegation, a personal opinion, or a
point of view, but rather a widely documented fact supported by an
overwhelming body of historical evidence,” Obama said in 2008. “The
facts are undeniable. An official policy that calls on diplomats to
distort the historical facts is an untenable policy.”

Top White House officials — including, when they were senators,
Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State John F. Kerry —
have also gone on the record supporting the term as essential to
promote reconciliation between Armenia and Turkey and to prevent
other genocides.

Samantha Power, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, wrote
extensively about the need to confront the history in her book,
“A Problem from Hell: America in the Age of Genocide,” which won the
Pulitzer Prize in 2003.

Since becoming president, Obama has said his views on the subject
have not changed. But he has not used the term.

Aram Hamparian, executive director of the Armenian National Committee
of America, said he had been told by “very senior people in the
White House, in particular the National Security Council,” that the
administration is conducting its first thorough review of the issue
since 2009.

Administration officials will not comment on the review process and
most observers do not expect to find out what Obama will say until
April 24, given the sensitivity of the issue.

State Department spokesman Alec Gerlach said in a statement that
“the president and other senior administration officials have
repeatedly acknowledged as historical fact and mourned the fact that
1.5 million Armenians were massacred or marched to their deaths
in the final days of the Ottoman Empire, and stated that a full,
frank and just acknowledgment of the facts is in all our interests,
including Turkey’s, Armenia’s and America’s.”

A Turkish government official, who declined to be quoted by name
citing an internal policy, said that the deaths did not meet the
legal definition of genocide and that it would be a mistake for the
U.S. to use the term.

“I can assure you there would be a huge disappointment on the Turkish
side,” the official said. “It’s not up to the Congress or to the
leaders of other countries to make judgments on other countries’
history.”

Rep. Bill Shuster (R-Pa.) warned colleagues in a recent letter that
adopting a congressional resolution recognizing the genocide “could
be cataclysmic and undermine U.S. interests,” and it risks alienating
“one of our last allies in the region who is working hand in hand
with U.S. soldiers and our allies to combat ISIS,” using an acronym
for the militant group Islamic State.

Rep. Ed Royce, the Fullerton Republican who chairs the House Foreign
Affairs Committee, supports recognizing the genocide but does not plan
to hold a vote on a congressional resolution this year because “on
the 100th anniversary it’s best to have unified voices recognizing
the premeditated genocide of 1.5 million Armenians,” he said in
a statement.

Rep. Adam B. Schiff, the Burbank Democrat who has long called for
formal recognition of the genocide, said the U.S. had a “moral urgency”
to use the term this year, before the last remaining survivors die. He
predicted that Obama or some future president would eventually use the
word, and that “these prior administrations will have a lot to answer
for, as to why they were complicit in a campaign of genocide denial.”

La loi penalise la negation des genocides reconnus par la Republique
de Chypre, dont le Genocide armenien (reconnu par Chypre en 1975),
par le Tribunal penal international, ainsi que d’autres crimes
contre l’humanite. Elle prevoit 5 ans d’emprisonnement ou une amende
de 10 000 euros pour le deni des faits historiques. Le President du
Parlement chypriote, Yiannakis Omirou, a salue ce vote qui permet de >. Le President du Parlement armenien,
Galoust Sahakian, qui se trouvait en Chypre pour une visite officielle,
etait present au Parlement chypriote lors du vote. Erevan a salue, par
la voix du Ministre des AE, Edward Nalbandian, le vote du Parlement
chypriote, qu’il a qualifie d’evenement symbolique a la veille du
centième anniversaire du Genocide armenien. >.

dimanche de Pâques, a 9 heures dans la Basilique vaticane, le
Saint-Père Francois va célébrer la messe pour les fidèles de rite
arménien, au cours de laquelle sera proclamée “docteur de l’Eglise”
Saint Grégoire de Narek”. Grégoire de Narek, Krikor Narekatsi ou
Grigor Naregatsi (en arménien, Ô³O~@Õ”Õ£Õ¸O~@ Õ~FÕ¡O~@Õ¥Õ¯Õ¡O~AÕ”),
né entre 945 et 951, et mort a Narek en 1003 ou aux environs de 1010,
est un théologien (vardapet), poète et philosophe d’Arménie. Né
dans le Vaspourakan des Artzrouni, il passe la plus grande partie de sa
vie au monastère de Narek, non loin du lac de Van (actuelle Turquie),
près de l’église d’Aghtamar, où il est notamment enseignant. Le

DUTCH PARLIAMENT RECOGNIZES ARMENIAN, ASSYRIAN AND GREEK GENOCIDES

The Dutch Parliament passed a binding resolution yesterday recognizing
the genocide of Assyrians, Greeks and Armenians by Ottoman Turks during
World War One. The resolution, tabled by MP Joel Voordewind from the
Christian Union party, enjoyed wide support from the various parties,
including Christian Union, People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy,
Christian Democratic Appeal, Reformed Political Party and Labor
Party. The resolution was strongly opposed by two Turkish members
of the Parliament but passed by a strong majority vote, the Assyrian
International News Agency (AINA) reports.

