bombe a retardement.

L’absence d’efforts internationaux significatifs visant a resoudre

The Trchkan Waterfall Defense Initiative has written to the Armenian
Environment Minister about the devastating impact that two small
hydro-electric plants have caused to the Herher tributary of the
Arpa River.

Photos showing that the Herher tributary has basically dried up along
with one of the waterfalls were sent to the ministry as well.

The group calls on the ministry to investigate the matter and says
it will collect further evidence regarding the environmental damage
caused by the hydro-plants.

IF YOU ARE IN THE GOVERNMENT, YOU CAN MURDER A MAN, THE PUNISHMENT WILL BE DIFFERENT,” ANAHIT BAKHSHYAN SAYS
Arpine SIMONYAN

July 16, 2012 12:31

For Anahit Bakhshyan, a member of the Heritage Party and a former
MP, the initiative to condemn the ANC activists to up to 6 years
in prison has political overtones and a specific goal. “Recalling
different stories of our reality, which concerned people of the ruling
political force and people in the opposite camp, I can say that if
you are in the government, you can murder a man and the punishment
will be different, but if you are in the opposite political camp,
even a curse can be costly for you. Tamamyan was convicted to 4 years,
organizers of the events of March 1 have not been revealed so far and
moreover, Grigor Grigoryan, one of the people mostly responsible for
March 1 has appeared in the National Assembly. Whereas the Fact-Finding
Group explained reasonably enough what role he had played in March 1,
but that person is an MP today,” Ms. Bakhshyan told

In her opinion, such a work style will present Armenia to the
international community with another negative report. Let us remind
that the ANC activists were charged with Articles 316 and 258 of the
Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia – hooliganism and the use
of violence against a government representative.

SEPTEMBER 15 DECLARED PAN-ARMENIAN WASTE DISPOSAL DAY

Armenia will host pan-national waste collection events on September
15 upon the initiative of the environmental movement the Let’s do it!
Armenia.

The head of the group, Arsen Gasparyan, told a news conference on
Monday that the idea is aimed at educating the youth, apart from
sorting out the heaps of garbage in different places across Armenia.

“This is why we will primarily involve pupils in the activities as it
is necessary to first of all educate children on keeping the country
clean. We will then attract the youth and anyone who wishes to join
us,” he said.

Gasparyan said their financial means at present do not suffice to meet
all the volunteers’ request. He said their volunteering initiative
i not supported by any foreign funding.

“The business sector does not much respond to our event. We have a
few agreements, but they are of preliminary nature yet. As for the
government bodies, only the Armenian Police and the Ministry of Nature
Protection have joined the movement,” he said.

The activist called upon the president and the prime minister to join
and assist in their initiative.

“We expect the Government to support us materially, by providing tools
and facilitating the waste disposal and transportation. As for the
president, we want only his patronage. Many European countries see
this event held under the president’s patronage,” Gasparyan said,
adding that they have already sent letters to the president and the
prime minister.

According to him, they will need 30 million Drams (about $75,000)
and about 5,000 volunteers for implementing the plan.

Let’s Do It! World is a global environmental movement held across
the world countries between March 24 and September 25.

Iran’s St. Thaddeus Church To Host Armenian Pilgrims

Scores of Armenians, Assyrians and Catholics from Iran and other
countries will attend the annual event as part of their pilgrimage
on the Day of St. Thaddeus.

The ceremony is known as one of the largest religious ceremonies held
by Armenians, Press TV reports.

The St. Thaddeus Church, is one of the oldest and most notable
surviving Christian monuments of Iran that carries great significance
for the country’s Armenian Orthodox community.

St. Thaddeus Church is the world’s first church and was constructed
in 68 CE by one of the apostles of Jesus, Saint Thaddeus, who traveled
to Armenia, to preach the teachings of Christ.

Qara Kelisa, which literally means Black Church, has been registered
as the ninth Iranian historical-cultural heritage site on the United
Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO)
World Heritage List.

The church is composed of two parts: a black structure, the original
building of the church from which it takes its name and a white
structure, the main church, which was added to the original building’s
western wing in 1810 CE.

An ancient chapel two kilometers northwest of the church is said to
have been the place where the first Christian woman, Sandokh, was
martyred. The chapel is believed to be as old as St. Thaddeus Church.

The structure was inscribed along with two other monastic ensembles
of the Armenian Christian faith namely St. Stepanos and the Chapel
of Dzordzor.
