Iranian-Armenian Pop Superstar Andy to Foster International Unity at
L.A.’s Greek Theatre

Sunday, 22 July 2012

Fans of L.A.-based superstar Andy Madadian are eagerly anticipating
the star’s upcoming performance at the historic Greek Theatre which
will feature a Vegas-style motif of global fusion, rhythm and dance.
The show also marks the singer’s first public performance with his new
wife, the American performer and songwriter Shani Rigsbee. The couple
will debut their thrilling new single, “DJ,” at the event. Tickets are
already going fast for this once-in-a-lifetime concert event.

The show will also include the debut of the humanitarian musical
venture “We Hear Your Voice,” written and produced by Shani. The unity
song will be performed by a veritable cavalcade of some of the world’s
greatest musical performers, many of whom hail from nations regularly
featured on nightly newscasts. Not just Iranian, but Korean, Afghani
and Israeli performers will all appear at the Greek for a special
filming of the song. Each artist hopes to spread this message of
healing painful divides and fostering worldwide cultural exchange and
giving voice to the people.

Korean singer Sung Bong Choi surged to national success last year when
his performance of “Nella Fantasia,” from “Korea’s Got Talent,” went
viral on YouTube with 55 million hits; the youthful manual laborer
quickly found himself being labeled “the Korean Susan Boyle.” Also
from the younger crowd, Israeli kibbutz-born international singer and
peace advocate, Liel Kolet will be performing. Liel performed at the
White House and has an upcoming PBS special. Ehsan Aman is a highly
acclaimed veteran of Afghanistan’s “lost” golden age of music. Despite
residing in the United States for roughly three decades, Mr. Aman has
remained extremely popular in his homeland. The 10 year-old piano
virtuoso and composer, Jahan Raymond will accompany the artists.

The song “We Hear Your Voice” is dedicated to the theme of hope and
peace. The sound recording planned for International release will also
feature Pop Stars Sonu Nigam of India, Igor Nikolaev and Yulia
Proskuryakova of Russia, and others, in addition to the artists
attending the August 4th concert. All proceeds from the digital
downloads of the song will be donated to improve children’s welfare
throughout the world.

USA Armenian Life Magazine : Votre personnage, cet ingénieur, est allé

Je me sentais supporté, je me sentais
accueilli.

Sundance Film Festival Review : HERE – Ray Greene, Box Office Magazine

ALEXANDER ISKANDARYAN: EU DOES NOT SAY IT DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THE KARABAKH ELECTIONS
Karen Ghazaryan

“Radiolur”
20.07.2012 16:46

Director of the Caucasus Institute, political scientist Alexander
Iskandaryan says the presidential elections in Artsakh were the most
interesting from the point of view of political results. According to
him, the struggle was rather competitive, Vitaly Balasanyan succeeded
in forming opposition.

The opposition candidate has received a great number of votes and an
opposition faction may possibly be formed in the National Assembly,
Iskandaryan said, taking into consideration that he was supported by
a number of MPs.

According to the political scientist, the probability of establishment
of an opposition faction at the NKR Parliament is the greatest
political achievement of the past elections. Iskandaryan believes
this will bring about changes on the political map of Karabakh.

Director of the Caucasus Institute noted also that the presidential
elections were largely covered by foreign media. He called special
attention to the statement of the High Representative of the European
Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, in which she said “the
EU does not recognize the constitutional and legal framework in which
the elections were held.” The statement does not say the EU does not
recognize he elections, and this is the first time such a statement
was made.

NKR Votes: Incumbent Sahakyan Re-Elected For Second Term, Observers

NKR VOTES: INCUMBENT SAHAKYAN RE-ELECTED FOR SECOND TERM, OBSERVERS GIVE HIGH MARKS TO PROCESS
By Naira Hayrumyan

ArmeniaNow
20.07.12 | 13:52

Incumbent President Bako Sahakyan has retained his post winning
Thursday’s election in Nagorno Karabakh by taking 47,085 votes — 66.7.

Runner up General Vitali Balasanyan got 32.5 percent of votes (22,
966). Arkadi Soghomyan received 0.8 percent or 594 votes.

Experts point out a new peculiarity in Karabakh elections – a
signifcantly decreased gap between the winner’s votes and those
of his main opponent. In 2007, Bako Sahakyan won by 85.12 percent,
while his main opponent Masis Mailyan, by official data, scored only
12.53 percent. So, 80-90-percent victories were considered to be the
norm in Karabakh, however, things have changed and “the bar is lower”
now and Sahakyan has cleared it with 67 percent, with his opponent
practically taking one third of the votes.

Balasanyan, a Member of Parliament, had promised to become oppositional
should he lose in the elections. There is no opposition in Karabakh,
but Balasanyan’s team which now has Mailyan (currently chairing NKR
Public Council on Security and Foreign Affairs ) and Eduard Aghabekyan
(the only oppositional mayor of Stepanakert, 2004-2007) and a number
of public figures joining it, can become true opposition.

The lack of an opposition was actually the reason why two years ago
the Freedom House organization ranked Karabakh “not free”, removing
it from the list of “partly free” countries.

And besides, the traditionally negative approach of the international
community towards elections in Karabakh has seen some changes. Despite
the fact that Baku and Ankara made rather critical statements that
they do not recognize the elections, Russia, France and the USA
refrained from making any statements. Instead, Georgia did through its
Foreign Ministry, stating that it “wishes to reaffirm the Georgian
government’s unequivocal support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty
and territorial integrity, and does not recognize the so-called
“presidential elections” which were held in Nagorno-Karabakh.”

European Parliament members Ewald Johann Stadler from Austria and
Daniel Walder Stup from Netherlands observed the elections. The
observer mission from Europe included also experts from Bulgaria
and Poland. Karabakh is also hosting members of the House of Commons
of Canada, who emphasized that although Azerbaijan was against their
visit, they wanted to witness the establishment of democracy in Nagorno
Karabakh. Russian MPs are also in Karabakh. Russian Liberal-Democrat
Party representative in the Russian State Duma Alexander Balberov
stated: “The people have a right to decide which country to live in
and under whose leadership, and which way of development to take.”

A total of around 80 international observers were watching the voting,
from the USA, Russia, Canada, France, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic,
Ireland, Poland, Cyprus, Hungary, Bulgaria, Argentine, Uruguay and
others, as well a delegation of officials from Armenia. A few dozen
foreign reporters was covering the elections.

The nine-member Armenian parliamentary delegation consisting of
both oppositional and pro-government deputies, has given the highest
appraisal of the voting. Other observers, too, gave high marks.

Syrian Armenians’ Return To Cause Social Issues, Expert Says

SYRIAN ARMENIANS’ RETURN TO CAUSE SOCIAL ISSUES, EXPERT SAYS

tert.am
19.07.12

Return of several thousands of Syrian Armenians to Armenia may cause
serious social issues in the country, political analyst Sergey Minasyan
told the reporters today, referring to the possibility of return of
Syrian Armenians amid the escalation of the situation in Syria.

“It is necessary to get prepared for their possible return, but at the
same time it is possible to settle them in Nagorno Karabakh Republic,”
the analyst said.

Minasyan said it will first of all solve the demographic issues,
besides settling in Karabakh they will invest their money there.

He said the escalation of the situation in Syria may not allow the
Syrian Armenians move to western countries, that is why it is necessary
to be ready for their return to Armenia at any moment.