“The aim of this motion is to recognize the Armenian as well as the
Assyrian genocide,” said Joel Voordewind, “and to bring the Turkish
government closer to Armenia. This is an important signal from the
Dutch Parliament to the Turkish government to acknowledge its past
actions. I hope in the end this will bring both countries to a better
understanding and reconciliation with each other.”

jaar Armeense genocide, in Nederland en elders, bijdragen aan respect

c.s., bilateraal en in EU-verband, de Turkse regering op te blijven
roepen de toenadering tot Armenie een nieuwe impuls te geven en met

THE KARDASHIANS PRESENTED ESTATE NEAR YEREVAN

YEREVAN, APRIL 10, ARMENPRESS. The Hovnanian International LLC
has granted a land to the Kardashian family in Vahakni residential
community nearby Yerevan. As reports “Armenpress”, Khloe Kardashian
made a post on this on Facebook and shared the photo of the
certificate with the following note: “Kourt and Rob we got you a
souvenir!!!!!! Land in Armenia!!!”

Previously it was reported that on the first day of their visit to
Armenia, Kim and Khloe Kardashian toured in Armenia’s capital Yerevan.

As reports “Armenpress”, the Kardashians visited “Mother Armenia”
memorial, took a walk in Cascade complex and finished their tour in
a restaurant in Yerevan. They also managed to meet with some of their
Armenian fans and take photos with them.

Famous Armenian American TV star, model and actress Kim Kardashian
and Kanye West arrived in Armenia with their daughter on April 8. As
Armenpress’s correspondent reported from Zvartnots International
Airport, at the airport, they were greeted with salt and bread.

Despite the several questions from journalists, the reality show star
just said that “she was very happy to be in Armenia”. After that,
she sat in a car and headed towards a hotel.

The Kardashians have arrived in their historic homeland to commemorate
the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide perpetrated in the Ottoman
Empire in 1915.

At the airport, they were greeted by Deputy Minister of Economy of
the Republic of Armenia Sergey Avetisyan and Chairman of the National
Competitiveness Foundation Arman Khachaturyan.

Earlier, The Daily Mail had reported that Armenian American lawyer
Robert Kardashian, father of Kim,Kourtney and Khloe Kardashians,
is of Armenian descent. So, the trip to Yerevan is an important trip
for the family of stars. As The Daily Mail reports, Kim Kardashian
has put extensions in her hair and has returned to her natural hair
color especially for the trip to Armenia. In Armenia the family will
shoot one of the parts of the show “Keeping Up With the Kardashians”.

Top Armenian American socialite Kim Kardashian’s visit to Armenia

genocide committed in Ottoman Turkey.

Almost everyone in Armenia is now talking about the Kardashians’ visit
and social media are abuzz with comments on this subject. Various
opinions can be heard about the star of Armenian origin from both
public figures and ordinary citizens.

Politicians have also commented on the Kardashian family’s trip to
Armenia. Parliament Speaker Galust Sahakyan appreciated her coming,
saying that the entire world’s attention is directed to Armenia due
to this circumstance.

“Kim Kardashian is a world famous lady, and we should be proud to see
the world’s attention focused on Armenia. We like to gossip even about
the best things. She is very popular and we should host her decently,”
the top Armenian legislator said.

Levon Martirosyan, a lawmaker representing the faction of the ruling
Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), told media that the TV star’s visit
should be used for the promotion of the international recognition of
the Armenian Genocide.

“This is a very good means. She has 77 million followers on Instagram,
Twitter, Facebook and other social media, at least 77 million
people listen to each of her words. That should certainly be used
for Armenia’s promotion, for promoting its tourist potential and for
making the voice of our people once again audible,” he said.

Shushan Petrosyan, a singer and lawmaker representing the RPA faction,
also said that it is necessary to use the occasion to promote Armenia’s
interests.

“It’s very important to work on our side and give a right direction
to her based on historical events. I don’t think she is interested in
all this, but the information should be provided correctly,” she said.

Kim Kardashian and her sister Khloe, accompanied by media, yesterday
took a stroll around Yerevan, visiting, in particular, Victory Park.

After that they were received by Armenian Prime Minister Hovik
Abrahamyan. And later in the day the Kardashians went to visit some
historical and cultural places outside Yerevan – in Garni and Geghard.

In Armenia the U.S. celebrity sisters are shooting a one-hour episode
of their TV show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

While in Armenia they are also expected to visit the Armenian Genocide
Memorial at Tsitsernakaberd and travel to the country’s second largest
city of Gyumri to meet some distant relatives.
