We can establish order in politics – Anahit Bakhshyan

Heritage member Anahit Bakhshyan, in her remarks at the rally in
Liberty Square on the occasion of International Women’s Day, asked
those present whether women did their utmost not to find themselves in
this situation. The number of women in government, judicial and
legislative powers is not so big, she said.

`We have 90 percent female representation in the sector of education,
but the society is displeased with this sector. We are responsible for
it,’ Mrs Bakhshyan said.

`We can establish order in politics, we can do it because we are
strong,’ she stated.

Lavrov: Russia `Not in Regime Change Game’ in Syria

Lavrov: Russia `Not in Regime Change Game’ in Syria

© RIA Novosti. Valeriy Melnikov

MOSCOW, March 8 (RIA Novosti) – Russia would not pressure Syrian
President Bashar al-Assad to step down and welcomes Syrian
opposition’s tentative willingness to hold talks with his regime,
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Thursday.
`We’re not in the regime-change game. We are against interference in
domestic conflicts,’ Lavrov said in an interview to BBC, transcribed
on Russian Foreign Ministry’s website.
`It is not for us to decide who should lead Syria. It is for the
Syrians to decide,’ Lavrov added.
Since the outbreak of the conflict in Syria in early 2011, Russia has
opposed all foreign attempts to put pressure on Assad, insisting that
the crisis – which has evolved into a full-scale civil war – should be
resolved by Syrians alone, preferably through political means.
Political dialogue in Syria seemed unlikely, given that the Syrian
opposition has made the departure of Assad and his close allies their
main demand. But in January, Ahmed Moaz al-Khatib, the leader of the
main opposition group, the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary
and Opposition Forces, said that the group was willing to consider the
possibility of negotiations with the regime.
`I’m glad that the latest discussions and the latest gestures from the
opposition, and statements from some of those who support the
opposition, hint that they would be prepared to start negotiations
with some negotiating team without asking President Assad to step
down,’ Lavrov said on Thursday.

Republican election commission head complains against Heritage party

Republican election commission head complains against Heritage party’s
faction head

Heritage party faction head Ruben Hakobyan is a witness in a criminal
case filed by the Special Investigative Services over the incident in
Gyumri’s 34/36 polling station with his and Republican party member
Sukias Avetisyan’s engagement. The Republican head of the commission
has complained against Hakobyan.

Speaking to Tert.am, Hakobyan said, `Realizing that his being in the
polling station is illegal he told the head of the commission to
complain against me, just at my presence. Sukias Avetisyan behaved
incorrectly and received adequate response,’ Ruben Hakobyan said.

The MP added that because of busy schedule he did not visited the
Special Investigative Services, but an official visited him in the NA.

On the election day a report was received about the incident. Speaking
to Tert.am that time, Hakobyan said the cause of the dispute was the
behavior of the observers of Democratic Academy who hindered the
election process, were calling somewhere while he was trying to
prevent it but Sukias Avetisyan appeared after which the quarrel
continued on higher tones.

Hakobyan said he was trying to divert the attention from the
circumstance that he had no right to be there. `It was he who should
be held accountable,’ Hakobyan said.

YEREVAN. – Former presidential candidate Raffi Hovannisian said he is
not recognizing authority of the OSCE Minsk Group.

After the OSCE Minsk Group countries congratulated Serzh Sargsyan on
his victory in the presidential elections, `after these shameful and
rigged elections,’ he is not recognizing the authority of OSCE Minsk
Group, opposition leader said during a rally of his supporters in
Liberty Square.

`Let them do what they want, but they no longer have anything to do
with Armenia or Karabakh,’ he said.

Former candidate promised to make a major statement at Sunday’s rally
in Liberty Square at 5:00 pm, apparently in an effort to once again
stir up an additional interest in the event. Hovannisian said his
ultimate goal is unity of Armenia, Diaspora and Karabakh.

The next to take the floor was opposition leader’s wife Armenuhi
Hovannisian who delivered a speech about love and victory.

Price of Russian Invasion In Armenian Territory

Price of Russian Invasion In Armenian Territory

11:53 08/03/2013
Story from Lragir.am News:

The president of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso replied
to the letter of the Azerbaijani organizations that flights operated
>From the airport of Stepanakert will not be helpful to the peace
process. A few days ago the OSCE Minsk Group also expressed concerns
about the operation of the airport.

The airport of Stepanakert is an area of turbulence. In the
Armenian-Russian domain the issue of the airport is viewed in terms of
security, whereas in the Western domain the operation of the airport
is out of time.

On March 12 the issue of the airport may be discussed during the
Putin-Sargsyan meeting. The airport will serve geopolitical
developments rather than the citizens. It will be an object of
military ventures or provocations.

The Russian army will appear in the region the first because it is
closer and it has `legal’ framework to take martial law in its hands.
It will take the Russian armed force a small provocation to appear
here. Of course, there is such practice when the armed forces reached
the southern border of Georgia but returned to the northern border.
But in Artsakh the situation will be different, and the armed forces
will not leave it for a long time. Perhaps this prospect causes
concerns in the West regarding the operation of the airport of
Stepanakert.

The Armenian government must be prudent enough to avoid geopolitical
adventures. Of course, it is a little inconvenient. Serzh Sargsyan
promised but does not fly, the airport was built but does not operate
flight. However, there is nothing more convenient than peace and
sovereignty in Artsakh and Armenia, especially that if the war
resumes, it will not be our war, and it will be very difficult for the
Armenian side to address its strategic issues.

At the same time, the problem for Russia may be a little different and
not intended for pushing Armenia into adventures and establishing
Russian martial law in the region. Apparently, Russia is working on
its backup scenarios for the regional game.

Moscow can see that it is behind in the political and economic
competition with the West. Civil and public technologies are an
unknown universe to Russia. The West does not take abrupt or
treacherous steps, everything is done openly and most probably Moscow
is assured that the process will not be free style fight or rules will
not change suddenly but the Kremlin is trying to insure itself from
undesirable or unpredictable turns. The airport of Stepanakert is a
spot where it will be possible to cause tension and change the state
of affairs in the region in a second.
