Yesterday, during the hearing of the Harsnakar case, one of the injured
Artak Bayadyan who saw all the defendants at the crime scene said when
he saw Vahe Avetyan, the military doctor who died in the hospital
after being beaten up at Harsnakar Restaurant, he was unconscious
and hardly breathing.

Artak Bayadyan said when Vahe Avetyan was told about the dress code
at the restaurant, he decided to go home, change his clothes and come
back. Inside the hall the waiter answered very rudely Vahe’s question
whether he could stay in the hall with his hat on. Then the waiter
asked Vahe out.

According to Bayadyan, there was another person in the hall, a short
man who is not among the defendants but who had an important role that
day. When Vahe went out, Vahe’s friends followed him and found him
with a bleeding nose. According to Bayadyan, the restaurant staff,
the aforementioned short man, was asking who had insulted the waiter.

They went to the parking space where 15-20 people surrounded them,
started insulting and beating them. Bayadyan said he fell and they
continued to beat him. He heard someone a little far from him say
“stop beating, he’s dead”.

Bayadyan lost consciousness and when his friend Edgar helped him and
he regained consciousness, he saw Vahe lying 5-10 meters from him.

They took Vahe to hospital. On the way to hospital they did everything
to keep Vahe alive and in the hospital everyone and everything was
ready to meet them. He underwent surgery but his injuries were severe.

Bayadyan said he didn’t see who beat up Vahe. He mentioned that the
incident didn’t seem to have occurred spontaneously. The feeling was
that we were taken to the parking space on purpose, concluded Bayadyan.

TOP AZERBAIJANI OFFICIAL: MINSK GROUP SHOULD BE MORE ACTIVE IN CONFLICT SETTLEMENT

The position of Baku in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is that the
OSCE Minsk Group should be more active in the conflict settlement,
Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Political Analysis and
Information Provision Department head Elnur Aslanov told journalists.

He noted that the OSCE should encourage Armenia to liberate the
Azerbaijani lands from occupation.

“Not only the Minsk Group, but also the countries belonging to it,
should be active. We repeatedly address to the world community
with this. It is necessary to put an end to the violation of the
territorial integrity, to steps, contradicting to international law,
and to aggression of one state against another,” Aslanov said.

He added that many states are passive in the settlement of
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988
when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian
armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992,
including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The
co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France, and the U.S. –
are currently holding the peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council’s four
resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the
surrounding regions.

Azerbaijan, Baku, October 31 /Trend A.Tagiyeva/

Ankara is demanding the immediate closure of the Metsamor nuclear
power plant which is a threat to all countries in the region, Turkish
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz was quoted
today by TRT Haber TV channel as saying.

The minister said that the Metsamor nuclear power plant has been
operating for over 40 years and old plants are a great threat.

Earlier, Turkish media reported that the Armenian government has
decided to extend the work of Metsamor until 2023.

Metsamor NPP was built in 1970. After the devastating earthquake
in Spitak in 1988 it was closed, but in 1995 despite international
protests, the activities of the station were resumed and a second
reactor was launched.

Given the large number of minor earthquakes in the past 10 years in
this area, as well as the intensification of seismic processes as
indicated by research of seismologists, in the event of a serious
accident at the Metsamor NPP not only Armenia, but also all the
countries of South Caucasus and the Middle East will seriously suffer.

HARSNAKAR CASE: LEGAL SUCCESSOR NOT READY TO ATTEND TRIAL

06:19 pm | Today | Social

Hardly had the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan’s Avan and
Nor Nork districts resumed the hearing of the notorious Harsnakar
case when it was interrupted.

This came after Artak Bayadyan, one of the military doctors injured
in a June 17 brawl in the “Harsnakar” restaurant complex, said he
wanted to sit during questioning.

This angered the lawyers of the defendants, who said Bayadyan’s
attorneys, Lusine Hakobyan and Tigran Yegoryan, could help him with
answers.

Judge David Harutyunyan ordered to displace chairs.

Garnik Avetyan, the legal successor of the aggrieved party, and his
representative Vahe Grigoryan did not show up at today’s session.

Garnik Avetyan was not psychologically prepared to attend the trial,
said Tigran Yegoryan As a result of a June 17 brawl at the Harsnakar
Restaurant owned by former Republican MP Ruben Hayrapetyan, military
doctor Vahe Avetisyan and his three friends were hospitalized with
serious injuries.

Avetyan, 35, died in hospital 12 days later without regaining
consciousness. The uproar following the death of the military doctor
made Hayrapetyan renounce his mandate.

Six people, including Ruben Hayrapetyan’s bodyguard, were later
arrested on charges of beating military physicians at the restaurant.

Garik Margaryan, Arman Baghdasaryan, David Adamyan, Arman Khachatryan,
Norayr Hayrapetyan and Arthur Babloyan are charged with Article 112,
Part 1 of the Armenian Criminal Code (causing life-threatening bodily

No New Anthrax Alarm In Armenia

NO NEW ANTHRAX ALARM IN ARMENIA

news.am
October 31, 2012 | 12:40

YEREVAN. – Anthrax has not become an epidemic in Armenia, First Deputy
Agriculture Minister Grisha Baghyan stated during a pres conference
on Wednesday.

Reflecting on the recent emergence of anthrax in Vardenis district of
the Gegharkunik Region, he noted that one of the suspected cases was
confirmed, as a person with the symptoms of anthrax was hospitalized.

“The skin form [of anthrax] was noticed among the [hospitalized]
people, which [that is, the skin form] is not perilous and is subject
to rapid treatment. The Agriculture Ministry carries out vaccination of
animals every year. Such vaccination was conducted this year [as well],
but the animals had caught two viruses, [and] therefore, and due to
a weakening immune system, some animals were infected with anthrax,”
Baghyan said.

He noted that everything is normal, at present. “A criminal case
has been filed and the guilty will be punished with respect to the
shortcomings during vaccinations,” the Deputy Minister assured.

Grisha Baghyan added that the meat is inspected on a daily basis at
all locations in Armenia where it is sold, and the suspicious meat
is tested at laboratories.
